    Joel, you have done a great job on a kayak that don't have a strait flat surface anywhere. I know, I have one too. LOL You are doing a great job, but don't stop. Lets see some more creativity. Good lick on your channel.

    The best ive seen in homemade setup. Spray foam inside PVC an idea for extra sturdiness. Maybe not so important.

    Nice setup. I think I'll have to build something similar with my Pelican. I'm a big guy so I might have the bumpers a little more low the. You have yours so they stabilize faster. But I love the setup. Great video. I appreciate it 🙏🏼

    Thanks for posting this great video:) The only thing I noticed is that had you gone further down with your drop it would increase the stability. I understand where you were coming from with your logic of keeping them up so they were at water level, however during the standing test rocking side to side you could see that the floats lifted almost completely out of the water, whereas had you gone as deep as the bottom of the kayak it wouldve further improved the stability by the flotation being further in the water:) Keep up the good work:)

    • @Okinanam69
      @Okinanam69 Рік тому +2

      You are right. The wider the span the better stability and the buoyancy of both buoys does not sharply decrease due to their proximity to the center weight of the boat, just like the wingspan of an eagle. If its wingspan is short, it cannot glide as good.

    • @BackyardRambo

      After the fact but the pressure on the stabilizers from bouncing in the water will bust out the screws on the mounting bracket. It’s only plastic. He does not have hull access so his only other option would be using well nuts to secure the brackets. Then he could mount them deeper in the water.

    thanks for staying with this project and giving me so many good ideas. You're a hard working guy (carpenter if I don't miss my guess, which I have many times before) with the bug for sure! I mainly explore, swim and dive so I think the existing (deeply inset, about 45 degree angle) rod holders on my Pelican sit-on top are still my go to starting point. Are there any reasons, beyond conserving the rod holders, that I should not use them, given the correct angle of connecting joints?

    You smart dude!! Your genius idea, solved a big problem for me. Im doing the same type of project and was stuck on how to mount the fender. Originally, I wanted to use 1/2" pvc but it does not fit thru fender holes. I was ready to drill out holes bigger, or melt somehow....lol Then I went to Lowes twice and was trying to rig it up with sprinkler size parts.

      Be careful screws will pull out of the plastic on the kayak .

  • @lesboucher542
    @lesboucher542 Рік тому +2

    Two things that I noticed that may cause you problems.
    Number one is that the stabilizer's are running parallel to the sides of the kayak and this may lead to tracking problems on the water.
    The second thing is to do with the sweep of your paddle. I would shorten the front and lengthen the rear bars attached to your floatation devices. That will allow you to get more sweep with your paddle. I hope these suggestions help.

    • @echofoxtrotwhiskey1595
      @echofoxtrotwhiskey1595 23 дні тому

      Should the stabilizers run perpendicular? I think that would just slow it down and make it harder to paddle.

    Hey Joel... I've done the same thing years and years ago . Looks nice but I think you're going to need much more flotation. Will be watching to see how it does for you. Nice video. Yep, needs to be the length of your Kayak and on one side only. Just saying because I did the same thing and even welded mine... Mine was a mess but that was because I had no welding skills. Ended up sinking in Green River reservoir. lol... The year they dammed it.

    Did you put the bottom of the outriggers level with the water line? I'm trying to decide where the bottom of my bumpers should be. My Dad thinks they should be all the way down where they are flat on the ground with an empty kayak on land. I'm just not sure where to put them yet.

    I like this but I am wondering if they could be wider apart from the the kayak and also the floats larger in diameter say 6-8 inches in size and places like you have them in the rear on the kayak? I have an idea but not sure if it would work and I love working with PVC as a a sturdy material I know it makes great survival bows and hunting bows and am thinking on this. Please let me know what you think.
