@@kamsismith He had Lewy Body Dementia. There wasn't any help that would've made that go away. He did experience depression but that wasn't ultimately the reason he took his life, it was the incurable illness affecting his memory, language skills, visual perception, problem solving, ability to perform everyday tasks, ability to focus and pay attention.
There was a review of Return of Jafar that I once read that gave a picture perfect perspective of the two voice actors doing the Genie… There’s a difference between talented (Castellaneta) and gifted (Williams). So true.
Even if these particular animated movie moments are unscripted, They still played a big part in making these movies the iconic Masterpieces that we know them as today!
It was also contractual. Robin had it put in his contract that his recordings couldn't be used for promotion. That's why he didn't come back for the Aladdin series or Return of Jafar.
The improvised moments are the coolest and the actors who did it are also great. My favs are: The Genie, the hula scene never gets old for me, Olaf, Bruno in Encanto, The Hatter from Alice in Wonderland,
I think we can all agree that Robin Williams's impersonation of the Genie is gonna make the #1 spot; he is a king of impersonation of sorts, after all.

Although James Woods did a marvelous job being Hades; however, Jack Nicholson being a serious Hades in Hercules is one those "what if" moments that I would have been interested in seeing.
Same thing for Tim Curry being the voice of the Joker instead of Mark Hamill. Probably the only instant in his history when being such good a bad guy ending up LOSING him the part!
Ed Wynn was one of the actors approached to play The Wizard in the 1939 classic film The Wizard Of Oz, however, the role was too small for him. For Disney, he voiced the Mad Hatter in Alice in Wonderland (1951) and portrayed Uncle Albert in Mary Poppins (1964). Achilles Heel in Hunchback of Notre Dame, Put that thing back where it came from in Monsters Inc, the Timon and Pumbaa doing the Hula in the Lion King, Samantha in frozen 2 are among my favorites in this list that still crack me up to this day as well as the legendary antics of both the late Robin Williams as genie and Gilbert Godfrey as Iargo in Aladdin 👍❤️😂

Tigger is one of the most classic/iconic characters in Disney and fiction history. There’s just something about this bouncy tiger that gives viewers a more cheerful mood.
I see Robin, I click and I will start crying. I wish he got the help he needed. Sadly, the people who make us laugh always have unresolved inner turmoil hence the common cause of death for comedians are suicides and drug overdoses.
Not sure if you were aware, but he had Lewy body dementia (LBD). I believe he also had a Parkinson's diagnosis as well. If I recall correctly, some of those close to him believed he could not stand what was happening with his brain and he chose to go out on his own terms. Severe invisible depression is no joke (I speak from experience) and for sure he had mental health issues including depression. But the type of LBD he had and how his own brain/body was turning against him... Hard to say what my choice would be in that situation.
wait Jane Porter was Minnie Driver? the same actress of movie!PoTO La Carlotta? also just noticed Buzz Lightyear made the Vulcan salute (Kohanim blessing) after the "sad, strange little man" tbf Hades was a grave, "serious character" in the original myths, not to be messed with (e.g. the Chair of Forgetfulness punishment for Pirithoüs, when Herakles rescued his cousin Theseos during the Cerberos Labor) the only exception was with Orpheos when he pleaded for Eurydike's ressurection also didn't know Tulio & Miguel were Captain Phoebus & Gilderoy Lockhart
A wholesome Tigger story: Back when I was in college and flying home a few times per year, I used to just sit back with my iPod Video (this was '03-'07) and either doze to music or watch a movie. Save for one flight that I've always remembered. It's not that anything mind blowing happened, but rather just a simple wholesome connection that I ended up having with the dude who was sitting next to me. He looked to have probably been in his late 20s, early 30s at the oldest, and I was 21 or 22. He wasn't creepy, just friendly. I had a Tigger patch sewn on the front of my backpack that I always used as my personal item to fit under the seat. When I boarded the guy was already in his middle seat next to my window, and he got up to help me put my duffle bag in the overhead because I'm fun sized at 5'2". In the process, he saw that Tigger patch and I guess he decided to give me a little bit of a character test. As I was putting my backpack under the seat he pointed to the patch, saying "You know how to spell Tigger, right?" I blinked at him for a moment before saying "T-I-double-guh-er." "Hey, exactly!!" It was the only flight I took in those four years that I ended up chatting with my neighbor for the whole thing. Like I said, it wasn't anything eventful or earth shattering. Just nice. 🙂
I knew Aladdin would be #1. Robin Williams was sensational. It's one of my favorite movies and I was 14 when it came out but my bff and I saw it like 7 times in the theater because we loved it so much. Robin Williams was a really really special soul. There are very few people like him, and he gave us the world. He was "a diamond in the ruff".
12:37 Let's be real here, the real reason they didn't want him adlibbing to start with was racism. It's not like *The little mermaid* , a movie about a princess shutting up and falling for the first prince she meets, was some kind of artwork that needed to be played with the utmost respect. There's a lot of problematic stuff about the mermaid intercut with moments of singing songs. I'm glad someone seems to have said: "Just let him talk for once, maybe it will add some fun to this boring mess!" And it did. As a child, Sebastian was my favorite. Not necessarily the jokes, I was far too young to know what an "inch" even was. So I didn't understand any of that. But Sebastian had the best songs too! "Unda da see!" and "Kiss de gurl" were the best.
The story goes that when The Lion King had its H'wood premiere, that people were quite literally falling out of their chairs laughing. As comic relief, it was genius. I didn't think anyone could top it, until I played "Control"... but that's another listicle.
Do you ever think about how those scenes in Disney movies will play out in your head and then, all of a sudden when you're about to press play it somehow magically comes true! In addition your bursting out laughing where you've lost track of time! 😅 that's what Lion King and Aladdin have done for me. 🎉😅 #timelessness
I have raya and the last dragon. I love the movie. And the baby theif was and is adorable. And the water dragon was funny when she ate the spicy food.😮😊
Wait. Did you just take your #1 choice, an Aladdin movie, tell us there's a line that Gottfried had that made Robin Williams laugh, and THEN NOT SHOW IT?!?!?! SHAAAAAAME!!!
I love that thanks to John Leguizamo's ad lib about rat telenovelas, a Tik Tok-er named Nicque Marina ran with it created an entire series about it, lol
James Woods and Mike Myers are amazing is how entire series changed for what they brought to the table Then you had Gilbert... man oh man he could say anything and get away with it. With that slightly annoying and humorous accent he could get away with saying the most rude or racist thing if he ever wanted to and no one would take it as anything but a joke

@MsMojo, could you do a retrospective on the music of the Sherman Brothers? In memory of recently deceased Richard...
Rest in peace, Robin Williams, he really made the Genie unforgettable, and one of his most iconic roles. It's almost a decade since we lost him.

I remember reading how Aladdin caused problems with writing credits because of Robin Williams’ improv
yeah, It's because it was almost impossible for the others actors to contain their laughter at every improvised Robin Williams' joke.
It was also contractual. Robin had it put in his contract that his recordings couldn't be used for promotion. That's why he didn't come back for the Aladdin series or Return of Jafar.
It would make sense to have given him a writing credit
It was because he had improved so much that the movie was rejected for a best adapted screenplay academy award nomination
