When I saw the new space echo editions from Boss (RE-2,RE202) I was like "yeah time to trade in my RE-20", but yeah ......nope I am keeping it. It is one of my favorites and sounds as good today as it did when I fell in love with it 6 years ago.
The RE definitely has more character, though I don't think the nux sounds bad. I would love to see you demo the wow, flutter, and saturation controls on the nux in-depth to show how significantly (or insignificantly) they affect the sound
My complaint about the NUX is that in all the videos I've seen, it seems like it takes a VERY long time to "settle" after changing the delay time. Tape units, analog delays, and their digital emulations do that pitch shift thing we all love when you change time up or down, but it's only for like, a second. And you think, "Whoa! That was cool." But see what's happening in 8:30 - 9:15 in this video when the time is changed to a longer delay. The NUX takes 10 or even 15 seconds to catch up, during which everything played is out-of-tune and warbly. And you think, "That doesn't sound right!" To put it more simply: it sounds wrong and bad. Maybe they can fix it in an update.
I sold my RE20 because there was something harsh in the mids of the core tone. It is i think the preamp which is a non bypass one or combination of Cosm tech involved in the pedal. I could not dual that out. I did like some of the real 201 like artefacts with the repeats but that could not overcome its flaws for me. I think the Nux is a bit more transparant.

I've got it since 2008 💣 very nice pedal.
The 202 is a hell of a lot better than this one. The saturation and wow and flutter added thicken it up a lot more and worth price of admission alone

I just bought a cheap used RE-20 for this very reason. The new versions just seem to have as much character.
It was great. Now there is the 202 that sounds much more like the real deal.

I agree, you must think that Nux costs less than half of Boss. I will make a demo about the other controls soon.

Thank you for showing the reverb only on both pedals! the Nux reverb sounds pretty useable on its own

The repeats on the Nux sound closer to my actual Space Echo. Pretty wild.
