I like your choices. You use simple design filters that are pleasant to use.
    Thanks for useful video!

Hello and thank you for this video. I saw that you have eheims subtrat in one compartment. Can you please tell me how much is it's volume? I am asking cause i wanna know exactly how much it fits in the top 4 compartments out of the total 6.

Thank you for taking the time to post this video. I am about to modify one of these also. Most canister filters (eheim for instance) place the coarse sponge and pre filter at the top. I saw that you had yours on the bottom. I assumed that having it at the top keeps large particles out of the media and makes it easier to pull that chamber out and do a quick clean vs a full canister cleanout. Have you tried the order of compartments with sponge and pre filter on top and had an issue? It does make sense that you have it the way that you do seeing the stock filters are after the media baskets. Thanks again for the video.

Hi. That depends on bioload. Most recently I had it my planted tank with tetras, so I only cleaned it once in 6 months. I had to clean it every week when it was in my discus tank.

The sponges act as biological media as well. I don’t understand why this gets overlooked.

My priming button broke the first day 😂

Sadly, they don't last long! My priming mechanism only functioned for a month or so

Sorry buddy - you've misunderstood how filters work. "Biological" media is absolutely any non living solid. That includes sponges. I personally dislike sponges because how hard they are to clean/sterilize but it's still "biological" media.

Thanks for the explanation. I'm not going to argue that sponges do not host anaerobic bacteria, just like rocks and driftwood do (which btw we don't call biological filtration), but the purpose of sponges in a canister is to perform mechanical filtration, not biological. I am yet too see a sponge that has as much surface area as lets say eheim substrat and is able to host as much anaerobic bacteria! So if you are saying that sponges SHOULD perform biological filtration rather than bio media I'm afraid you are the one who misunderstands how filters work!!
