I love how he's honest but also humble enough to not entirely bury wrestlers (even those he doesn't even really like). I respect Shane
one of the best promos and mouthpieces of all time. it's a downright crime he hasn't been a manager for the past 15 years.
Shane might be the most articulate guy in the business....so impressed with every interview he does.
Funny considering the only way he got over was saying fuck every other word .

One of the greatest qualities about Shane Douglas is his honesty. The guy has been doing shoots for a long time and I was lucky enough to meet him in-
person at NY WrestleCon, and every single time he tells or re-tells a story from the past there’s literally never any changes to his story. A lot of guys have constantly-changing stories that update with new details over time but Shane always has things down to the details and always sticks to the same facts which I find to be very cool.
Anyone can steal material. Try making it a hit.

I remember back in 99 my buddy and I both said HHH was ripping off the Franchise. Even that leather hat thing. The only thing missing was the F bombs

@@Redhotshawntexas Those are two different things.
And unfortunately for Shane Douglas stans, MULTIPLE guys had Harley caps they wore backwards in the 90s. DOA, HBK, Beefcake, Undertaker, et al. Some wore them backstage, on the road, some wore them on TV in the background in between other characters while in the background, others in plain sight.
Same deal with Jorts. Austin, HHH, the Outlaws, Xpac, et al all wore them in the late 90s/early 00s too.
It was a staple in men's fashion.
I Found Triple h's alt account 😂@@Speedyreedy1218He totally ripped Shane off and never gave him credit. But that's what wwe did to ecw. Come on now and I'm a triple h fan and have that book in your profile too.

If you walk in a room and see Raven and Shane throwing around $20 words....RUN.
Facts. Scotty is smart af too. 😂
Steve Austin has some Stan Hansen and Terry Funk in his character as well.
Fact: The attitude era started with ECW and when the winds blew strong enough wwe was smart enough to put up their sails.
Attitude Era started with WCW and the NWO era.
Nope started with the NWO plain and simple. Ecw never factored in if we are being honest they where a cool alternative at the time.
@@jabronisauce6833 Yep. Didn't even know ECW existed until late 1999. Other than that, it was always WCW and WWE.

And 1999 barely was the real ecw anymore.
FINALLY- we get to hear Troy's take on the blatant Franchise RIP OFF that is "hhh". Troy is a class act, being more than humble here in his assessment of the trips travesty. Trips verbatim stealing of The Franchies's infamous ppv promo, his kango, & almost everything else that The Franchise made famous, shows a complete lack of creativity & originality on Paul's part. Everyone knows that trips got to where he is by riding the coattails of his peers & sleeping his way to the top. Any version of the Triple Threat was better than 10 versions of a "hhh" led DX, & DX SUCKED
Alot of people thought this back in the late 90s and yeah, I agree. "The game" is just "the franchise" toned down. Shane's mic work was top notch back then.
He's certainly diplomatic about the theft of his gimmick!
Not really lmfao so any nickname that begins with "The" is a blatant rip off then lmfao get out.
@@jabronisauce6833 Actually, yes, a. LOT of people noticed the changes to Triple H's gimmick and if you listened to the video Shane even cited an instance when Triple H swiped one of Shane's promos!

WWE stole a lot of stuff from ECW
No question about it. That's most of Russo booking was stealing from ECW
Yes....Sandman-was-downing-brews-before-Stone-Cold
Really, bc they had a handshake deal for a few years which is why the Rob Vam Dam Mr. Monday Night stuff and the Jerry Lawler promos on ECW were happening.
Eh 80s guns n roses is basically a rip off of Australian band rose tattoo. They even covered rose tattoo. Yet I’ll guarantee no Americans are out there claiming gnr are unoriginal because gnr went global the Tatts on the other hand dominate australia and have cultish followings in Europe and America. Hell gnr’s version of knocking on heavens door is eerily similar to the 1970s version performed by Australian band cold chisel. Again no one talks about it because gnr is global and chisel ain’t. All this really points to is, it’s not stealing if you’re more successful with it.
@@troystaunton254 this post is about wrestling not music
I love Shane's interviews. Glad someone brought this up. I was watching old Triple H clips and it was so obvious he knocked off Shane's look and promo style in ECW.
HHH even stole Shane’s it’s my belt promo verbatim!
Need to track down those promos
@@bryanmack4054 Shane or HHH? Shane he was sitting in a dressing room next to Francine
Hogan said that to Randy Savage back in 1989. Oops.
Triple Schnoz was never known for his creativity ever in his career.
I haven’t listened to the video yet but I been telling ppl this for years that HHH ripped off Shane Douglas gimmick. If u was a ECW fan in 94, 95 and 97 a lot of things Shane used to say in his great promos HHH started saying. Like “I’m just that damn good”. Shane was saying that in early 95 in ECW while HHH bowing trying to be a Blue Blood 😁
Hunter's mentor was William Regal. No shame in that
Wow, so many times I've watched clips of Shane from his ECW days and noticed the hat, the similar look, the rhetoric, and wondered, did he model that after Triple H? I'm ashamed of myself now, after watching this video, after being a wrestling fan since childhood, watching all 3 brands, to admit that, until now, it never dawned on me that Shane did it first.
Would Triple H really steal someone else's gimmick like that? My all time favorite is Bret Hart, so anytime someone asks, would Triple H really do something (anything underhanded), my answer is always a quote: "If he doesn't want to do business, then we'll do business for him!"
Fun Fact: Triple H tried to use the Diamond Cutter from DDP bt DDP wasn't having that🤣🤣🤣
He was using it and DDP called him and asked him, if he could switch his finisher. Because DDP said he JUST started to get over and was using it. An HHH said no problem. It wasn't like DDP " wasn't having it" that implies he TOLD him not to, when in reality he asked him and HHH was kind enough to say no problem.

Fast forward to a few months later when DDP called him about the cutter, he took that as a sign to push even harder to use his pedigree on WWE tv, and the folks backstage finally caved.
The rest is history.
Shane came into my tanning salon accompanied by Chris Benoit. I think he was sent more less to be his handler, looking back in retrospect.
Benoit wasn't nice to me. He was unhinged even then. Knowing what we know now, I am so grateful to Shane. He knew what I was dealing with when I didn't. I don't know if anything would have happened to me that day but I do know because he was there, nothing did. I just dealt with a very rude unhinged man and another who kept him in check.
Thank you, Shane. I have always wanted to say that to you. Thank you so much for your kindness and protection 😇❤️
WCW should have made a bigger deal about him coming in from ECW
He debuted on an episode of Nitro or Thunder in the middle of the show with 0 acknowledgement/heat
Dropped the ball. Could have main evented him. His promos/mic work were magnificent in ECW
I get they had him face Flair - but it should have been bigger. He should have taken shots at Hall/Nash(Kliq) too
But could he do it without the F bombs?
@@coreyhall1150 Absolutely. It's all about how you write his character and let him roll. They should have made a huge deal about him coming in as the old ECW Champ who had heat with Flair, Hall, Nash - etc. Could have been a Tweener. WCW's Stone Cold.

I've heard the same about Austin taking from Sandman.
Steve Austin & the WWE "Creative" Team stole Sandman's beer-drinking gimmick.

Austin didn't drink beer as SCSA on tv until December 1997, a year-and-a-half into the Stone Cold character. Don't limit your mind to merely the visuals...
@@Splattermelt not true
I kind of suspect McMahon didn’t even watch ECW, though I’m sure Russo, J.R., and whoever else was doing the writing at that time did.
He went to the WWE too early. The Dean Douglas character was never going to get over. If he had arrived in 1998, he would have been Austin’s main rival and it likely would have been the WWE champ (instead of the Rock, who would have become the 2nd biggest face earlier).
Lol
Shane was very vanilla as Douglas he look like Jeff jarret with bigger muscles and he joined at the end of the gimmick era and got a terrible one just rehash of the genius. If he could've come back as the franchise version he became in Ecw he would've been a great in the attitude era and could've had some great matches but he burned his bridges when leaving Wwf as Douglas and couldn't return. I always enjoyed his ring work and him versus the rock or Austin would've been a good watch and a grudge match against HHH would've blurred the lines of kayfabe and been interesting especially with steph and francine ring side
Yeah I just really hated him in WWE for some reason, his ring gear was just atrocious and his gimmick was just boring. I mean I was a young kid and this guy is playing some douche male teacher char? We all hated our teachers and principals back then 😂

I just watched an All Japan match today, Stan Hansen vs Carlos Colon from WWC in '87. Stan came to the ring wearing the same vest Austin would wear 10 years later. Black leather vest with a white skull on the back. Even had his initials on the front, same design, same everything. I never knew Steve Austin lifted, or borrowed, from Stan Hansen until today. Flat out ripped the look off, and I've never really even heard Austin utter Stan's name once, let alone give him credit.
In my opinion Troy is THE MOST underrated man Ever in wrestling, I was a teenager when "the game" began in 99 and I thought straight away he was ripping off the Franchise lol.
Triple H didn't wear black and gold,Triple H didn't bury Ric Flair every chance he had on TV, Vince wanted a dominant heel and it couldn't been Rock,Austin or Taker so Paul/Hunter was put into that spot regardless if he married Stephanie or not
And he stole Douglas' gimmick for all of it.

I think Mick could've pulled Shane up to some Heel position to where he became a good piece of the puzzle. Because Mick likes Shane and maybe instead of Terry running into the cage , it coulda been Shane
Shane tried, however the Kliq sabotaged him, especially after Michael's handed him the belt and then Razor won it right after with backstage politics. In DX, Hunter had this bizarre inflection at certain points in his promos. I know it is infamous, but it is still jarring when I see old clips.
Lol, I always loved the "I am that damn good-ahhhhh!" that Trips would do. It was so over the top ridiculous.
I see a lot borrowed from the 3 stoogies in wresting.
I always thought this
HHH stealing from Shane's has gotten him alot.
I never saw the Game as a rip off Franchise. I dunno maybe. But Austin as a rip off Tazz/Sandman? If he stole or borrowed from anyone it was Dr D David Schultz. I like Shane tho. Very underrated
Were they stealing? Go watch ONE night only, the WWF Uk ppv from Sept 97, when HBK beat bulldog, and they (hbk, hunter, chyna) literally called themselves the triple threat. HHH wanted to be the franchise.
