Only if this wasn't Egyptian Pharoah then this sequence could have been much purer as the pharaohs used to marry their own daughter,so well you know the hug could mean another reasons.....
Rachel Weisz and Patricia Velásquez not only looked fantastic but they delivered unbelievable performances in these movies and this fight scene was definitely their best one.
As a teenager I thought this was a cool and sexy fight, now it seems completely impractical, like most of these movies, lol. How is that bikini armor going to protect them if one of those weapons actually connected? It's like in 300 where the men fight in basically their underwear, or Justice League where we see more bikini armor.
@@sealstorm1935Or maybe… it’s too bad that Anck su Namun didn’t have the courage to honestly communicate her objections to marry the Pharoah. Who knows? Maybe the Pharoah would have been merciful enough to release her from the engagement, thereby freeing her to be with Imhotep instead. Unfortunately, much conflict happens throughout in both history and fiction just because people don’t communicate with each other. Poor communication literally kills.
When I was a little girl I was obsessed with this scene! For some reason I’ve always had a huge obsession with ancient Egypt ever since I was 9 years old . 3:15 is so well shot. The freeze in time for that look then the speed up as if they're literally paying for that stolen moment in time. The expressions of all three characters tells you more than script could.
That moment throws the whole 2nd movie's notion of the "'greater love' between protagonists vs antagonists" out the window. Literally, the look that she gave him was filled with love. She was a poker face until she looked at him, she lit up, showed endearment. And, the cinematography showed how the time moved slower in her head when he walked by her. Then, all the sudden, time started moving normally, and that normal time unsettled her. What a wonderful acting to show complexity of Ank-Su-Namon. It's like whoever shot the film didn't agree with the writers, there is too much inconsistency to plainly say: She didn't love him.
Love the fact that Weisz and Velasquez did so many of the stunts in this fight. They only used stunt doubles for the acrobatics and a few of the more complicated weapon movements but like 85% of the fight was with the actual actresses. #respect :)
This scene is pure magic. The fighting choreography is top notch, the looks are stunning, the decor looks authentic, the spoken ancient Egyptian sounds very convincing. But my favorite thing is the music. After the fight ends and people are starting to empty the chambers, the look that Imhotep and Anck-su-Namun share is accompanied by this beautiful, mysterious melody that gets stuck in your head. 12/10 scene. Bravo! Bravo!
truly respect to those designer and arts who put 100% effort on every details to make this movie authentic to egyptian style.... even the pharaoh look very real which is rare to holywood movide
Except those daggers the women were using aren't Egyptian at all. They are Japanese weapons which would of been impossible to be in Egypt in ancient times.
Sad when you realise that anck-su-namun's reason for taking her own life was not because she had been separated from her lover and wanted to die with him but because she didn't want to go through the torture that awaited her for her adultery and murder so she chose the seemingly less painful death unlike imhotep who refused to leave her side and chose to suffer the consequences instead of running away. She never really loved him but only lusted after him while imhotep fought against death to bring his love back
I realized just now one amazing style choice, when Nefertiti and Anck-Su-Namun proceed in the second part of the fight without masks: in the movie there's a believable reason, which is the obvious and annoying provocation by Anck-Su-Namun, something like "hey, I just won, sure to take a second round?" But for us, viewers, is so that we can see the actresses faces, to fully appreciate their ability and devotion for playing that difficult part, instead of easily relying on stunts and doubles. Amazing, can't spend enough words to admire this finesse and passion, from the creatos to the actors. Cheers 👏🏻👏🏻
A kid wouldn't understand those sort of dynamics, but adults understand that Imhotep learned to late that he gave up everything for someone who didn't love him. Not to mention, so many innocent people died because of the both of them.
Imhotep let himself fall because he realized that he was guilty , he betrayed and killed the Pharaoh who was nothing but nice and friendly with him , as he saw how Evelyn was willing to risk her life to save Rick when Anck Su Namun chosed to run and leave him behind , he knew that it was nothing but w worthless lust not love .
@@Ines_Ella In the end Imhotep realized that Anck Su Namun never really loved him and the look he gave to Evie and Rick was like, " Your love is more truthful than mine u deserve each other as for me I will throw myself in hell."

One of the best fight scenes in film history. Too bad the rest of the movie isn't as good as the first one. It always bugged me that they forgot to redo the part where Pharoah sees her body paint is smudged on her arm, revealing that another man touched her. It's the entire reason why she tries to hide her arm behind the cat statue.
It's not very often a sequel outdoes the original but the deeper context of the antagonists backstory in the 2nd installation of the mummy made it far more interesting to me than the first.
.....reminds me of how my drama class would do fight scenes - with dramatic flair and obviously out of the way twirls and moves. I tried being over dramatic and I just got tired after doing the same thing for four shows. I finally had enough and tried to end the duel - I was Macbeth and I was fighting MacDuff. Originally there was supposed to be epic combat music (imagine Two Steps from Hell version of Lion King scene Simba vs Scar), our swords and shields were wood but we had metal sound effects, we were wearing armor. The duel was supposed to last roughly 3-5 minutes with near misses and wounds. My friend who played Macduff already knew I was going to try to end it early but he wanted to fight it all out....so in the end we had an all out duel that was not planned - armor and a little of real blood flying, shields being battered. We were actually beating the shit out of each other and everyone thought it was just theatrics. The duel ended when I threw Macduff down and tried to bash in his skull....my sword broke and he impaled me with the sword.....he actually kind've stabbed me, meant to get my side but....yeah....He then finished me off with a baseball slash to the head - that we managed to do with actually hitting me and I the great Macbeth died...thank god it was the last show cause I wouldn't have been able to reproduce that.
Egyptian-inspired assets usually look cheap, but here they look expensive (as they should considering what they're made of). I also love how great the actors are at saying their lines in reconstructed Ancient Egyptian. It sounds convincing.
@@marioss2167 Probably means that no one alive today speaks the dialect that existed in Ancient Egypt. Language evolves over time, naturally, so the modern language is not the same. I imagine, using relics and scriptures, they could infer what the language sounded like at the time (at least to a certain extent).
@@marioss2167 // Keeping in mind that Ancient Egyptian is a dead language, linguistics have to reconstruct (build anew) its phonology (basically its sounds) by observing related languages, e.g. Coptic which actually descends from Ancient Egyptian. So, when it's reconstructed, you have to take it with a grain of salt because there is no sure-fire way of knowing how it was pronounced.
In fact, there is a village in luxor now (typah previously) speaks هيروغليفية the ancient Egyptian language. Not only that but also students in Faculty of archeology are studying it. Have not you seen the mummys' transfer parade couple of month ago they had a concert of masses singing ancient Egyptian songs and playing their music. Also there is a tendency to incorporate the ancient Egyptian language in schools that will be implemented in the near future. Not to mentione that there are loads of ancient Egyptian words still be spoken today by us and most of the Egyptian people don't know that the origin is actually hieroglyphic I know that because i am an Egyptian
Apparently this was one of the last scenes shot in the film. By then Rachel Weisz and Patricia Velasquez had been practising this fight for six months. I think it shows clearly here and that their body doubles were really there for just the gymnastics, back flips and cartwheels.
@Not Alfie Egyptians are a mix of black, white, olive-skinned, etc. people because of where they are located. Case in point, Cleopatra's ancestry/family was most likely more Asian (Persia, Macedonia, middle east - FYI I say Asian because we're comparing continents) than African (a continent). Egypt has peoples from middle east, Europe, and of course the continent of Africa to pull people from. Just because they are Egyptian doesn't make them black. Look at the features of Egyptians, very mixed people. They probably care less about skin color because of how mixed they are. If unconvinced, here's DNA for you: www.gnxp.com/WordPress/2017/05/30/ancient-egyptians-black-or-white/ The article states that the sub-saharan African % is lower in Ancient Egyptians and more % are Easterners. Gotta give it to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Michelle Yoh versus Zhiyi Zang (I'm probably spelling both of their names wrong, sorry) - the dojo fight for the sword Green Destiny. Michelle goes through every weapon in the place; swords, spears, wacky pointy/stabby things and she even tries to wield a hammer that's too heavy for her to pick up (Zhiyi waits patiently). I'll deffo give this one a runner up award, but as far as girl on girl swordfight action is concerned (stop it, ya perverts!), Crouching Tiger wins.
@Lee Debo NOTHING will beat the mystery, magic and sensuality of Egypt! Your Crouching Tiger thing has Nothing on this movie! I don't see the difference in those flying style kungfu Chinese movies. ALL of them looked the same!
That's because she's her mentor and teacher, and didn't put her feelings in it. Nefertiri can't stand her, and she let her emotions get in the way. While she was actually right, in battle that doesn't belong there
According the dialogue, you can notice that Ank-su-namun had more time doing this while Nefertiri is a new student. That's why she said "you learn fast".
No Mummy movie in future can't beat this classic.. Brendan, Rachel, Arnold, Patricia, John, Oded, Dwayne n Scarab bugs just nailed it.. btw Alan music too..
For those talking about accuracy, I was once listening to a radio show where an egyptologist was talking about an incoming travelling exhibition of egypcian art and the conversation got to the topic of ancient Egypt in films and the expert was asked about The Mummy franchise. Well, she said that for example the background for this scene was a pleasant surprise because it depicts quite well how the Pharaoh's court may have looked, and that probably it was as a result of a good historical counselling. I already loved the two first movies, but after that I also appreciated them as more than just entertaining stuff.
In this short scene, they managed to introduce Nefertiti as a character you can care for. I certainly loved her perspective. She is a young woman here. A princess who has a lot to learn and bears the weight of one day becoming a worthy queen. She wants to make her father proud. Then her father chooses a woman, almost in her age as his next wife. She despises this woman. But despite being the princess, she can't do anything about her. Her father is the pharaoh and he chose her, and his word is a god's word. Nefertiti's feelings don't get better, when this woman defeats her every single time they duel, no matter how hard she trains. This also means if the pharaoh dies and Anck-Su-Namun gives him a son, Nefertiti’s future is also taken from her and her life will be in the hands of this woman she hates. She sees how this woman is developing a secret relationship with the high priest, behind her father's back. But she can't do anything about it either, because she can't prove it. After all of this and witnessing her father killed by the woman she despised, i couldn't stop to think, how Nefertiti's story continued. I know she most likely inherited her father's throne, but what did she do or think or feel is something what interested me. Shame there was nothing more about her.
Obviously you can see than she fell of that balcony. That's why Evie almost fell of that plane, but her husband saved her. Nefertiri died also, and reincarnated in Evie's body later... that's why Anck su namun called her "Nefertiri" when they fought.
If you want the historical answer here it is : Nefertiri married Ramesess II and became Queen of Egypt, her husband is considered the strongest Pharaoh in history . So I guess it was well after she lost her father.
Why would she need a stunt double? They were so far apart they could barely touch blades never mind strike one another. And what's with the stupid spinning shit with the axe and bashing with the handle of the spear? Whoever choreographed this was concerned with safety way more than realism.
@@angiegalara Yes, the thighs on the woman doing the flips are bigger than Rachel's ones.... if you slow the playback speed you can see this AND where the faces are hidden - facial close-ups inserted later to make it all look real.... it's well done though !

This is my favorite scene. Just love the tension between the women and the conflict. Why did they edit out the part where the pharoah looked at her smudged arm and said something like, 'someone has touched you', right before he got killed? I remember it vividly.
I think they cut that scene on this movie because it has double meaning if you notice it was seamlesly done using the clips from the first movie into the second movie. There is a huge diff on patricia's face she got thinner on the second part.
Everything else aside, can we please appreciate what a committed sweetheart Imhotep was to his love? Like please...even after suffering the worst punishment of his time and dying multiple times, his only goal was to reunite with Anck Su Namun. To resurrect her, his one true love. After all this time and 2 movies in, he still loves her. Where are such guys today? Most are commitment phobic twits or backstabbing assholes. Imhotep was a pure softie.
@@coldcranberry I wouldn't call Imhotep a nice guy, but the dude's biggest motive was his love for Anck-Su-Namun. Women often look better with age - they just loose the young girl looks !
Gotta say, not smart to have your kissing affair in front of a LARGE window with a LARGE balcony where anyone and everyone can see you. Especially the Pharoah’s daughter whose room seems to be directly facing it. Like, those two LIVE at the palace, how did they forget this detail? They didn’t even close the curtains! A somewhat sad thing I notice is that Anuk Su Namun didn’t really hate Nefertiri, which is not reciprocated. There’s a little competitive smack talk, but Anuk is happy enough to compliment her, smile at her, and even offer her hand to help her up. But Nefertiri just wants nothing to do with her, and this is BEFORE suspecting the affair. It’s not even that she’s sore that she lost, Neferteri implied that she expects her to stab her in the back. Maybe Anuk didn’t like the emperor, but she liked the daughter enough. What gives?
Yes, does seem odd. Still, since Anuck-su-Namun has to walk around wearing just body paint since her marriage to Seti, doing everything in public had become second nature? This is where the film could have done with some more back story and also the relationship between Anuck-su-Namum and Neferteri. Anuck had been her martial arts trainer which is where, no doubt, she had caught the eye of the pharaoh. Perhaps Neferteri's mother had been demoted in Anuck's favour.
I always felt sorry for Anuk. We don't know if she was calculating and lusting for power or just played the cards she was dealt. I don't imagine someone in her position could have much choice. She may have been a coward at the end when reincarnated, but then how young was she when it was _assumed_ by Imotep that she would be his *eternal* love? Obviously we deduce Neyfetiri was suspicious of her, but it could've been nothing more than jealousy. In this period, pharoahs married brothers, sisters, fathers. How do we know Neyfetiri didn't lust for power?

nah, because Anck Su Namun says "you're learning fast" we can get an idea that she is older than Nefertiti or could be a more experienced fighter or even Nefertiti's mentor.

She never really loved him but only lusted after him while imhotep fought against death to bring his love back
Lovely explanation
This makes the ending so much better
Wrong
That's so obvious
Since they believed so much in the after life that death is just the beginning for them.
I realized just now one amazing style choice, when Nefertiti and Anck-Su-Namun proceed in the second part of the fight without masks: in the movie there's a believable reason, which is the obvious and annoying provocation by Anck-Su-Namun, something like "hey, I just won, sure to take a second round?"
But for us, viewers, is so that we can see the actresses faces, to fully appreciate their ability and devotion for playing that difficult part, instead of easily relying on stunts and doubles.
Amazing, can't spend enough words to admire this finesse and passion, from the creatos to the actors.

Honestly as a kid I really enjoyed the love story of the the antagonists, and felt really sad when Imhotep gives up and let's himself fall.
A kid wouldn't understand those sort of dynamics, but adults understand that Imhotep learned to late that he gave up everything for someone who didn't love him. Not to mention, so many innocent people died because of the both of them.

.....reminds me of how my drama class would do fight scenes - with dramatic flair and obviously out of the way twirls and moves.

What does reconstructed ancient Egyptian mean? Especially the reconstructed part.
Not to mentione that there are loads of ancient Egyptian words still be spoken today by us and most of the Egyptian people don't know that the origin is actually hieroglyphic

Apparently this was one of the last scenes shot in the film. By then Rachel Weisz and Patricia Velasquez had been practising this fight for six months. I think it shows clearly here and that their body doubles were really there for just the gymnastics, back flips and cartwheels.
Not Alfie I didn’t know they had to be non white to be able to play the part! The more you know....
Just so you don't feel that I'm being racist or putting down blacks, there ARE many black civilizations within Africa such as the Kingdom of Aksum, Nubian Kingdom of Kush, etc. Egypt is a mix race Kingdom. I'm just suggesting to please use Science and Research as our guide instead of beliefs and assumptions.

RIGHTTTTTT??? I wanted to know what the aftermath was like for her.
Obviously you can see than she fell of that balcony. That's why Evie almost fell of that plane, but her husband saved her. Nefertiri died also, and reincarnated in Evie's body later... that's why Anck su namun called her "Nefertiri" when they fought.
If you want the historical answer here it is :
Nefertiri married Ramesess II and became Queen of Egypt, her husband is considered the strongest Pharaoh in history . So I guess it was well after she lost her father.

I ADORE these movies. They really are extremely well done. The music, the sets, the cast, the language. Soooo soo good. I can watch this all day
After rewatching the Mummy movies I actually thought Imhotep wasn’t all that bad. He just loved the wrong woman 😭😭
Not really, it takes two to cheat. He had an equal part in the cheating.
Haven’t we all….
Was his boss wife!!! He shouldn’t look that woman
I am going to think he has found his match in the underworld. The antagonist in Tom Cruise movie, Ahmanet.

I love this movie especially this scene where Nefertiti and Anck Su Namun fought... Patricia and Rachael did an awesome job doing this... "My body is no longer in this temple!" Egyptian saying that she's no longer in that temple and the way she ended her life but then Imhotep revives her by using the black book of the dead and read a sentence that brings you back to life!! ♥️♥️♥️♥️
Its "his tample" not "in this tample" thats mean she's no longer his property
@@mrmanusia got it thanks for that
1:18 she mention youtube, damnn she saw the future.
😂😂
LOL!
lolzzzz😂😂😂
Actually she saw her past as
princess of Egypt and guardian
of the bracelet of Anubis himself
Hahahahaha!!!
The way he hugged his daughter 🥰🥰
This is a neat fight .I wish Patricia got to be cast in better roles /opportunities in movies like Rachel .
Me too
Well in arrested development Patricia was great
It’s a real time travel into the past. The scenes were very beautiful and original. This queen miracle is beautiful!
This is my favorite scene. Just love the tension between the women and the conflict. The fact that Nefertiri couldn't stand Aneck Sa Namun, because she knew that she was no good, made her fight all the harder. and learn quickly, I love the extra elements of reincarnation too. Just loved the first and second mummy. As a lover of Egyptology, I can appreciate everything and the absurd that goes with it.
Lol this scene hit way different when I first saw it as a 13 year old boy starting puberty
wow
Why did they edit out the part where the pharoah looked at her smudged arm and said something like, 'someone has touched you', right before he got killed? I remember it vividly.
My view is they had to reshoot that whole scene for the sequel and they forgot to add that line.
I think they cut that scene on this movie because it has double meaning if you notice it was seamlesly done using the clips from the first movie into the second movie. There is a huge diff on patricia's face she got thinner on the second part.
it was in the first prequel and everybody knows that scene so they just skipped
It wasn't necessary for the 2nd time as we all knew it from the previous movie.
If you saw the intro of the first movie, the Pharaoh asked "Who touched you?!"
I love this scene both actress are pretty and got nice figures. They're fight scene is fantastic.
The reason this movie is so memorable
@@dootdoot94xo44 agreed its a good movie, but the first is better
Rachel and Patricia were equal sexy pretty
That's pretty much the movie
Everything else aside, can we please appreciate what a committed sweetheart Imhotep was to his love? Like please...even after suffering the worst punishment of his time and dying multiple times, his only goal was to reunite with Anck Su Namun. To resurrect her, his one true love. After all this time and 2 movies in, he still loves her.
Where are such guys today? Most are commitment phobic twits or backstabbing assholes. Imhotep was a pure softie.
Hes definitely just using her lol
She was ungrateful and left him to die. I guess all the nice guys learned a valuable lesson from this movie. LOL
@@coldcranberry I wouldn't call Imhotep a nice guy, but the dude's biggest motive was his love for Anck-Su-Namun. Even his lust for power, which one might argue came along with the curse, was no match for that. Personally, I think he should have kept Meela. She seemed a stronger sort. She made out with him in his 3,000 year old magical corpse form and even willingly gave up her life so her previous incarnation could have a second chance.
@@asherikamichaela8425 I never said he was a nice guy, he's actually kind of a bad person. I was saying that "nice guys" might not want to go through so much for a woman who will end up betraying them. I was just trying to make a point but it wasn't even that serious. Maybe I should have worded it better though. LOL
@@coldcranberry All good. 🙂 Though, to be fair, he didn't know she would end up betraying him. Out of weakness and fear as opposed to not loving him, but still. 🤷♀️ One's capacity for love doesn't correlate with their capacity for good or evil. What can I say? I wrote a bit of poetry about this scene years and years ago, so I kinda studied it far more in depth than I'm sure was intended. 😆😅
This movie was made in 2001 and it still incredible to watch because Nefertiti is the best and also shee survives at the end of the movie even if she still was atttack and got hurt, she saw her father die but at least she stayed alive 🙂
Rachel Weisz and Patricia Velasquez were SO HOT in this movie!! What a babealicious fight.
danny nordes Old age is a terrible thing, but it’s only fair to the new babes
@danny nordes I meant is/was a singer..... not 'was' as in she's dead. Since reading and replying to the quote from Jere V though, I checked out more about her and she wasn't a singer so I deleted the comment about drugs and alcohol making you look older but they do and are rife in the modelling and movie worlds so...... I have seen more recent pictures of Patricia and she still looks pretty good - that film was a long time ago and Rachel isn't quite the poppet she was then either. Women often look better with age - they just loose the young girl looks !
3:15 - 3:25 best scene the way she looked at him is unbelievable
She was very stupid actually 😂 like could she be more obvious?
@@sehza-t9d 😂 yea but when you are in love with someone you don’t notice that, and don’t care how foolish and dangerous it may be.
@@ElweEe yeah for sure Ive never been in love and I think with my head not with my heart 😂
@@sehza-t9d Ah...love. It's an insanity of the mind ruled by the heart. :)
@@okaunis in my case, my mind rules my heart and I rule my mind.
What gives?
It's called being two-faced.
Only to be stabbed in the front millennia later in the 1930's.
They probably didn't care at that point. From the look of it, they were probably going to run away and start a new life, but the pharaoh intervened
This was the best woman weapons combat fight scene ever filmed in cinema history it was close very intense they both fought with anger & fury of each other which made the fight between them much More intense like if they were really fighting each other I haven't seen any other fight scene like this or close to be being this good this is intense since this movie was filmed no other fight scene between two.women had ever been done not any has ever matched or beat this fight scene with intense combat fighting action since
I love the way Egyptians dress in those times, highlighting even the smallest detail, showing even more the beauty of women, without a doubt they love the golden color.🌟
3:10 I love this moment. So subtle, yet so telling.

The way they become so lost in each other was beautiful. And the way the director and the actors captured their love was bravo indeed! Yes so little but def a lot!! The eyes don't lie at all..windows to the soul, Love that part!!

Who else wishes long names like Anck Su Namun were normal in western culture? It sounds so cool and beautiful!
Just for you, I'm gonna name my daughter Anck-su-Namun.
@@defcon7653 lol YESSS THANK YOU
It is normal, but wypipo say its ghetto
nah, because Anck Su Namun says "you're learning fast" we can get an idea that she is older than Nefertiti or could be a more experienced fighter or even Nefertiti's mentor.
People do have names like that but just get nicknames at the end of the day.
I do enjoy how this scene ties the introduction of the first film. The continuity is well done here. Paying close attention, a lot of the sound queues and vocals are close or identical to the original (mainly the bits that you see from Eve's point of view)
