- DIY huge wall art 1m x 1.5m for so much cheaper! This modern and minimal textured wall art turned out amazing, yet it is super affordable and easy to make! Plus I’m showing you a hack to make a canvas by using only styrofoam. We’re making this large wall art for only a fraction of the price.
Canvases can be pretty pricey, especially if you’re getting a large one.
So, today I’m showing you how I DIY-ed mine.
This turned out even better than I expected! I just love it!
I am honestly just mindblown with how amazing this turned out!
Step by step we’re going through all the details on how I made this DIY wall art, so stay with me. Before we start make sure to subscribe to the channel and click the like button since it really helps my small channel a lot.
What you’re going to need if you want to make this DIY canvas, is:

This is a great idea to try and cut costs down! (With that in mind, Michaels is a store in the U.S. that often has a sale with ALL canvases 70% percent off. That's when I buy mine) Can I add a helpful tip to save you time creating your smooth plaster texture.. As with drywall, you can go back and smooth it with a fine grit sandpaper once dry. Also, you can cut your wood at a 45° angle, and it will give a more finished look. Use a combination on wood glue and super glue. The super glue will create a bond while the wood glue dries. Be careful about getting superglue on bare Styrofoam. It does melt it, yet can do pretty interesting things. That's something to look up on UA-cam lol Anyway, I hope you do not take this as a negative comment. You have great ideas! I am sincerely trying to give helpful tips to a fellow artist 😊
Lovely and so simply done.
So glad you like it 🥰
Moving into a new place, I am so glad I found you.
I think the paw print adds character 🐕🐕🐕
It's interesting how the small thin frame is really the best choice for these projects.
Yes, I agree 💯
A shower curtain with a beautiful design would be easy to glue to the styrofoam. I have two forest shower curtains hung on a tension rod across a 120 inch closet opening as a landscape. It looks awesome!!!
Just yesterday I was trying to think of a different material other than a canvas because I want to make a huge wall art and canvas is expensive. This video was very timely when it came up on my feed and your design turned out amazing! Great job! Very creative!
So happy my idea is helpful in any way! 🥰
Beautifully done. Definitely going to give this a try in my hallway space.
Glad you like it 🥰
Wow Wow Wow. I am retiring today. I have been searching for things to do to keep me occupied with my new life. This is it ! I am certain I will give this a try. Thanks
You got this! So glad I inspired you 💕
I use latex tub caulk as my textured medium. It dries rubbery with no dust.
Thank you for this great idea. Your yarn idea was brilliant!
So happy you like it! 🤗
I'm from Brazil! Parabéns e gratidão !❤
Thank you the styrofoam hack is great love it
So glad you like it!!
It's so beautiful. Thanks for the ideas.
So glad you like it! 🥰
WOW! I'm so glad to find your channel. Your kind of art is so amazing! Love it! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
🥰 I'm so happy you like my channel and what I'm doing 💞
Felicidades... Hermoso trabajo...
So therapeutic ,it’s beautiful ❤❤
Happy to hear you liked it 🤗💕
Gorgeous!!! ❤❤❤
I actually liked it when you dribbled
the paint onto the canvas. The black may look sharper by dribbling it on. Looks good!
Yes, I should have dribbled the black paint tbh. But I was a bit scared to not ruin it by taking it one step further 😅 My biggest DIY fear hahaha
@@HomeByMon I know the feeling:) Next time!
Very creative ❤❤😊
Soothing video and voice. Splendid art!!! Thank you for sharing 😊
So hAppy you like it!!! 🥰
👏👏 so beautifull. Thank you so much
So glad you like it ☺️💕
Such a beautiful work of art!! For the final, smooth plaster layer, is that just plain plaster with no pigment added? Thanks!!
Thanky ounso much 🥰 I'm so glad you like it. I added a little bit of pigment, but it didn't do mich to be honest 😅
Wooooow soooooo wunderbar, danke dir ❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏
WOW! That’s and awesome idea!
Love it!
So glad you like it 🥰
Came out nice.
Genious idea with the styrofoam! 🤩
🥰🌷🌷🌷
very goooood!!!😍😍😍
So happy you like it! 🥰
This is gorgeous! Great job!!! 👏🏽 Can you please share details on the styrofoam adhesive (a link if possible) and the the plaster you used (pop or filler/speckling) .
Hey, I am so glad you liked my DIY 🥰
I cannot link the styrofoam adhesive since I bought it from a local store. But it is basically bought as a powder which you need to mix with water. It's sold in huge bags such as the ones for plaster and cement, but it says styrofoam adhesive on it.
About the plaster, it was a leftover, and again I have no idea of the brand I used 😅 However it's plaster of Paris. I am not helping much... 🙃
I was just gonna ask what type of styrofoam she used and the styro adhesive. Is she mixing Plaster of Paris or using Joint Compound? I made similar 3D art years ago using wood as my canvas. 😊
Great work, Lovely Dog❤❤❤
That’s simply gorgeous I love it and it’s so creative I gotta try and make one
So glad you like it! If you are trying it out, add something on the back for support first. That would have made things easier for me! 😅
Vow!!! This is amazing!!! Thank you for inspiration!!!
🥰💕
Oh no you covered up Mars’s signature. I would have left it as his contribution to modern are. Lovely.
Love this - will try it!!!
Wooooowwww. I love it!!!! 😍 I now got a lot of inspiration. Thanks a lot!!! Congratulations!!! 😊👏👏👏👏
(P.S.: Your dog is sooooo cute!!! ♥️🐕).
Thank you!!!!! ☺️💕
great job! Thanks for the inspo
So glad you like it 🥰💕
I will try this technique.
You're fabulous ! I just found you, and subscribed right away! I'm looking forward to more of your videos!
Thank you so much! I'm so happy you like my videos! 🥰
This is awesome! The link for the styrofoam is out of stock. Is there somewhere else you can recommend for this item? And what size are the styrofoam?
This is fantastic . I really like the way you framed it
Thanks ☺️💕
Hi awesome work
Awesome job...I want to try my hand a DIY canvas art
Do it! 😁
Beautiful! Very creative!
Thank you so much 🥰
Simply beautiful. You've given me some really good ideas that I cannot wait to try out. The framing idea on this piece of art is perfect and so nice looking, it's a real complement to the art piece itself. Using the styrofoam is a great idea, I'll check out the prices here in America on large canvases because the work preparing the foam is mildly intensive 😄
It's so much better when it's done on canvas. Hanging it was a nightmare if I am completely honest 😅 And it weight so much more.
However, I wanted to give a budget friendly option for those who don't have the budget to invest in large canvas, since the prices on canvases can sometimes be ridiculously high 😔
I would love to get an update from you, if you do some of the art ideas, please let me know 😊💕🤗
@@HomeByMon I am currently working on a large piece and it's he cardboard from a 50 tv I've started by caulking the corners but only to square it off with tape. It's got a similar situation on the back but it's made of foam....
@@lorettascott5477 Nice one! I think cardboard will work great. Just make sure you figure out how to hang it beforehand 😅
@@HomeByMon I did the styrofoam cut out that's already in place us working beautifully. I'm glad you shared because I was wondering about future snafus' been having trouble hanging things lately 😬 skip the alien 👽 tape 😂 It came out beautiful regardless next time we know. B🙏🤗😊❤️🌹
I buy used canvases on FB and paint over them.its cheaper than buying new canvases.
Wow!! Absolutely beautiful!!! 😍😍
You are sooo good!!! I love the color mix you made for the beige color! 😍😍🥰🥰 Which pigments did you use to get to this color??
Thank you so much! I am so happy to hear you like it! 🤗💕 I used some old samples I found. One was brown and the other one yellow. It takes a lot of patience to get the perfect beige though 😅
@@HomeByMon Oh yesss!! I totally agree with you! It does take a lot of patience!!! Haha! 😊 Which pigment brand would you recommend though? 🥰
@@MartinaMcCain Mine were for pigmenting plaster, but they work for acrylic paint too. The name of the brand is San Marco. They are liquid pigments. I honestly prefer liquid over powdered. I think they are easier to work with. ☺️
@@HomeByMon Thank you so much! 🥰 I hope you make more DIY art videos!!! You are incredible!! ❤️
I want to sure that
Is the adhesive which you use, plaster? Wonderful work🧡
No, the adhesive is for gluing styrofoam. I linked it into the description box 🥰
Beautiful canvas art inspiration, thank you!
So hpoy to hear you like it! 🤗
I love it! Do you think it’s too bumpy to do an acrylic pour…? Is it possible to smooth out the plaster and do some paint blowing with a straw…? This is really gorgeous! Really gives me some ideas for my huge blank wall!!!
Yes it's possible! And that's actually such a nice idea 🥰You can even send it after it's fully dried, so that the paint can run more smoothly 💞
Gorgeous ❤
Wow this is just beautiful. I so enjoyed your video. Luv from S Africa
Awww thank you so much!! 💕💖 I'm so glad you liked it ☺️🌼
Esas planchas son de tergopor, ? Queda genial!!!!!😮
🥰💕
LOVE THIS!! But, how do I hang it on the wall??
I glued a piece of wood board off camera, along the whole length of the canvas, and screwed picture hangers on it ☺️
@@HomeByMon Genius! Thank you 🪷
Great job. I love the "paw prints". I would have left them🤣
Yes!! I left one in the corner 🤫 haha
Oh my gosh! Sooooo beautiful!
Thank you!!! 🥰💕
Gorgeous!!
So glad you like it ☺️
Waw c est vraiment magnifique 🤩
Les panneaux mesurent combien svp?
This turned out beautifully 🤍 How would you say hot glueing the frame holds up over time? Or would you suggest a different method if one is wanting to sale art pieces. New sub btw 🫶🏼
Hi, thank you so much for subscribing 🥰
I would say the hot glue is holding up, but it can be done way better for sure. First off, if you are planning to sell it, I would suggest to do it on a canvas. It is a lot more heavier and messier the way I did it with styrofoam.
Since the sides of the canvas are wood I would suggest going in with a nail gun for the frame. You can also glue it with gorilla hot glue and a few nails, or construction adhesive that will hold on better.
Hooe I helped you ☺️💕
@@HomeByMon Ah thank you so much! Look forward to watching more creative videos. 💛
awesome very creative
Beautiful ❤
Thanks!
Beautiful!!!!!!!!
This is perfect. I just put together furniture and have these huge pieces of styrofoam and was wondering how to use for art. (: happy I stumbled here.
Glad you liked it!! 🥰
I loved too
Thank you! 💕
Amazing !

@@HomeByMon OK, I am excited I’ve already subscribed so I’ll put that notification on and I can’t wait to see.💕✨ Do you have TikTok?
@@chefluigishatara Awww so glad to hear that! And yes, I have a TikTok but I don't post regularly tbh 😅 It's @homebymm
Love this!!! I wonder what it would have looked like if you have mod podged the black yarn on for texture.
I was honestly thinking about gluing it in any way, but I haven't thought of mod podge. I will try it out in one of my next projects 💕
Came out really beautiful!!
I am so glad you like it!! 🥰💕
Hi! I just love this DIY! Great job! Congratulations...it is amazing!
Thank you so much 🥰 So glad you like it
Love this. What are you using for plaster? Thank you
I am using drywall plaster. It's not pre mixed, I had to mix it myself ☺️
Great idea!
Cheap I love it.
Thanks 😊
Very beautiful
I am so glad you like it! 🥰
So beautiful. M definitely gng to try it
Yes! Try it! 🤗
So beautiful! I’m going to try this. Thanks so much for sharing!
Rite- imma try it
Did you glue the supports on the back?
Yes, but it did not work as time passed by :)
Beautiful
glad you like it!!!
It's gorgeous! Great job. So many great ideas, thanks a lot for sharing.
Thank you so much! I am so happy you like it 🤗💕
wow beautiful
So glad you like it 🤗
hi, wondering how its holding? any cracks? thank you
You're not using compound joint for the fiberglass mesh?
Well I think the adhesive is really close in texture with the compiund joint. I've been covering my balcony walls with fiberglass mesh and styrofoam adhesive and it holds great 👍
At the 12:17 point in this video, if you turned it upsidedown, It would look like an Arizona dessert with a butte, like Table Mountain, between Phoenix and Prescott!
Muy bueno🇦🇷! Gracias 😊
Glad you like it 🥰
This DIY requires definetely more patience than I could ever had, but the results are incredibly stunning!!😮the “canvas” looks like a real, expensive high end wall art piece of art! really amazing👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻❤️ #dogartisthenewblack 😅🐕
Thank you so much great video
So glad you like it 🥰
What do you think about using instead a MDF board? Do you think it would result the same?🤔
You can do it on an mdf too, that's actually a great idea! I did a plaster wall art on an mdf in my latest video. It's holding well so far 😊
What’s the plaster and water ratio? Does it dry up fast? (First timer 🤓)
I am not sure what the exact ratio is, I think it's 1:1 but you should read the instructions on your package of plaster ☺️
And yes, plaster dries so fast 😅 that's why it's important to work in small batches. Also you can try joint compound or drywall mud instead, they work as good, but have a way longer working time 💞
what was the cost to make this piece with all the materials?
That's a good question. I think it was somewhere around $25, but half of that was for the wood framing. I also got to do so many more projects with the leftover plaster ☺️
Hi, what color did you use in your wall?
It was a long time ago, but I think it's just plain white acrylic wall paint. Can't really remember what brand I used 😅
IT Is very nice ❤️
Thank you so much! ☺️💕
❤❤❤ IT 👍
🤗💕
Surpasses elegant!
Ohh thank you so much! 🤗💞
Nice
🤗💗
Do we need to use the fiberglass mesh on all DIY canvas or just on those that are styrofoam?
Just on the styrofoam. In the last video I posted 2 days ago, I do 3 DIYs on canvases and I don't use fiberglass mesh 😊
Thank you so much for answering!
@@debbiemoscoso8606 Always!!
Why is the fiberglass mesh needed?
The fiberglass is used to prevent cracking :)
Não entendi nada, mais amei lindo 🥰❤❤👏👏
💖💖💖
Or using gesso?
Well, the good news is that kids have totally opposite tastes than their parents. So, your kid's homes are all going to be drop dead beautiful, full of life and color and harmony..
You are so right ☺️💞
What about using 100% cotton canvas that painters use to use on the foam boards they are very inexpensive
