Excellent review, it was what I wanted to hear, well recorded, with a clean guitar and searching the parameters. The sound achieved in the boss at minute 15:20 is incredible, that sound alone is worth the pedal. thanks!!
The Shimmer preset on the Boss RV-6 with the tone down sounds very breath like. Very similar to the Particle Reverb on theZoom MS 70 CDR with the Mode on STBL, movement=0. 08:19 :)
Because of your video and I can't explain why, the sounds of the hof2 inspired and moved me. That didn't happen with the other reverbs in your videos. So I bought one. Thank you very much,
Heyyo Ambient Grandmaster : "Perry Frank" ... in my Opinion :::: The "RV-6" is an absolut Incredible Reverb Pedal,,, not so expensive, but very Effective !!.....
I prefer the HoF2. I'm biased though, since I own it lol. That said, I like the extra features it has, such as the MASH switch as well as the ability to store presets that you can make yourself on/in it. It's a really nice sounding pedal with nice features for someone who don't require the sound quality of more expensive reverb pedals such as the Strymon stuff etc.
One of the most beautiful sounding music I've heard from a guitar gear review. The Boss RV-6 edges the HOF2 out with some extra spark and presence, but if I was randomly given one of them I'd be happy with either. The HOF2 tone is slightly warmer and darker. However, the Boss is significantly more expensive than the HOF2 in my country so that might affect the buyers' decision (about USD183 for Boss vs. USD113 for HOF2).
Seems to me the Boss is better on the basic reverbs, but the HOF2 excels in the realm of big ambient washes of sound, capturing a certain dreamy quality. I just purchased the HOF2 and am waiting for it to arrive. I'm hoping I can load a Toneprint with a basic spring reverb that is more natural.
Both sound quite good and are demo'd very well! I prefer the Hall of Fame 2, so that's what I bought. Seems just overall more flexible and feature-full. And cheaper! But I would be happy with either one.
yeah, I got the HOF2 as well. A lot of comments here are saying that the Boss RV-6's shimmer sounds better and I actually agree but I fired up the toneprint and got a very similar if not better sound (in my personal opinion) in about 5 minutes. Sounds very cool doesn't it!
@@RN-jq1oh cool, I haven't really messed with the Toneprint stuff much, other than trying a few of the available presets, and checking if the shimmer octave could be set low rather than high (it can't). So I bought the JHS 3 Series Octave Reverb, and I use that with the low octave setting, in addition to my Hall of Fame 2 for other reverb needs.
@@DrJoshGuitar you just use the default toneprint for shimmer but turn down (or up in frequency) the low pass filter so it doesn't filter out any of the octave generation's circuitry. Sorry but unfortunately there is some tweaking you'll have to do but it's only really in the octave tab in the toneprint software.
Great video! What would you suggest for acoustic violin? Unfortunately I don t have the budget to try both before choosing so an advise would be very useful! I also checked your FLASHBACK 2 VS BOSS DD-8 comparison video and I have the same question. I know from comments that you prefer BOSS in both cases (reverb and delay) but I would like to see what do you think would be more suitable for acoustic violin. Thank you very much!!! ☺
It depends on the type of sound you want to make, Hof is a little darker and confused than the Rv6 that is more brillant and clear. Same for Flashback and dd8 but I talk as a guitarist. I never played a violin then I didn't try these pedals with it.
I prefer the HoF2 because The pedal has true bypass, buffer, kill dry and, and can use the swith like expression pedal and I can create effects with the appointment !!
Funny, but the very reason I got rid of my RV6 was that it was so clear and clean that it stepped on my main signal. The Rv6 doesn’t have pre-delay, and a now wiser me realizes that for my style and instrument(amplified harmonica), Pre-Delay on reverb is a must have. The Plate on the Boss really nails it. The HoF’s Plate is kinda meh. Your results may vary.
Pareciera ser que el Mash inclina la balanza, pero realmente no se ve algo que dure en el tiempo si se usa mucho, mejor pedal de expresión, y el boss permite incorporarlo
He left the pre-delay switch on the HOF2 to long for these. The test would be totally different switched to short. Pre-delay is an extremely useful feature to have adjustable for what it’s worth!
I love your ambient stuffs..i wish to buy a good shimmer pedal.getting confused between caline wonderland, zoom 70 cdr,hof2 n rv6.can you give some guidance? Thanks from India❤🤘🏻
I really enjoy your videos and the hard work you put into them but I would like to make one suggestion when comparing the spring reverbs. Instead of playing the same loop could you do some surf-type or staccato guitar instead or in addition to? Many will be listening for the all-important 'drip' of a spring reverb and the slow dreamy playing style does not highlight this effect at all. Many thanks, mate! Nice work!
As if you could read my mind… exactly what i needed since im about to buy a reverb but didnt know which of these both. Thanks for your great content during this time! Btw, have you ever used an octaver with those reverbs? I wonder if that sounds good especially with shimmer…
Yeah that’s hard. You need to hear and feel by yourself as you play. I have Oceans 11, but idk why I’m still curious abt boss. Maybe there’s something I don’t hear right in Oceans 11.
i have HOF1. well, it's sounds even worst than VOX VT20X reverbs. i buy Alexander Space Race and send HOF to my brother as gift. shimmer in HOF2 just bad.
I have the hall of fame and I have to say, the whole tone print thing is super gimmicky. Kind of like an 80’s Rambo knife. It sounds kind of ok on clean guitar but you lose all clarity on dirty channel and absolutely sucks live. It will be coming off my board soon. I would rather have no reverb than play through that muddled mess.

yeah, I can't stand the shimmer unless the tone is all way down.

Cool! Everyone has their own taste 🔥
Thank you 🙏
I like the HOF 2 especially the TonePrint function thanks for the demo!
Both are phenomenal pedals. I own both of them and they individually give something the other can't, so... Get both!! Awesome review man.
Thanks a lot 🙏

RV-6 also works great with the electro acoustic guitars , it serves and completes my Ovation tone ! ...
Hi there my friend, I prefer it too 💣
Si viene su questo canale per i pedali e poi si rimane estasiati dal chitarrista, un senso estetico per l'ambient pazzesco!
Grazie infinite 🙏🙏
I have the HOF2 but cant help thinking the Boss sounds better..especially the shimmer - thanks for the demo!
Try to listen to the Shimmer of the RV6 you can find the time in the first comment. With the Eq on the bass you can get an incredible sound.
Funny. I think exactly the opposite.
you can just get boss gt1 or any other multi effects pedal as they have most of the effects in digital form.
@@stefpirBecause one’s hearing is often unique to self-damage, etc.
Thank you for starting with low level/mix. Most videos start with levels so high they are only applicable to shoe gaze.

The firmware on the TC sounds more authentic. The tails on the Boss end too abruptly.
Amazing video, bro! Helped me define by the RV-6! God bless you!

I think boss has better dsp? If im correct. The downside is some tone suck.
no on hof2 there is pre-delay activated.

I'm curious how that 'MASH" technology woks. Will it wear out quickly? I'm getting the Boss regardless. Thanks for the tones.
I prefer the Boss, but it's personal taste
Great comparison!
Thank you very much 🙏
I like both but the mash switch on my HOF2 broke, so I got the RV-6 because Boss pedals are so durable.

for me the winner is the RV-6
Totally agree, better ambience, better eq of reverb and types. In the end who cares that you can't save your own presets.
RV-6! Love the low tone shimmer. Just wished the pedal was smaller.
Love it too
I prefer the HoF2 because The pedal has true bypass, buffer, kill dry and, and can use the swith like expression pedal and I can create effects with the appointment !!
Boss sounds more defined and clear. TC is muddy and blurry.
That is why I prefer the Boss 🔥
Boss is very good to the point that it can be good enough for a Grammy award winning album. It’s very professional sounding

I have RV 6 but both pedals are really good. It depends on your taste now. But i go for boss because of durability issues. 😊
I prefer Boss too
Why everyone plays that chords when demo reverb, Am I missing something? Is that a song?
Never forget the power of Am
Why do I hear delay on the the HOF2 ? is that because of the long pre-delay ?

If you need only a good reverb for ambient, postrock Rv6 is the best. If you need other sounds in a small package Zoom ms70 could be a good choice
got a rv6 last week, :)
🔥🔥
Merci, comparatif au top!
🙏🙏🙏
As a HOF2 owner, I wish I bought the RV-6 after watching this
Rv6 is better for me
Would it be possible to get tabs/chords/notes/etc for the lines you play? They sound great
Thanks so much! Usually I improvise when I make pedal reviews, but yes of course, I will make a tutorial about how I create my music soon.

Weird delay sound coming from HoF on Spring. Too fake drip
