@@jarlboof The Janitor’s are just agents of 50 Blessings in my understanding. They’re just the people actually phoning all the masked characters giving them their missions. I don’t think that killing them is canon, I don’t think any of Biker’s gameplay is canon because that would mean Jacket died in their fight, which he canonically didn’t because he has to be there to “kill” the remains of the Russian Mafia. This would mean that Biker is probably just dead and all the appearances seen of him when he’s got his helmet off in Hotline Miami 2 are probably not real events or at the very least not events that have taken place after the original Hotline Miami.

Truly, one of the greatest stories ever told. What a whirlwind of violence, existentialism, self doubt, plot twists that work (looking at you, M. Night Shamalamadingdong), unique characters and well written dialogue. And it's by just two swedish dudes that wanted to make a fun game with a story to tell. Great work, Squatch. This is what UA-cam is for, instead of empty headed vloggers whoring their personal lives for ad revenue.
Thank you! But like you said, the real credit goes to Dennaton. Without their masterful work, this video wouldn't have been made. They're the real MVPs.
The story of Hotline Miami is, fundamentally, a tragedy, about people giving into their baser desires - Power, fame, revenge, tribalim, and above all, bloodlust - and, as a result, remaining blind to the bigger picture, and the conspiracy that eventually brings about the destruction of everything they've ever known. It's truly phenomenal, and that's without even getting into the deeper metacommentary.
@Floofie kun Devs WERE/ARE depressed people who originally made the first one to have their own lil thing. Lots of details of the games even storyline are based on their lives.
I just want to say: Good Job dude, really. Putting the story events in order, and having already done videos on most of the characters. And seeing through to making a full video on the story of Hotline Miami. I give my high thanks to you!
The reason Jacket doesn't talk is because he isn't human. He's from a planet where his species are extremely durable and hard to kill. Or he actually died at the phone station and everything else is just a dream/coma/afterlife sequence!!! Woooo, bullshit theories!

The most fucked up bit is when you realise that, as a player, you have been enjoying the ultra-violence so much (just like Jacket) and have missed the story completely. I hope one day this story gets told via a ten-episode series, focusing on each character's arc :)
I have to be real, I only realized the story by HM 2. Like I was so engrossed on how to kill the enemies and clear the levels that we miss what’s going around the hm universe.
I'd say that the story would make a kick ass feature-length film, but knowing the Holywood, and how it just loves to turn awesome plots into rubbish, it makes me kinda sad. Because I'd watch the shit out of this movie if it was made true to the story.
Yeah, that would be cool! I think TV would be a better avenue for an adaptation though. Gives plenty of time to build up characters, relationships, and scenarios. The violence would be a little bit of a problem though. Lol.
If the production quality is the same as in Breaking Bad (which is a feature-film grade), that would be just awesome. You know what else? Get Tarantino on this. He knows how to do violence well and bloody and still be on every screen. In fact both violence and out-of-order narrative of the game hint to his work.

Nothing can kill Jacket. The nuke just sent him into a different continuity where he ended up with the Payday 2 gang. What a legend... However... it separated him into one additional continuity as of recent - Jacket is now an 183cm blob who participates in total wipeout styled game events. Perhaps this is what Richard foreshadowed all this time about death not being so bad. At least, for Jacket.
The actress who accidentally shot Martin is heavily implied to be Jacket’s ex-girlfriend. In addition to the “I’m not your girlfriend!” line and her resemblance to the girl he rescued from the “movie producer” (perhaps he thought she was her?), she’s present at the protests outside his trial standing on the supporters side (which also includes unmasked Alex and Ash) and gets a spotlight during the nuke sequence despite barely being in the game. What’s the purpose? Beats me. Purpose is not really 2’s strength...

The biggest question I have is about Richard or Jacket's mask. Who or what do you think he really is? Is it just a manifestation of Jacket and the effect that he's had on the characters, or do you believe it is something more? It seems too simple to just say that it's Jacket himself. The way he appears to others and all.. like Biker saying he met *him* in the desert. Plus the opening sequence to the Hard mode campaign, when Richard is sat around the table with all of the characters and questions them, asking why they've come back. And despite seeming omniscient, tells Pardo that he doesn't understand why it is he does the things that he does. I feel like Richard is a separate force from Jacket. Intertwined, perhaps, but somehow a different being. But when Beard realizes that he knows him, maybe it is just Jacket after all? I just can't make heads or tails of it. I'd really like to know your thoughts about this and/or if there may be a video in the works about it. And again, great work covering one of my favorite games and stories of all time!
Razerhdd you may be right. Or in the very least Richard may be Death, or the Reaper. When Beard recognizes him, it may be because during war he was so familiar with death but left it behind to live a peaceful life

I never realized these games were harboring so much intricate drama. Superbly written, without being preachy. Thanks so much for explaining a series with a story almost as trippy and convoluted as the plot to Foamy the Squirrel.
Realistically speaking, good people rarely win. It's usually bad guys or grey people who win, and then write history as if they were the good guys to perpetuate the "good guys win" myth.
Just finished it. Man, you have a huge amount of passion for this series. I also like the games and one question is bugging me to no end, should there be a third installment? The story is all but cleared up, nice closure, but god damn would I love to play me some more.
The Whole Thing? Wow! I didn't expect anyone to watch the entire thing through! Lol. Yeah, I guess you could say that. It is one of my favorite game series of all time! Tight gameplay, compelling story, interesting art style, what's not to love? Lol. I would say there shouldn't be a third installment. Like you said, the story for each character is wrapped up, with each having their own arc and closure. I understand what you mean when you say you want to play more though! I would maybe recommend the Hotline Miami level editor. I've heard there's some really good custom campaigns on there that are really fun! As for official releases, we'll have to see what Dennaton are working on next. I've see some stuff that sounds like they've been working on a new game, but I haven't seen any gameplay, or heard anything other than that. I'm sure their next game will scratch the Hotline Miami itch that we all have! Thanks again for watching! :)

The gameplay sections are an escape for both that player and the character, which really made me get the message in a way that I couldn't get from an uninteractive medium. It even locks some of the story behind player agency in the case of biker's revelation, if the player doesn't care about the truth then the character won't either. The more time I spend thinking about this series the more I'm convinced it's a masterpiece.
Hey i have a few questions?
What happens to biker? And is killing the two janitors not cannon? Who are they anyway? Just sent to watch us or are they something big.

You know what else? Get Tarantino on this. He knows how to do violence well and bloody and still be on every screen. In fact both violence and out-of-order narrative of the game hint to his work.

The amount of work gone into this is major. Nicely done man. Love it.

Some of my favorite games of all time. I wish they could make a #3, but after the ending of 2 they probably won't. I suppose it's better to leave us wanting more than give us something to be dissapointed in though. At least we have the level editor!
Hah! I never died in the last Jake mission! The story actually diverse after the mission, but lead to the same conclusion.
Yeah same here
