  • Today on the WorkBench, I am building the “Surf Shark” 1959 Cadillac Ambulance. Initially, I was thinking that I could build this as an actual ambulance instead of a surf board haulin’ hippie mobile. So, with this in mind it gave me an idea… Why not make it into a “Hip” ambulance with tons of chrome and shiny Steelies?
    If it weren’t for the molded in exhaust system I would add chrome side pipes. Oh well, I can’t have it totally my way all of the time…
    I hope that you enjoyed watching this video as much as I did building the kit.

    That looks great! Like a flashback version when it was newer and nicer. Before it became Surf Shark. I went full-hippie surfin' hearse with mine. Fluorescent yellow, orange, pink and green lace panels running through black. Peace sign and pot leaf on the roof. Blower, side pipes and mag wheels from the parts bin. It's pretty wild, just have to finish it.

      Thanks! This kit has so many possibilities it's unreal. I have another one in the stash that I'm thinking about doing as a hearse. I'm not sure what I am going to do about the wheels for that build yet. I'll cross that bridge when I get there. Your build sounds like a very interesting take on this. I can see it like that especially with the included surfboards.

    Looks fantastic. I just picked this kit up today in hopes I can turn it into the Ecto-1 but after seeing it as an ambulance i may just keep it an ambulance. Great job man!

      Thank You! This kit has so many possibilities it's unreal! I found the light bar tops for the ECTO-1 in the middle of the window section. It wouldn't take much to build bases for these and mount them on the roof. I have another one of these "Surf Sharks" and I may build it as another ambulance but maybe different paint scheme and with the more modern light bars... Anything is possible! Good Luck on your build and thanks for watching!

    I like that version better than the Polar Lights Ecto-1/1a because AMT did away with the 6 nubs for the Ghostbusters signs on the movie car. Though for a stock ambulance/hearse, some modifications really need made in the rear of the interior to get rid of the Ghostbusters mods from the original kit, but all in all, with stock wheels and the appropriate accessories, it would make a very convincing model.

    • @scaleautoguysworkbench
      @scaleautoguysworkbench  9 місяців тому

      I wish that I had taken the time to add the rails on the inside for a stretcher as well as the stretcher itself. The stock Cadillac rims/wheel covers would add more to the authenticity of it being an actual ambulance for sure but I generally build box stock and try to make it look good with what came in the kit box. I have not as yet had the pleasure of building the "Ghostbusters" version of this car. So, I can't really speak to that but I imagine that it isn't far off from this kit aside from the rooftop extras. This kit does have a ton of potential to be a better looking ambulance with the correct amount of part application i.e. lightbars, sirens, signage, correct wheels etc. Thanks for watching!

      Thank You! It is becoming very popular I think because it is not your average everyday Chevelle, Camaro, Corvette, Challenger etc. I would like to think that Round2 would take notice of this and begin producing more average everyday type of cars. Maybe something along the lines of an average four door car or station wagon like JoHan used to do. They can still make them 3 version kits like stock, custom or drag.

      @scaleautoguysworkbench  Рік тому +1

      Bare Metal Foil does take a degree of patience. I have been using it since discovering it over twenty years ago. Some builds are easier to apply it to than others. This one was just tedious enough that I had to take my time with it. I really like BMF, but sometimes, even with all of my experience with it, it does test my patience, from time to time. I never give up on it though. I haven't found anything yet that compares with the look that it gives you. Good luck on your build and thanks for watching!

I usually have about 2 to 3 hours of footage to go through and manage to wittle it down to around 35 minutes using various methods. I don't want to necessarily speed through the build process. At the same time, I don't want to drag it out forever... I'm happy to hear that my videos are appreciated. Thank you for subscribing and watching my channel. • @scaleautoguysworkbench
      @scaleautoguysworkbench  Рік тому

      @@kevinmadmaxfan8132 I built my paint booth myself using a bathroom vent fan, a 66 Qt clear tub with the lid, an electrical switch box, a washing machine power cord with the plug end, a dryer vent hose kit, a scrap piece of plywood, a light switch and a standard wall outlet. Total money spent was around $60.00 US about 1 1/2 years ago. It took about an hour or so to put everything together. It works really well for what it is. You can also buy already made booths from Amazon for a fairly reasonable price. I have mine setup by a window. When I get ready to spray, I open the window, stick the vent through and close the window down on it. Turn on the power and start spraying. Good Luck!
