Being from the south 2 things i was always taught 1) if the locals dont camp in the area its probably something wrong with it and 2) Dont ever ever ever follow the sounds out into the woods at night. Be it knocking, weird animal calls or crying. Just hang tight and lay low.

  • @TonyGingrich

Also... If you're ever in a tent and think someone might be snooping around, keep all inside lights off. They'll project a shadow of your body onto the walls, and anyone outside will be able to see exactly what you're up to.
I prefer exposure, with no tent. But if I must sleep in one, I hang a dim lamp about 10 feet away from the outside. If someone wants to creep up on me, let those bastards be the ones casting shadows.

a tip could be to add a 2mm paracord in a circle around ur camp in knee height and place metal tins/cans with rocks in them to make clanging noises when something hits it. if you want to take it up a notch attach the string to a claymore explosive to make sure nothing that comes close to ur camp will survive

Rather than me, potentially hear a ghost opening a door, I would slam around to make sure the ghosts heared me. I've had experiences in the past at different places. This is how I dealt with the fear 😂

That was scary, I live in Scotland and you do get wild pigs over Britain. That whirry noise was real creepy, also what stands out was the frequency of branches breaking and sounded like heavy really thick branches, even if there was deer or pigs about, I don't think it would account for the amount of cracking noises heard in that. Even stepping on few twigs branches I dont think would sound like that. Some of comments were American folk on about bears, we dont have bears here or big predator animals, so I am puzzled with all the runcas going on. Glad you survived the night, I would not have made it till morning. 👻

Me and my brother hunted hogs for decades on our family farm (day and night) and much of this noise lines up with what I remember. You have to witness it to believe it, but we’ve had wild boars walk past us ‘knocking’ their tusks - its frightening to hear, until they actually come into sight. Its very loud and sounds like tree knocks. The chewed bark is also a good sign, seems they were after either the bark or fresh growth - pulling branches down in the process which I think is the snapping type noise.

To me it's the sounds you might expect in a wild wood, secluded forest area. Sounded like an animal or animals foraging. Herds of Deer do forage at night and can be clumsy and noisy. Badgers are also noisy (and grumpy) and make lots of weird snorting grunting noises, they are also powerful and will break branches etc - they are also clumsy.... There are also wild pigs and boars in the UK now, and I believe Yorkshire has some too. Those people detecting bipedal steps have good imaginations ;-). But yeah most peoples imaginations would run wild under such circumstances. The fact your dog was fairly calm would suggest it wasn't people or any danger - dogs have an acute sense of danger.
    My money is on Badgers.

I've heard those knocks before. I live in Pennsylvania surrounded by woods and a few of us were out there drinking some beers. It started from far away but over an hour or so kept getting closer and closer until it was right in the tree line 50 feet from where we were. When it happened close a few girls got scared and begs us to leave. As my headlights shined into the forest we saw this huge shadow in the tree line. I stopped and reversed but it was gone. The next day we went and measured and it was 8 feet 9 inches tall and for about a mile smaller trees were bent opposite ways as if something walked through them. A week or so later I was mountain biking in the same area and turned a corner saw rustling of a big maple tree and a huge log came flying at me. I was never so scared in my life I flew home grabbed my buddy and a bunch of guns. Two of us couldn't even roll this log and it was dead for a while, had to weigh 600 700lbs. Even though I never saw it from that day on I believe I ran into a sasquatch. I don't scare very easy and this fuckin scared the shit out of me.

You most certainly did see sasquatch And I think Gaz has as well. BFRO (bigfoot research organization) has many sightings world wide. They've been seen here in Rhode Island and the rest of New England. However, they are seen more frequently in CA, OR and WA. The size and the throwing of rocks, limbs, logs, and bent trees are characteristic of bigfoot. Discovery plus channel has a series "Finding Bigfoot". Corny at times, but interesting as well with some footage from sightings..

I was deep in the woods with 2 friends one night in a small clearing with a big cliff that looked over a bay. There's only one path to get there and all around is dense woods and a steep climb down the hillside. We were watching a meteorite shower and for the first hour everything was normal, then over the next 30 mins or so we heard footsteps walking slowly towards us that was clearly 2 feet not 4. As it got closer we started calling out to it and the footsteps would suddenly stop, every time we yelled, then start again a few seconds later. The steep side of the hill it was walking up would be deadly at night with no light or night vision. When it reached the outskirts of the treeline it started circling around the edge so we went into the woods a bit and demanded it come out. It wouldn't answer us, just stop then kept moving forward. The forest was dead silent, all we could hear was us and the footsteps. When it got to about 50 feet or so in front of us we could see branches and stuff moving where it was but couldn't see it so we started throwing rocks in its direction. Suddenly a big rock comes flying back at us, fast and hard. From the height it came at us it was thrown by something tall, at least 8 or 9 feet tall. We ran out of there back to the clearing and decided I would run back down the path to get the rest of our friends, a 10 min run, while my other 2 buds stayed at the cliff to see if it would come out. I never ran so fast in my life and I'm amazed I didn't trip and fall or run straight into a tree. When we got back my 2 friends were scared shtless but it was gone, it ran off when it heard the rest of us coming. I've never seen my friends scared like that before or since and to this day all they will tell me is they heard weird inhuman sounding screams and trees shaking but refuse to say anything else about it. I know they saw it but they won't tell me what they saw, all they say is "I don't want to talk about it"

In the past, I have used ear plugs to ignore everything, but that is probably a bad idea. Sleeping without a tent somehow also improves things for me because I can see better what is taking place - the tent only blinds without much protection. I figured out just recently that any town/city within maybe 50 miles of a camp is most likely the source of people walking around at night for fun. Further than 50 miles away from a city, it seems that it no longer as fun to do for many reasons.

Hi @Grizzly Gaz. Do you mind if I ask you where this was located, generally speaking? At the risk of being ridiculed, I will say that a lot of these noises are consistent with what seems to go on in certain areas of the United States in the deep woods that I can only logically describe as "Sasquatch activity." People can laugh if they wish, but once you become an unintentional eye witness, THINGS CHANGE....PERMANENTLY. My Husband is a Navy Veteran, and also an avid outdoorsman/hunter and we've spent lots of time in the woods both in the Pacific North West as well as on the East Coast of the US where we live (having spent lots of time in North Carolina, Virginia, Connecticut, NY State, Vermont and Maine as far as the East Coast is concerned). We've also seen and are familiar with both Grizzly Bears as well as Black Bears. These are NOT sounds that are consistent with "deer rut" as some have said. Neither deer or wild boar can preform tree knocks. Especially with as much force as we were hearing. You might be able to pass off some of the snorting and grunting sounds as animals (though I'm sticking with my first theory based on personal experience) but the weight behind the branch snapping, tree knocking and rock clacking all point in one direction to me. You also should have been checking "up" in the trees. I can tell you just from some of the things my Husband and I have witnessed and experienced, we would NEVER go out into the deep woods without the appropriately powerful arms we use, say, while hunting very BIG game.
I'm pretty sure you're in the UK somewhere, and I can tell you that there have been many reports all over the world, including the UK that suggest that whatever this "Sasquatch" type creature is, (I believe it's just a primate that has not yet been scientifically documented, and the reasons for that are MANY) there seems to be variants of "it" living in the wild on every continent. I also saw you say that while you were camping previously, you heard what sounded like "children laughing." Again, that is extremely consistent with what has been described as "chatter" and even a primitive language of some sort that these creatures use to communicate with one another (and recordings DO exist, just research Ron Moorehead's recordings, which you can also see free here on YT in the "Missing 411: The Hunted" Documentary). While I can't remember his name off the top of my head, there is a guy who is compiling witness accounts, and doing intense research about Sasquatch encounters and activity in the UK. If I can remember who he is, or find his name, I will edit this comment to include it. I don't really see anyone in the comment section talking about this, and like I said, it probably is for fear of ridicule, but once you've been out there and "harassed by" and have become eye witness to these enormous beasts, ridicule is the last thing you tend to give a sh!t about.

👣ETA: While I admittedly am not an expert on UK wildlife or folklore, I previously would have thought the odds of Sasquatch (or some similar species) having any sort of population anywhere in the UK, as being slim to none, however I heard a podcast recently that bought that assumption into question. A gentleman by the name of Andy McGrath has apparently been researching the phenomena over there "across the pond" (throughout the UK) compiling sighting reports and supposedly doing field work. Like I said, I don't live there nor do I know much about this man, his work or his credibility however if you are interested in hearing the information that I heard I will leave the link. The very beginning of the presentation is an American soldier recounting his experience, but the UK portion of the podcast begins at 24:40 ua-cam.com/video/eckfooju3EY1/v-deo.html

To suggest there are Sasquatch in British forests and wilderness means you don’t know our history at all everything and I mean everything has been hunted out of every inch of Britain over thousands of years there isn’t room nor space for anything to live within our wild
This doesn’t mean I don’t believe in them because I think they’d exist if anywhere in North America and I’m a fond believer in that but there not any chance they could exist anywhere in Britain not even the highlands nor the vast forests where I live in northern England this country has been at war and in war for too long no more bears nor wolves or anything left through so much occupation and fighting

There's also another theory out there, that these are the offspring of th3 fallen angels. There's a name for them , the giants from the bible. The Nephilium.

Your dog is absolutely adorable. He didn’t seem perturbed at all by those noises which I think is a good thing. Definitely sounded like boar. There must be lots of animals in the forest at night. Perhaps they were attracted to the smell of the meat cooking.

Actually, you do have wild boar in the UK woods. I'm betting that's what it was rooting around your camp. Probably lured in by the smell of your food. I'm surprised your dog didn't react a little more to the sounds/smells she must have sensed. I have to wonder though if it was wild boar why the camp wasn't in a bit more disarray. Puzzling and scary. Stay safe out there!

Never cook where you sleep or the other way around. We got surrounded by boars at midnight. That was dangerous. But nothing happened, we hung the leftovers up a tree so they couldn't reach it. But they tried.
