If their personalities stop 20 times between them, especially when they are sitting so close to one another, then the personalities aren’t that dynamic, are they?
Wow, so the R100 must be the re-used guts of the old Canon M50 (EF-M). Same issues, huge crop, loss of dual-pixel autofocus, and awful rolling shutter in 4k, but pretty good as a 1080 camera.
I like both of your channels individually but I just love your colabs. Funny but still informative. More of these please! You have a very good, fluent and catchy conversation going on.
Canon always has refurb r100's that always go for super cheap. I picked one up for fun at only $249 (US) for the body and it's hilariously capable for what it is. I also have been shooting Canon digital since the d60 came out so my expectations for cameras probably is based on how far we've come from since back then. Something I've really been happy with the r100 is it's just a really fun timelapse camera. Just get a EF 10-18 and a cheap ef>rf converter if you don't already have one and you can get some killer 4k30fps timelapse video that looks amazing. I even picked up a LP-E17 battery adapter to USB-C and connect straight to a vmount to get past the horrible battery life issues the LP-E17 has.
Welcome to the Laurel and Hardy of UA-cam. What a great collab team. Ya know, if I didn't already have the Osmo Pocket 3, I would have considered the R100 for my UA-cam videos. On B&H you can get the kit lens and the 55-210mm lens for just $100 more.
The Sony ZVE10 is still the best value camera in the Sony line up for $600... with a Yongnuo 16mm f1.8 and a Rode video micro II ... And you have a great studio set up under a $1000. Now of course we didn't talk about lighting, but you can be creative with natural light and reflectors, if you are on a low budget.
Holy heck, I didn't realize that Gerald was based in London, Ontario! I am from London too and purchased my Canon R8 from the same Camera Canada location 👍. Another great collab with Mark as well!
The R100 may not be very competitive in the video department - but for photo, it is great bang for buck. A very good entry level mirrorless system camera as far as photo quality goes. The big negative though is the lack of an articulated screen.
You can find a used GH5 or G9 for around 500-600 bucks, I just got a G9 and the V-Log upgrade, so it can shot 4k 10bit 4:2:2 in V-Log. Not bad for 500 bucks.
I really like my EOS R100. I bought it originally for a school project and because I wanted something cheap-ish to be able to take photos with. It fits my use case well, and I think I'll keep using it as my daily driver.
Great job on the video folks! Thanks for making it. I sell those cables all the time. I expect to hear a version of the opening jingle to be "Giraffe Undone... He's crazy!"
IMO more money into the camera than into the studio build up - this way you always have a better image to play with irrespective of the location. The R100 was surprising bad btw, and Agfa had good audio out of a box for a cam with no ports. In fact Agfa had a good vibe for a comedy channel 😄 Good to see You Two in the same vid! (I shortened the word "video" by whole two letters and then explained what I did in the brackets). I hope you guys will keep it up. Cheers! 👍
As someone who both films their own videos and watches youtube, im 100% fine with high bitrate 1080p. On a computer it looks the same as youtubes compressed 4k anyway and it saves me money, its exactly why i havent moved away from my 200d yet. Might get some improvement but not enough to dump 1-2k to replace a camera thats already good enough.
Now you need to get Kasey from Camera Conspiracies and do a slow motion running-across-the-street vlogging test. Kasey could train you on proper slow motion running technique, while also suggesting an all fruit-based diet. That last part will not be relevant to the camera test but will serve as the dramatic character arc for the story.
Omg, in addition to my fx3, a7cii, etc... I have that underwater pentax point and shoot.... stupid thing works good enough for it to go to one of the kids.... until I got my go pro's, it was my only underwater rated camera. If memory serves correct, we've had it for almost 10 years now. Hard to rotate out.
The AGFA photo sounds like "egg for photo". Let's see how accurate that is... also: a SELFIE screen?? That is... unique. Somehow I thought a flip-out screen would be the cheaper way of accomplishing that.
Jordan from Petapixel would have been a great candidate for this format as well. Also I think, that he can ve roasted for his bag Peter-Lindgren-style.
Honestly I'm kinda shocked how bad the Canon performed. At that price point I would have expected A LOT more. Yes it's "cheap" for a "real camera", but it's 600 bucks none the less and with Gerald's studio lighting even a mid-range phone camera would deliver adequate images. And the difference to other cameras that are just slightly more expensive or are a few generations old is MASSIVE. You can easily get a used Sony a7 Mk2 or something of the a6000 line for that price and those cameras run circles around the R100 when it comes to image quality.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't you get pretty good results with a GoPro Hero 11 ? It's $300 new. But I reckon you could find one for around $200 if you search.
Hi Gerald. Please can you make us a video on video quality of Canon R5ii.. there are guys claiming that it looks soft compared to R8 axept the 8K raw files but that is huge and put a lot of strain on edeting system.
Well, the conclusion could have been Mark's ZV-E10 moment. :D I can't really understand what Canon does with its stuff, it was the same with the M50 Mk 2. In my country, the R100 is 450€ and the ZV-E10 (Mk 1) is about 620€, a new full frame A7 II is 720€. What Canon does with these cheaper cameras and their 4K abilities is just ridiculous because they advertised this R100 as an entry level camera, aiming at people coming from a smartphone. I highly doubt that people used to a smartphone will have any fun with this device because it doesn't even hold up to the standards of a modern smartphone. Smartphone shooters are hybrid shooters, so you can't leave video capabilities completely out if you are not coming up with any other major benefit. Doing selfies without a flippy screen isn't easy, too, I'd assume. I hope Canon's CEO gets one of these on his next anniversary or whatever, he will have the nightmares of his life. :D
I have the agfa DC 8200 as a cheap photo camera as well as its cheaper brother DC 5500 For when i don't want anything with a power zoom but when i am a bit more serious but still budget i have a Kodak AZ 425
You probably could use the OG ZV-1 with great lighting and a mic for talking head. Not sure about THAT Canon camera… I still have a T3i that looks decent for 1080P
ffinally, wanted you guys to collab forever, do you like r100 vs zv1 ii as my first camera for photo, every says zv1 ii is bad for photo, do you agree?
@@cashmerethepup for ultimate compactness - the ZV1ii is a good choice. The photos are still good, but the image quality will be better on a a6100 with a sigma 18-50 or canon r100 with sigma 18-50. Those would be my picks. They will be bigger and heavier and not completely pocketable.
as far as i remember its better to spend a little more for r50 and get it as a first camera, rather than r100 more features, for a little bit more money

Hows your health Mark. TC
I'd pay good money to see pixels dueling it out.
@@hari_fyi I'm still alive, it's better than it was. Thanks for asking.
Yes it also has the Digic 8 instead of the Digic X. Pretty much a downgraded M50 but with an RF mount.
Overall, it worse than even the M200, lol. How the hell they make it no touchscreen in 2024. EOS M got it since 2013 or smth.
I was fully expecting a Xyla test on these cameras, lol
I'd honestly love to see the Agfa put through its (admittedly shitty) paces.
I like both of your channels individually but I just love your colabs. Funny but still informative. More of these please! You have a very good, fluent and catchy conversation going on.

even if you have a thousand bucks, just bumps that to A6000 and a really good glass like the sigma 18-35 f/1.8

Thank you Mark Bennett for helping out GU. This was a really fun episode. We need a group shoot of cheap cameras.
The Pentax records up to the usual half hour, that 30 second figure refers to slow-mo!
Correct! It will do 30 second 120fps slow motion clips with no audio which ends up a 2 min viewable clip at 30fps.

Oh crap I live in London Ontario too. Cool
This is the most Canadian Gerald video yet.
Should have put a better quality lens on the r100 just to see if that makes the 1080p footage a lot more usable
