Trina Q, when Robin Williams passed away, I was in shock and disbelief. However, when I rewatched all of his old interviewers, I saw a profound sadness, now better known and understood as Depression, in his eyes. When other celebrities have passed away, I felt bad for their family members and friends, but this, this was the first time I felt bad for my generation. My mom’s (The woman who with her husband began the children’s home where I was raised.) great grandson got to meet him. At the time, he had no idea who Robin was except for the voice of ‘Genie’ in “Aladdin”. I say, “At the time” because her great grandson was only about preschool to early elementary school age. Of all of his work I’ve seen, I enjoyed all of it. I fell in love with “The Crazy One’s”. R.I.P., Robin. We still miss you down here.
What about Morgan Freeman in "The Lego Movie"? In the scene where all the master-builders are gathered in Cloud Cuckoo Land, Morgan Freeman's character, Vitruvius, says "Alright. I know! While I love the ‘Be our Guest’ reference, I was a little miffed when they didn’t do the impromptu luau. But then again, the main reason why ad-libs are funny is that they’re so one of a kind that you can’t really do get the timing of execution right after it’s been delivered.

Ertha Kitt getting surprised by her own voice was improv!?🤯 I swear to God I would’ve assumed that was scripted because I didn’t think they could be able to hear their own voice when it’s pitch shifted like that I guess the more you know🤷🏼♀️
James Woods actually offered to take a HUGE paycut (like being paid peanuts) to help the movie release because financial reasons were threatening to forever shelf the release of Hercules. Luckily, he didn't have to, but it is very touching that James Woods loved the movie so much that he was willing to basically make no money on it despite being an A list Actor.
I remember reading somewhere that when somebody from the Archives department went to the script writers for "The Emperor's New Groove" for a copy of the script, they said "we have no script". So much of the movie was improvised by the actors that there was no official script. Another scene that was improvised in the movie was the scene between Kuzco (David Spade) and Pacha (John Goodman) as they were heading towards the restaurant, when they were discussing Kuzco's low blood sugar.
Top 3 (In my opinion): 1. Fiona's belch 2. Do the Hula 3. Bucky or Binky? Fiona's belch was the most unscripted animation moment on this list because the actress was drinking soda and she belched it out, which cause the actors to react while staying in character, that's completely unscripted and you don't see or hear those rare occasions often, which is why it is on top. Do the Hula was another famous and unscripted moment because it was a sneaking or diversion plan that the writers try to get the actors to make their own. When I heard it was unscripted, I was like "yup, this is a worthy contender for most unscripted!" because it is a famous scene. And the last one was unscripted by a kid actor and the argument scene was really good, especially with the corrections. The fact that Joaquin Phoenix missaid his name, and then Jeremy Suarez corrected him for the misname that was unscripted was quite funny.
James Woods said Hades was one of his most cherished works and I agree with that he probably had a bucket load of fun voicing Hades and doing the improv and going through the motions and all that jazz because being the bad guy is so fun! you aren’t bound by morals or restraints, you can just go ham and be as bad as you want or more specifically as bad as the person directing you wants you to be😂

1. R.I.P Samuel E Wright, Robin Williams, Eartha Kitt and Gilbert Gottfried 💔 2. HOLD UP THE BEAR KID WAS VOICED BY JEREMY SUAREZ FROM THE BERNIE MAC SHOW?! HOW’D I NOT RECOGNIZE HIS VOICE 😭?!
While I can understand, I'm surprised Robin Williams as the Genies is not on the list, since practically all of his lines were Ab libbed, like Disney loved his work so much they gave him free reign on his work.
My drama group has a reputation for improvising during shows, whether they know their lines or not. Stuff we do during practice often worms its way into the final productions. For example, in our production of Into the Woods, we were working on I Know Things Now, and the actress playing Granny jokingly started hacking at the actor playing the wolf with our prop knife. We found it hysterical, so the directors just had her chopping away at our wolf throughout the whole song. Another gem was our entire production of Hamlet. Horatio making faces at the audience ala The Office whenever Hamlet continued to be insane, Ghost King Hamlet bringing a Starbucks cup onstage for no reason, Laertes cracking stupid puns during the fencing match… we had a great time. I’m very excited for our next production and am waiting in anticipation for all the chaos that will unfold during Peter Pan.
I’m surprised there isn’t a better entry for Jackman. I saw him on broadway doing the Music Man. That night he worked with the understudy for the female lead and she accidentally shoved him really hard. He took it in stride, acted goofy and broke the actress into a fit of laughter. And somehow it all ended up seeming natural and in character for both. It was an amazing scene to behold.
"Whoa, it's me!" "Prove it." "You're a dick" One of the best short scenes from the first Fox X-Men movie back in 2000 imo, really plays the Cyclops/Wolverine dynamic right.
Also, "Osmosis Jones" is a very underrated movie, imo. I liked how it combined the realism and animated scenes, and I know there are others with the same methods, but I just find the creativity (and tbh, educational aspect regarding health and bacteria without involving any realistic gore or super grueseome stuff) super awesome. Plus let's be real...That villian was literally sick. :P
I'm learning a lot from the animated films this is talking about. So many films that I grew up with as a child and now that I'm seeing this. This is some interesting. I miss Robin Williams, the 90s, the early 2000s. Those were the best times for animated entertainment.
A few girls can do a Mort impression pretty well, someone “Can you girls stop with the Mort voice it is getting annoying” Me “No, I just figured out that I can do a Mort impression!”. We all chimed in a Mort voice “I love you King Julain~” And “May I kiss your feet, King Julain~”. That’s what you get, from telling theatre girls to stop 😂
That Shrek burping thing... I'm gonna go ahead and call shenanigans on that one. As far as I am aware, Murphy has gone on record that he recorded his lines in isolation at his home studio and never recorded with Diaz or Myers at the same time. Same goes for Yzma's cat voice. Things like that are done in post production so I really doubt she actually heard how her voice will sound like before the movie was already released.
Glad that Brother Bear got in the Ranks for the Bucky not Binky scene :) . On of my other favorite stories from Dad is how much fun he had with Dave Thomas and Rick Moranis who voiced the two moose Rut and Tuke. Dad, who Directed Brother Bear (Aaron Blaise) says that 90 percent that is used in the movie is just their improv. They read the script just to get the situation and mood and then ran with it. The sound crew ended up forcing Dad out of the Sound Room because he kept laughing and ruining the takes.
I didn't find the samantha joke all that funny. BUT, when immediately after, Olaf asked for Samantha AGAIN, even though he just corrected himself that he didn't know one. THAT killed me. XD
We as a family had watched "The Lion King" so much, we knew mosst of the dialogue by heart. Which came in handy when we moved cross country in our station wagon when the kids were 7, 9 and 11. This part you showed here, Timon and PUmbaa, was a particular favorite!
The telenovela gag in _Encanto_ is even better than the adlid, 'cause the original lady rat actor escapes and is immediately replaced by another lady rat actor, just like has happened in literally _every_ telenovela ever. xD
Ok but in Meet the Robinson in the Spanish (Latinamerica) they say "El Puma, José Luis Rodríguez" and THAT is hilarious, they even changed the animations to fit it.
This list is exactly why I love, admire and respect voice actors more than actors we see act out on screen. All they have is their voices to tell a story and knowing that very clearly more often than not, they get chances to ad lib makes me love the voice actors and their abilities even more. This was a fun list and I'm sure there's tons more examples outside of a top 20
Hey, "Monsters, Inc." also benefited from more than one actor in the recording booth. Billy Crystal, at the start of recording, asked why he couldn't work with John Goodman there with him. They brought them in together, and…well, you see the results in the finished movie. There may not have been as many great lines in that as in some of these other movies, but I suspect they raised the movie up to another level.
How do you bring in Aladdin and not have Robin Williams as number ONE!!!! He NEVER follows a script and it is impossible for anyone to keep him on one!
Personally, I enjoyed the film from the animation tour at Disney World with Robin Williams and Walter Cronkite. Robin ends up imitating Walter as a cartoon cat reporting the news.
Surprised Disney robin hood didn't make the list, cause it was suppose to be set originally in the wild west, and a lot of the lines were adlibs since a lot of the cast were western actors. Love to see a list of adlibs in cartoons shorts and shows, there was rumer Mel blanc ad lib quite a bit. Especially as Sam.

I’m very excited for our next production and am waiting in anticipation for all the chaos that will unfold during Peter Pan.
The Cogsworth line always makes me laugh out loud
@ShatnerLover I never knew it was improv, until I saw this video, because it made so much sense for the moment.

"Whoa, it's me!"
"Prove it."
"You're a dick"
One of the best short scenes from the first Fox X-Men movie back in 2000 imo, really plays the Cyclops/Wolverine dynamic right.
Absolutely agreed. I guess he’s more of a live action ad libber.
Strange that, although he gets mentioned in passing, none of the actual top 20 go to Robin Williams. The man could have his own Top 20 list!
UA-cam MIGHT have a video of this! 😂 ❤
I definitely say "thank you for nothing, you useless (object)" all the time, AND with the same tone due to this quote!
I feel this deal so much.
Still love the " Whoah is my hair out?" Unscripted or not in Hercules, it makes me laugh every time.
Unless, of course, they pitched up ANOTHER recording of her voice and recorded her REACTING to it, then pitched THAT up.
XD
What no Ice Age or Kung Fu Panda? Ray Romano and Jack Black are the kings of Improv and I know that they both had plenty in their animated movies.
My favourite improv moment is when Whoppi Goldberg is taking about having a cub sandwhich when Simba gets stuck in the elephant graveyard
We as a family had watched "The Lion King" so much, we knew mosst of the dialogue by heart. Which came in handy when we moved cross country in our station wagon when the kids were 7, 9 and 11. This part you showed here, Timon and PUmbaa, was a particular favorite!
The telenovela gag in _Encanto_ is even better than the adlid, 'cause the original lady rat actor escapes and is immediately replaced by another lady rat actor, just like has happened in literally _every_ telenovela ever. xD
"I've fought your sister before, that's a compliment" is my favorite line to ever exist. I would be shocked if that wasn't ad-libbed.
Genie and Hades, two of my absolute favourites!
Omg I can't believe Surf's Up is in this list! It was one of my favorite movies when it came out :]
99% of Robin Williams stuff in Aladdin was ad libbed.
Wasn’t a good chunk of Monsters vs Aliens improvised?
Many of Robin Williams' improved lines in Aladdin.
Rip Robin Williams
Yes. There will never be another Genie.
@@michaeloluwajuyemi4546 agreed!
Olaf saying " I don't even know a Samantha. " was hilarious when me family and I first saw the movie because my name is Samantha
“Dress in drag and do the hula” is my favorite part of all of lion kings
Ok but in Meet the Robinson in the Spanish (Latinamerica) they say "El Puma, José Luis Rodríguez" and THAT is hilarious, they even changed the animations to fit it.
Improve is the spice that makes an animated movie memorable.
I miss Robin Williams. R.I.Paradise!!! 😇😇 And I absolutely ADORE James Woods and Tim Allen too. ❤️❤️
Robbie Williams improvised a lot on the genie more then the scripted version
The hours upon hours of recording we'll never get to hear....
Luau is the best thing in The Lion King; I mean it’s catchy and funny.
indeed
I swear the hula scene in The Lion King has rolling every time XD
#2 is my favorite scene in the movie and Iago was my favorite character in Aladdin 🤣
"Do you see the hat?! I am Mrs. Nesbitt!!"
In the french version, he says " I'm the Queen of England "
12: Looking back at my childhood, I’m mind blown
I'm just happy that my favorite disney movie made it on this list ❤
In memory of Robin Williams & Gilbert Gottfried
Haha! I never picked up on that "Achilles, heel" line from *"Hunchback."* That was some clever improv. That one comma really makes a difference.
Just listening to James Woods speak Made me realize that he voiced Hades by just existing😂
This Channel never disapints me , thanks Ms Mojo, and a happy sunday to You as well (oh, and happy holiday Season) see You soon and God bless You.
The content is all over the place
Hey, "Monsters, Inc." also benefited from more than one actor in the recording booth. Billy Crystal, at the start of recording, asked why he couldn't work with John Goodman there with him. They brought them in together, and…well, you see the results in the finished movie. There may not have been as many great lines in that as in some of these other movies, but I suspect they raised the movie up to another level.
OMFG the bad puns..
The Emperor's New Grove improvisations were hilarious 😅😂
Omg I love the part where Olaf realizes there is no Samantha that made me laugh
22:41 Hey, you said it, not him...
Especially as Sam.
i always say that Olaf saying Samantha was a nod to Samantha Barks playing elsa in the westend production of frozen even though i know its not
