    The Tories problem with "Stop the Boats" is that it's only intended to fool gullible poor people into thinking the reason the NHS is falling apart, the cost of living is so high and the rivers are filled with sewage is because of a tiny number of destitute people. Not because rich people have taken all the money. If people were not arriving in small boats they'd have to pay actors to play the role for TV crews.
    But the Tories have spent so long using the issue of immigration to distract people from their thieving that they actually think it's core Tory policy. Even though stopping immigration is diametrically opposed to their belief in small state libertarianism

    • @futuristwave
      @futuristwave 21 день тому

      huh? The current Tory party under Rishi Sunak isn't about small state libertarianism OR about stopping immigration. They're about protecting the financial system and filling their pockets - the whole Rwanda scheme is just PR/propaganda to make them look like a credible alternative to Labour (they're not).

      @formes2388 21 день тому

      Neo-liberals, no matter what they call themselves - are going to have a hard time.
      Social Liberals have had a reasonably easy time of late - as they have largely been able to avoid talking about the economic problems. But when the economy becomes the serious problem, you are going to have to address the economic ideology.
      Government spending: Needs to go down.
      Taxes: Need to be more fair for working class folk - and the only reasonable way to do that, is to cut spending.
      Regulations: Fewer, but the ones that exist need to be extremely strong. This creates an environment that is good for workers, and good for employers.
      If a party can push that message: They can win.

    Relentless negativity. All the tories have. Looking at how well they have governed the country over the last 14 years, I can see why. Unmitigated disaster is somewhat of an understatement. Brexit will be the gift that keeps on giving, hasn't even started yet. Hung parliament? Yeah I think winning £1 million on a scratchcard is far more likely. Still hopefully the delusion will make the impact of losing the GE much harder.

      @@gregorybiestek3431 Agreed. Lib Dems start in second place in around 80 seats. For Labour to get to 500+ they would have to leap from very distant 3rd places to 1st in dozens of Con/Lib Dem marginals. This is going to be a "Tories out" election and voters will go with whoever is best placed to achieve that. Also I'm not convinced that the Conservative floor is anywhere near as low as 10 seats. My guess would be they'll be closer to 100 (give or take 20). I'm a Lib Dem member, I think we'll do well, but we'll not overtake the Tories in this election.
