You'll get more stability with the outriggers being extended as you have them installed but I can already see where they'll be hit when paddling. Maybe making them shorter so that they contact the side of the kayak would be better. The shorter PVC would be stiffer so less flex. Just food for thought.
Right, I can see where you're coming from. I thought about drilling more holes across the main outrigger shafts for more adjustment options. That's a concern as well. I've only taken it out on lakes, but I thought about making adjustments along the outrigger shafts to bring them in and out for different scenarios and reduce tension on the holders.

The rod holders work great for adjustability and durability. The total cost for the outriggers and hardware came to around $70.

You have to glue before you paint PVC.
I wasn't aware that it would be an issue. I'll keep that in mind. So far, the paint hasn't affected the integrity of the bond.
