  • Today I am building this 2005 Cadillac Escalade EXT by AMT. This was a fun build but had a few minutes of frustration when it came time to assemble the front suspension. The kit comes with full glass. So, that means the interior is fully enclosed when completed.
The body fit down tight over the chassis so glue was not necessary to hold everything together. When it came time to attach the wheels was another little bit of trickery. Just apply the glue to the outer ring of the axle attachment point, stick on the wheels and hold for a minute or so.
Once you have all four wheels attached set the stance that you want and leave it set overnight until the glue cures. I got lucky with this step and the wheels still roll.
I hope that you enjoyed watching this video as much as I did building the kit.

This build is from a recent purchase at my local Ollie's Discount Store.

I had totally forgotten about this kit. That blue really pops! If someone produced a 3D printed 2005 Chevy grille and headlights , it would be an easy conversion to an Avalanche.

Thanks! I really like this color myself. I'm sure that if there was someone that printed those, without a doubt you could build this as an Avalanche. I built a diecast Avalanche on the channel a while back and sitting side by side they do look identical except for the headlights and grille. Even the tail lights are similar.

Thank You! I bought a big can of that blue paint and so far I have used it on three different builds and still have plenty left over. Thanks for watching!

I picked up a couple of these at Ollies. I haven’t tried any assembly yet, but imho I think the warpage is a result of cramming so many parts in a box which is too small. The 2021 Charger was also really packed tight.

You could be correct on that point. However, that doesn't explain the same problem with kits like the GMC Jimmy, the Coca-Cola sponsored 1932 Ford Sedan delivery and countless others. I believe that this problem occurs when there is a complete lack of quality control across the board and I'm not talking about only model car kits, it is everywhere these days. 1:1 car parts, major appliances for you home, tools, you name it. If it has a certain countries name on it, it is generally a faulty product due in part of the lack of quality control. The track record of overseas countries producing shoddy products is in every aspect of our lives and has been getting worse since around the early 1990's. We, as the consumer, have our hands tied in the name of maximum profit. So, I agree with your point of view 100% but there are also some mitigating problems at the point of manufacture as well.

I was debating this kit yesterday at Ollie’s. Modern cars/SUVs aren’t really my thing so I didn’t pick it up.

Modern cars aren't really my thing either but I do like a break from doing muscle cars all of the time. This was a great diversion from doing the mundane. You should give one a try! It builds up really nice and looks great when it is finished and for $12.99 at Ollie's you really can't beat the price.

i wish i could get my hands on one of these kit's but no chance in europe they are to expensive

Sorry to hear that.... I would say that the price of it isn't the most expensive part getting this kit over there. Shipping it would drive the cost out of this world. My daughter ships to the UK quite often and the shipping really eats into what little profit she gets from her hand made products.

@@scaleautoguysworkbench yes i know here in europe the cheapest kit is around 70$

@chwurm86 I have spent a little time in the Mediterranean Sea over the years. In all of that time, I didn't see a single model kit anywhere. So, I understand how every kit basically has to be brought in from overseas. Shipping charges can increase the price substantially. On top of that you don't always have access to everything.
