His potrayal of Amon Goeth has to be Ralph Fiennes’ BEST acting work ever in cinema history! Every time I watch this movie and I see this evil character it sent chills down my spine. Phenomenal acting, by both Fiennes and Neeson 👏
Ralph is exceptional at playing the psychopath. Goeth, Dolahyde and Voldemort. He is terrifying at playing the villain. He is in the very top tier of actors in history as far as I’m concerned.
the actor is charismatic, I'm sure Goeth himself was charismatic too but not as its shown here... afterall he was an egotistical man and egotistical people aren't really charismatic... Schindler was charismatic tho! Because he charmed people by caring about them. Simple.
The real guy was charismatic enough that one of Schindler's female employees fell deeply in love with him for life. But not charismatic enough for the SS who arrested him for taking things too far. The SS...
In real life he looked at least like a Redneck. And I find strange that he was just an _Untersturmführer_ with so much authority, this is less than Lieutenant.
Did he not get the oscar? Bloody brilliant casting and performance. He was so young then, Ralph, and he continues to be an amazing and versatile talent. One of a kind. And a very kind person, it seems.
When survivor Mila Pfefferberg was introduced to Ralph Fiennes on the set, she began shaking uncontrollably, as he reminded her too much of the real Amon Göth.
I recall hearing RF say that while they were filming he initially had a hard time getting people to eat lunch with him in the canteen. Poor guy! But he and Liam Neeson became quite good friends from the experience.
Austria is hardly foreign to Germany, speaking practically. They are side by side geographically, where borders fluctuated and countries overlapped, with names changing over the centuries. Historically, Austrians were regarded as Germans and viewed themselves as such. Austria was part of the Holy Roman Empire and the German Confederation until the Austro-Prussian War in 1866. By the time Hitler was born, the Austrian and German people had been politically and culturally tied for over a thousand years. Yes, by literal definition Austria is ‘outside the door’ of Germany - but the lines drawn on maps often have little to do with what is or is not truly foreign. Just my take.
Note that if the actor was impressive and has charisma, the actual guy Amon Goeth was also probably very charismatic as well. The picture you often see of him, the mugshot, was the guy at his worse. But he was very tall, 1.97m or around 6.7' and him being a psychopath must have made him even more charismatic. So Ralph Fiennes was perfect for the role and did a fantastic performance. If you want to have an even better realistic experience, listen to the German version (for those who understand german language obviously) Edit: Sorry for the bad English. It's not my language.

Wow what a psychopath. Very very well acted. The only other actor who i think could have projected the sheer terror and psychopathy that came with the role is Christian Bale. He's just so nazi with this role. My father grew up during the nazi occupation he hates the Germans.I can see why. I don't think it's right though to paint a whole nation with the same brush. The nazi element is still very much prevalent in today's times. Let's hope we don't have another world war.
