Actually if you smash that bio ring open legit there are no holes. They are only on bubble holes. They are really not the best. A nice cheap long lasting replacement is lava rock. Got a 6lb bag at my local hardware store for 7 bucks, 5 years ago. It's is one of the best medias you can use I think.
I never comment on videos. But you need to know you singlehandedly helped me set up my aquarium canister. I was worried because I never had one before but you made it quick and painless. Keep up the amazing videos👍🏼
THANK YOU! I don’t like reading instructions and this canister was a little intimidating. You made it super easy. Just changed it for the first time today and it was no biggie.
I am new to fishies and I was quite apprehensive in cleaning my 2 fluval 407 after setting them up 4 months back. I have to admit, after I watched your tutorial it was an absolute breeze, thank you sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much for your amazing videos
Loved my Eheim for years. Release for the top block with the lines failed, so I bought a Fluval. Very nice and intuitive breakdown just like the Eheim. So far my 407 is great.
You're the man! You've helped me with a number of your videos and this was exactly what I needed to know. You basically set it up and cleaned it for me! ;) Thank you!!!!
One thing worth mentioning is that if your water level is not right for the tank, the filter will not run correctly. I had an inch to low on the water and the filter wouldn't prime properly. This is good to know for cleaning and resetting the filter too. If you siphon too much water and don't replace enough you'll run into that issue. Great video!
Excellent explanation but the first step in shutting off the water and disconnecting the tubes from the canister is paramount. All the other videos skipped this part causing many people to incorrectly disconnect the tubes causing a watery mess on the floor. My only constructive criticism is to use standing fresh treated water instead of the dirty debris filled water in your bucket. Thanks again for a well explained video and I am happy to subscribe.
I tend to use the tank water as tap water stand or not, it has chemical which the fish do not like. Also we not meant to clean the water too much hence we only suck up 40%.
@chris patton I am late to this conversation but he specified using fresh treated water, which would be dechlorinated if it's treated, hence removing the change that it would kill beneficial bacteria
very well explained on this filter. i will soon be setting up an aquarium, going natural w/live plants etc. have had fluval filters in past. they are great. going w/this one for a 29 gallon long tank. wish me luck:)
I know this is a few years old but this is so helpful. I kept tryna clean it as usual and for some darn reason when I put it back together it would just spit a bunch of junk back into the aquarium. Turns out a part of it was clogged and I wasn't accessing it properly. Very frustrating process, just did a 50% water change for the discus and now I have to do another 50% water change bc the filter (after I had already taken it apart and rinsed it out) decided it need to spew out a bunch of clogged crap into the aquarium. Putrid, but this video makes me feel better bc I clearly didn't know what the hell I was doing 🤣😆
Use this video every time I clean my filter because somehow I always forget step 1....unplugging the filter (water goes everywhere out of the tubs in case you were wondering)
Thank you and it is very clear to understand. Do you have a video how to fit it and run it back as it is not easy to start the water flowing. Hope to see your super tips.
Hello! Thank you! I am new to having fish and this video was very helpful. How often would you recommend cleaning the filter? What are the signs it needs to be cleaned? I have a 55 gal tank, with 1 dinosaur bichir and 5 goldfish, if that helps :) Thanks in advance :)
I've just installed mine yesterday after watching your videos which are brilliant! It's currently running along side my old filter. Do you recommend to clean out like this once a month?
few comments dude, empty filter water down sink, then use clean water from tank to clean sponges all your doing is adding more poop to your sponges other wise, flow bottom up so replace fine white sponge after black sponge in bottom or use fine filter floss, then put more fine floss in 2nd at the bottom then fill with your bio media all the way to the top that leaves your 3rd tray for more extra bio like siporax [great stuff] then also for any chemo that you may need, you'll have a more efficient filter, personallly i have eheim'''s lol great vid otherwise thumbs up.
I did not understand why he didn't clean and replace the fine white filter pad, it's better than that floss... (just needed cleaned) I was also thinking how much room there was for more media. But I think I'll go back to the classic Eheim myself, Simple and efficient.
You've helped me set up my canister filter and now clean it. You never touched on what happens when you plug it back in and lower the stop. Do you have to prime it again?
Really good video, thank you. I have lots of small flakes in my tank, looks like fish food flakes, but it isnt. like its snowing a bit, have you got any tips? Tank only been set up a month. fish feeding is once every other day
Thank you soo much for this. I’ve just done my first water change with this new filter. However, I think I’ve done something wrong somewhere because I don’t see any flow coming from the grey tube???
Great video have just set up the new Fluval 307 this will help me brilliantly to do its first clean ,when you connect it back together do you just press down the red locking lever then press down the grey fully to refill ,how often would you recommend cleaning the filter and does this reduce the amount of water changes you gave to do thanks if anyone can reply
Just a quick question, when you put the cannister back together did you use all the same water in the bucket or did you use half that and half tap water...just not explained at all. Could someone clarify for me please as I looking at buying one of these cannisters
Is there a reason you don't have support pieces in that DIY tank stand? You got the pieces that set the height, the only thing holding it up is the screws. Great video by the way! Debating on which canister for a 60Breeder, thinking about a 407
I just had that same problem! I hadn’t cleaned my filter in a long time and it was packed pretty full of crap and tough to get that piece to come apart- took me a good 5-10 minutes of working it back and forth before it finally came apart. I definitely won’t be leaving my filter that long again!
I know this is an old video, but what do you do with the carbon bag if you do want to use it again? Just rinse it like everything else or does it need to be replaced?
quick question as I am doing this on my filter this weekend. What did you do with the dirty water you placed in the bucket the water you used to clean the various elements with. My assumption is this was DUMPED away and you did the pump priming to load the cannister with water from the aquarium tank. Is that correct?
I just cleaned my fuval for the first time since i got it and scrubbed everything down, like the tube's and stuff bc they were really gunky and gross. Once I turned the canister back on, the output spat out a ton of white debris?? And the canister is making a "swallowing" noise but I'm guessing it's just filling up with water since I only turned it back on like a minute ago?? Ahh is that normal tho, my first filter and I'm a little nervous
Hey I have a quick question I have the same filter and I found your video very helpful but what does the carbon do I'm so confused ? Sorry just stared getting in to the hobby and could use a lil help
I really hope this video helps you to maintain your filter!

Will do and thank you again!

Very helpful. You are a great presenter. Very clear & straightforward. No long winded filler waffle.
THANK YOU! I don’t like reading instructions and this canister was a little intimidating. You made it super easy. Just changed it for the first time today and it was no biggie.

You're the man! You've helped me with a number of your videos and this was exactly what I needed to know. You basically set it up and cleaned it for me! ;) Thank you!!!!
Thanks for the video! Very helpful for my first time cleaning!
Emptying the canister before taking off the head unit is a great tip to prevent spillage . Didn't know you could do that Many thanks!

Using old water minimizes the chance of killing beneficial bacteria... he even says it in the video
Thank you so much, you don’t know how much you helped my mom🙏🏾
Saved this and will use when I need to clean my aquarium in the months ahead!

Clear instruction thank you.... Got myself a 307....
You seriously helped me so much. My filter was soooo clogged. It had started to become sludge. Thank you Soo much
The ball cleaning solved my flow issue! I had no idea.
I know this is a few years old but this is so helpful. I kept tryna clean it as usual and for some darn reason when I put it back together it would just spit a bunch of junk back into the aquarium. Thanks! Just got it cleaned and it's pumping right along!
Use this video every time I clean my filter because somehow I always forget step 1....unplugging the filter (water goes everywhere out of the tubs in case you were wondering)
Literally came to this video directly after spilling probably a gallon of water out of the tubes onto the wood floor 😭😭
Great breakdown and very informative that k you very much
Thank you and it is very clear to understand. Do you have a video how to fit it and run it back as it is not easy to start the water flowing. Hope to see your super tips.
Thanks for this. It was much better than fluvals video...much appreciated.
Extremely helpful, thank you very much
Very helpful video
Only UA-camr who pointed out the ball inside the tube fitting👍
Never cleaned one before but this video made it simple as possible really appreciate you❤
Thank you. Just did our first ever clean
Thank you !
Thanks bro, for making the maintenance video.
Lots if space for more media my friend.)
Yeah there is. It's s running a small aquaponics media bed so doesn't really need to work very hard.
WOULD RECOMMEND I USED THIS WITH MY FLUVAL 107 YESTERDAY TODAY THE TANK IS CRISTAL CLEAR!
Really handy to see this. Thanks
Extremely helpful video. Thanks for sharing!
Brilliant video! Really helped me thank you!! 👍🏻
Great video, my one question is do you put fresh water in the body of the filter after you have cleaned everything?
Thanks for the help!
Awesome walkthrough thanks!
Thanks for the video man. Glad I didn’t have to read the manual haha
Good video! Instead of where you put the filter floss, I put Seachem Purigen.
Very good explanation 😊
I'm looking forward to buy one.
So helpful, thank you!
Hello! Thank you! I am new to having fish and this video was very helpful. How often would you recommend cleaning the filter? What are the signs it needs to be cleaned?
I have a 55 gal tank, with 1 dinosaur bichir and 5 goldfish, if that helps :)
Thanks in advance :)
This was SO helpful
How often do you clean the filter
White floss on top of black sponge in bottom tray and then top 2 trays fill to the top with media.
Do you need to clean the long tubing which connects to the canister?
For once a video that straight to the point thank you
No problem
Is there a video on how to reconnect and prime it? Mine is making a lot of.aoind as of air is trapped in it
Yes there is in my channel
Thank you for this!!!!❤
I've just installed mine yesterday after watching your videos which are brilliant! It's currently running along side my old filter.
Do you recommend to clean out like this once a month?
thanks! great video as we have a 407 to clean, first timers.
THIS HELP ME OUT TO UNDERSTAND A LOT THANKS
I have a question. Before putting the filter back in service, did you dump the dirty water and add fresh water?
few comments dude, empty filter water down sink, then use clean water from tank to clean sponges all your doing is adding more poop to your sponges other wise, flow bottom up so replace fine white sponge after black sponge in bottom or use fine filter floss, then put more fine floss in 2nd at the bottom then fill with your bio media all the way to the top that leaves your 3rd tray for more extra bio like siporax [great stuff] then also for any chemo that you may need, you'll have a more efficient filter, personallly i have eheim'''s lol great vid otherwise thumbs up.

I was also thinking how much room there was for more media.
But I think I'll go back to the classic Eheim myself, Simple and efficient.
You've helped me set up my canister filter and now clean it. You never touched on what happens when you plug it back in and lower the stop. Do you have to prime it again?
I have a video on that "priming and starting 07 filter"
Really good video, thank you. I have lots of small flakes in my tank, looks like fish food flakes, but it isnt. like its snowing a bit, have you got any tips? Tank only been set up a month. fish feeding is once every other day
Amazeballs!! Thank you!!
Thank you soo much for this. I’ve just done my first water change with this new filter. However, I think I’ve done something wrong somewhere because I don’t see any flow coming from the grey tube???
Very clear video, thank you - helped a lot. The manual was too wordy.
You're welcome!
I'm just setting my new 207 up n I need to know where the green filter part goes please? The phosphate filter...
How often would you recommend doing this maintenance for the 307 series?
Tim Wilson if you still have the intructions booklet, on one of the first pages it says when you need to do what with the different components
Do you pour that dirty water back into the canister or use other water from your tank? Sorry I’m new to this!!
What did you do with the water in the bucket do we just get rid of it
red eared slider turtles any particular set up for them with a Fluval 307? Thanks
How often does this need to be done?
Every month or so
Just a quick question, when you put the cannister back together did you use all the same water in the bucket or did you use half that and half tap water...just not explained at all. Could someone clarify for me please as I looking at buying one of these cannisters
That was magic

How did you get the top of the intake strainer off to get to where the little white ball is?
Pulling it
I just had that same problem!
Thank you I am not a practical person but managed to set up my system FluvalSmart 307
How often do you clean the filter ?
How often should I be doing this?
Do you fill pump with water?
quick question as I am doing this on my filter this weekend. What did you do with the dirty water you placed in the bucket the water you used to clean the various elements with. My assumption is this was DUMPED away and you did the pump priming to load the cannister with water from the aquarium tank. Is that correct?
Dump the dirty water. The filter is primed empty
I liked the video but now my canister will not use electricity and not run what should i do
I just cleaned my fuval for the first time since i got it and scrubbed everything down, like the tube's and stuff bc they were really gunky and gross. Hey I have a quick question I have the same filter and I found your video very helpful but what does the carbon do I'm so confused ? Sorry just stared getting in to the hobby and could use a lil help
Fantastic video thanks 😊 👍 I am looking at getting the 207 for my 125ltr tank do you think its better than than 107 for a 125ltr tank?
