After 60 years, I’ve always remembered two things from this episode - the shadow of her hitting her husband with the frozen leg of lamb, and the shot of the empty dishes after the cops have unknowingly consumed the murder weapon.
Me too
Read this in AP 7th ELA it was alright
and her evil laughter... 😰
Ditto, i was a kid at the time and remember the line about the evidence being right under our noses, while they’re eating the roasted leg of lamb, and the sly smile she affected. It was my mom’s 🙏 favorite episode too.
They took it off of Alfred Hitchcock presents I wonder why
Just a hint of his adultery sets the stage perfectly. What a fabulous script, and acting. My favorite.
well its the short story written by roald dahl
@@nates2036 It's the ACTING. The set. The voices. And the director.
@@thomashogan4908 he said script but i agree with what you said i think this is one of hitchcock's best
shes so adorable, the actor i mean but also the characteristics and writing of course. i just love how shaped her face is, the way her hair frames it, she almost looks like a drawing the way her features are so defined.
All the questioning about 'doesn't your husband take ice in his drink? Does he always get a drink before dinner? Means that this now dead husband's coworkers KNEW this corpse was fooling around on his wife & ready to dump her. So the keen skill it took to take all this questioning in stride & not reveal the truth was sheer genius of this woman. She's looking out for her child & herself.
Alfred Hitchcock was a firm believer in never letting any type of crime pay. At the end of the story, he related how the woman ultimately went to prison when she tried the same tactic on her second husband. (She had simply grown tired of him). However, she forgot to turn the freezer on, and the meat was very soft. Her husband put two and two together and had her arrested. The moral was that the woman, having gotten away with one murder, became arrogant and nasty. Besides, hadn't she ever heard of alimony?
@@nassauguy48 I have a feeling Roald Dahl would disagree with that!
She was so nurturing and kind. "He just seemed terribly tired." Such a motherly voice. I hope the policeman's dog enjoyed the bone.
“Kind”
Lmao
That phrase was quite literal. I love the evil laugh she makes at the end.
Hitchcock didn't believe in bad guys getting away with it, so he went on to explain that she tried doing the same thing to her second husband, not knowing that he defrosted the freezer,so she hit him with a defrosted leg. She went down for murder and attempted murder.
Cute little evil laugh
"The murder weapon is right under our noses!" 😁😁😁😁If they only knew!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Oh I sooo remember THIS ONE! The lamb leg they happily consumed...sooo perfect. Not unlike the one where the victim is stabbed with an icicle..which melts.
"Lamb To The Slaughter"; the greatest episode of the entire series. And deservingly so. Barbara Bel Geddes' performance was
incredibly mesmerizing. Truly, a standout.
A Masterful Performance of this Episode!!
I agree 100% the best
Based on a short story by Roald Dahl!!!!!
We watched this at school, and while discussing the theme, we came up with something accurate :
"*Don't mess your woman. You definitely won't know what she's got for you in return....*"
I LOVE THIS ONE IT'S SO 🤌🤩💀
THIS is why Jock knew better than to cheat on Miss Ellie - LOL!
One of my favorite. My mother had Barbara Bel Geddes as a patient many year ago (my mom was a nurse) and Bel Geddes said this was the best roll she ever had!!!!!
This is one of the best episodes. I laughed when the cop said, "For all we know, it could right under our noses" lol and then that cute devilish smile of hers, great acting. 😅👍👍🐑🥩
Roald Dahl wrote so much more than children's stories.
Indeed. Crazy crazy stuff. I loved this one. Frozen leg of lamb. Later served for dinner.
I had to scroll way too far to see someone mention that this is a Roald Dahl story!!
I think this guy playing this Detective, that is asking her questions is a great actor!
Harold J. Stone. He certainly was, played lots of different roles.
The detectives and police are eating the evidence.
@@johnbockelie3899 Aiding the perpetrator and defeating their purpose without even knowing it, and enjoying it as they do, no less! That's why it's such a great story.
Yes he is a great actor, but oh my, what a nose. One might say that he has a good nose for detection. 👃👃👃😂😂😂And if anyone didn’t get the drift of what happened. He was murdered with the frozen leg of lamb. And so the detective and the police ate the evidence and the dog finished it off when he ate the bone. 🐶🐶🐶🍖🍖🍖😂😂😂
Yes. He was in quite a few AHP episodes
Freshman year 2019 our teacher showed us this act for an assignment an ever since then, I always remember how creative this really is an how smart they played the parts it’s all genius
I always remember my social studies teacher telling us this story in seventh grade and never gave Hitchcock any credit!
Adapted from a story by Roald Dahl, as were a few other Hitchcock episodes.
I thought was a true story.p!! I was a little girl when I was learned of it! I used to think ‘My that lady was smart.’ 😄
My mom told me about this episode years ago-I could tell mom got quite a kick out of the twist ending
@@ronmackinnon9374
Dahl could be pretty twisted in a great way, and that's a Hitchcock trademark. Setting things up so we're on the murderers side and the suspense is in hoping they don't get caught is very typical.
This is the best episode of the series. I saw this as a little kid and never forgot it.
I'm mad I can't watch the entire episode.
@@trawlins396 I wish I could watch it again too. Her face and demeanor are so innocent.
@@solemandd67 almost all of the episodes are on Peacock. Except this one. 😡
I really liked her voice, it was soothing, warm and cozy, also really enjoyed her great acting talent.❤🙋♀️
Her voice certainly was soothing, warm & cozy (well-chosen adjectives) - which made the deviousness of the character all the more delectable.
@@martenselabs3212 delectable 💀💀💀
No they cut off the end gag! Hitchcock said something like: “she tried to do in her second husband the same way- but the meat had thawed.”
I think it's better without. She's not a serial killer in the original story - she's reacted spontaneously in anger to her husband's behaviour, grieves terribly, but hides the crime to protect her baby, and gets away with it. It seems out of character for her to do it again. I guess maybe in the 50s, the censors felt she shouldn't get away with it, so they added a bit where she's caught.
This is one of my absolute FAVORITE episodes. “Columbo” would have figured it out🙂
LOL, Sabrina. Yes, he would!
Alfred Hitchcock and colombo 2 great classics 👌 👏 👍 🙌 ❤️
True they literally eating the evidence
This is one of my Top 5 favorite Hitchcock presents episodes.
Me too. It's typical of Hitchcock that you end up rooting for the one who committed the crime.
I clicked so quick when I saw the thumbnail. This episode always had me cracking up at the end. I would laugh my head off with her. And she was always one of my favorite old school actresses.
Mine too. Ironically it was the first episode of Alfred Hitchcock I ever watched, and none could beat it. The line,"As far as we know the murder weapon could be right under our noses." 😄😄😄Has a lot to do with it.
I remember this when I was a kid…best episode..
I remember this like it was yesterday! I was just a kid and still got it. The irony... fabulous.
A great episode 'Lamb to the slaughter ' written by the great Roald Dahl' I have seen other versions of the story and this by Alfred Hitchcock is by far the superior
I remember seeing a British version which is now up on You Tube, and, yes, it is not quite as good as this one.
@@nassauguy48 Doesn't even come close.
Completely disagree - I think the British version is the better of the two, but this one is good as well.
Fantastic episode! On an unrelated note, I love Barbara Bel Geddes' voice. Yes, I know that sounds weird. No, I don't quite know why. I suppose I find it kind of soothing.
The human voice is a powerful instrument why something resonates with you it just does.
So do I.
I thought, I was the only person who thought that about “BARBARA BEL GEDDES’s”voice!!! Back in the day when “DALLAS” was the big hit on tv, I use to crack-up my sister by saying “J-R!” Like mama Ewing😆 Small world🙂
Her voice is rather soothing.
I liked it too!
We just read this book in my language arts class, absolutely loved it
same i was so invested
Mine too! Only a woman could appreciate this one.
My favorite Alfred Hitchcock play. Brilliant.
I was just thinking about this episode, but couldn't remember the name of it. Always liked this one because of its devious innocence, to coin an oxymoron.
This is one of my favorite episodes of Alfred Hitchcock Presents.
Barbara bel Geddes, Hitchcock favorite actress
This episode was from 1958, same year she played Jimmy Stewart's helper in 'Vertigo.'
…the Mom on ‘DALLAS”. I always thought she seemed spacey, like she’s on drugs.
Vera Miles was also Hitchcock's favorite actress, too. From Ms. Harper Stacey.
This has always been one of my favs. It was fun to see it again.
I love these old Hitchcock stories When I was young I read his short stories and enjoyed them.
Oh the man was begging for it.
This case deserves an acquittal.
I’m 61. I don’t recall watching this but I read the exact same scenario. Does anyone else recall this?
Yes
It’s originally a short story by Roald Dahl called Lamb to the Slaughter
The acting in this episode is brilliant.
This is my favourate episode. BRILLANT. Thank you so much. ⚘🤗⚘🤗⚘🤗⚘🤗
They didn’t show this from the beginning. Where is the scene of her hitting her husband with frozen lamb leg?
Yeah idk why they didn’t just upload the whole movie.
Lamb to the Slaughter. It's on tonight at 1800hrs, 6pm. On The Sky Arts Channel. It's series 3 episode 28. If you miss it it's on again tomorrow morning. She's brilliant. Enjoy ✝️
This is one of my favorites!
This story was in my class xi english course book way back in eighty four I think. So thrilling.
These two guys are so brilliant, lol.😂🤣let’s eat the weapon. 🤣🤣
What an incredible actress !
Barbara bel geddes played Miss Ellie on the TV show, Dallas. From Ms. Harper Stacey.
Watch this year's ago..and it still gets me.. I remember it well.
One of my favorite Hitchcock episodes!!!
Love this episode! It's brilliant. It would be nice to see the episode from start to finish.
The only one of these that I still laugh about and have never forgotten!!
This is my favorite!
I enjoyed. Thanks!
"Lamb To The Slaughter" and "The Way Up to Heaven" are great Hitchcock episodes.
It's based on a Roald Dahl short story of the same name. ❤️
Dahl was a great writer.
We had this short story in our english syllabus back in school. Kind of crazy now that i think about it. Was one of my favourite ones!
I knew she looked familiar..Ellie mae Ewing from the hit series Dallas!
Best episode of all!
This was one of my favorite episodes, "Bang You're Dead" was great also!
Brilliant version as is the Susan George remake.
Yes, I adore the Susan George version, but this one is good too.
@@Silver_Owl Yes it it is.
This was one of my favorites!!
Great
I wish I could see the full Lamb to the Slaughter. 1958
I loved AHP. The whole series- awesome, addictive. Some of the best writing. This was easily one of my top 5 favorite episodes, so clever. What's funny is I think this episode was adapted from a story by Roald Dahl, who became more well-known for his books geared towards kids, haha! But when you combine this story and AH's direction, and we can't forget Barbara Bel Geddes' masterful performance, you end up with an amazing bit of TV!
love it.
I liked Harold J. Stone better as an outlaw with an attitude on Gunsmoke.
Where can I find the full episode?
This is my fave!
One of my favorite episodes ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ when the officer said" he sure missed a good meal"😱
Where is the beginning of the show? How come you never show all of it!!!!
They’re like classic trailers. I actually enjoy them. If you want to see the rest all you got to do is look it up.
Where is the first part of this program?
Does anyone know why this episode is unavailable on literally all the streaming services? I'm surprised you guys got an excerpt.
Were Barbara Bel Geddes and Hitch an item? Maybe in secret? She was his type, and she appeared in quite a few episodes.
Where is the full episode??
Give full episodes please
Have you searched for them through this particular channel under videos? Or elsewhere on UA-cam? You have to help yourself. The videos are not full ones because of copyright reasons. However, all if not most, are on this channel.
Mrs Maloney resembles Pat Hitchcock. First thing I thought when I saw the cooked chicken (later see it's leg of lamb) was, "There's the murder weapon." By the end I'll know. And YES, the smile reveals it when he says, "It might be right under our noses."
It’s not chicken; it’s a leg of lamb. And it was frozen solid when she hit her late husband with it and killed him.
@@hebneh Thank you.
Read this book in tenth grade and IM IN COLLEGE NOW AND STILL REMEMBER THIS😂
I watched this at school it scared me at first
How can I find full movie?
Were reading about "lamb of the slaughter" in class so I came here to see the thing as a show.
Does anyone know where I can get a copy of the whole movie.
This was my father's favorite episode.
Good one, they ate the murder weapon. How about using a big piece of ice and then let it melt?
nice
There’s an excellent reading of the original story by Catherine OHara on NPR’s selected shorts.
The UK Show Tales Of The Unexpected did a version of this story, that is rather good too
The Tales of the Unexpected version was wonderful. Yes, this one is good as well.
I just realized that Mike, the assistant to the lead detective, played the sheriff in the magnificent motion picture masterpiece “Attack of the Giant Leeches”.
Miss Ellie!
She's so sweet.
Good actress love your acting Barbara.
And the inspector did not notice the meat does not have salt, spice, or any seasoning?
What show is this?
Oh that's my favorite
i knew it! i KNEW IT!!! LOL
Alfred Hitchcock presents is on the xumo channel. Oddly this episode is missing from it. It is listed as episode 28 season 3 and when it comes to it it skips over to episode 29. Not sure why
That was directly taken from a short story by Roald Dahl called “A Leg of Lamb” Not to complain
And of course they don't have this episode on Peacock.
Always remember this from tales of the unexpected never knew this was first
Try to get the story. It is very good.
Here from my English class lesson! 🙋♀️🙋♀️
Is there a reason why this episode is not on Peacock?
I remember watching this in school
Clever episode, and they all ate the evidence.
Wow
