So much detail with Tool. And this is early Tool, first full length album, imagine as they've grown over the years. They're absolutely incredible. Genius talents. Enjoying watching your journey 🤘🏼👁🌀🌀🌀
TOOL has learned to melt together after this first album. This is a “angry” toned musical whirlwind but as each new album comes out the music grows and changes as well as the people in the band. They pretty much grow up together and discuss many topics in the next 30 years after this one.
This album is a great starting point for these guys. I’m of the opinion that they actually come into their own as far as what they eventually become after this album. Aenima, the next album, made me feel different about all music in general. And it got better after that. Just an opinion ✌🏼
I've heard Tool referred to, back in the early days, as the bridge between Grunge and Metal. There always seemed to be some animosity between the fans of both genres, but you would always see fans of both wearing Tool merch. Any time I listen to this album, there's at least a few songs I can imagine on Badmotorfinger from Sound Garden.
This album was recorded at Sound City on good old fashioned tape. It was a studio with an out of this world sound board. Listen to this album with the idea of an overall theme of abuse and addiction. Aenima (the next album) kind of faces reality and isn’t very happy about it. The album after that (Lateralus) is overcoming all that and rising above in a kind of spiritual way.
Henry Rollins. The only vocalist to ever do a feature on a Tool album. Many bands have had Maynard on their tracks, but Rollins is the only one that Tool has put on wax. Kinda crazy
In my opinion There’s a duality in the songwriting…there’s the obvious interpretation of one hitting rock bottom and using that anger to motivate you climb out from bottom but early Tool features a very angry, albeit soul searching Maynard that seems to be letting out his emotions via this medium of music. Also, if I have the story straight, Henry Rollins lost a bet (or card game) to Maynard and as payback featured his spoken voice in the breakdown

Tool kicks ass
Yes Maynard is the best. Every member is the best at what they do especially the drummer Danny
One of my favorite songs from my favorite band for a long time. All their songs sound different but they all sound like Tool songs.

The spoken-word part is Henry Rollins. He's a singer/actor; used to be in a punk band called Black Flag in the '80's.
Henry Rollins is an amazing spoken word artist. His stories about his life are enthralling to listen to.
He should check out Liar by him
We're seeing him in July, he's touring New Zealand!
🤘🏻🌀

Another bottom song I think you will enjoy is by Phish, called Theme From the Bottom.

Have you ever seen the documentary Sound City with Dave Grohl? You should check it out if you haven't.
Just before the spoken part I could feel the greasy slimy sludgy ooze at the bottom in the instruments.
My girlfriend and I will be attending a spoken word gig by Henry Rollins in July (the guy talking in the breakdown)
Guest poetry by Henry Rollins. Amazing in its on right.

My favorite version of this song has Zack De La Rocha doing Henry Rollins part. ua-cam.com/video/bOitVSqHCF4/v-deo.html
