The blind spot error is gone now that it’s dry weather and the sun is shining, … so I would like to keep that radar box dry and to do so it needs to be sealed completely around and also on the plug. That’s what I’m doing in this video and after the sealing of all the seams, the blind spot radar still works flawless. We will see in a few days, when it rains, if it still keeps working … cross my fingers 😀😀
We are a 2 months further now an it still works flawlessly, however it didn’t rain much in that period… oh well… I’m keeping an eye on it 😃
Update: after more than 3 months now and a lot of rain, it still works flawlessly 👍

Thanks for the video. Interesting to know those sensors may absorb water and produce errors, and how you can possibly avoid that. Pls keep us informed when it rains, thank you!

Very interesting video! Thanks a lot. Do you mind telling me if there are a pair of those boxes in the front bumper as well?
Thank you very much for sharing!

In fact that is a good question, but no there aren’t because there is no blind spot in front of the car. Those sensors work for a car that sits behind in the blind spot and even when that car is at the left or right side of your car but not when it is in front of you . Hope this helps and thanks for watching the video 👍😀

Did this solution last? I have been thinking about doing this, but wondering about its longevity. Thanks!

It still works today … just sometimes when it is really wet for days the error can pop up shortly to go away back when it’s dried up in the garage. I suspect I didn’t seal the plug well enough and a technician from the dealer advised to wrap the whole thing in a plastic bag before putting it back . Hope this helps and thanks for watching 👍😀

Can you share which silicone sealant you used? Also, can the silicone sealant be easily removed in case you need to replace the sensor in case if this happens again? I live in a heavily prone snow area in Minnesota. I am getting blind spot assist inoperable message on my 2012 ML350 and the dealer is quoting $2500 to replace the sensor. I don’t know if I can do this myself but also don’t know what to refer to.

Thanks for watching the video. I used the same silicone that is used in construction, so not easy to remove and I already regret it: just yesterday the error message came back on after weeks and weeks of heavy rain. The technician of the dealership said you can better put a plastic bag around it before placing it back in the bumper. So I have to dry it first and then reassemble it again. You can do this yourself for sure. Normally your Mercedes dealership has to pay a certain amount of the cost if you replace them with a new one I’m told because it is a known failure that is acknowledged by Mercedes, so try to ask for that first if you should plan to place a new one.Good luck!

@@CarFul will definitely have to bear the cost by MB each time this happens!!! How ridiculous can it be to charge so much for so such flimsy location and delicate darling sensors after they charge close to $60K on the SUV!? I am not happy at all with the ML350 although a pleasure to drive it has eaten tons of money on unscheduled maintenance, shocks, back trunk actuator, intake manifold gaskets and now this to name a few. Never again will I go with MB if I have to again buy a car! I heard you can put dielectric grease instead of silicone but not sure again. A plastic cover would rip up in sometime if it’s 100+ degrees outside. Thank you for the input.
