Give me an Estate over an SUV any day of the week. I have the Superb 280 DSG 4x4 estate which is Skoda's equivalent but I think I prefer the look of the Arteon.
This would be my VW of choice, but here in Australia, the model range was very limited (its just been discontinued). R line spec with 206TSI version is the only way it came from memory. Lapis Blue is my preferred colour. I’m a wagon die hard, but the boss wanted to sit up high so a Stupid Ugly Vehicle (SUV) was bought. Also, this and the wagons from Skoda no have level, flat floors here in our market - not even as an option! The Arteon 206TSI R line was nearly $AUD90,000 which as just too much for what you got. Keep the interesting stuff coming please. Lloyd
Hi Tim - I think VW announced last month that they are axing the Arteon? That's a shame as it is just about the last distinctive and handsome thing they sell (apart from the new elec camper obvs). I agree, the grey is too drab for it, something like the Kings Red met would work better I think.
I do love the look of these but am crushed that you hated the R model. I had considered part-Exing my Superb Sportline for one but don’t think I will now.
Got an Elegance coupe diesel to replace a Skoda Superb estate last year. Nearly new Arteons were better value at the time (paid just 28k for one with 6,000 miles on the clock through VW used approved). Went for the Elegance partly for the better ride - but also the Elegance has a reversing camera as standard.
I get what you say about the price of over £40K, particularly since it then has that punitive tax for “luxury” cars. There are so many fairly standard cars that have crept above £40K now. Even the basic Golf GTI with metallic paint is at that price point, with no reversing camera. It is a lovely looking car and a refreshing change from mid range SUVs
Ive got a one and tht “luxury car tax” is absolutly rediculous , especially for the fact tht , tht tax stays with u for 6 years after purchase but the value of the car deprecaites as soon as its left the show room , personally i think road tax should be down to the damage it does to the planet and the weight of the car , bloody money grabbers 😂 I paid just over 27k for mine for a 1 year old , but ive been stuck with the luxury car tax wtf 😂😂
Complaining about putting ad blue in is really clutching at straws. I do about 15,000 miles a year. It's something I have to put in every few months. Hardly a bind since i can do it while I'm filling up with diesel.
See, I've had a couple of diesels that need AdBlue and they really vary by manufacturer. Had a Skoda that needed it every 3000 miles and a Ford that drank it every 1200. Just a faff and extra £££ that over the mileages I was doing actually offset the cost benefit of getting a diesel. So it's a minor whinge, but one worth considering
@@TimRodieDrivesStuff I’ve just looked at my AdBlue range just out of curiosity. It’s saying 5000 miles. I filled it up maybe a month or two ago. My diesel range however is 45 miles so I may need to fill that up on my way home from work.
Superb is better than basically all other estates when you boil it down to the basics. You only choose an alternative if you wanted to prioritise style (Arteon, 508 SW), speed (M340 touring) or luxury (5 series, E class) or something else.
The Arteon and Passat both have more than enough space, even if not quite as much as the Superb. Both are better looking ( subjective I'll admit ) than the Skoda. They're slightly more refined than the Skoda too. The Skoda may be better value. The VWs are just better though.
The Arteon is one hell of a looker. Love the look of this car.
I like that the captioning has translated 'Arteon' to 'Party on'.
I don't think anyone's ever had a party in an Arteon though 😅

Thanks Lloyd - that sounds outrageously expensive :(

I wouldn't be surprised if they do axe it - it's not an SUV nor an EV… sigh

As you use the words 'shooting brake' you should review the Kia Proceed, it's practical, fast, stylish and economical, I have it in blue.
I'll book one in, thanks!
That is gorgeous. I wish i could have one in the states
Will swap you for a Bronco?
@@TimRodieDrivesStuff you got a deal

Ooooo sexy looking for a barge 👀
Frameless windows like a coupé too 😮
I think I’d go all sensible and get an Superb though 🙄
I'd have a Superb over this too. Even bigger.
Great choice.

The pick ~ Skoda Superb SportLine. 2.0 Petrol, DSG SportLine Plus.
I'd rather have a Hyundai.

How dies a 280 L&K Superb compare ride quality wise? Also 45k that us base E class 5 series money would you have one over those?
From memory an L&K Superb rides better - the Sportline Superbs don't!
Phwooooor! Now about the car……………..
Skoda superb better value and more space.

100% agree - I prefer the Superb overall
@mrgt3201 vw are less reliable and sorry they look boring.Skoda for me.
Sensible and stylish family car. Talking about sensible, (summer) de-icer and banana skin on leg...?
My life is a rollercoaster, what I can I say?
Are you planning on going EV any time soon(ish?)
Nope - I just can't. I have on-street parking and can't charge at home...
@@TimRodieDrivesStuff Yeah. That's a problem. You'll be ok once solid state batteries become widely available, but that is going to take some time.
Shooting Brake is a silly name.
