I think that Goeth knows exactly what Schindler is doing, he laughs in this scene because to him Schindler is only prolonging the inevitable. To Goeth they are all going to the same place, so it’s amusing to him the great lengths that Schindler goes to care for them. Really superb acting and writing, every time I return to this film I am moved and shocked.
Absolutely not the case, in my opinion. If Göth suspected that Schindler actually cared about Jews, he'd either report him or kill him himself. I read the scene at face value, he thinks that Schindler is having fun, either through giving them false hope or watching them desperately scramble to drink. That's the only reason Göth could think of why a fellow Nazi would do this, but he realizes he was wrong when he sees Schindler going through so much effort to make sure they all get enough. He may not know exactly why Schindler is doing it, but he seems annoyed nonetheless.

Amazing film, even the colour of the suits were thought out. Schindler and Julius Madritsch both in white whereas the other members are in dark. Good and evil
I have 2 different theories here regarding what Goeth is thinking here: i think he's pondering Schindler's motives, but he's guessed that Schindler (who has exquisite tastes in alcohol and suits etc) is trying to keep the workers healthy so they will perform better in his factorys and keep making him more money! He thinks Schindler is obsessed by money, which he really was until he started growing a conscience He cannot comprehend he is doing it as he pitys them, so that's the only possible conclusion is that Schlinder is indeed a money greedy businessman. obsessed in protecting his assets. The other theory, a lot weaker is that Goeth is developing an obsession for the jewish servant girl he has as his personal servant, and the ONLY person who possibly relates to this is Schindler, he feels a strange kinda empathy with a guy he really admires, Schindler too has developed a strange and forbidden bond with the jews. Outing Schindler for it would be outing himself and he's at odds on how to feel and deal with the entire situation
Goeth is evil and terrifying, so I’m always really scared of him more than Darth Vader or Sauron, because what we see him do really happened. But this scene in particular scares me a lot, because we know of Goeth’s capabilities, and now he realizes who Schindler really is behind that Swastika-marked button. The tension rises making it hard to watch because in the beginning he’s completely oblivious but realizes very slowly what’s happening right in front of him. It beautiful and horrifying at the same time. Ralph Fiennes will always remain the greatest actor for a villain of all time, in my opinion.
Actually, stuffing them in a hot train and shipping them off to certain death increases their suffering more than a drink of water. I know it's counter-intuitive, but trust me, most people would prefer not to be thirsty in any circumstance.
Then comes the Gestapo for Schindler. This scene was really scary. Schindler was arrested 3 times by the Gestapo and if it weren't for his connections that he had with high rank officials in the Abwehr and SS Police he more than likely would have wound up perishing in Auschwitz like those who he saved. What an incredible and good man. Remember Oskar Schindler!!
‘’I am not saying you will regret it but you might… alright it’s a nice day I’ll go for a drive with you” …3:22…cool knowing he is being arrested by the gestapo . What presence and confidence.
He smiles and jokes when he turns his head towards the ones in military uniform, but has a face of urgency when he looks to the people in the carts and directs the man to hoes them down with water. Definition of a sheep dog in wolves clothing. Or maybe even a Shepard, so to speak.
This is undoubtedly one of the most important films ever created. But I also wish a film about the gulag archipelago was created detailing events such as this one did with the holocaust with such cinematic intensity.
To someone doesn't know why Schindler did that: The weather was hot, and air was very hot in the train. So many Jews in the train almost couldn't breathe because of the hot air. Schindler just spread the water to them to make them more comfortable.
What's interesting is that Ralph continually shows through the film that he respects, and even at times emulates Liam. Look at 0:14 how happy he is to see him, then when they sit down, how he is looking at him. Liam takes off his hat, Ralph copies. However, despite this, Ralph never understands him. But is perplexed by him.

I don’t know how oscar Schindler was throughout, but from the acting by Liam it seemed that this was the actual moment where he transformed into a human being from being a nazi
From the movie, I think that when he first saw the girl in the red coat, was when something started to spark up within him; and then the moment he saw her dead in the cart, he knew something really needed to be done. He made the same face for both scenes. Like you can see the realisation hitting him properly for the first time. In real life, it would’ve been gradual of course. Not that it wasn’t gradual in the film, that’s the whole part of his character development. But it separates each time there’s a change within him, to make it clearer for the audience
Film quote: Oskar Schindler : The day must come when all of this has to end here ! I wanted to suggest that we have a drink 🥃 ? Itzahk Stern: I think I prefer to drink now ... So Sad 😔😔😔
34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you whom my Father has blessed, take your inheritance, the Kingdom prepared for you from the founding of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you made me your guest, 36 I needed clothes and you provided them, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.’ 37 Then the people who have done what God wants will reply, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and make you our guest, or needing clothes and provide them? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison, and visit you?’ 40 The King will say to them, ‘Yes! I tell you that whenever you did these things for one of the least important of these brothers of mine, you did them for me!’ Matthew 25:35-40
Thats the greatest gift of the internet age. All of this nonsense was kept from people, it was out of sight far away in the middle of germany. Today, it would be exposed immediately via twitter and there would be no escape for those obviously culpable. There is no more hiding events like this and that is a good thing.
Posting things on twitter actually does sweet fuck all if the people committing atrocities aren't under anyone's jurisdiction. Putin is still alive and well.
I'm not so sure. I haven't seen any reports about the terrible atrocities in Congo or Burma this whole year of 2023, yet both wars are still continuing and just as bloody. Around 20000 Ukrainian children have been deported to who knows where within russia and over 1 million Uighur Muslims are currently in Chinese prison camps. Just as then, most people seem to prefer to look the other way. I only hope that the Internet will make gathering evidence easier for legal justice later, and that until then individuals will choose to do the right thing and save people, even as we apparently can't collectively. Schindler reminds us that just one person can make a huge difference for good 😢🙏
Ralph's relentless focus made this happen It must have taken a toll on him I swear he must hv paid a ton on therapy to get outta character or God alone knows what Hope he was paid a bundle for this role.
My parent's friends are kids of two of Schindler's kids. They told me about this exactly. Schindler said to the Nazi officers near the train that they smell really bad and they should "wash" them. Amon Goeth’s role is played so well
I know Right
I have 2 different theories here regarding what Goeth is thinking here:
i think he's pondering Schindler's motives, but he's guessed that Schindler (who has exquisite tastes in alcohol and suits etc) is trying to keep the workers healthy so they will perform better in his factorys and keep making him more money! He thinks Schindler is obsessed by money, which he really was until he started growing a conscience
He cannot comprehend he is doing it as he pitys them, so that's the only possible conclusion is that Schlinder is indeed a money greedy businessman. obsessed in protecting his assets.
They stop laughing........... What a kind man Schindler was
I think they were either thinking "You've got serious OCD issues" or they genuinely thought "Man, you really ARE evil."
"You shouldn't do it, that's cruel"
Me:- "Look who's talking?"
It's like a meeting of Netanyahu's cabinet :(
Goeth is evil and terrifying, so I’m always really scared of him more than Darth Vader or Sauron, because what we see him do really happened.
Hope is the worst form of evil for it prolongs the suffering of man - Nietzsche
Actually, stuffing them in a hot train and shipping them off to certain death increases their suffering more than a drink of water. I know it's counter-intuitive, but trust me, most people would prefer not to be thirsty in any circumstance.
Hope is a good thing maybe the best of things and no good thing ever dies - andy Dufrence
To be perfectly honest, fuck Nietzsche...
From someone with psoriasis at 24 I can agree with that
And Nietzsche has a heck of a lot to answer for. He tried, but his ethic made him insane. And what did we get?
Amons change of expression, as well as all of the officers, is good.
I don’t know what Spielberg was on at his time but this film was peak brilliance.
I hope people remember that this movie is a historical fiction. Unfortunately some in the comments think this is real.
schindler was a real person and he did go to jail 3 times but got out due to his connections

“Oskar seriously, cut it out, our gas bill is already out of this world, the least we could do is try and clamp down on the water bill a tid bit.“
Schindler would have never been sent to a concentration camp or death camp.. but he would have definitely been legally punished by the Nazi Party
‘’I am not saying you will regret it but you might… alright it’s a nice day I’ll go for a drive with you” …3:22…cool knowing he is being arrested by the gestapo . What presence and confidence.
RIP Oskar Schindler. Save one man you save the world.
Forget the Nazis, look at the beautiful dog in the background.

I love Great Danes. They're so big but so gentle.
A Great Dane! They are majestic no doubt!🐕💪
Hate to burst the beautiful dog picture but that was probably Amon's dog which he trained to rip people apart and attack people.
Beautiful dog
Not a cell phone in sight...just two guys enjoyng the summer heat
He smiles and jokes when he turns his head towards the ones in military uniform, but has a face of urgency when he looks to the people in the carts and directs the man to hoes them down with water.

This is undoubtedly one of the most important films ever created.
But I also wish a film about the gulag archipelago was created detailing events such as this one did with the holocaust with such cinematic intensity.
To someone doesn't know why Schindler did that:
The weather was hot, and air was very hot in the train. So many Jews in the train almost couldn't breathe because of the hot air. Schindler just spread the water to them to make them more comfortable.
Holy shit I thought this video was about funny cats.
I just thought that Schindler thought that the Train was filthy and wanted to clean it with a garden hose.
You're all wrong. The trains were actually on fire. Even the German who was eating confirms this.
World Difference No shit dude.I thought he did for the lolz
Yes indeed
“You’re giving them hope. You shouldn’t do that!”
It takes a very special man to be praised and loved by two opposite sides in such a war, simply amaizing
I agree with Amon, he did give them hope. They had no clue about the horrors to come.
Goeths haircut is proving to be very popular these days.

The friendship between an angel and a devil.
What's really creepy about the 'Where's the fire?' line is that all of those people would wind up burning in the end.
This is a beautiful dog
Don't forget Gaza, no water!!!

Spielberg directed a masterpiece.
I always wonder in this scene whether Goeth is wondering why Schindler is doing this or just realizing what are his real intentions.
Goeth knew the score and fully aware. Ruthless but yet wise enough to know that Schindler was his meal ticket .
I have seen this movie once. It is clearly a masterpiece; a work of sublime cinematic and historical artistry. I hope to never see it again. It documents horrors and atrocities that make me ashamed to be a human being. I can't stand it.

1:10 a very subtle dose of irony from Spielberg, one of the Nazis asks "where's the fire." Over his shoulder, a train car is labeled Dresden. Dresden was the site of a significant firebombing in February 1945.

Schön das er deutsche als Monster darstellt, was als Jude nicht verwunderlich ist. Und niemand weiß, warum Juden damals nicht gemocht wurden.
This scene is brilliant
In an hour of such darkness lies such one bright hope of humanity and compassion.
Just noticed one of the officers sat next to amon is "reolheder" from the 1993 stalingrad film. Personally thought that was interesting as I love the film😂
"Where's the fire?'
Ben Kingsley, realizing that Schindler is saving everybody from the heat is priceless!
One of the best movies based on a novel.
I bet it’s the joo’s fault you’re chubby and poor.
Amon knew what he was doing, but I think it brought out his own shame, which is why he says nothing.
"Your cruel"
Me"You'd know about that. Wouldn't you mate"
This is not a fiction film. This is a docudrama!
How he kept his cool knowing he was in the lions den, a man of such compassion no wonder the Jews honoured him, would we be the same in his shoes?
Whenever i see it i got Goosebumps tears 😢 at the same time...

I feel like that might have made a worse situation for the prisoners in the long run. Once the water warms up, it'll get incredibly hot _and_ humid.
He’s literally using his gift to negotiate and managing to save these people lives with a smile on his face.
Schindler didn't mean to be humanitarian but had a heart for humanity.
It took Goath a few minutes to realize what Oskar was really doing, Humanity
"Where's the fire?" Haha. I dig it.
