I believe he’s using a megaphone into a mic. It’s a cool mono-distant thing. STP used it a lot. It’s to step back the vocal so you can crank it up in everyone’s face later. Creates interesting dynamics. I’m 50 and I remember loving zeppelin and thinking that this was an instant classic.

After knowing Crowbar's cover for 30 years, I just can't get into this, sounds so rather weak in comparison. If you like heavy guitars listen to that, it blows everything away.
