Sadder. The latin American dub had the voice actor of the real (real franchise) goku and pikoro (thats his name in latin american dub), voicing fake (dragon ball evoution) goku and picolo. and not even that could save it
Most amusing thing was that the film actually made money, as part of the reason the effects were seemingly unfinished or just plain bad was constant budget cuts. So essentially they were going to use some of that money cause it did well in the chinese market, but then they became too afraid over the hate and backlash to do so.
To those confused about MasakoX's comment about Goku hating fighting, I believe it was just worded poorly. Goku enjoys and excels at combat, but he hates confrontation. He doesn't like fighting in a negative connotation. The fights he enjoys the most are those that are done for sport, not out of aggression.
Yeah, that's what I think he meant. And everyone above us is chastising poor MasakoX for this and questioning how much of a "fan" he is (there are layers of fanship now? 404 sense not found).
@handsomebrick It's mainly the fact that the word "Fight" can have several different definitions. It's like the difference between "getting into a fight" Which usually means somewhere between petty bickering and violent altercations and "To fight someone" which is more around the definition of combat in general. The former being something Goku dislikes and the latter being what he loves to do. Like I said, it was just poor wording.
+Remus Lupine Glad to see I'm not the only viewer baffled by these comments accusing MasakoX of being a "casual" fan. To me, it sounds like that pre-recorded line was taken out of context and edited in to the video at a poor moment. The only incarnation of Goku we know of that doesn't actually like to fight is the one from this film- perhaps MasakoX was referring to this? It'd be funny to see these comments calling him a "casual" if I wasn't aware of how much work MasakoX puts into Dragon Ball related material. One glance at his channel makes it clear that if there was ever a "Goku expert", that's the guy. And most of these people saying this crap about him probably don't even know the origination of his alias "MasakoX"; for those ignorant, Masako Nozawa is the *actress* (yes, a female) who voices Goku/Gohan in the Japanese version. MasakoX voices Goku/Gohan in the parody series "Dragon Ball Abridged". The sheer number of hours MasakoX had to have spent just working on Abridged makes him more knowledgeable on this subject than all of these commenters put together.
I'm not even entirely sure I agree with that statement since he let Frieza power up to 100%, the fate of the world hinged on his fight with Cell and he treated that fight pretty casually and he enjoyed fighting Kid Buu despite the world ending with the "I hope you come back as someone good" line.
Good question. The better question is why does Goku even care about a house party? He's never had any interest in social gatherings unless food/fighting is involved. Hell, at the time he was still living with Grandpa Gohan, they were living in the middle of the wilderness in a house the size of a shed, with Bulma hitting him with her car being his first instance of human contact outside his grandpa, so why should he care about parties?
AudioCultSG Official in the show it’s called a “Dragon Radar” . Her calling it Dragon Ball Energy (DBE) is a meta joke because Dragon Ball Evolution abbreviated is DBE. It’s a shitty joke
I think the ONLY GOOD THING that came out of this movie is that now Akira Toriyama is determined to make as many new DBZ content as possible so that the fans can forget this movie ever happened. I'm sure i got some of the facts wrong, but that's what i heard.

Goku was never a perv in the manga. He was basically asexual. He had never seen a girl before he met Bulma though, so was initially perplexed and curious to why she didn’t have any ”balls”.
its like the only character trait he has left by the end as they make him dumber and dumber and less likeable while trying to make his sons the main characters...goku even was willing to risk the safety of earth vs piccolo just so he could win the tournament finally...its actually a pretty big arc where he lost the first 2 to 2 allies and wants to win legit with no help for once...out of the 5 canon tournaments he entered its still the only one he won..and no one was around but the people close to him to see it as it should be since they destroyed the area and people fled..only the old announcer stayed ...the same goku who saved them from piccolo and gave his son a bean to recover..gokus crazy man
Wait a minute, Goku DID NOT hate fighting! He trains CONSTANTLY and is always looking for a fighter to match him and grow stronger. He just originally hated when innocents or potential allies are hurt or could get hurt.
Oddly enough Critic's rant at the end actually raises some questions, why does no one ever wish for the ability to raise the dead. It makes more sense than having to go to hell directly to keep bringing the character back. Seriously this is the fourth time Frieza's come back to life and he's the villain!
The dragon can't grant a wish beyond the power of the person that created him. We hear this line a number of times later in the series. This means Kami could revive people and didn't (Krillin, Roshi, Chiaotzu in DB when they die fighting King Piccolo and their bodies remain on Earth), could grant immortality and didn't (at all, to any time, to any of the heroes of the series), could create planets, and didn't... You're asking why no one wished for the ability, when half of the wishes in the series were unneeded to begin with?
1. Because in Hollywood teens and children can't play violent, erotic or anything "bad example" roles! 2. Because Hollywood is racist! 3. And high school because... You know... High school... Or because they are just fucking idiots!
The only thing I will defend about this movie is the casting of a white actor. (not this actor mind you but a white guy in general) After all, Goku isn't Asian. He is from space. Maybe Sayans look more white then Japanese. His character is heavily influenced by superman after all.

"People who don't know the show are being duped into thinking it's good", My mom and both of my sisters had never seen a single episode of any Dragonball series and even they thought this movie blew worse than The Last Airbender and Fan4stic combined.
Hearing the abridged voice of Freeza come out when LittleKuriboh gets really pissed and the voice of abridged Goku yell "CHRIST" really makes this video special.
Everyone is mad about the "Goku Hated fighting comment," and I'm over here asking why they showed a picture of a clarinet when talking about a piccolo... Can't decide if that was a layered joke or just laziness 13:33
I go with both but I'm more angry that they called people who are big Dragon ball fans Stupid (I hate using that word) or in this case calling people who aren't Dragon Ball fans Stupid. And I'm the only person who enjoyed this movie
I have an interesting story with this movie: When it first came out in theaters, a friend of mine had a masochistic idea to go watch this film, So we decided to go and torture ourselves. Along with us was a female friend of ours and her 10-year old son, who was a relatively new fan of the series. Well We go into the theater, and aside from us, it was one other guy. So the movie starts, and within the first 10 minutes, our friend's son started yelling at the screen about how they got the lore wrong and spent the entire movie and what the actual lore was, and he CONTINUED to do this throughout the film's duration and to be brutally honest, it was more entertaining than the actual movie.
And Piccolos actor also really liked dragon Ball and had so many ideas for the character. He actually convinced the director to make him green. Before that he works have been something like an albino namekien
There is only one thing that bothers me: "The original Goku who hated fighting and only did when he had to..." - WTF? The original Goku LOVES fighting, he even gives enemies the chance to heal themselves if that helps them to reach their full potential.
@@InkAndPoet if you wanna blame, blame Fox or the director (or both). Imagine hiring a director who hated DBZ just to cash in the popularity. Not to mention, even the director rejected Akira Toriyama's help.

@Mister Krogan Are you kidding me mate? MasakoX voices a character in and helped write friggin DragonballZ abridged, a show that knows it's source material inside out and uses it masterfully. His own UA-cam channel is pretty much entirely delving deep into Dragonball lore and exploring possibilities and characters. And Kuriboh's worked on the show too, and has similar knowledge. They know their crap, inside and out. But they also know how to make fun of the source material in good sport. They're not just "idiots who don't know what they're talking about", or just want to make fun of the show; they know the show so well that they have the right to make fun of it like that regardless. Don't go around insulting people off guesses you make, mate. If you had any idea who these people are in the first place, you really wouldn't be so quick to have a go at them for not being real fans. But it's pretty understandable that you haven't heard of them. Go watch DragonballZ Abridged. It's not fantastic in the first arc, but once it finds it's feet it can get pretty damn incredible, and way more emotionally complex than the original show. You sound like a Dragonball fan, and if you are, go watch it, I don't think you'll regret it. And again, chill out. You don't need to have a go at people so quickly when you barely have any context. It doesn't help anyone, and you're not doing the other people justice by judging them so baselessly.
@Mister Krogan and seriously, I don't think I can stress just how off you were having a go at them for not being fans. Look them up if you need to. But seriously, give DBZA a shot. It's a damn good show, and it does the source material way more justice than this crappy movie

Oh my gosh Kyle Herbert was the actual narrator of the english dub of Dragon Ball!? That's so cool. And even as someone who has never seen the show, this was painful.
"...Picollo. Who is literally dressed like a Picollo." *puts Clarinet on screen* I can't be mad that people who aren't that immersed in that side of music don't know, but it hurts little ol' Music Major me.
I actually talked to the actor played piccolo he even said that movie was horrible and he gave good explanations apparently the entire cast was lied to on how much the budget would have and what the script along with who was going to direct they were literally fucked and held hostage with contracts
Hell, James Marsters is a BIG Dragon Ball fan and the only reason Piccolo is green in the movie. He had to threaten to walk even with the consequences of breaking contract just to get that. Otherwise, we'd have just gotten James Marston in leather as Piccolo.
During interviews here is what the lying James said "Oh, Dragonball is the coolest television cartoon in the last 50,000 years. It's got a Shakespearean sense of good and evil. The movie has incredible action scenes with characters with unbelievable powers. It's going to be really visually exciting."[1] "Definitely the story of this movie is different from the original. . . . For example, some characters in the original don't appear in the movie. And we try to give it a more gritty and graphic (realistic) feeling. Though there are differences between the two, I think it is all right if the core part of Dragonball remains."[2]
@@rundamic3373 I'm pretty sure what he meant was more along the lines of 'Hated HURTING PEOPLE'. The fight with the Bullies in the movie wasn't the type of fight you would see Goku do. He'd fight actual fighters for sport or Cause they were doing evil stuff. rather then just some bullies for being a holes.
No, Goku didn't "sacrifice the safety of every universe". In fact, he was unaware that the Zenos were planning on destroying the universes anyway. As far as he knew, it'd be just an interuniversal tournament where the best of each universe fought one another. If anything, what he did saved the universes in the long run, since they at least got a fighting chance to survive.
Love your video, just wanted to point out: Masako says at one point that, "The original Goku who hated fighting and really only did it when he had to..." That's not entirely true; Goku, especially in the Japanese dub, is portrayed much more as a saiyan, he loves and anxiously anticipates his next and every fight. He isn't as proud or arrogant as Vegeta, but it is partly why he allowed Vegeta to escape Earth, and requested that Kid Buu be reincarnated as a good person, so as to fight him once again. Despite Sean Schemmel's heartwarming, endearing Goku, he does still have a knack for abandonment and outright groans at King Kai in Super (In English and Japanese) that the last thing he desires is settling down and being a grandpa. Goku is itching for a fight, but that doesn't mean he isn't pure of heart. They could have portrayed that, though they chose not to in this movie and when you're directing 'Hollywood' film, you can afford your research.
I honestly thought he was going to have a cameo where he would temporarily hijack the review, Doug would shoo him off and make a joke about his obnoxious meme obsessed fan base.
You forgot key things that you didn't mention: -Goku is supposed to be 12 since this is an "adaptation" of dragonball, and not dbz -Bulma is supposed to be the first human Goku sees other than his grandpa, so he isn't in any way civilized -Mai works for Emperor Pilaf and not Piccolo, emperor Pilaf and his group were villains that were also there for comedic purposes.
Anthony Hiebert Give Shymalan some credit. He was actually quite faithful to TLA in terms of atmosphere and background, as well as story line. But yeah, it was still really bad with lifeless acting, character motivations being backwards or half-baked, and general disinterest of all characters towards the main goal. Seriously, show me one scene of a character actually showing emotion in the entire movie.
"Get put of here Yugi-blow, you're not even from the right anime." As funny as this is, all jokes aside though, doesn't Littlekuriboh play Frieza in DBZA?
Rossum as bulma did as best she could but she was given nothing...I felt she was bulma..that's something...and james wasn't the worst piccolo ...again just given no good dialogue or things to do...
I was so excited to give this movie a chance when it first came out. My friends and I went to see it, and we were basically the only people in the theater first day. I threw myself hard into suspension of disbelief, gave it every benefit of the doubt. But in the end, I couldn't deny the emptiness it left me with. Nice review
Yeah; I remember that false love confession scene (though only because I only saw Naruto for the first time a couple months ago). That scene was pretty cringeworthy, but at least it brought an end to Naruto's crush so he could instead end up with Hinata, which is far healthier for him anyway.
@Torika Gomutsutchi Thanks. By the time I got to the war arc, I was so tired of binge-watching Naruto that I stopped, tried My Hero Academia for the first time, then went back to watching Naruto once I was done watching My Hero Academia. I've also seen The Last: Naruto the Movie (and only The Last since it's the only canon Naruto movie).
Not the movie, nor the critic got the real idea behind Goku's personality. No, he's not pervy, and no, he never fought only when there was a good reason to. Goku was always clean minded, no thoughts about sexuality even as an adult, and anything that seemed perverted from his side was just curiosity, like in the case he lifted Bulma's skirt... he never saw a girl before at that point. And he only fights because he wants his skill to be challenged and get stronger by facing harder fighters... Having someone strong willing to fight him is enough reason to fight.

Only Hollywood can turn one of the most original manga and anime series into one of the least original movies.

Most amusing thing was that the film actually made money, as part of the reason the effects were seemingly unfinished or just plain bad was constant budget cuts. So essentially they were going to use some of that money cause it did well in the chinese market, but then they became too afraid over the hate and backlash to do so.
So, that was Dragonball Evolution. Whether you're an average movie-goer, or a Die Hard Fan, IT BLOWS!
MasaoX lost half a brain cell reacting to that lmao
To those confused about MasakoX's comment about Goku hating fighting, I believe it was just worded poorly. Goku enjoys and excels at combat, but he hates confrontation. He doesn't like fighting in a negative connotation. The fights he enjoys the most are those that are done for sport, not out of aggression.
Yeah, that's what I think he meant. And everyone above us is chastising poor MasakoX for this and questioning how much of a "fan" he is (there are layers of fanship now? 404 sense not found).
I would like to give the benefit of the doubt, but that is some EXTREMELY poor wording.
@handsomebrick
It's mainly the fact that the word "Fight" can have several different definitions.
The sketch really was surprisingly faithful to the source material.

Why Wouldn’t Goku’s Grampa Let Him Out of The House Just to go to a House Party?I Totally Thought His Gramps Would be Cooler Than That
Good question.

So the movie starts, and within the first 10 minutes, our friend's son started yelling at the screen about how they got the lore wrong and spent the entire movie and what the actual lore was, and he CONTINUED to do this throughout the film's duration and to be brutally honest, it was more entertaining than the actual movie.

Orion White LOL
Yeeeeeaaaaah...that was more disappointing than it should have been.
Glad it wasn’t just me.
Orion White u spelled piccolo wrong but anyway that really upset me
Orion White naw u right he fucked up
Getting Kyle Hebert on this made this _so_ much funnier!
26:37 I swear Littlekuriboh's excited face is the cutest thing I've seen all year. And I've seen puppies you guys. PUPPIES!
omg it’s so adorable!!!
Lol
To quote Doug: “He’s adorable when he’s happy.”
There is an alien in Valerian and the city of a thousand planets that makes the exact same face and it's so funny!
The sight of the Nolstalgia Critic, Little Kuriboh, and MasakoX coming together for one huge project is equivalent to the second coming.

I actually talked to the actor played piccolo he even said that movie was horrible and he gave good explanations apparently the entire cast was lied to on how much the budget would have and what the script along with who was going to direct they were literally fucked and held hostage with contracts
Turner Hoffman for real? How shitty.
It's going to be really visually exciting."[1]
"Definitely the story of this movie is different from the original. . . . For example, some characters in the original don't appear in the movie. And we try to give it a more gritty and graphic (realistic) feeling. Though there are differences between the two, I think it is all right if the core part of Dragonball remains."[2]
his name is James Marsters
Red Dead Redemption glitch, I see
13:09 "Hated fighting"
Goku now: *Sacrifices the safety of every universe just so he can throw hands in a tournament*
I have no idea why he said that. Since when does Goku hate fighting? He’s a full bred Saiyan , he lives for fighting
@@rundamic3373 i think Masako meant "hated killing"
Well, imagine some stupid teens trying to bully the real Goku. I doubt he'd even understand what they are doing, let alone fight them.
" Will Goku be able to fix the hole in the ozone layer caused by all his hair spray used from going super sayan?" I am dying
This movie killed Yamcha...
Well, not that it's a hard thing to do...
TheDarkM oh no Yamchas been Yamchad
TheDarkM *_roastie toastied_*
Adam Shooter everyone was yamchad in this movie
Luckily, Dragon Ball Fighterz has more or less resurrected him as basically Wolverine.
wow, epic burn on Yamcha. Poor Yamcha.
Love your video, just wanted to point out: Masako says at one point that, "The original Goku who hated fighting and really only did it when he had to..."
That's not entirely true; Goku, especially in the Japanese dub, is portrayed much more as a saiyan, he loves and anxiously anticipates his next and every fight.
What he meant was he didnt like fighting as in beating the other person up there a difference between fighting and training and sparring
He was referring to the Goku showed in this movie.
Couldn't have said it better myself
"Ariel would be light years ahead of her time if she was named Bob." Why did this make me laugh so hard? 😂
One word: randomness
"WHY DIDN'T HE DO THAT BEFORE!?!?"
"Ass!"

MasakoX Little Kuriboh and Nostalgia Critic I’m full on in with this

Show this review to Chris Stuckmann. It will please him. Or trigger him.
Also, I really wanna join the High Couch.
owlstag awn He already knows.
I honestly thought he was going to have a cameo where he would temporarily hijack the review, Doug would shoo him off and make a joke about his obnoxious meme obsessed fan base.
Watching Malcolm break down for once is probably my favorite part of the review.
You forgot key things that you didn't mention:
-Goku is supposed to be 12 since this is an "adaptation" of dragonball, and not dbz
-Bulma is supposed to be the first human Goku sees other than his grandpa, so he isn't in any way civilized
-Mai works for Emperor Pilaf and not Piccolo, emperor Pilaf and his group were villains that were also there for comedic purposes.
*TeoGPanda :3* Well, Mai did EVENTUALLY work alongside Demon King Piccolo until she, Pilaf, and Shu were betrayed by the Namekian.
Pilaf = team rocket
*Sees thumbnail*
Whoo this ... this is going to be something.
take into consideration this movie was released around a year before the last airbender.
well shit...
Really? It seems like it came out much longer ago than that, but I looked it up and you are right.
FOX: Oh jeez, we've created the worst adaptation of an animated series of all time!
Shyamalan: Hold my beer.
Anthony Hiebert
Give Shymalan some credit.
"Get put of here Yugi-blow, you're not even from the right anime."
As funny as this is, all jokes aside though, doesn't Littlekuriboh play Frieza in DBZA?
Yeah. He does.
I thought MasakoX did?
@@mdalsted no, MasakoX is Goku and Gohan
@@seansilv25
I know that part, but I thought Frieza might have been another role he played.
13:33 “Literally dresses as a piccolo”. *SHOWS CLARINET*
Justin Chatwin was Goku, Emmy Rossum was Bulma... are we sure this wasn't a prequel to Shameless?
Rossum as bulma did as best she could but she was given nothing...I felt she was bulma..that's something...and james wasn't the worst piccolo ...again just given no good dialogue or things to do...

Hahahahaha good one! 😂
I was so excited to give this movie a chance when it first came out. My friends and I went to see it, and we were basically the only people in the theater first day. I threw myself hard into suspension of disbelief, gave it every benefit of the doubt. But in the end, I couldn't deny the emptiness it left me with. Nice review
The best part of the movie is picking the plants
Putting the plants in the medicine
@@AllHisEngines ok we get it

@@IbadGrammarX mixing the medicine
The best part off the movie is the opening credits.

Sakura: I love you Naruto
Everyone in the universe: 15:37
Yeah; I remember that false love confession scene (though only because I only saw Naruto for the first time a couple months ago). That scene was pretty cringeworthy, but at least it brought an end to Naruto's crush so he could instead end up with Hinata, which is far healthier for him anyway.
@Torika Gomutsutchi I skipped a majority of the filler, but I did finish watching Naruto. It took over a month to binge-watch.
Then how were Gohan and Goten conceived?
you can have sex and not be interested in it, for some people sex is an activity u do because your partner likes it not because u care all that much about it
I'll think of something Luck.
I'll think of something everyone knows Chichi bang him. She might even do it while Goku was sleeping. Lol

You havent seen fun until you watch and hear MasakoX voice Goku in Dragon Ball Abridged if you havent already
Go watch DBZA, its brilliant. It starts off okay in the first arc, but once they find their feet it's incredible and at times beautifully well-written... I don't think you'll regret it :) (P.S. DBZA Cohan's arc is FRIGGIN INCREDIBLE)
@@tomgeytenbeek2207 I'd say with no doubt that I enjoyed it more than the actual show..the clever writing with many times hidden jokes or amazing lead ups, The running gags and beyond awesome editing and Voice Acting, IT TIES IN SOO WELL!
