Not that it matters, and I may be looking at it wrong, but you have tape "aged" written at 1:50, but the image on screen looks like it's still set at "new". Of course could be simply that audio and video tracks are not aligned. Thanks for the informative video, back to oscillating myself

Hey Patrick - yeh thanks for the note - the audio was actually re-recorded for those clips as my initial clip didn't have closely matched delay times - so the "Aged" part is correct - the video just doesn't match as it is a copy of the "New" clip!

Fender Hamertone Space Delay - $99USD often less.
Really regards which looper to pick: Boss because it will last forever, NUX for the features, Fender for the price, Memory Man Delux Nano, Canyon for all the crazy useful features - or just get a Helix and be 'good enough' for most everything.
      Please help :-)

The Helix reverbs and delays are astonishingly good now. Hard to say you’d be missing out buying a dedicated box.

The Boss RE202 does have four other reverbs your can access. Hall, Plate, Room and Ambience.

I heard all the good things about Volante. Never tried it in person, also none of this reviewed pedals.. But i have two RE-201. I must say, preamp on those Roland units is something that impacts overall sound, not just tape age , 'wow and flutter'.. you have saturate knob on that Boss unit, you should play with it. This all sound like a DD with a twist. THe boss is closest to the original, that reverb is part of the charm.

The saturation came out exceptionally well in this effect.

Pretty surprised how good the NU-X sounds but the roland definitely has more character.

Boss RE202 sounds fabulous. Helix also sounded good but there was something more convincing in the Boss sound. NUX sounded like a lo-fi option, which it might be.

Echoplex-1 type sound is something I can't get out of HX (legacy Tube Tape) the same way it sounds on Boss DD-500. Space Echo/Cosmos is pretty simiar although the feedback decay curve on Boss is much slower.

I must say, the NUX Verdugo (the bigger ones) series of pedals are insane. I've used the NUX Solid Studio, before I got the HX stom XL just now, for four years live and in the studio and it is stellar. I also had the Atlantic delay/reverb, also insanely good. You should do the whole series of that range. 🔥

to be fair the HX Stomp is £100 more with tons more....well everything and flexibility especially pairing it with another delay or reverb in the HX Stomp. They all sound great.

Cosmos Echo rulez! And with Helix you can save everything and recall anytime. I hate messing around with knobs, find a good sound, and then loose everything... Unless I don't write down the parameters on paper... 😅

It may just be because it's early in the morning but every time you said we can self oscillate it cracked me up.

I want to like the RE-202, but it just seems expensive for what it offers. The Volante has a few features that really set it apart. For one, it models three different multi-head machines. You can pan the heads however you want. You can change the head spacing. And finally the way it separates head playback and feedback is rather unique.
Beyond the Volante, though, the Cosmos Echo is actually an amazing model. Even if I didn’t have the Volante, it would be hard to justify paying $400 for the standalone RE-202, when it doesn’t really sound like the modeling is any better to me (as you said, the Line 6 version actually has a few parameters the Boss doesn’t).

There are no bad sounds. It’s just if you want to pay a extra for features. I feel like that pretty much goes for all pedals these days.

I like and enjoy using some echo and delay, but I'm not a connoisseur. I preferred the NuX, as I found the tone very pleasing.

I still use a lot of pedals with my helix. To my ears it always sounds better than what’s in the box. I also run through an analog mixer which also adds some mojo.

The Boss seems to have the nicest repeats with very nuanced little tapy sounds. I think that once the direct guitarsound comes in the repeat territory, the Boss gives the most diverse, spacey effectsound. It is an instrument on its own, especially if you take long to infinite feedback times. The Boss can do this much more then the other ones. But the Re 202 is maybe a little disconnected from the playing itself. The other ones (also the uad Galaxy) maybe connect the playing better with the effected sound, because the effect sound sits more in the background. This is what I conclude after watching some vid's and playing a Re 202 ( of wich the indirect symphonies were really spacey). A real Space Echo 201 seems to do both : giving and the ultra spacey sounds and connect with the playing at the same time.

I’d been planning on buying the boss but have now changed to the NUX, to me it sounds warmer, almost analog and the reverb is lush, plus its pretty much wysiwyg, ok there’s a little menu diving for a few tweaks but it looks like it will work perfect;ly straight out of the box

Is there a way to setup the stomp to do the ramp and warp functions like in the Re-202?

  • @markokrstanovic3444

When I use the Cosmos Echo on the Stomp, all the repeats are extremely distorted, even with headroom maxed. Are my headphones the issue here?

What exactly is the “dry thru” for? Is it for how much of your dry signal your hear?

I was wondering if the HX Stomp allows you to change the order the effects parameters are shown.
Like, the cosmos echo, for instance, is showing in its first page "time, ramp and feedback", but it would be much more useful if we could set it to show "time, feedback and mix" in the first page, as those are the parameters we are more likely to change often, once we are set on the other parameters.

I had the RE-202, waited a long time for it.
It does sound good, but there were some limitations.
The delay is always mono except for setting 12 which is kinda stereo(?)
You can sync to incoming tempo only at 1/4 note, there are no fixed subdivisions.
The feature to footprint ratio is way off, I couldn’t justify the size of it on a board when I needed another delay pedal to cover what it doesn’t do, a way to sync 2 different pedals, and a way to route 202 in parallel (how I feel this delay should be used)
I sold it (for pretty much what I paid for it) along with a Reverb and another digital delay and ordered a Stomp - the feature to footprint ratio is unbeatable imho and was enough for me to make that decision

Well the winner is the sound you like the best. Price has Nothing to do with it. Of course it might be a limit for us. What’s great about the pedal units is the functions are just there. No menus to work. I know multieffectpedals like the HX Stomp probably is the future in guitar pedals, but what is the future of the guitar?

For the price of a RE-202 you can just about have an RE-2 AND the NuX. Job sussed.

    Give the plethora a look
Some really good stuff in their toneprints and very easy and potent midi hooks 🪝. The 5 mash switches really come into their own with the space echo
