@Leeloo_the_fox The story was awesome, and fit the game perfectly. That's what a video game's story is meant to do. Just because it wasn't told in a traditional method, doesn't mean it was half-assed. As a matter of fact, the idea that every person will have a unique path through the game created a unique challenge. The way it's told is a solution to that challenge. If you wanted to argue that the characters were bad or that there were plot holes, that's different. I don't mean to say this is the best story ever written either, not even in the series, but it serves it's purpose as being backstory and character motivation.
@Leeloo_the_foxBecause not everyone wants to play the story, if you actually care for the story you can chase it and that is a good form of storytelling
It's also for people who haven't played it in a while. Since it's been years for me my memory is a bit foggy. Like for example is Zelda immortal in this or where did she come from again in present day 100 years later? I really don't remember xD

I was excited at first until the events of the past week with the illegal leaks. Now I don't feel right playing a game that nintendo put so much effort into that ended up getting effectively stolen by impatient kids who couldn't wait patiently for it's legal release.
Why would you "not feel right" playing a game, just because it got leaked? Are you new to video games in general? Do you not realize almost every game gets leaked? Like ok, so some impatient kids leaked a game. This is why you feel hesitant to play the game yourself, that as you said Nintendo put so much effort and passion into? I'm not sure where your logic went, but its not here.
That's the thing totk is lacking. The feel that you're playing a work of art. It's really really good, but feels like a big Hollywood blockbuster, rather than a quiet exquisite adventure botw was
I was NOT expecting a recap video from Nintendo themselves! This must mean the story plays a much more pivotal role in Tears of the Kingdom than past Zelda sequels.
I’m almost done with my 100% replay of Breath of the Wild and I’m timing it so that I beat Ganon right before release night. Game of the Year 2023, here we come!!!
Contrary of you, i thought this was a perfect way to tell the story. It makes it even more rewarded when you find a memory. But the cherry on top was Hyrule Warriors, wheter or not is canon. It tells so much about champions and relationship betwen characters. And was a great experience to find that.
No matter how good tears of the kingdom is I'll never be able to forget the impact breath of the wild had on me. I'd never experienced a game like it and I still hold it close to my heart despite its flaws.
This hit home perfectly just how close we are to the launch of this game. It's going to be marvelous seeing all the new additions to the game world as seen in the trailers we've gotten up to this point, most of ALL the final trailer, which managed to collectively up the entire fandoms' hype levels twelve hundred fold.
Breath of the Wild was my first Zelda game, and the one that got me totally hooked on the series. It's still my favorite now, and I can't wait for Tears of the Kingdom!
@@djhowell5273 I've played a few. Played Ocarina on an emulator (loved that one) and I played Twilight Princess on my Wii (it's now my second favorite Zelda game, actually for a while I thought it'd be better than BotW) I love the top down titles too! Minish Cap is probably my favorite
We've been with this game for years. I owe so much to Breath of the Wild. The thousands of hours I've put in across different versions, mods, challenges, anything...I know Hyrule better than the back of my hand. From collecting Koroks, to practicing Thunderclap Rushes, this game carried me through the toughest of times, because after a long day, BoTW was there. Here's to the memories we will make with Tears of the Kingdom 🥂
those first couple piano chords and notes have never hit me so hard as they just did, only 6 days before the beginning of a whole new arch. Whoever said that nostalgia can't be re-created, mf it just happened and it felt just as real as hearing the music from Pallet Town years later, and it didn't have to be from a long lost childhood. Get ready friends because TOTK is about to create memories for which we will all feel such melancholy in just a few years :') I love you guys, because the game is only half the fun. The sense of community and group excitement is the other half
I was never into Zelda, but the new spin this game took on the Series got me into playing some other titles like Ocarina of Time and A Link between Worlds, but this game stands out as a masterpiece. I am excited to play Tears of the Kingdom, after 6 years!
Breath of the Wild was an amazing game and the opening scene and music was 100/10. I can’t imagine how this one will be, hopefully the same level of awesomeness
Breath of the Wild helped me through tough times when I was still stuck at home after the pandemic lockdowns, unable to go out hiking. I didn't think it was possible to feel anything close to the same sense of exploration and adventure from playing a game until I played Breath of the Wild. I almost felt like I was in Scotland's various wildernesses and islands. Thanks to my love of the Hebrides, I had a special attraction to wandering along the coast early on in my playtime. Great recap!
I feel about the same but with a reverse … every time when I was going for hiking at the mountains of north Greece I feel like I am at the world of breath of the wild ! I feel the same feeling
This game has been the equivalent of something like sm64 for this generation, thats how monumental of an achievement this game was. unbelievably hyped for tears of the kingdom next week.
Agree... the amazing thing to me is, BoTW doesn't really do anything new but somehow Nintendo is always able to breath magic into its games. No game is absolutely perfect... BoTW is damn close.
Botw is the best open world game of all time , anyone who thinks it isnt prob hasnt played the game or has just watched trailer or heard about it , but they don’t understand how it feels when u get out the great plateu , so many new things , places come at u all at once , its amazing
Well that's a bit too much. Super Mario 64 was not just a 3D platformer when it came out. It was THE 3D platformer. Breath of the Wild was definitely a great experience for sure, but ever since it was released, it got surpassed in many ways. We got Red Dead Redemption 2 which had a more detailed world and a better story line, Death Stranding had better terrain shape and traversal, and Elden Ring had more variety in combat, whether we're talking lower-level enemies or bosses. Super Mario 64 caused a huge wave of 3D platformers to be made and released. Even if you have games that surpassed SM64 in some aspects, they were completely overshadowed by SM64 despite them trying to improve upon it and I bet you can't even name most of them. Breath of the Wild didn't cause RDR2, Death Stranding or Elden Ring to be made. And those games did certain things better than BOTW. The thing that BOTW has over these 3 games though is that it is more open-ended with it's design so adding and improving game elements is much more possible without the original formula breaking. By what we've seen with the gameplay trailers, the developers acknowledged it and went with it. It still doesn't make it fair to compare BOTW or TOTK to SM64, but the games are most certainly diamonds compared to the average AAA games that we've been getting for a while now.
This is the most delusional take I've ever heard. You must not have been born when 64 came out, only way you'd actually believe these two are on similar footing.
It’s be hilarious if they instead talked about the versions of link that went right from getting the paraglider to the castle. “Waking up from his 100 year slumber, and having no memories, he instantly bounced off a bokoblin using a shield and arrow, glided across the land, invaded the castle, and easily destroyed Calamity Ganon. All in less than 30 minutes.”
I don't think any other game will give me the same feeling this game did the first time I ever played it. Botw was my first true open world game ever and I'll never forget how lost in the world i always was and how great that felt. I could go anywhere I wanted and explored at my heart's content. Took me almost a whole year to fully complete the game
Unocovering the story piece by piece through memories was a cool experience, but it did make the story feel a little disconnected from your actions in the game, at least in my experience.
Agreed, but the thing they were truly focusing on here was exploration, which they NAILED tremendously. So take the usual incredible stories of past Zelda games, mix that with the god tier open world sandbox of BOTW, and you have a game unlike any other before it. It’s a MASTAHPIECE
Yeah the fact that "barely" anything happens after Link wakes up. Obviously bc they prioritized exploration and finding out about the past which it still has some credit and it was fun imo. But our actions, per se, contributed to a very small fraction of the story
This is magical. I'd never played any Zelda games. But i bought a switch and Zelda BOTW a few years ago. I never finished the game, i only completet a single Devine beast, and slowly didnt have time to play the game anymore. I never really thought about the story, i just liked the gameplay. But i still knew the game was a gem, with a fantastic story. This video helped me, and i bet many people like me, to understand the story, and make us ready for a new adventure! - I know this comment will be lost, but i just had to let you know, that you're doing an amazing job. All of you. I've had this youtube account for a while, and this is one of the first times i've taken the time to write a comment.. This shows how much i mean it.. Thank you Nintendo. May the 12, i've taken a day of work, just to dig in to this new masterpiece.
I don’t know why you would play this new game if you never bothered beating the last one lol. This is literally BOTW 2 with an even bigger map. The overworld is roughly the same but there are massive sky and underground areas to explore as well. You will probably only beat one dungeon and put the game down again

That final battle with Beast Ganon may have been lackluster, but the battle theme for it goes so hard! It almost makes it worth it! Looking forward to everything to come in TotK!
A couple of hundred hours exploring every nook and cranny of the world leading up to the ultimate showdown with the big bad boss to find it a cake walk and an anticlimax. The lynels were more difficult.

Amazing journey? Of repeating the same actions hundreds of times or "discovering" a small variation of the same thing elsewhere? Get over yourself.. Maybe play an actually designed game with focus, limits and builds up to an actual story. Not thinking that BotW is the best game ever made because it kept you distracted for hours with the same level of challenge anywhere you went, as the game had to be designed that way for all player's potential choices. And no, Lynels are not challenging.. they just take time, and a lenghty chore does not equate to quality.
I never said this was the best game ever. I said it was a “amazing journey” exploring the world and being able to do all sorts of tricks using what the game offers you, finding out about the world and it’s past etc. And don’t tell me to get over myself, over a game, and telling me to play something that’s “designed, has focus, limits, story” botw has all that. If you don’t think botw is as good as people say that’s fine, you have your opinions and thoughts. No need to be like that.

My favorite part of watching Tears of the Kingdom from someone playing on a emulator on reddit was the sheer frame drops in the opening start which is the Great Plateua but Underground called the Great Hyrule ruins and seeing all texture issues. Also I love in story we learn that Ganondorf was Hylias first champion in sealing away the malice of Demise. Then at end of game we learn that Demise used the malic take over ganondorf making Calamity Ganon so he can return. Ganondorf is good guy making a new kingdom but sadly turns into demise when Malice takes him over and link splits the bodys. Also it was dope playing as Ganondorf at end of game glad see they used the the assets for other characters in Hyrule Warriors for this game. Also the Death Mountain dungeon with return of dumb OOT dragon was best boss fight in the game.

Tbh most of the story was told through journals and npc dialogue. Of course, all major parts happened in the main objectives (divine beasts, cutscenes, memories, dlc, ect.)

I was excited at first until the events of the past week with the illegal leaks. Now I don't feel right playing a game that nintendo put so much effort into that ended up getting effectively stolen by impatient kids who couldn't wait patiently for it's legal release.
❤
Why would you "not feel right" playing a game, just because it got leaked? Are you new to video games in general? Do you not realize almost every game gets leaked? Like ok, so some impatient kids leaked a game. This is why you feel hesitant to play the game yourself, that as you said Nintendo put so much effort and passion into? I'm not sure where your logic went, but its not here.
This game was such a beautiful piece of art, I can't wait for Tears of the Kingdom to be released next week.
This will be one of those sequels where they kill off one of the main characters in the first 5 minutes.

Contrary of you, i thought this was a perfect way to tell the story. It makes it even more rewarded when you find a memory. But the cherry on top was Hyrule Warriors, wheter or not is canon. It tells so much about champions and relationship betwen characters. And was a great experience to find that.

@@hassanwaseem4186 maybe not the best of all time but still an incredible game
That's fair. I think it worked for one game, I hope we are more "in it" for the new game though.
Agreed, but the thing they were truly focusing on here was exploration, which they NAILED tremendously. So take the usual incredible stories of past Zelda games, mix that with the god tier open world sandbox of BOTW, and you have a game unlike any other before it. It’s a MASTAHPIECE
yeah, and no post-game stuff also kinda breaks the immersion. Hope the world can be explored after the end if there isn't a third game coming out.
I just HATED that mecanic... sincerely. Have a lot of complains about how it unravel the story of the game and the way we find them...
@@Big_Dai Why are you here? Just to hate? For god's sake get yourself a damn life. And also, there's an idea called "opinions," maybe look it up, it's actually very interesting. Ya there really wasn't much story to the first game. Makes me wonder if they intend to drive story a bit harder in the second one and that's why they did this recap for us. While short, they could all be critical things to know if they are going harder on story.
Tbh most of the story was told through journals and npc dialogue. Of course, all major parts happened in the main objectives (divine beasts, cutscenes, memories, dlc, ect.)
The Legend of Zelda franchise has evolved over time and even reinvented some core concept of video-games in general. I'm so proud to stand as a Zelda fan today !
My favourite peace of music in the game 0:02 always relax my anxiety lol
So true
Like others, I'm playing TotK for the story. I also want to discover, on my own, where Link will travel to and what changes during the game.
I'm so excited for this game. The music just brings me right back.
I can't believe it's almost here... I've waited so long that when the copy appears in my hand and shows up on my switch... man, I'll probably still be in disbelief.
May 12th can't come soon enough!!!
This is exactly what I needed; I didn't want to play through the whole game again to avoid burnout on the gameplay look so close to TotK since I have it on preorder!
