MPs fear Tories could face ‘wipeout’ at election

- “There’s an interesting discussion among some MPs in Westminster about whether you could have a wipe out moment for the Tories.”
The Conservative Party could learn some lessons from foreign parties that have been wiped out, but Rachel Sylvester thinks this is unlikely in the UK.

Bye bye the Tories goodbye the Tories Dictatorship

If you put YouGov's poll (Con 18%, Lab 48%) from yesterday into the Electoral Calculus calculator, Lab end up with 551 seats and Cons with 13. Hahahaha.
Try ticking the Tactical Voting Fraction option, with 30% for Labour voters, 45% for Lib Dem voters, and 60% for Green voters.
(These are plausible tactical voting percentages for progressive party supporters living in constituencies where their preferred party is less popular than another one.)
Problem is labour is tory just wearing red.
41% of people polled believe labour is divided and only 35 think its united the remaining 24% don't know (also from YouGov), so 8f most feel it's divided they can't have trust in a party that is at war wirh itself, like the tories are. So support for Labour will be reduced. Therefore with the undecided and tactical voter's the chances of labour winning big is marginal at best, the greater likely outcome will be hung, tory support is low however independant and other parties are attracting attention. If labour win this GE it will be their last too, as the alternatives will swell with former tory votes and some of the tactical and the decided voter's. Labour may win this time but it will also be their last victory.
@@HypocrisyLaidBare : No. 2024 Labour = 1997 New Labour. Starmer = Tony Blair.

Sunak would actually be in a better position if he just acknowledged that the people now want a say and put country before party and called a GE. It wont save him but the longer he drags this out the worse it will be for the tories - the fact he is unelected and hanging on like this is infuriating the public.
No prime minister is ever elected. Only MPs are (and sunak is an elected MP).
But it is an interesting question. Does Sunak care about the Tory party? Or does he only care about himself? If it is the latter, he may stay in office as long as possible to enjoy the benefits.

Want another 2 years pay freeze to fix the economy they destroyed
@@jeffreyuprichard3754 Get real - you need to wise up on the Sub-prime mortgage debacle in the US that caused the crash, and how Gordon Brown saved the entire western banking system from total collapse. Where were you in 2008? What were you reading? Study your history Jeff. A few pointers: check out what Maggie Thatcher and Ronald Reagan did in deregulating the banking and financial systems to enable them to operate freely in re-packaging customer loans and mortgages by slicing and dicing them into nice little money-earners for overpaid executives and easily boosting bank profits massively without creating anything other than eventual utter mayhem and chaos. Check out Milton Friedman and the Chicago boys and the concept of free-market fundamentalism. Those little loan and mortgage packages were simply a means of selling ordinary folk (as well as larger investors too obviously) bits of paper that were supposed to pay them back plus "guaranteed" interest (property based - what could possibly go wrong?!) They were rated in 3 categories: A, B & C. The poor suckers in the USA who bought over-valued properties and took out loans, only then to find they'd lost their jobs and couldn't pay back, lost everything and the domino effect kicked in. Both C and B rated packets became worthless as folks defaulted on their payments. This was nothing to do with the Labour Government, and everything to do with USA "Reaganomics" and Maggie Tory Thatcher free-market capitalism. Study Economics and History, and avoid right-wing media claptrap from the likes of the Daily Mail, the Torygraph, Sun and Express. Avoid GB bloody News too!! Good luck Jeffrey.....
Jeffrey usual crsp …. Wages under labour went up 16% in real terms , last 14 years they be gone up 1% …. As for the economy debt 3 times what it was and the country’s credit rating DOWNGRADED 4 times since 2014 …. But apart from that you make an excellent point 🤡

How long until the tories bring in PR?
They won't ever.
PR would basically guarantee they will never get complete power ever again, they would have to form coalitions which would mean they couldn't give public money to there mates which is the whole point.
Under PR they would only have been able to form a government twice since WW2, as it stands they have been in power most of the time.
They won't. The constituencies have been set up so that FPTP greatly benefits the conservatives. If we had PR then they'd only have won one election in the last 14 years
They won’t consider PR until they get reduced to being the 3rd largest party in Parliament, IMO.
They won't be bringing anything in for a long time
They already tried that in 2011 when they had to allow a vote on it to keep Clegg and the Lib Dums happy in the coalition. It was rejected by a huge margin by the electorate.
Two things wrong with the Tories (we can’t call them, “conservatives,” as they do not fit the definition of that word by any measure) are: 1, No one recognises them anymore. They have lurched so far to the right, they frighten decent people. 2, They don’t stand for ANYTHING. They have no clear policies and cannot agree internally about anything!
I honestly think they could have gotten away with their string of abject policy failures, biblical levels of corruption and fundamental incompetence had they been all singing from the same hymn sheet and not in the early stages of a civil war, which promises to be the most entertaining part of this story, post-election. Voters have never been all that moved by Tory corruption in the past.
But the Americanised radical rightism that has been used to so deliberately divide the voters and the belligerent language we’ve heard from the front benches; Cabinet ministers literally insulting more than half of the electorate with name calling, is just very un-British and has done more to alienate people than anything.
The Tories were finished after Partygate Justifiable anger from the Public.
I think they'll get less than 100 seats. I might even place a bet
50 to 99 seats 5/2 on Betfair 100 to 150 seats also 5/2
90-110, but you could be right.

@@davidpearson243 I'm going for fewer than 50. What odds are they giving on that?
@@johnmartin7158 I think the 100 to 150 is a good bet (I don’t bet any more) as Basil Fawlty said “that particular avenue of pleasure has been closed off”
There's always some silent tories out there sadly.
I cannot see why anybody, except the rich ,would vote for these clueless Tories.
Times up for the Tories, The Republicans in the US and the Liberal Party in Australia. Not surprising given the mess they've made in their respective countries over the years.
Short memory there lad, Labour stuffed this country up pretty bad too and we are still feeling the repercussions from some of their decisions today. Conservatives are toast, and rightly so, but I can almost guarantee in 4 to 8 years we'll be saying exactly the same thing about Labour because they won't have addressed the same issues the Conservatives won't address and like the Conservatives, they are scared to death of social media and the centrist legacy media. They won't be able to affect change without causing a s**tstorm in one direction or the other and will therefore be paralysed - just like the Conservatives.
Conservatism is a zombie movement that causes disaster after disaster.
Not happy about labpur getting in, but conservatives deserve a massive lesson! They wrecked this country. Immigration, crime, cost of living, health services etc... terrible!!!
Why is immigration top of your list???? We need immigrants. Please vote Reform and disappear like Farage
I have already placed my bet at the bookies that the seat allocation after the election will be Labour 560, Lib-Dems 40, Others 28, SNP 12, Tories 10.
I would revise upward your SNP figure! the SNP are down but not out by any means, many fail to appreciate how much Scottish independence influences Scottish votes.
It's time to change the whole system. For starters, the 'divide and conquer' which has worked so well over the centuries could be countered by the left voting workers and the right voting reform. That would stir things up a bit.
It’ll be 1997 all over again. Only this time Labour aren’t riding a wave of optimism around a charismatic leader with a plan. Rather, people feel they’ve got no choice
I don't care either way. We need change so badly. These are criminal rip off merchants, bankrupt our country, pulled us away from our nearest neighbours, culture wars, criminalising benefit cheats whilst allowing their mates to steal PPE contracts and tax avoidance.
