The very fact that one of Goku's first lines in this film was "Teach me how to get the girl" shows how little they actually cared about him as a character or about Dragon Ball at all.

Fun fact: this movie was partially responsible for dragon balls return. Toriyama said that this movie pissed him off so much it was one of the reasons he made battle of gods. So you can thank this movie for super being a thing.

The way James Marster delivers each line as Zamasu is just so phenomenal and has so much passion behind it. James Marster is single handily the reason why english dub Zamasu/fused Zamasu is my favorite villain in all of dragon ball.
Fun fact: The series creator, Akira Toriyama, absolutely loves Hollywood movies and was very excited when they announced Dragon Ball Evolution. He was hoping to be involved with the film and gave advice to the crew, before being told he wasn't going to be involved. Toriyama was so offended by it and the movie, he decided to return to Dragon Ball after over a decade to create his own Dragon Ball movie; Battle of Gods. This led to Toriyama revitalizing interest in the series, leading to the creation of Dragon Ball Super
I worked at a movie theater when this movie came out. Morning shift, two guys went in, a third guy went in shortly after, that was it for the whole showing. I go in to clean, wave the two guys out, the third is asleep in his seat, i go in try to wake him...He slumps over, foaming at the mouth! Paramedics were called and the guy was able to walk out under his own power but...the movie damn near killed him.
When I was younger I fell asleep to this movie as well, wondering where the hell super saiyan is, being older I care more about how the lore is fucked and how shit this garbage was
I mean, the scene where Goku grabbed Piccolo's cape and wrapped it around his head and then whispered "It's Dragon time..." was so bone-chillingly good that I would nominate it as the one the most moments of all time unironically.
I love how Goku is dressed like someone who does the bullying, and not the other way around. He's dressed like the typical cool kid from the early 2000s.
One of the best theater experiences I ever had. Went to the midnight showing for this movie and it was like 20 adults that all knew it was going to suck. Not long after it started, things quickly and naturally turned into a live rifftrax. Twas a magical night
That must have been an absolute riot. There's no better feeling than seeing who can rip a crappy movie the hardest. My friends and I did the same thing for the remake of The Fog back in 2006. By the end of it the entire audience had turned against the film, and me and my friends were riffing on it while everyone laughed and joined in. I'll never forget near the end when the protagonist chick walks up to the pirate ghost chief in the middle of the field, I said "Make out with the Flying Dutchman!" and then she ACTUALLY kissed the ghost for some reason. The entire theater burst out in surprise, disbelief and laughter. I couldn't believe I called that.
I had a similar experience with my friend in high school when seeing that awful GI Joe live action movie (the first one, it was amazing enough it had a sequel) but nobody in the theater seemed feel the same way. I was a bit surprised, because it was a terrible movie.
At least it would maybe be a solidly 2-star or 1.5-star movie out of 5. It would be worth no one’s time, but it wouldn’t be this offensive. It might even be slightly more coherent because it wouldn’t be trying to include any the most superficial details of the source material.
This film was the Morbius of my high school days: everyone was ironically convinced that it was the greatest movie ever made, to the point where kids were socially shunned because they didn’t get the joke or play along with it. This went on for almost five months.
I remember when jokes could live on for months at a time, nowadays a joke or a meme can't exist for more than a few days before people start screaming and crying about how it's "old" and "stale" and "isn't funny anymore"

You can tell that Dragonball Evolution is indeed a revolutionary film in adaptation history when Goku looks like Billie Joe Armstrong and Piccolo looks like Brainiac who has some meth crystals instead of kryptonite.
My personal trainer and I both like DBZ. Years ago, he was telling me about how awful this movie was, and he said to me: *"When I first saw Piccolo, I almost killed myself."* And I think that pretty much sums up this entire film.

When my brother was in the military in Korea, he wanted to bring me something back as a gift. He knew I liked anime and was aware of the name "Dragonball." He didn't know that I'd already seen this travesty on film so he got me the DVD. I couldn't bring myself to tell him how horrible it was until years later, and by then the DVD had fallen out of it's case and randomly teleported around the house for a while, always in the floor.
The worst part about that Piccolo costume is it was originally WAY worse. He wasn't even green-skinned originally, the actor actually had to work with the makeup crew to get it looking closer to the original feel

The actor playing Goku read all of Dragon Ball AND Journey to the West as preparation only for the director tell him his roll was going to be nothing like that. I am certain the way he plays Goku throughout the movie was an act of passive aggression and I can't blame him for that.
Big props to James Marsters, who played "Piccolo" in this "movie" and came back to redeem himself as the official voice of Zamasu in Dragon Ball Super. Did a pretty damn good job at it too.

@@KamronA everything was unrealistic. piccolo wasn't supposed to be green and the oozaru was some humanoid fish creature (there are leaks online if you're curious) but it was so poorly received by test audiences they changed it last-minute, hence the shoddy CGI. that also balooned the budget. it was in the range of 15 mil initially (from what i remember) and it got to around 40 mil. in the end. so yes, by all intents and purposes, this was a low-low budget cash grab.
The funniest thing to me about this movie is that in failing to make the actors look like Goku & Chi-Chi, they made them look almost exactly like Gohan & Videl.

Fun fact: They were originally going to make Demon King Piccolo a _regular-ass human businessman._ The actor, James Marsters, who actually read/watched the source material, had to negotiate to get us this much. Also this film is the most useless Yamcha has ever been. His original introduction at least had him nearly beat Kid Goku and take out some competent villains, but here he contributes actually nothing combat-wise. And Piccolo's henchwoman here is Mai. You know, Pilaf's incompetent womanchild sidekick with no powers whatsoever.
Fun fact about the actor for Yamcha: His name is Joon Park, the leader of the KPOP Rap group G.O.D from 1999-2005. In 2006 he took a hiatus from music, moved back to L.A. and pursued acting. He first did a cameo in Speed Racer (yes, the live action one) as a nameless Yakuza Driver and then took this role, where he injured his back and had to rehabilitate himself for over 2 years. So his 'acting' is a mere consequence of his inexperience... But re-watching that scene, Imma have to agree with Charlie.... It's basically anti-acting..

james is such a cool person, i first knew him as spike from buffy the vampire slayer. he was so on board to be casted in DB:Evolution, im pretty sure he instantly regretted it as soon as he read the script. im glad he came back to voice one of the best DBZ villains, it must have been terrifying for him to return after all the hate he got from the film.
He’s someone who consistently cares about his work. In this movie he’s thr only reason Piccolo even vaguely resembles what he should look like and in Buffy he rapidly went from a fake and cheesy British accent to sounding so natural you’d never think he wasn’t raised in England.
*Not So Fun Fact:* Akira Toriyama was available to help with the Production and give advice on how to make the Movie closer to his work. But the Production Team completely ignored him and EVEN banned him from the Set. A Producer then went on to say that they didn’t need his help because they “knew more” about Dragon Ball than him. I always find it so cringe how sometimes movie producers somehow "know better" than the actual goddamn creator of the source material they are adapting.
This Goku: A socially awkward teenager werewolf, who asks how to get laid from his airbender grandpa. Actual Goku: A ten year old were-King-Kong alien living in the mountains, who thought marriage was food. This had to have been intentional. No one can do something quite like this, without actually trying to create pure narrative/visual mockery.
I remember watching this in theaters with my older brother and a friend, and we were flabbergasted. We could not believe how bad it was, and we didn't even talk after walking out of the theater. I don't think we spoke about it until several months afterwards; it was almost as if we had a shared hallucination. To this day, this is the movie that I hate more than any other, and is the reason why I will never have faith in any live action adaptation of an animated show. The director/writer (can't remember which one, may be the same guy) came out a few years later and straight up apologized, saying he never knew anything about DBZ and it was just a paycheck. Good o'l hollywood.
I genuinely got disgusted after watching this movie as a kid, I loved watching the main series and the og animated movies, so when I saw this I got excited because it was a dragon ball movie I have never seen before, and it was live action, but I have since been traumatized by the horrors this movie contains, but as other people said, it lead to dragon ball making a big comeback, I wish I could have kept this trauma back in the 2000s where it belongs.
Something absolutely hilarious, is that the guy who played piccolo, James Marsters, voice acted in Dragon Ball Super as Zamasu, another villain. He killed that role, and became a great character. It's so ironic how he was part of one of the worst movies ever, but came back to the dragon ball franchise and voiced an actual good character
He was already a good actor though. He was the vampire Spike in Buffy The Vampire Slayer. he was hilarious as that character and genuinely the only good thing about that show. He made having to watch Buffy with my mom as a kid more way more tolerable. Edit: buffy came out way before DBZ Evolution btw. That’s what I meant by “he was already a good actor”.
The only actor who definitely made a comeback was the actor for Piccolo (James Marsters) as he went on to voice Zamasu in DBS, and he is the only reason they kept Piccolo color accurate in the movie as opposed to the blue color they were planning on giving him.

As someone who still refuses to watch the film, every review and clip I see of the movie just makes me more and more confused. What is happening? How could they mess up that bad? Is Goku in fucking school and getting bullied?? And actually cares about getting women? And fitting in? How can you deviate from a source so much and still have the balls to call it Dragon Ball? I'm less angry and more amazed honestly that this even got made.

It's how I felt with the Death Note movie. Literally, none of the characters were what they were suppose to be. L was a idiot, using random people to draw out Light. Light was being manipulated by the love interest and not the other way around. It was just so fucking bad. The only decent part of it was Willem Dafoe as Ryuk. His voice is superb for the role. (though woulda been nice to have the original voice actor as he knocked it out of the park in the Dub Anime)
I remember when this movie first came out when I was 8/9 and we went to the cinema intending to watch another movie. I saw the dragon ball evolution movie poster and I begged my dad to let us watch it however he made us watch the initial movie that we went to see. Couple years later i watched dragon ball evolution on tv or wherever, can’t remember. I now thank my dad up till this day for not allowing us to watch the movie that day.
I remember being so excited as a kid to see this, but my parents wouldn’t take me. Little did I know, I was saved from seeing this disaster of a movie. My older brother had seen it and he said it was bad. I had no idea it was *this* horrific.
Just so you know, the woman that Charlie said was never given a name in the film is supposed to be Mai. Also this movie made Goku girl crazy to the point that when he has trouble being able to do a simple ki blast it's resolved by Chi-chi implying that if he can do it that he can kiss her. (Reminder that in OG DragonBall Goku can immediately do a kamehameha after seeing Roshi do it once)

@@462n I did, me and my whole family watched it in theathers when I was 6. I liked it back then since it was one of my early experiences in watching at theaters. Before watching it, I had some general sense on what Dragonball is which is why it kinda felt weird why Goku is older and American which I didn't mind back then.
They should make a sequel where the first scene is the last scene of the first movie, then Goku wakes up like "that was fucking weird" and they do it from scratch with the actual story.
Dragonball Evolution is cemented in history as the pinnacle of shitty live action movies and serves as the best example as to why live action anime adaptations shouldn’t exist. It was recently announced that Justin Lin was going to be making a Live Action One Punch Man movie and I worry that it’s going to pull a Dragonball evolution. They’re probably going to give Saitama hair and a beard throughout the movie.
Everything in Dragon Ball Evolution is a bad adaptation. The character designs, arcs, cast, acting, and visuals are all wrong. This movie looks like it came from Wish.

I asked my extremely Christian aunty to buy me Dragon ball Evolution as a kid because I was such a huge Dragon ball nerd. I only watched it once, loved it and my aunt threw it the way the next day because she thought it was demon spawn. The reason that the Piccolo makeup looks bad may be because the studio didn’t want him to look like an alien, they just wanted him to look like a normal human. James Marsters apparently went behind the directors back and got made up because he thought it was a disservice to the character not to look at least something like his manga counterpart. So essentially the Piccolo costume is just Marsters in cosplay but I’d give him some points for at least trying to respect the character.
To be completely fair, the director owned up to this disgrace of a film and said he made the project without passion and wanted a paycheck, he apologized and said this was his biggest regret. at least he owned up to it, unlike the director for the last air bender who said he’ll defend that movie till his dying breath

So fun fact about piccolo, the actor who played him actually said that the costume originally was even worse and that he had to tell them to make it look more like the original. My mum knew how much I loved DBZ , so when she saw this was going to be on the year it was released, she recorded it on the TV and told me that there was a dragon ball movie on TV, she watched it with me and I've never been more embarrassed. I will never forget this movie .

Akira Toriyama said that none of the Hollywood producers took his ideas and suggestions into consideration. About 8 years later he said "I had put Dragon Ball behind me, but seeing how much that live-action film ticked me off..." Even the screenwriter said he only did it for the paycheck.
i watched this movie about a month or two ago with my cousin, hoping it would be another one of those live action anime movies that we would have fun cracking jokes and laughing at, and oh boy, yeah, avatar live action was BAD, but at least we had fun making fun of how bad it was, but this movie, before we even reached the halfway point, we were just sitting in silence, completely devoid of any thought resembling a joke, trying desperately to find something, ANYTHING, to laugh at, but there was nothing. by the end of the movie i had a splitting headache. truly an agonizing experience.

Did you see the blue streak in Bulma's hair? That was a subtle touch only a true fan would notice and a great callback to her actual hair color in the anime. When I saw it in the theatre I cried because it was a reference that I knew about.

There is a book called The Letter For The King, Netflix made a live action show based on it. It wasn't anything like the book, it had some names from the book and the most basic concept from the book (that the hero had to deliver a letter to a king in another kingdom). Other than that it is a completely different story that isn't even good, which sucks because the book and it's sequel are amazing. I just wanted to mention this because it was something that frustrated me and it's a similar subject to the video. Sorry for writing an essay.
Piccolo's actor, James Marsters, has to have one of the best acting comebacks in history. He started off as Piccolo in this Godaweful movie but later went on to voice Zamasu in Dragon Ball Super.

I loved Dragon Ball Z - it was my introduction to anime as a child. It was very self-aware and used that for a lot of fun (e.g.: Bulma "Briefs" had a child named "Trunks," who was like King Arthur in how he obtained his sword- which was also an entirely unnecessary weapon considering the powers everyone in this show has). Seeing this movie in early adulthood was scarring.
Bulma is actually a bit mistranslated. It should’ve been Bloomer, and bloomers is an old kind of panties, which makes sense considering her character, showing her panties to get what she wants.

And in the English translation it was pointed out how her name was embarrassing because of its connection to bloomers. But yeah, Briefs is not her name, its her fathers name. So the English translation did mess up there. In the official source, Bulma's last name is never stated. In fact the only last name is dragon ball that has been said is Son. And even then it might not actually be a family name. Son Goku might just be his name.

There hasn't really been any characters that had anything resembling a family name besides Goku. And so I think it's fair to have the theory that maybe Son isn't even a last name. This shit gives me hope that we could see a live-action Bobobo movie in the next twenty years. If Hollywood could make something this goofy using a serious anime as a starting base, and expect at least seven people to watch it, then they know there's an audience for people to go see Dwayne the Rock Johnson in a skin-tight blue dress-shirt, shades, platform boots and a giant blonde afro, flanked by CGI approximations of an orange sun (voiced by Jon Mulaney) and the gelatinized embodiment of Jack Black. All of them are making jokes, explosions and random violence in nearly every scene, as little continuity as a film is legally allowed to have. Would it ruin the careers of everyone involved in production? Maybe. Would everyone have fun wiggin' out? ABSOLUTELY.

With at being said, here is my casting choices for a Live-Action Bobobo film, annotated for clarity: Bobobo-- Dwayne Johnson The Rock was practically cut from stone for this role, in a profound way that I don't think any other Hollywood actor could match. Vin Diesel has the body but not the temperament; I cannot see him going from punching a dude in one scene and wearing a full dress and face of makeup for the next gag. With Dwayne I can. Don Patch-- Jon Mulaney Speaking of dressing in drag, Jon Mulaney's "Proud Asian Woman" bit was what made me realize he could be GNC in a comedic fasions such as lends itself to the role of Don Patch. He can also be shouty and intense, equally important. I really hope, for the sake of comedic timing(and a good blooper reel) that they take notes from the original Star Wars and put him in a hollow Don Patch rendering statue on stage so he can deliver his lines in real time, even if they have to be re-dubbed later. Beauty--Kristen Stewart This is probably my most controversial choice, but hear me out: Kristen was purposefully directed to be a dead-eyed soulless wraith for Twilight. So it stands to reason she can handle the inverse direction, and act utterly exasperated and shocked as needed. Also, we know she can rock a short haircut and has no qualms with dyeing/bleaching her hair. Gasser--Joe Keery My original instinct was to cast Robert Pattinson, just so there could be ample opportunity for jokes at the expense of Twilight. But then he got cast as Batman, and I feel like he would no longer accept this role if offered. He would probably see the role of a teenaged fart-based warrior beneath him now. Joe, however, has acted in comedy outside of Stranger Things, and if the internet can accept whatever will need to be done to give him grey spikey hair, we'd have a strong candidate for the strong-smelling lad. Jelly Jiggler--Jack Black This choice I will 100% stand by, however. Jack would have so, so much fun with this role, and I don't doubt he'd come up with some "nu" running gags for the jolly block of jelly. Softon--Idris Elba I don't think I need to defend this casting choice, Idris has practically made his niche in the industry as the comically serious. Though, to avoid any controversy with this casting choice, he should probably stay strawberry and not revert back to chocolate. Torpedo Girl-- Jamie Clayton So this choice was offered to me by a roommate of mine, and I wasn't sure if this was just her latching on to the (probably unintentional) trans woman vibes of torpedo girl, but I heard her do an interview and she talked at length about playing a trans character whose storyline does not center around transitioning and is played by an actual trans woman. I firmly believe Torpedo Girl is that character and that she absolutely can play her and play her well, because as we all know that the most important T in that character's storyline stands for "Torpedo". Dengaku Man-- Ryan Dillon If you don't recognize that name, I don't blame you one bit; I would hope no five-year-olds are watching cr1tikal. He is one of three recurring voices for Elmo, And that alone should tell you all you need to know. He can play a silly little guy, and when needed can channel the natural hatred of Rocco into the more intense moments Dengaku Man is capable of. Hatenko-- Benedict Cumberbatch C'mon.... tell me it wouldn't be the funniest thing ever to see a British heartthrob/ Marvel movie star, unironically and whole-heartedly stanning an orange ball voiced by a gremlin from Chicago. Plus he does look good in a scarf. Czar Baldy Bald--JJ Abrams Not only is the man naturally bald, but his most iconic roles are as overbearing patriarchal figures with unreasonable expectations for his underlings. Pickles-- Sean Bean My only argument for this is the manga has him die off-screen to explain his absence from the plot, and that joke is a million times funnier if the King of Dying in the First Act is voicing this odd little pickle chip. And finally, the most important casting choice: we gotta give it to the man himself, the unrecognized talen Hollywood desperately needs in a role that suits all of his natural talents: Service Man--Charles White Jr. I don't care how long the run time is or how many sequels there are, there has to be at least one scene where Charlie (while dressed up like a cartoon ghost, mind, this would not be CG) invites the audience to take a look at the glowing glory beneath his shroud. This is essential to the whole thesis of the film, and its the acting debut our man deserves. The Hunger Games couldn't appreciate his talent, Percy Jackson was never good enough for him, no... It's time for Cr!tikal to serve the viewing public the blinding crotch and ass shots that they never knew they needed.

He was hoping to be involved with the film and gave advice to the crew, before being told he wasn't going to be involved. Toriyama was so offended by it and the movie, he decided to return to Dragon Ball after over a decade to create his own Dragon Ball movie; Battle of Gods. This led to Toriyama revitalizing interest in the series, leading to the creation of Dragon Ball Super

I worked at a movie theater when this movie came out. Morning shift, two guys went in, a third guy went in shortly after, that was it for the whole showing.
I go in to clean, wave the two guys out, the third is asleep in his seat, i go in try to wake him...He slumps over, foaming at the mouth! Paramedics were called and the guy was able to walk out under his own power but...the movie damn near killed him.

One of the best theater experiences I ever had. Went to the midnight showing for this movie and it was like 20 adults that all knew it was going to suck. Not long after it started, things quickly and naturally turned into a live rifftrax. Twas a magical night

My friends and I did the same thing for the remake of The Fog back in 2006. By the end of it the entire audience had turned against the film, and me and my friends were riffing on it while everyone laughed and joined in. I'll never forget near the end when the protagonist chick walks up to the pirate ghost chief in the middle of the field, I said "Make out with the Flying Dutchman!" and then she ACTUALLY kissed the ghost for some reason. The entire theater burst out in surprise, disbelief and laughter. I couldn't believe I called that.

When my brother was in the military in Korea, he wanted to bring me something back as a gift. He knew I liked anime and was aware of the name "Dragonball." He didn't know that I'd already seen this travesty on film so he got me the DVD. I couldn't bring myself to tell him how horrible it was until years later, and by then the DVD had fallen out of it's case and randomly teleported around the house for a while, always in the floor.

piccolo wasn't supposed to be green and the oozaru was some humanoid fish creature (there are leaks online if you're curious) but it was so poorly received by test audiences they changed it last-minute, hence the shoddy CGI.
that also balooned the budget. it was in the range of 15 mil initially (from what i remember) and it got to around 40 mil. in the end.
so yes, by all intents and purposes, this was a low-low budget cash grab.
The funniest thing to me about this movie is that in failing to make the actors look like Goku & Chi-Chi, they made them look almost exactly like Gohan & Videl.

I remember watching this in theaters with my older brother and a friend, and we were flabbergasted. We could not believe how bad it was, and we didn't even talk after walking out of the theater. I don't think we spoke about it until several months afterwards; it was almost as if we had a shared hallucination. To this day, this is the movie that I hate more than any other, and is the reason why I will never have faith in any live action adaptation of an animated show. The director/writer (can't remember which one, may be the same guy) came out a few years later and straight up apologized, saying he never knew anything about DBZ and it was just a paycheck. Good o'l hollywood.
Then who they hell paid him? They are the true villains here.

I genuinely got disgusted after watching this movie as a kid, I loved watching the main series and the og animated movies, so when I saw this I got excited because it was a dragon ball movie I have never seen before, and it was live action, but I have since been traumatized by the horrors this movie contains, but as other people said, it lead to dragon ball making a big comeback, I wish I could have kept this trauma back in the 2000s where it belongs.

As someone who still refuses to watch the film, every review and clip I see of the movie just makes me more and more confused. What is happening? How could they mess up that bad? It's how I felt with the Death Note movie. Literally, none of the characters were what they were suppose to be. L was a idiot, using random people to draw out Light. Light was being manipulated by the love interest and not the other way around. It was just so fucking bad. The only decent part of it was Willem Dafoe as Ryuk. His voice is superb for the role. (though woulda been nice to have the original voice actor as he knocked it out of the park in the Dub Anime)

I remember when this movie first came out when I was 8/9 and we went to the cinema intending to watch another movie. I saw the dragon ball evolution movie poster and I begged my dad to let us watch it however he made us watch the initial movie that we went to see. Couple years later i watched dragon ball evolution on tv or wherever, can’t remember. I now thank my dad up till this day for not allowing us to watch the movie that day.
I remember being so excited as a kid to see this, but my parents wouldn’t take me. Little did I know, I was saved from seeing this disaster of a movie. My older brother had seen it and he said it was bad. I had no idea it was *this* horrific.
Just so you know, the woman that Charlie said was never given a name in the film is supposed to be Mai.
Also this movie made Goku girl crazy to the point that when he has trouble being able to do a simple ki blast it's resolved by Chi-chi implying that if he can do it that he can kiss her. (Reminder that in OG DragonBall Goku can immediately do a kamehameha after seeing Roshi do it once)

Before watching it, I had some general sense on what Dragonball is which is why it kinda felt weird why Goku is older and American which I didn't mind back then.
They should make a sequel where the first scene is the last scene of the first movie, then Goku wakes up like "that was fucking weird" and they do it from scratch with the actual story.

The reason that the Piccolo makeup looks bad may be because the studio didn’t want him to look like an alien, they just wanted him to look like a normal human. James Marsters apparently went behind the directors back and got made up because he thought it was a disservice to the character not to look at least something like his manga counterpart.
So essentially the Piccolo costume is just Marsters in cosplay but I’d give him some points for at least trying to respect the character.

There is a book called The Letter For The King, Netflix made a live action show based on it. It wasn't anything like the book, it had some names from the book and the most basic concept from the book (that the hero had to deliver a letter to a king in another kingdom). Other than that it is a completely different story that isn't even good, which sucks because the book and it's sequel are amazing. I just wanted to mention this because it was something that frustrated me and it's a similar subject to the video. Sorry for writing an essay.

I loved Dragon Ball Z - it was my introduction to anime as a child. It was very self-aware and used that for a lot of fun (e.g.: Bulma "Briefs" had a child named "Trunks," who was like King Arthur in how he obtained his sword- which was also an entirely unnecessary weapon considering the powers everyone in this show has).
Seeing this movie in early adulthood was scarring.
Bulma is actually a bit mistranslated. It should’ve been Bloomer, and bloomers is an old kind of panties, which makes sense considering her character, showing her panties to get what she wants.

And in the English translation it was pointed out how her name was embarrassing because of its connection to bloomers. But yeah, Briefs is not her name, its her fathers name. So the English translation did mess up there. In the official source, Bulma's last name is never stated. In fact the only last name is dragon ball that has been said is Son. And even then it might not actually be a family name. Son Goku might just be his name.

With the whole boomer thing you are entirely correct, basically the director was asked by the manga artist if he could help with suggestions for the movie and the director straight up said "no i know what im doing, i dont need your opinion". Hell this movie is the reason the manga artist stopped making the dragon ball series for a while until he got too pissed about how this movie was basically the last thing to his work and said fuck it im making dragon ball super.
I think the guy who made it only wanted money and even said he knew nothing of dragon ball.

This shit gives me hope that we could see a live-action Bobobo movie in the next twenty years. If Hollywood could make something this goofy using a serious anime as a starting base, and expect at least seven people to watch it, then they know there's an audience for people to go see Dwayne the Rock Johnson in a skin-tight blue dress-shirt, shades, platform boots and a giant blonde afro, flanked by CGI approximations of an orange sun (voiced by Jon Mulaney) and the gelatinized embodiment of Jack Black. All of them are making jokes, explosions and random violence in nearly every scene, as little continuity as a film is legally allowed to have.
Would it ruin the careers of everyone involved in production? Maybe. Would everyone have fun wiggin' out? ABSOLUTELY.

Ok, so I have tried twice now to type out this list but it has somehow been deleted twice. As I type this, I am frantically copying every block of text lest Google once more delete my one important contribution to society. With at being said, here is my casting choices for a Live-Action Bobobo film, annotated for clarity:
Bobobo-- Dwayne Johnson
The Rock was practically cut from stone for this role, in a profound way that I don't think any other Hollywood actor could match. Vin Diesel has the body but not the temperament; I cannot see him going from punching a dude in one scene and wearing a full dress and face of makeup for the next gag. With Dwayne I can.
Don Patch-- Jon Mulaney
Speaking of dressing in drag, Jon Mulaney's "Proud Asian Woman" bit was what made me realize he could be GNC in a comedic fasions such as lends itself to the role of Don Patch. He can also be shouty and intense, equally important. I really hope, for the sake of comedic timing(and a good blooper reel) that they take notes from the original Star Wars and put him in a hollow Don Patch rendering statue on stage so he can deliver his lines in real time, even if they have to be re-dubbed later.
Beauty--Kristen Stewart
This is probably my most controversial choice, but hear me out: Kristen was purposefully directed to be a dead-eyed soulless wraith for Twilight. So it stands to reason she can handle the inverse direction, and act utterly exasperated and shocked as needed. Also, we know she can rock a short haircut and has no qualms with dyeing/bleaching her hair.
Gasser--Joe Keery
My original instinct was to cast Robert Pattinson, just so there could be ample opportunity for jokes at the expense of Twilight. But then he got cast as Batman, and I feel like he would no longer accept this role if offered. He would probably see the role of a teenaged fart-based warrior beneath him now. Joe, however, has acted in comedy outside of Stranger Things, and if the internet can accept whatever will need to be done to give him grey spikey hair, we'd have a strong candidate for the strong-smelling lad.
Jelly Jiggler--Jack Black
This choice I will 100% stand by, however. Jack would have so, so much fun with this role, and I don't doubt he'd come up with some "nu" running gags for the jolly block of jelly.
Softon--Idris Elba
I don't think I need to defend this casting choice, Idris has practically made his niche in the industry as the comically serious. Though, to avoid any controversy with this casting choice, he should probably stay strawberry and not revert back to chocolate.
Torpedo Girl-- Jamie Clayton
So this choice was offered to me by a roommate of mine, and I wasn't sure if this was just her latching on to the (probably unintentional) trans woman vibes of torpedo girl, but I heard her do an interview and she talked at length about playing a trans character whose storyline does not center around transitioning and is played by an actual trans woman. I firmly believe Torpedo Girl is that character and that she absolutely can play her and play her well, because as we all know that the most important T in that character's storyline stands for "Torpedo".
Dengaku Man-- Ryan Dillon
If you don't recognize that name, I don't blame you one bit; I would hope no five-year-olds are watching cr1tikal. He is one of three recurring voices for Elmo, And that alone should tell you all you need to know. He can play a silly little guy, and when needed can channel the natural hatred of Rocco into the more intense moments Dengaku Man is capable of.
Hatenko-- Benedict Cumberbatch
C'mon.... tell me it wouldn't be the funniest thing ever to see a British heartthrob/ Marvel movie star, unironically and whole-heartedly stanning an orange ball voiced by a gremlin from Chicago. Plus he does look good in a scarf.
Czar Baldy Bald--JJ Abrams
Not only is the man naturally bald, but his most iconic roles are as overbearing patriarchal figures with unreasonable expectations for his underlings.
Pickles-- Sean Bean
My only argument for this is the manga has him die off-screen to explain his absence from the plot, and that joke is a million times funnier if the King of Dying in the First Act is voicing this odd little pickle chip.
And finally, the most important casting choice: we gotta give it to the man himself, the unrecognized talen Hollywood desperately needs in a role that suits all of his natural talents:
Service Man--Charles White Jr.
I don't care how long the run time is or how many sequels there are, there has to be at least one scene where Charlie (while dressed up like a cartoon ghost, mind, this would not be CG) invites the audience to take a look at the glowing glory beneath his shroud. This is essential to the whole thesis of the film, and its the acting debut our man deserves. The Hunger Games couldn't appreciate his talent, Percy Jackson was never good enough for him, no... It's time for Cr!tikal to serve the viewing public the blinding crotch and ass shots that they never knew they needed.
I was so hyped for this to come out when I was a kid. And even at such a young age I watched it and was like this was possible the worst thing mankind have ever witnessed
