Saw the thumbnail and HAD to come in. I read the manga and was blown away. The Manga is visually impressive and would make for a great anime. When I first saw the first episode when it released I really wished this was an actual crime and people would get prosecuted for it. Crunchyroll dishonored the source material SO HARD that they should have released an apology. Not just towards the fanbase, but the mangaka themselves. Give the manga a chance and try to delete the pictures of the anime in your head. The manga deserves so much love and would really deserve a true, well animated show.

About 2D-3D mixing... In aot final season ep 8, there's a brief fight between eren and Reiner. In that fight the attack Titan is 3D and the armoured Titan is 2D. The models even make contact as the attack Titan punches and breaks Reiner's jaw. Another example of good 2D-3D mixing is of course demon Slayer or anything by ufotable. The Jewels hanging off of Tengen's head are animated in 3D, and so are the Obi attached to Daki's back. Ex-arm just looks terrible because the people who worked on this have never worked on anime before. Also, Charlie needs to watch Gibiate next, another Titan of disgusting 3D animation.
Another example of 2D and 3D being blended masterfully is the Rebuild of Evangelion series. The only 3D is done on machines and some shots of the Evas, and the 3D animation itself is well done. especially on the Eva's themselves.
Not really an action anime but BEASTARS does an exceptional job of mixing 2d and 3d to the point that I didnt notice it until partway through the second episode
i mean plenty of anime mix 2D and 3D. one piece has mixing in random bits of 3D for a WHILE and its almost ALWAYS looked good. plenty of mecha anime do it too and it looks fine. even a shitty isekai with a low ass budget called skeleton knight in another world that just finished this past season, mixed so much 3D in and it actually looked solid. ex arm had no excuse for this dogshit.
Ironically, a sad fact, the team behind animating this Anime is the same guys that animated Sekiro. But telling a bunch of Fromsoft dudes to animate an anime, is just like asking a Brain Surgeon do a Heart Surgery.
You make it sound like Fromsoft themselves were like, "we'll do it". Either way, you people make anime sound like some kind of alien form of entertainment. The dumpster fire of a show wasn't as horrendous as it was simply because they got people who work on games to do an anime. Your animating skills, 3D or otherwise, don't simply vanish *POOF* when changing projects. It's not 1-to-1, obviously, games are quite different, but such a leap in quality doesn't just happen. It's funny, because I would say that telling a *"brain surgeon to still just do brain surgery"* is closer to this situation than what you said.
@Diavolo Jaegar I wouldn't say bad history, they're just not used to animating 2d "anime" stuff, they usually animate for 3d realistic games, it's like telling an anime studio to make a hyperrealistic AAA game
@Diavolo Jaegar Someone can fact check me if I'm wrong but I believe that this is a studio that worked with the guys who made Sekiro but they only helped with things like backgrounds and such. Theyre talented no doubt with how pretty the game looks, but there was so much that was against this series from working out from the start.
The real sad thing is that the manga was actually really good and reviewed well too, but because of the flop of the adaptation and the subsequent preconceptions about the manga from anime watchers, the manga's sales tanked really bad and their sequel was canceled.
As someone who has watched it from start to finish, it really is an amazing train wreck. Really makes you wonder how they looked at their visuals and said to themselves "yeah this is good enough to air".
Thats really what I don't get! Crunchyroll has hundreds of anime in their catalog and they even have a "most popular anime" list to browse through when looking for something new. So they know what a good show looks like. So how then did the executives that run the platform screen this abomination, pay for marketing and then after all of that decide it was still presentable for the public? You mean to tell me not one pair of eyes out of the many it had to have crossed before airing didn't think this looked like the equivalent of plaque buildup on 3 week old unbrushed teeth?????
RWBY's first season animation is honestly just that good it felt stiff at times and there were awkward moments but it's still nice overall 7/10 for it's time as a 3D series
Everyone and their mothers knew this anime was going to be a dumpster fire when they released the trailer. Yoshikatsy Kimura, the director of the ex arm anime, said that he was going to redefine the 3D animation space. Please, a Newgrounds animator could of done better.

1:39 holy shit I thought I was ready for how bad it was going to be but that is so much worse that what i was expecting. I can say with 200% confidence that the characters In this show sit comfortably into the uncanny valley
I bet the mangaka of Ex-Arm goes heartbroken the anime when it got released. Ex-Arm shows you how to not use 3D correctly. I bet even the voice actor themselves probably lost their spirit voicing the character on just how astonishingly bad the animation quality really is
The character being 3D while everything else is 2D for some reason gives me the vibe of when my customized character appears in cutscenes, like, something about the way the 3D guy moves just has that distinct "Gordon Freeman during a half life 2 cutscene" vibe
I studied animation. They most definitely have bugs. It has to do with the type of rig you have. They can pop and twist the wrong way and you do have to fix them. This is definitely a 3D issue anyway
Those were decisions made by the showrunners in order to better portray a grounded, realistic setting. You don't know anything about 3D techno-realism.
The thing is, if you actually have the know how, combining 2D and 3D characters is very possible, Beastars did it, characters that are only on screen once or twice were drawn, cause it would be cheaper than modelling, texturing and rigging a 3D model, only for that model to never be shown again for the rest of the show. Where as characters that are shown a lot got full 3D models. But to combine the two you need to design the 3D characters in such a way that they look 2D, which isn't easy, and if you can't do it, just stick entirely to 3D or entirely to 2D, don't combine the two if you can't make the characters' appearance match across the board.
@@armouredjester1622 You're definitely right tho. Saw the thumbnail and HAD to come in. I read the manga and was blown away. The Manga is visually impressive and would make for a great anime. When I first saw the first episode when it released I really wished this was an actual crime and people would get prosecuted for it.
And bang dream s2-3 has a 2D-3D mixing
Another example of 2D and 3D being blended masterfully is the Rebuild of Evangelion series. The only 3D is done on machines and some shots of the Evas, and the 3D animation itself is well done. especially on the Eva's themselves.
Not really an action anime but BEASTARS does an exceptional job of mixing 2d and 3d to the point that I didnt notice it until partway through the second episode
Karas was another good cg 2d hybrid anime
i mean plenty of anime mix 2D and 3D. one piece has mixing in random bits of 3D for a WHILE and its almost ALWAYS looked good. plenty of mecha anime do it too and it looks fine. even a shitty isekai with a low ass budget called skeleton knight in another world that just finished this past season, mixed so much 3D in and it actually looked solid. ex arm had no excuse for this dogshit.
Amazing to think how the animators watched this beforehand and were like “yeah, this is good enough to broadcast”
I studied animation. They most definitely have bugs. It has to do with the type of rig you have. They can pop and twist the wrong way and you do have to fix them. This is definitely a 3D issue anyway
Yeah.. There was also some issue with weird joint deformation. There rig were not that good to begin with.
It's done so well that I had no idea some of the Beastar characters were only 2D, until this comment lol
