It was lighthearted at the beginning but as her depression got worse, she began to feel guilty about hiding from his husband and writing this all the while believing that she was a burden to him The shadow. The shadow depicts all the things she left because of her husband. The shadow of the woman keeps wanting to go out of the wallpapers. The woman actually is herself who wants to get out of the small room where John has kept her because he said she cannot go anywhere except that place. The shadow wants to do everything she isn't allowed to do. But the thing is .. the lady finds herself in a state of predicament Whether she should go out and stop doing what John tells her to or she should believe him and do whatever he tells her to. Finally, she wants to stop being a shadow and so she starts to peel off the paper. She starts to remove the barrier John had created for her. And then she lets the woman escapes. Now seeing at the end... She says "you and Jane couldn't stop me" Actually... Jane is her name. Jane was stopping her to do everything and believe in whatever his husband said. She has finally gotten out of her shadow. She kills her husband, probably, marking that she has finally become herself, the shadow and her. One.
i love this! a much better representation of the original story than some of the other film adaptations i’ve seen, really nails the ending the way it should have
It's good!! But I would've preferred more reference to the unreliable narrator. In the book it's super interesting because she mentions comments about scratches on walls and floorboards and metal rings in walls and she thinks someone else ruined the floor (it's clearly unreliable because it's meant to be her lack of awareness in psychosis) but here we don't see those.
I was specifically looking for a reenactment of the ending, when she mentioned the groove for her shoulder and this was perfect! I’m ver satisfied with this movie- lovely! 💕👍🙌

I understand it to be a short film with low budget, so I am not surprised you didn’t focus on the slow creeping insanity of it, or the main character’s (Jane, perhaps?) complex thoughts and showed only the outside view

Someone told me it's from the episode " something in the walls" from the twilight zone 80's but I'm not sure. Jane is John's sister, the house manager. Not the shadow. The shadow is a reflection of herself being confined in the house.
