These reviews are the most in depth unbiased reviews in the whole car industry.
Make sure when using the gesture control that you wave your hand in front of the sensor, NOT in front of the screen. The sensor is located directly under the screen. Mine works perfectly using it like this.

I guess you can use car wows "stick of truth" for this purpose as well.. .. or use a "wearing gloves" test

@@gregorypaulbox3035 Totally agree. I have a 2017 A4 Allroad and it strikes the perfect balance in my opinion. No touch screens and a manageable amount of buttons that I can reach and adjust without looking. I'm not happy with where Audi is going with their infotainment and climate controls so I'll be keeping this car for quite awhile.

Excellent video as usual Thomas. Arteon Shooting Brake is a great looking car - pity that here in the UK the engine line-up is limited to just one 150 bhp pertol and two diesels 150 bhp and 200 bhp.

Yeah it would sit on the lot and collect dust, just like the regular Arteon is doing unfortunately... I would've bought one if it had DSG transmission, that 8-speed is garbage. I went with the Golf R instead.
In 1972 my first car was a used 1970 VW Fastback. Since then I have been driving GTIs, my Corrado, and my Sportwagen. I have never bought a sedan, so a high performance wagon really really appeals to me. But only if it had a manual transmission.

@@zdp4185 I was 16. My dad didn't want to drive me to my 6am Summer job so one night he came home with the 1970 VW Fastback and said I got you a car, but you are going to have to learn how to drive a manual. It took me an hour and I have been driving manual transmissions ever since.
How is the quietness? Is the sound insulation good? (don't see any motorway driving in the video though)
Very interesting how this car is so much like the Golf Mk7 and feels so much more premium than the Golf Mk8. Great video and music as always. Is this 280hp EA888 an up-rated GTI engine with the IS20 turbocharger, or with the bigger Golf R IS38 turbocharger? And I see that in most markets the Arteon is offered with a 7-speed DSG, but in the US, an 8-speed. I have not heard of any 8-speed DSG, so is our US transmission a torque converter automatic?
I think the Golf 7 interior is more premium than Golf 8. Golf 8 interior looks cheap, like it came out of a Ford...

For anyone who owns/has driven this car, how would you compare the new Harmon/Kardon system with the previous Dynaudio system? It seems like VW is moving away from Dynaudio as they've entered a new partnership with Harmon.

A very nice video In the right colour and wheels it would be very nice, though the model has been around for 2 years or so far and proved to be a not very desirable model, personally I like it.
This is a great review!! Btw, I am considering to buy a new car either Kia Stinger 2.5T or VW Arteon shooting break 380 TSI R-line performance. Would you please give me any your opinions or comments? Actually, I prefer RWD based car but unfortunately, arteon is based on FWD and compare to stinger its performance seems to be lagged behind. I enjoy the outdoor activity such as camping, so that I am looking for hatchback style car. Would you guys mind if you give me any of your prestigious opinion? Thanks in advance.

I believe this is because of regulations which dictate where daylight running lights are supposed to be situated on the front of the car. Lights outside of these areas probably can't be brighter than a certain limit. TLDR: you can't have a light as bright as a regular DRL at the centre of the car. At least that's my guess.
I believe it will look a lot better with some black wrap on the chrome lines all over. If everything is blacked out and the LED strip is the only "shiny" thing, the car will look great.

Hallo, als Automakler kann ich dir nur den VW empfehlen. Wenn du mit max. 180km/h zurecht kommst, würde auch der Volvo passen. Der Vorteil beim VW liegt ganz klar beim Motor. Der verbaute EA888 ist absolut ausgereift. Auch das DSG (7G) ist problemlos fahrbar. Viele Grüße

Beautifuuuuul! This shooting brake should be taken as-is and rebadged “model year 2022 Passat”! I love the Passat but I would like this Arteon estate better as a company car 😅

@@oijhhytdirhrbru discontinuing the mighty Passat would have been a big mistake for VW. Here in Europe the Passat Variant is still a bestseller among company cars, for people like me who need a convenient, reliable, and supercomfortable highway cruiser with a huge cargo area and reasonably premium interiors.

VW went with the regular gear selector unlike Audi and Skoda which is not a bad thing, but kind of strange considering it has electonic e-brake and all other controls are touch-sensitive.

From your review, this seems like a really nice car! The heads-up display on the extra little display window...could it be that when you need to replace the windshield it oculd be more costly for a consumer due to that feature, if the windshield requires some special preparation? I am not sure how the tech there works.
Those kind of steering wheel controls are awful - it's similar in the 2020/21 Mercedes-Benz E-class. What are the designers thinking? It's like they' were smoking pot at a car convention and went; "Hey, why don't we apply car controls like you have on a mobile phone? Yeah!" A car should not have extensive touch features, because it causes the driver to look away from the road. The way they should be designing those controls is; "How do we make the steering wheel controls so a blind person can use them?". I know car manufacturers are planning to take the driving away from the driver, and want to test these systems just like no driver is needed, but is is too early and invites Mr. Hazard.
I agree with Omer Davidovich below - we need the capacitive buttons Police! :o)
Hi Thomas, Your reviews are very nice, long and detailed, but you can improve one thing IMHO and this is audio systems reviews. Especially the premium ones. I think that 5 seconds of nearly inaudible song intro is not enough and you should record minimally 2 times 30-40 seconds of some tracks and give it some longer comment. Some sound systems are quite expensive and it is not very easy to hear them at dealers and there are not very much informations about them. Only marketing bullshits. Thanks.

does this car came with heated / ventilated seats?
I'm not so crazy about the LED strip in the front. Looks like an afterthought. I DO like that they finally got rid of the chintzy clock in the center of the dashboard air vents. Oh, and on the 2019 models the exhaust DOES come out those openings in the rear bumper.
Do you think that a person who is 191 cm tall will feel comfortable with a panoramic roof? Will the position be comfortable appropriately on full electric seat?

it's now comfortable with pano roof for 191 cm at all. almost touching the roof with the head.
Why is it in Full HD and not in 4K all the other channels are in 4K
Presumably they haven't bought new cameras/computers/internet to support it.
I say the biggest improvement is the interior, there's a higher differentiation between the arteon and the passat

Nahhh that front end is Arteon exclusive. Just like the CC had an exclusive, better looking front end than all other VW models.
Good looking, but I don’t like the light bar that runs across the front.. It looks like the car has some kind of weird mustache..
The Interior starts to look dated in my opinion. However, if they just lifted the mid infotainment screen upwards, that would make the interior look way better.
Also. Throw in the climate control unit from the the Audi A4, and this would be a really attractive car!
they need to have this body type on MEB platform, go BEV
So much. This car would be so sick as a BEV. Big too, could hopefully get a 95kwh battery in there and then get it up to 250 miles real world range (300 WLTP)

Exhausts should really be in the middle of the car not to left or right this looks better than the L or R cheaper way.
Mounting a bike rack on the rear is difficult, if not impossible, with center mounted exhausts.
I just cant decide which one to buy, arteon or passat. I dont get why there are no iq lights on arteon..

Yeah, not really sure what's with VW's obsession with making everything touch sensitive. It's already annoying trying to use a touchscreen while driving. The worst idea ever. The brands who offer touch pads/touch controllers for their infotainment systems is a lot better to use while driving.
@@blue-ck9ns it's part of the post-Dieselgate penny-pinching. Screens have become cheap enough that, when they replace enough buttons, it's cheaper to build.

This evolution towards "touch" all over the place: not my thing... In time, I can imagine statistics will prove it leads to more accidents. I have a Mercedes 2018, still mostly press or/and turn and I can do most things without looking down. Still, nice car!!
Yeah it's really dumb how VW is doing that. I even hate using a touchscreen while driving.
I think you guys are using probably too wide of a lens and it distorts the car, or you cropped and messed the aspect ratio, look in 2:17 at the front wheel, it looks elliptic

@@blue-ck9ns ok but shooting brake is literally a brand new car in a sense there has never been a arteon station wagon, but then again its just a variation from the sedan one. My apologize, had no idea there was a word for redesign. Not didn’t really see the difference between refresh, redesign and face lift, but now I do. The changes are subtle, because some of the changes go in different categories, but still can mean other things. But I guess since the engines are new then it is redesigned.

Grrr another sweet wagon that we won't get in the US. So frustrating! I hate SUVs. I would ditch my Macan S for this.

You probably get used to the capacitive buttons though. I got my Golf 8 for half a year now. While I don't have the R-line steering wheel (so I have normal buttons on the steering wheel), I do have the new Golf 8 infotainment controls. And honestly you get used tot hem and then they are just like any other system. Clunky at first? yes. But like anything you get along with it just fine after using the car for a while. So these capacitive things are worth it because of the design of them in my opinion.

I even hate how VW doesn't offer a touch controller for the infotainment systems in their cars. Touch sensitive things look nice, and are great to use while stationary. But are hell to use while driving.

We are driving the Golf 7 GTI and the new Skoda Scala with Sports Package. Both have just great steering wheels. Especially the one in the Scala looks and feels really premium. It has two chrome dials and is covered completely with perforated leather.
Why did they put such a cheap plastic thing in the most expensive and top of the line Volkswagen? 🤔
The AC unit is a downgrade, too.
And I also think, that the both LED strips in the grill, look like straight from the Baumarkt 😉 Same as the fake exhaust.
The Arteon is such a cool car. But these details make the difference... In a bad way 👎🏼
If only they brought this to Canada *sigh* I don't understand people's aversion to estate/wagon type vehicles here in North America.
I don't either. They don't seem to like hatchbacks either, even though they are a lot more practical than sedans.
