- China Launches World's First Dedicated Drone Carrier
China has reportedly constructed the world's first "dedicated" drone carrier. The report by Naval News is based on satellite imagery and expert analysis. Satellite imagery from Jiangsu Dayang shipyard revealed the existence of a new drone carrier. This mystery vessel was reportedly launched in December 2022 but was only recently disclosed. The vessel's deck boasts a smaller size, approximately one-third the length and half the width of a supercarrier. The vessel cannot handle simultaneous aircraft takeoff and landing. Despite these limitations, the carrier can accommodate fixed-wing aircraft or drones with wingspans up to 20 meters (66 feet). The latest drone carrier's launch comes at a time when Beijing and Washington are at loggerheads over Taiwan and the growing Chinese presence in the South China Sea.
