I camp in my minivan sometimes solo, usually in the driveways of friends and family but sometimes parks and campgrounds and that is my nightmare dude. You were so calm. Thanks for the great example. Sometimes do nothing is the best thing.

I'm female and camped 3 years in a vehicle and 2 years tent. I can totally understand being awake and alert under these circumstances. The only thing I would have done different is when I had a break from them I would have got up front and drove away.
I never had any scares in the vehicle but had a van with immediate access to the driver's seat and I had black out curtains for every window, so I always felt in control.
Tent camping.....1 terrifying scare. It was a night with no moonlight. I woke at 4am to go poddy. Sat down at the end of my tent to have a cig. Right after I lit my cig and my eyes recovered I saw two bare feet about 2 feet from me. He asked me for a cig and walked a few feet and sat down. The next 30 minutes was so scary! He asked me if I wanted to have sex. I started rambling and fumbling around telling him I had to head out to my sons house he was expecting me. He wouldn't look at me he just stared at the wood log in his hand. I could feel he wanted to hurt me.I finally asked him after I had put a couple cans in a sock "are you going to hurt me?" He stood up and started up the path out of my camp. He got about. half way up the rocks and he said, "I'm going to hurt you, just not today". Then he left.

For everyone concerned about my safety and stance on guns.
I do not think this exact situation a gun would have helped me. The safest thing to do was wait it out and now expose myself even if I was armed.
I am not against the second amendment.
It would probably be a good idea to carry anyway being out like that.
Carry anyway(legally), you were better off with out a firearm because they're intent was not to hurt you (most likely did not know you were there) but if someone with a gun wants to hurt you only a gun or a police officer with super powers that can teleport is going to be able to save you.
You should always have a gun with you while you camp but it wouldn’t help you because nobody was trying to hurt you but still a gun I s the best tool to have while camping

Hi Mav, we are from Oklahoma and visited Minnesota in October of this year. We took our Rv to Two Harbors for a week. We walked on the jetty you fished off of. It was so much fun watching your video. Be careful out there.

YOUNG PEOPLE - do something crazy like this dude! In my 20's and early 30's, I climbed many mountains (mainly my best friend and me), mountain biked all over Colorado, took long distance motorcycle trips, fished TONS of lakes in Minnesota/Canada, traveled the country, etc, etc, etc. We/I had a BLAST! Memories to last a lifetime. I LOVE my life now....but, I'm older (married with 3 kids), desk job, and my body is slowly changing (requiring more sleep, not as energetic, and a LOT LESS alcohol😀). Get out there and live life!!! Live with the attitude of "NO REGRETS." Take lots of pics and have FUN!!!!

I've had multiple situations like that when truck camping. Every time I managed to scare them off by setting off the truck alarm with the key fob. Safe travels.

People are more scary than anything I've encountered in nature. Finding bear prints in the dirt on dirt in the rocky mountains was less scary than finding foot prints out side my tent in a local camp ground. You know what to expect from wild life, people are unpredictable and capable of the dumbest shit.

I saw a neat setup. It was an SUV with the console removed so the driver could just step back to his bed, for stealth reasons. The bed was not on a raised platform; he had used plywood to level the floor in the back, and put his bed right on that, giving him more headroom. Some additions to this I myself would consider might be adding two switches (one up front and one near the bed) to disable the dome, dash, and perhaps the running lights for stealth. Another advantage of this, other than stealth, is it enables you, if you are at a camp site, to open the hatch and deploy a small tarp (and a bug net, if needed), for air circulation, without running down the battery. You could also open vehicle doors for various reasons occasionally and there would be no hit to the battery. For sunny weather, a full sized tarp that covers the whole vehicle and that provides an awning over the back would work. Just add a fan for the bed and a spare battery. You're all set. I'm pretty sure that stowing gear under a raised bed is counterproductive, as you can see it is more of a burden than it's worth. More advantages of this are being able to cook with a camp stove right on the tailgate, and you can deploy a camp chair to sit under the shady tarp and enjoy the evening. At least, that's my dream bugout mobile. Used Suburban maybe...
Used to fish a lot out of two harbors. Lake herring gather on the end of that breakwall and bring all sorts of stuff in. Caught a 28 lb lake trout right in there.
Make sure to get a cover for your back windshield, because you don't want anyone starring at you at 3 in the morning lol
I usually just line it with suction cup dildos that are 2 feet long as curtain shades. Usually deters people...usually

A firearm probably isn't needed for protection against a couple high schoolers plinking with a .22 near where you're parked at 3am, but a firearm would be very handy against an axe murderer or even just a regular meth head armed with a crowbar or hammer. Like, what tf do you plan on doing if you're abruptly woken up by your back window being smashed in? You gonna stab at them with your knife? At least you got something, but a glock 19 would be way better than a knife for real life-threatening scenarios.

It would be a good idea to put some hidden cameras on your truck outside, pointing in all directions so you can see what's going on outside with a recorder. It may put you at ease in the night time hours.

My advice, bring a weapon. Me and my uncle go camping a lot in his RV. We always pick a spot where there is a lot of trees, we tie fishing line very tight around the trees and the radius of the RV, about 6-8 inches off the ground with bells tied to the fishing line every so often and sleep with the windows cracked open, if someone walks into the fishing line or trips over it, the bells will alert us, it gives us PLENTY of time to prepare ourselves, even with weapons, if need be.
