Still watching the video but the important part to me is if someone is honest about their status. If they are open about it, I’m able to filter their advice through that filter.
If someone is lying (though this is super hard to tell normally) that definitely turns me off of their programs, and their channels.

Although everyone’s genetics are different so you shouldn’t expect to look exactly like the influencers with plans , especially as they normally have exceptional genetics , it is important that you know the person’s situation before buying their plan , to not give yourself in realistic expectations and to know if the programs are effective for someone no matter how long they’ve been training

I appreciate you being natural because as someone who is also natural, I want workout and nutrition advice from someone whose advice actually applies to me. I wasted a lot of time trying routines from guys who were huge and looked like they knew what they were talking about. But then I tried their routines and realized that getting results naturally requires more strategy, time, and careful training/exercise selection. Guys that are juiced don't realize that even though they are working hard, their results are largely from the drugs and they have no business sharing or selling their routines that work for them to guys that aren't juicing also.

There is a possibility of a pulmonary and/or heart condition. Jugular distention like that’s is typically a sign of heart congestion. I’m not saying he has right sided heart failure or anything but by the looks of it there is a possibility. He may want to get it checked. When at rest your jugulars should not be distended like that, only during straining or yelling or something along those lines. And looking back at his early videos they weren’t as prominent as they are now so that definitely raises my concern. I truly hope he gets it checked out before something bad comes from it.
It’s a little ironic, sometimes past PED abuse can cause a heart condition like this, wouldn’t that be funny if we found out from this that he has also been on PED’s this whole time!!!!? Hahaha 😂 J/K J/K but seriously I hope he sees this, I’ve tried leaving this comment on a few of his other conditions but nobody saw it.

Your entrance was click bait, he never claimed that a natty would get the same results from training as an enhanced person.
His main argument was that people who train natural use the argument "I dont want to overtrain". When in reality most natties aren't getting anywhere near over training, sure some do but a small minority. He wasnt arguing that enhanced and natty can train with the same intensity either, only that natties underestimate what they can actually do. Given his extensive training as both natty and enhanced his advice seems spot on.

This video is pointless considernig all the things Greg himself says regularly:
    1. Don't hire a coach because of how they look, but for their knowledge.
    2. Openly admits that he isn't natural, but there is plenty of footage from the time when he was - so no need for false expectations.
    3. That everyone should max out their natural potential before even considering gear, and that it may well take 10+ years to get there. He made the exact same criticism as you that people certainly do not get to that level with 19.
    4. That everyone has different genetic conditions so comparison isn't that useful to begin with.
    5. That you need to train every muscle group at least twice a week.
Seems like the opposite of creating false expectations to me. Actually he sets lower expectations as you, his estimate for a good first year was way below 20-30 lbs of muscle.

@@kevinhedman2314 He's not wrong. People put on a lot of weight in their first year, but not all of it is muscle. It's glycogen, water, and fat. Also beginners tend to not know what bodyfat levels look like, so they don't actually know they've gained a lot of fat. Not to mention the fat that doesn't sit on the surface. This happened to me, I put on 30lbs in my first year and I thought it was all muscle, but after dieting down, half of it was fat. If you understand what a pound of muscle actually looks like you know that Greg is right, 15 lbs is a hell of a lot of muscle. It's enough to make you look jacked to the average person (small to the gym bros though).

I don't care about Brandon but I think Greg is right about this one, I got quite a few friends who say that they cant get big because they aren't on roidz or how they are too tall to look buffed and they don't train for shit& give up in month or two of mediocre ( at best) training.
That's why I understand where Greg is coming from and can't even imagine how it is for someone who coaches people for a living, he says he was natural Lifter for 20+ years and 95% of his advice is on point if you ask me.
About the 12-15 being the perfect range, I guess if you go into a longer conversation with him and start adding stuff like reaching platoe ( if that's how you spell it, ot native English speaker) and other variables, he will suggest that you change the workout and find what works out for you ( I think he mentioned something in these lines in one of his older videos).
Anyway, great video as always and hoping to see a colab with him soon!

The basic principles are not the same. You can train your arms once every 5 days for 2 hours straight and make amazing gains, because they recover for a longer period. If you do this arm workout as a natty you're not gaining anymore after 24-48 hours, while having heavy doms which cripple your other workouts. It's a totally different ballgame

    The main difference is recovery.
A muscle stimulated is a muscle that will going through a process of building to adapt hence muscle growth. Steroids speed this process.
Just because you’re natural doesn’t mean your plan will work better for a natural person. The muscle responds to stimulation, to what extent depends on genetics. I’ve known so many people on cycles, eating right and sleeping and still look like crap. Genes.
Stimulate, feed, rest and repeat and while you’re at it, don’t compare your gains to others, we all respond different.
    Simple as that.

You sound like you agree almost completely with Dr. Greg. Greg always advises people to train naturally, he trained and competed naturally for decades, he often states that taking steroids is a bad idea, he advises training hard for everyone, he acknowledges that the steroids let you get a lot more out of the training so there is a difference in the results. Honestly, it sounds like you are trying really hard to find something to disagree with but are struggling.

The eye opener for myself is knowing that I am the same age as Scott and I do not have that physique. I stumbled onto Scotts channel when I was watching his old videos on performing the techniques correctly. I was already in the process of making a change, but it was Scotts videos that made me believe I could attain actual natural gains. I have tried so many crash course exercises, some that left me very injured for weeks. I have to say, I feel safe watching Scotts videos because if I listen correctly, I will not injure myself in the process unless it is my own fault through bad form. I never attempted squats before because I never saw the point in them and I thought they looked strange to me. I reached a point in my life when I decided that I did not want the best shape of my life to be when I was 18 and then just be out of shape forever until it killed me literally. The problem in modern society is that literally everyone has some advice to give about weight loss and building muscle. The even bigger problem is that the people Scott is talking about know most of us do not know any better and that we will most likely try the things we see done and I have to admit I have had some very close calls in the gym, one incident left me unable to walk up the stairs in my house for nearly 3 months because I hurt my leg muscles that bad trying the newest Fad workout on the market. At least here I know the benefits of pushing myself to the point of not getting injured. I absolutely agree with how Scott feels because when I was younger I was willing to believe anything I heard just to not look like myself anymore. And the people he calls out prey on the younger youths that will believe this Gahhhbage. Also, I am a big DBZ fan like Scott so there's that too lol. Thanks for reading this far if you did.

I am an older lifter who has been in gyms since the 1980's.
I disagree with Greg on training is the same. Bro Splits were started by the guys of the Golden Era. 1960's to 80's Because they figured out that on Drugs, they could do a 3 hour morning workout. Go home eat and sleep, then come back to the gym to hit another body part for 3 hours. They had recovered that quickly. Naturals cannot do that effectively.
This is why almost every bodybuilder in the 1930's -50's did Full body workouts. 3 times a week. The Silver Era guys looked great. Like Leroy Colbert and Marvin Eder.
Second, if you think as a natural you can do just single joint exercises to build muscle, you are sadly mistaken.
You have to do compounds exercises first to build strength, then do your single joint exercises.
Guys on drugs can build muscle quickly doing single joint exercises. Because they are over the top enhanced. Any exercise they do will build muscle.

    2) People don’t care if you’re natty or not WHEN YOU COMPETE professionally Scott! I don’t mean the little natty league. I mean Mr Olympia league.
    3) Ofcourse Greg sees a difference between natty and enhanced...how many videos have you watched? He DOES not want you to be like him, he wants you to be yourself!

I've watched many of Greg's videos, and I'm always amazed at those who criticize him conveniently forget to mention the two decades he trained and competed naturally. Second, I see many that have YT channels that regularly talk about being natural, which there is no way to prove they've always been natural, so why keep talking about it? Third, anyone whose been a trainer for many years has likely trained countless guys on drugs as well as numerous guys that are natural, so anyone with half a brain can do an excellent job with both natural or not.

Logan Waltz you can't hit your natural limit within 2 years. Greg doucette was natty from 10 (when he started lifting) all the way to 33. that's when he hit his limit. most of the classic/men's physique competitors started juicing in their teams before they hit there natty limit. this is def the case with Harding. hopping on gear Likley accelerated the progress they would have made naturally and than allowed them to go beyond. it takes a long time to hit your natty limit due to the law of diminishing returns your first year lifting you might gain 20 pounds of muscle, than 15 than 5 than 2 than 1 so although the years beyond 5 make negligible gains over time they still accumulate if that makes sense.

The other day I did EIGHT sets of squats. A heavy 3x5, 2 sec pause squats for 3x8, and then 2x10 speed squats. Then I did max hill sprints on the treadmill after.
    1) I was 38hrs fasted
    2) I am turning 39 at the end of Dec. So like Scott have been an athlete my whole life and am still able to train like I did when I was 20. :)

Good video Scott. I also follow Greg and appreciate his no bs approach. Regarding breaking through plateaus, there is a catch that I see nobody mentions. So, I have been training for 28 years now (started at 16, now 44), and reaching your peak or plateau is normal and the thing that nobody mentions is the fact that eventually you are going to get to a plateau that you just cannot break no matter how you modify your training, food intake or sleep. So just saying there is a certain natural limit for everyone. This natural limit usually coincides with your natural peak production of testosterone and other anabolic hormones in your body which is around late 20s or early 30s (everyone is different). So when you reach this plateau, you can do nothing about it. From then and onwards your strenght will gradually diminish with time because of the lower production of natural anabolic hormones (this is of course with the presumption that your training, diet and rest are on point). And all channels seem to propagate the idea that if you just do this or that (tweaks on training or diet) you can break through. I also do get the value of these videos because most people do not have a well structured training program, diet or recovery. Just my 2 cents.

I guess I’m the odd man out. My family is happy that I’ve been on them. After 4 botched surgeries, heart failure, kidney failure, liver failure, ruptured spleen , ruptured appendix, collapsed lung, having roughly 75-80% of my intestines removed, and last but not least not being capable of producing testosterone because of damaged testicles due to radiation poisoning I will say for sure steroids have only helped me!
No more antidepressants, no more erectile dysfunction medication (at only 27 years of age), no more waiting 4+years for an incision site to finally close up meaning no more colostomy bag or needing to serilize the incision site and no more using medical tape on my abs to hold them shut to to be able to go to the gym, I’m finally free thanks to testosterone therapy.
And if any of you have ever needed to take daily oral iron medication especially with bowel issues it can destroy your life pretty much because of the the havoc it can wreak on your gut.
Luckily I’m also prescribed Deca, and obviously testosterone. Those steroids have actually given my life back to me and not taken it from me.
Unfortunately people don’t know the difference between properly using a drug(s) for its intended therapeutic use and abuse, all thanks to the guys in the fitness industry that are on the exact opposite end of the spectrum as the drug abusers.
I’m not saying Scott purposely is choosing to not to understand that use and abuse are two completely different things, but saying somebody is a “tool bag” because they promote the use of steroids (which he doesn’t) is choosing to neglect what steroids were made for. I hope Scott sees this and understands that steroids aren’t the enemy unless you make them the enemy, and they don’t need to hurt you unless you abuse them.
Please make a video about that.

Myself at age 33....lifting heavier weight then in my 20s...never thought of taking gear. I'll be lifting until my old age, because of the knowledge I've learned from people like ScottHerman and athleanx. The strength I gain; is 100% because of my hardwork

  • @MasterInHD
    @MasterInHD 4 роки тому +8

I love both you and Greg, but I gotta give this one to you, Scott. Greg says that there's no difference in training between natural vs. enhanced athletes, but he's wrong. Unnatural athletes can get away with basically doing 'fluff & puff' exercises and could STILL make crazy gains and STILL manage to PR in every workout w/o the need of progressive overloading, metabolic stress and mechanical tension (like you said). This is not the case with natural athletes because after your nooby gains, the body needs something different in order to grow. You can't just be doing the same exercises with the same reps, sets, and weight after your first 2 years or so, while being natural and still manage to grow. Sadly, that is not possible for us natural athletes.
That being said, nutrition also changes and it changes a lot between enhanced and natural athletes. Unnatural athletes can get away with eating SO MUCH more junk because the diuretics and steroids will help prevent you from gaining little to no fat at all. For diuretics, it is easier to understand because they help you burn fat quickly, easier and more effective (ex: GHG and Clenbuterol). But, for some reason, people get confused with anabolic steroids (Trenbolone, DBol and Anavar) because they're supposed to just help build muscle, right? Well, yes, but people forget that the more muscle you have, then the more you can get away w/ eating more calories w/o gaining excess fat because just by having more muscle in comparison to fat helps you burn more calories (it is way more complicated than this, but this is just to simplify it for whoever is reading). For example: 220 lb guy who's 10% body fat can eat 4,000 calories and still gain less fat than a 220 lb guy who's 25% body fat and who's eating only 2,500 calories. This is the exact same reason I think certain UA-camrs who claim to have 'amazing' genetics and an 'amazing' metabolism and their maintenance is like 6,000 calories and eat junk all of the time (*cough* MattDoesFitness *cough*) are on some type of PEDs.
TL;DR: Scott is right on this one. Also, enhanced athletes have a better edge and have it way 'easier' in terms of training & nutrition.
Source: I've been training naturally for 3 years now (23 y/o) and I have managed to build a decent physique for being natural with just average genetics (because of hard work and educating myself w/ channels like Scott's), that even some enhanced people would dream to have.
