Shotokan Karate - The Meaning of a Kata
Вставка
- Опубліковано 26 сер 2016
- Former Karate worldchampion and motivational speaker Jörg Gantert gives insights into the meaning and philosophy of detailed choreographed patterns of movements, also known as "Kata". Kata originally were teaching and training methods by which successful combat techniques were preserved and passed on. The basic goal of kata is to practice self-defence. By practicing in a repetitive manner the learner develops the ability to execute those techniques and movements in a natural, reflex-like manner.

Thank you, I just showed it to my 6-year-old son... now he understands what a kata is and what level of perfection must be achieved. Beautiful.
Ohhh, thanks so much you for sharing that, Fernando!
No words, only action. Perfectly made video!

What is the name of this kata?
super
Why they said karate do
Not just karate
Why they put (do ) what is the mean of it
I think the do means way of. Kara means empty and te means hand Karate means Empty hand. Karate-do means the way of the empty hand. I am no expert but that is what I have been taught
do has the meaning of way or a path the same is with taekwondo
tae is foot and kwon is fist which means foot, fist way
This is a very well done video, but the content is quite embarrassing to be honest. It's a great disservice to karate to perpetuate this nonsensical notion that kata is a choreographed fight against multiple opponents at a distance.
I disagree. I've been training for just over 50 years in Okinawan karate. I still spar and I see moves come right out of kata now and then. Over that time I've only been in a few real life fights but again, I've seen moves come directly out of kata and no one was more surprised than me when it happened. Just as if you were giving a violin performance you wouldn't start playing scales, in a fight you wouldn't start doing kata. But the purpose of kata is to inculcate prinicples and instill muscle memory. Kata are the formal textbooks of karate.
