Thank you:)
What species of moss do you use? for the emersed part?
There are several: thread sphagnum moss, Christmas, Taiwan and Spiky mosses, also Tropica Leptodictyum riparium
@@tropicalfishhub thanks, that's very useful to know! Any idea which one is doing the best, if I just wanted to cover a large area on top of damp sphagnum or hygrolon?
Hey friend- great to catch up with you and this tank. Funny, I just posted a video of my tank with the most emerged growth but it's Rotalla that is going nuts out of water (as opposed to your Japanese Clover). Anyway, I hope you are having a lovely summer :)
Hi, thank you for watching! Your top shelf tank with its emersed Rotala was an initial inspiration for me to add long stem plants here expecting they will break the water surface, but at the time my local fish store had no Rotala, only Bacopa caroliniana, so I went for it!
@@tropicalfishhub I actually started all this rotala with only emerged stems and just wedged them into moss covered wood. They did the rest. I could try sending you a bunch of “dry” stems though I know it is a long way for them to travel.
@@LushSaltyAquariums Oh, thanks for the offer, but the UK customs won't allow in or out of country any live plants in private mail! Rotala isn't a rare plant here, but my local fish store sometimes runs out of it, so hopefully I'll get it next time:)
❣Beautiful!
Thank you! 😊
Outstanding as always. Does the hydrocotle and pennywort need very humid conditions to grow emersed like that?
Thanks Gil! Both of these plants seem to do well in normal 'living room' conditions. I spray them once per day, but once they get used to emersed growth they don't seem to need any extra moisture
Beautiful tank. The hydrocotyle tripartita took over the back of my paludarium too.
Thank you! H.tripartita is indeed a fast grower once it gets established
I know how much work and talent it takes , watching now , had to go make a cup of tea 😊
Thank you! hope you enjoyed it:)
Absolutely stunning 😍
Thank you:)
🔥🔥🔥
I don't want to spoil your next video, but is the moss drip wall still holding up? I am planning on making a smaller tank in a similar style to yours and I thought I should double check that it has held together before I try and make mine.
haha, yes it is thriving! I'll make an update about it in a few days:)
Do you still keep these
No
Dear, if i change 50% water every 2 day, do i still need beneficial bacteria
You still have aerobic bacteria living on surfaces, but perhaps not in sufficient amounts. Whether you need more depends on what kind of fish you keep
I think this will look fantastic after a month. The water running down the driftwood is great.
Thanks Gil! It is indeed all about waiting and giving the scape more time:)
It was probably organ faliure😢 so sorry for your lost
Your aquarium are always so natural 👏
Thank you very much:)
Interesting that you have some Cabomba as it was banned in England (Scotland?) some years ago. Some sort of nonsensical reason imposed by Europe. I don’t know if this regulation has been overturned since the UK left the EU?
always a friend with some plants wherever you are if you have an internet connection 😅👀
Great video. Glad your back with videos. Tank will be amazing once it settles in i think. Thanks for sharing
Thank you:) yes, I cannot wait until the tank settles and the moss establishes itself
What do you think are the best catfish/loach species for a backwater aquarium? I made a 10 gallon Blackwater riparian based on your aquariums and I was thinking of maybe either some Otocinclus, Corydoras or Kuhli Loaches.
I'm glad my videos inspired your setup! Most corydoras will do well in blackwater, but only some are typical blackwater species such as C.concolor and c.duplicareus/adolfoi. Otos will be a great addition. Kuhli loach will also thrive in blackwater
If you had to choose, would you go with a small group of Rio Nanay Angelfish or Manacapuru Redback Angelfish?
It depends, manacapuru angels are larger and sometimes more aggressive, so it depends on your setup and preferences
any advice as to how I can help an altum angel who developed pop-eye and can't swim straight any longer? thanks!
Its hard to suggest anything. In my experience, angel fish rarely get cured of these things and in most cases pass away
@@tropicalfishhub thanks. appreciate your response.
Awesome
Thank you!!!!! Simple, straight-forward help. For a non-mechanical gal, your help was perfect!
Bamboo is going to start rotting within a year.
Still going strong 2 years later and after 3 different tanks. It is no different from bogwood
This is interesting. How is this tank doing as of today? (July 7 2024) thank you.
Thank you. We moved houses exactly one year ago, so this tank had to be emptied. There is a video about it somewhere on my channel
Altums are geneticly closer to manacapuru angelfish. There is a masters thesis about that
perfect info ,thanks
The bamboo sticks are bambustic
I have the same lily :) This is beautiful! I’d trim the clover so it doesn’t spread as much on the moss wall. It’s definitely lovely though.
This is very beautiful! I’m inspired to create something like this. Right now I have a couple of house plants (mini monstera and pothos) in the back of my nano aquarium.
Great piece 🍂
I can keep them in there forever or do you have to swap them out?ty
There is no need to swap them, they will decompose
Awesome video! I definitely subbed. This is how to have a healthy natural looking aquarium! NOTE! not for people who want a sanity looking aquarium. If alge bothers you, stop now😂😂😂
Had to give you a like just for that giant frog bit 😮
This is exactly the type of build I’m looking to do for wild bettas 💕
Thank you for sharing your wisdom.
Thank you for such a concise and helpful vid.
For 40 years I have only used sponge. I have never had nitrite issues. I was just given biological media for free so I thought I would throw a bag in my filters just to give it a try, That is what brought me here.
im watching this video 2nd or third time never gets old , nice video my ones did net get the color yet , still yellowish color 😁 . they are like 6 montha old i think i bought them in february . when i got them they are like 1.5 cm length . 5 inch height , never fed colour feedings until now . i fed ultra fresh exellent bits and dr Basler chlorella . now im going to mix vibra bites of hikari also . only gave that food two days . 🔴will they get the red color when they grow . they are in a bitope aquarium with geos an corydoras . n 🔴 giving a color feed disturb breeding ? our breeders don t give color enancing foods thats a pain 😥
Thank you:) I'm happy that you liked the video. Some Manacapuru strains might take more time to colour up. If your fish are not from wild parents or f2/f3/f4, they may never get truly red because red colour begins disappearing with over breeding. I think you don't need to feed them colour foods, just wait another month or so and they may colour up
My pennywort doesn't bear an extra leaf. How do you make it flourish!?
May be there isn't enough nutrients in water column? You can try to fertilize
Would it be possible to put all bio media in net bags first and then put net bags in the classic 600 canister? Will the net bags affect the function of the canister? Thank you
Yes, I've done it before many times
Well to be honest, you really owned the black water tank part with the peet. I guess you did not need much rooibos tea. Anyway it was a good experiment with the the house plants.
Is fiddle leaf ok? Fell of naturally and dried up brown.
Should be Ok, but it might break down fast in water
My biggest unanswered question is where to get them without a starter ?
I bought my starter culture on ebay. No clue if they occur naturally
This is the reason i think the "bacteria in the bottle" is a SCAMMY SCAM. What are they eating in that bottle all the way to your hands? DOA it seems, i.e. SCAM.
Great informative content..I was wondering where i could order both Xingu Below Water and Amazon Below Water since they're not available to order on Amazon in the US
Thank you:) I think you can buy these books in US from Oliver Lucanus's website
@@tropicalfishhub Thank you very much I'll look into it

Today you save me… if I didn’t come cross to this video I guess I would ruin my filter
repl;acing leavres as they are consumed by microfauna builds a powerful food web.
Very informative video. Thank you. I don't culture grindal worms, as I am currently using white worms. What I have found is that if I feed some nutritional yeast to my cultures every few days, I get a surge in worm numbers greater than when feeding porridge or bread on their own. Perhaps this supplement could enhance your worm production as it has done mine?
Thanks for the tip! I have added some yeast to a few of my cultures yesterday. I'll keep an eye on them, hoping that they respond to it in the same manner as white worms
