So, apparently, she killed and stuffed the other two men, that’s probably why he recognised their names because they might have been in the newspaper for being missing persons. Also, in the actual story, he said the tea tasted a bit like almonds, and that’s kind of what poison tastes like.
I don't know what was more foolish, the landlady giving away that Mulholland and Temple were still on the third floor, or the fact that Billy Weaver didn't get that obvious red flag.
Yes, I’m here from English class. But can we please appreciate how creative Roald Dahl is? And how perfect the short film is? They got everything on point. Even “The fillings in the back of the mouth.” Everything was perfect. Great job!!!
I think it makes sense, considering they “were” guests (if you went to a restaurant that served the president, they would refer to the president in past tense), and Billy should not expect that they still are at the house. It does, however, turn suspicious when she says that they never left, which in itself is super suspicious.
It is told also on BBC TV- Talse of the unexpected... Since watched it, I became afraid to stay in Bed and Breakfast, in England... Lucky nothing happen to me, when I stayed in London for few years, and all I could afford, was is a besitter, for 3£ per week, in early 70's... Landlady's who were normal grandmother's. I lived on top floor/attic room, and had a stove and and a kettle, prepared my own tea.
@@mirahsamiyahrajwan7903 I first saw The Landlady on the BBC's Tales Of The Unexpected and I was haunted enough by it to not watch anymore of that anthology series. But it still gives me great admiration for how British TV could most uniquely flourish with horror stories.
Updated I see. I feel the urge to say that it doesn't exactly go over all of the detail. This film has him knocking on the door whereas in the original story he rings the doorbell and it states that the door was answered before he could even remove his finger from the button, which startles him. Still quite a good film.
I read Dahl's books when I was young, 1950's and that lead me to Andre Norton and Robert Heinlein and now at 73 I Live on UA-cam listening to books like The Landlady then the Algorithm sends me to This Film. Life is Wonderful!
Yup, my teacher showed us this video and I don’t know why but I’m watching it again and again. That lady is a VERY good actor. 👍 This video is really good!
Just a bit confused, cause I remembered the landlady should be 45-50 in the story…? Would it be as old as this? But overall, it’s a superior work!❤ love from English class
i swear reading the story that she is an old siren because the sign lured him in instead of the dragon hotel, and she only lets the "perfect ones" inside, as in the handsome ones.
The original short film is far superior to this version and is creepy af. The landlady was nice, crazy, seductive and terrifying all at the same time. The end was sad and terrifying even though I already read the story.
He should’ve bolted out the door when she said “Mr Mulholland WAS 17, and he WAS a tad bit shorter than you.” but claims he still lives there... if he still lived there why would she refer to him as past tense?
I enjoyed the performance but I did wish you did the whole story, especially the scene when she walks in to the other stiffs bedroom to collect her stuffing trolley and says hello.
TheGodParticle we adapted this from the original short story, I don't recall that part being in there but it sounds like a good addition, maybe that's from the play or other film versions
It was really frightening. Her suggestions about presence of the two other persons who actually visited her 2 years before has chilling effect on soul. Reference of "stuffed" cat is indirect reference of stuffed visitors who fell to her cold cruelty and murderous instincts and never proceeded to their destinations ever again.
im here for my homeschool english classes and i listen to asmr to calm my self down from stress and this is just like it its so relaxing but the story is interesting
Am I the only one who realized that the landlady first said Mulholland is not an Eton schoolboy, but a Cambridge undergrad, and then later saying that he is 17 years old? How can a Cambridge undergrad be 17 years old?????
This happened to me many years ago. l rented a room from a spinster and she came onto me. But she didn't try to kill me. My only regret is declining her advances. lt was so unexpected.
Is it weird that I've always felt, with only very minimal rewording, that the original story could be very much like that (she tries to hit on him instead of kill him)?
Who else here from English class?😂
London Rice lmao me
London Rice aye 8th grade? Cause sameee
sarah elizabeth Yesss🙄💀
London Rice haha that's funny
London Rice ayy 8th grade
so I gather everyone is here from English Class
yeah hey
yup
I read this story in English class probably like 5-7 years ago...
pink.cl0udss yes very true 😂
This randomly popped back into my head after 12 years lol.
So, apparently, she killed and stuffed the other two men, that’s probably why he recognised their names because they might have been in the newspaper for being missing persons. Also, in the actual story, he said the tea tasted a bit like almonds, and that’s kind of what poison tastes like.
Cyanide tastes like bitter almonds but it also takes 5 to 10 seconds to kill someone so it must not be that
Yea so she poisoned him and later on is gonna stuff him... Pretty messed up
Momo Diaw yeah they talked for a while
Likely cyanide
@@momodiaw305, just a short story though, not fully accurate. On a certain footnote it said it was cyanide, so we can be certain.
well if I heard the lady say that the guys are still here after two years ago I would probably call the cops lol
Hey!, Its Chris righttt
same
Indeed ! 😲😂
After you'd drunk the tea that tasted like bitter almonds - which is what cyanide tastes like as well?
I don't know what was more foolish, the landlady giving away that Mulholland and Temple were still on the third floor, or the fact that Billy Weaver didn't get that obvious red flag.

im here from eng;lish class too
Im here the English class too
Pretty sure it was 5 pounds 6 pence but everything else completely on point
😂 same
Also from English class 😂 but it is a very good story :)
In the actual setting of "The Landlady" they sadly did not have smartphones.
Right!!
I was expecting the place to be really dimmed and the landlady is 80 years old
@@fid.firdhaus 50 something I think
Its an adaptation. So it is not exact to exact as the original
The story took place in the Victorian Era
the guy is fed cyanide and dies because the tea tastes like bitter almonds
Leland Smith Yes than he get stuffed. Read my mini comic if you want!
Leland Smith its actually arsenic but yea still poison
I heard it was cyanide.
Hdj1101 it's cyanide because "bitter almonds" is the exact taste that discribes cyanide.
Leland Smith yeah
she used the words 'was' when describing mr temple, dead giveaway that she was talking of him in past-tense. red flag
That's how the McCain's talk about their missing daughter as well.
I think it makes sense, considering they “were” guests (if you went to a restaurant that served the president, they would refer to the president in past tense), and Billy should not expect that they still are at the house. @@jollyspices9792 good point actually
he missed so many red flags
The second she opened that door that fast I would’ve been gone lol
I wish it was more like “old-school” like with no technology and whatever. That’s the vibe I get, but still was a great short film. Well done. 👏🏻
Honestly, just remove the iphones and it's pretty much correct. They're the only major glare of modernness.
There is an actual Roald Dahl version of this in video
@@serenatimberlake4101 Not in this one.
The modern touch makes it more relatable though.
If you want an old school version try out Roald Dahls Tales of the Unexpected - The Landlady, it was written and directed by Roald in 1977!
We read this at school today and my class loved it I want to know if he escaped or if she stuffed him😱
Space Blossoms she stuffed him
Watch tales of the unexpected series the landlady it’s scarier and she stuffs him in it
The tea tasted like bitter almonds because there's cyanide in it. He died of poisoning and she stuffed him like the other two.
Space Blossomz YAH SAME
tea had cyanide in it, he dies and gets stuffed
this is one occasion where it's mandatory to spill the tea
This is a superb retelling of one of the most chilling anthology episodes I ever saw. 👏🏻👏🏼👏🏽👏🏾👏🏿

we just read this story in class
she slipped poison in his tea
It's most likely cyanide, because of the bitter, almond-y taste.
and then she stuffed him I think she was a necrophiliac
Sir Crumplenose, The Almighty I thought she just really liked taxidermy
Thanks
Bitter almond
Wow she’s a cougar, and a creepy one at that, the way she’s flirting with him unceasingly
She taxidermied people.
It was because she wanted to gain his trust, then kill and taxidermy him.
