Several years ago I met Mr. Douglas at Bully Busick’s funeral. After visiting the casket and paying respects I approached him, introduced myself as a co worker of Bully’s son. I then told Mr. Douglas how much I had always enjoyed his work and how incredible his iconic ECW title win promo had always been in my mind. He took several minutes to discuss wrestling with me and admittedly I found myself totally “marking out” and feeling like a teenager reliving the glory days of wrestling as I was growing up. Mr. Douglas couldn’t have been nicer and was a credit to himself and his profession during that short meeting going so far as to inviting me to an upcoming show which i regrettably couldn’t make it to. Long story short he’s a wrestling legend in my mind and it was something I’ll always remember fondly.
That’s awesome man. Love hearing stuff like that.
That's how Shane is. I met him in Dayton , Ohio before Heat Wave '98. Loved him !
Flair would have been the opposite.
I’m glad you said in your mind cuz he’s definitely not a legend 😂
@@dav3dabozz anyone from PA feels different you bozo
These are my opinions of the wrestlers that I have met thru time:
Bob Backlund- amazing and generous
Chief Jay Strongbow- extremely quiet and very little to offer(could have been a bad night)
Andre the Giant- wouldn’t even sign an autograph. Didn’t want to be bothered.
Tony Atlas- super nice, cool and very personable
Bill Goldberg- Probably the best out of all of them. We talked about muscle cars for 30 minutes. A real genuine dude.
@BourgProductionsSounds like a prick. I hate successful people who forget why they are successful.
Ric isn't looking for peace. He's looking for the next party and living the life of styling and profiling. He isn't gonna change.
If it’s not broken don’t fix it.🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉😮😮😮 He beat the The Grim Reaper twice now. 1 a plane crash, 2 his latest health scare. I believe it was his liver. I think it was shaped like a pickle lol. He’s one of a kind and we are all just trying to keep up. lol Long live The Nature Boy. Wooooo
Ric is the child that never grew up.
Sad
Ric is senile
If Vern Gagne never went and slapped Ric around for trying to quit his wrestling camp he never would have been the styling and profiling d bag he is now.
That’s why I take EVERYTHING Ric Flair has to say with a grain of salt. HHH is Rick’s best friend? Yeah sure because HHH helped him constantly and Ric is holding out for a return to WWE in some capacity. Had HHH not been married to Steph… I highly doubt HHH would be that high up his list. His best friends are whoever can help him lately.
@Dilnaylomo Gorhaiyee pretty sure Shawn Michaels is Triple H’s best friend.
They might have been close at one point but since Ric Flair started running his mouth about WWE a couple years back they haven't really talked much especially with Triple H's Health scare
@@butt5ful u are right
Yeah he doesn't give arn any credit
If they're best friends he must've been by HHH's bed in hospital recently no?
I kind of agree with him. I met flair once at a comicon, and to be honest, he seemed like he just didn’t want to be there and had such a difference about any fan, who actually was wanting to talk to him. It kind of was a major put off. At that same event I also met hacksaw Jim Duggan, and it was a complete opposite. My friend had a booth next to his so we converse quite a bit throughout the night and Duggan was a complete open hearted, lovely man, one of the best people you’d ever wanna meet. It was a complete contrast of what Rick was.
I've heard nothing but great things about Hacksaw
He’s definitely a class act and all about his fans
Boo hoo
Yeah people seem to always say good things about Duggan...
I once asked Paul London to watch my match, his feedback was incredible and the very next show he requested to work with me. We had a wonderful match and I learnt so much. Some people are phenomenal. I love Tommy Dreamer but I asked him to watch my match but at least he was honest, he didn't have time.. which I respect honesty and appreciated it.
That’s awesome that Paul asked to work with you right after you asked for help.
@@matthewjenkins7488 yeah man, I've since worked London multiple times and done a few with London an Kendrick. Both amazing guys.
As much as Douglas can be appreciated (especially in the presence of the fearlessly entertaining Miss Francine Fournier!😉💃🤼♀️) Tommy Dreamer's very existence just screams "Heart and Soul of ECW" however. This Philadelphia based Company was very fortunate to have such an impressive creative Indy Roster in their prime.🤔🎤🤼♀️🤼♂️B.W.

Shane is always a straight shooter, I dont think he's exaggerating anything in this story.
Yeah absolutely.
There’s nothing to exaggerate in this story?
Had the privilege of meeting and talking to Shane Douglas as I started my wrestling career seven years ago. Such a nice guy, down to earth, and a great mind for the business.
May I ask where your located at and where you have trained? Glad to hear that people still love wrestling and are willing to still go through the process to get in the biz.
In my opinion,Shane has no reason to hold a grudge against Flair. And it seems like Ric has found peace in being the nature boy. I do agree though that Ric probably wants to die in the ring... which is both sad and morbid.
No you didn't. Please don't lie to the internet people
That's awesome
Im sure he's a great guy but when it comes to the business he LOVES himself.
Shane aged better than Shawn Michaels.

@Michael Edwards what's money got to do with it,if you base things in how much someone has to their name, that's up to you,but it's not my style,I see beyond money myself,it's about the person,I've met shitloads of minted people who are pricks, and people who are not so well off but the most kind and genuine people going, stay humble and grounded in life, the lesson I've learnt is,you never know when you may meet all types of people, and you may need help,so I never judge.Good luck pal.
Shane is such a great interview. He's intelligent, articulate, and has a great wrestling mind. I don't doubt his story about Flair. But in reference to Flair attending a wrestling event two weeks after his son died, and him acting oddly when Shane offered his condolences, everyone deals with grief differently. From all the interviews I have seen Flair talk about his son, he gets very emotional and he blames himself because his son was under his watch. Maybe going to that wrestling event so soon after his sons passing was a way to distract himself from the immense emotional pain. As for Flair and he's partying. I do agree with Shane that it appears Flair has become his persona. He loves the attention and recognition that comes with being Ric Flair.
I agree. People should not expect people to act a certain way when dealing with grief. Grief can do different things to different people
Knowing Flair for all we know he was self-medicating and numbed like a zombie weeks after
Definitely his fault his son is dead , why he is a junkie
It's like a switch. When he's in the Ring, he's Shane Douglas. When he goes home, he turns the switch off and he's Troy/husband/ father. I definitely have that switch, and so do you and you and even you. Flair's switch was broken since the beginning. I could listen Shane tell stories all day and all night.
@Moon Cricket I'm just living for my kids now.
Love how intelligent Shane is. His shoots are always high quality. His brain seems to be in good order.
Shane Douglas seems like a man that is very unique in this day in age, strong and honest.
He's a carny, like most wrestlers from back in the day. They all lie.
Shane’s the best. One of the rare name/ veterans who will give you legit feedback, good or bad. I Appreciate The Franchise.
Some of these guys lie in Interviews. You get the feeling with Shane that he's telling the truth. Like super underrated. Politics in WWE and WCW kept him down.
Shane Douglas is incredible, I can listen to this man talk all day. Seems like a genuine down to earth cat. Smart as a whip, like people smart. Good dude.
I remember being a big fan of Flair when I bought his autobiography, but by the time I finished it I wasn’t. I’ve never read so much bitterness in one book, it’s just Flair taking the opportunity to bitch about anyone who didn’t kiss his ass.
It's a disheartening moment, when you realize the person playing the character you love, in real life, is a horse's ass.
According to him

Always a fan of Shane Douglas the character in wrestling. This is the best adult, conversation about another wrestler I have seen.
As an adopted child, Ric Flair spent his life trying, in vain, to gain his father's approval. He always felt "less than," and living the "Nature Boy" persona seems to be him trying to exist as the person he wanted his father to see. He does not like who Richard Fleihr is, and doesn't feel any self worth living as that person, so he hides behind "the Naitch." This is why he has so many troubled relationships in his life personally, professionally, and matrimonially - you can't have a real relationship with an imaginary person. Richard Fleihr is long gone. Ric Flair is not real and, therefore, is incapable of having real feelings or relationships of any depth. Sociopath using alcohol to hide his self-loathing.
I had a friend that was adopted tell me he went through the very things you described
@@billywilliams8753 the ESPN doc did not paint a very kind picture of him, even with all the adulation.
He's definitely an interesting character to analyze. I think he does have serious insecurity issues. He needs that praise from the fans and his feelings are easily hurt when his friends fail to reach out to him when he's going through rough times. He's quick to end friendships without trying to resolve the issue. As far as the Richard Fliehr/Ric Flair persona I'd say they're both one in the same. Ric Flair isn't an act. I think that's just who he is. Maybe turned up a bit in front of the cameras but still the same guy. He loves to party, loves the glitz and glamor, loves the adoration, etc... at all times. He was a party guy and women chaser before he even got into wrestling. But I'd say at 73 he hasn't matured much over the years. I would think Ric's mindset is to live life to the fullest and for him that means carrying on with the partying and women and fame. An imperfect person but we're all imperfect and flawed in our own way. I'm still a Ric Flair fan. He entertained me through all the years I've been a wrestling fan.
@@AceGoodheart well said. My first experience with Ric Flair was being exposed to Georgia Championship Wrestling in the late 70s/early 80's. Even then, he certainly presented himself like a cut above the rest. I still love watching those old shows. But, it IS rather sad to see him divorced yet AGAIN and have to climb in the ring for another payday because, well, alimony. He's not in the best of health to be doing it, even once a year.
Perfect Strangers is still one of the best entrance theme songs
Was a pretty good TV show too!!
@@mattpierce6398 hell yea. Balky Botopamoose!!
Sometimes the world looks perfect, nothing to rearrange. Sometimes you just get a feeling like you need some kind of change.
Flair doesn’t yet get (and maybe never will) that people aren’t wanting to party with him because he’s the Nature Boy anymore. It’s because they think it’s fun and funny for them and their friends to party with the old man that still wants to act like he’s 30. I love Ric Flair and I’m the 80’s him and the Horsemen were one of my favorite groups, but he’s been passed it for 20 years and hes been pathetic since then. And Ric fucking Flair should never be pathetic. It’s sad.
I once messaged Shane on twitter, he replied and was a totally nice guy. Love the franchise
I agree with Shane completely. Ric walked into his “last match” with the complete intent on it being the last thing he ever does. He wanted/wants to die in the ring.
Flair has no respect left. You are not judged on what you were you are judged on what you are.
Good God, a wrestler who can actually talk and put a coherent sentence together when he's not in character. What a pleasure to listen to, Mr. Martin seems like a very intelligent man.
11:43 is one of the truest things ever said and applies to so many wrestlers but is something that almost defines ric flair.
"The Franchise "gotta be one of the best names in wrestling
Too bad he's the complete opposite
I honestly don't believe Ric Flair want to die in the ring.. I think he's just so used to that lifestyle and he feel like wrestling is the only thing that really completes him.. basically he don't know how to let go and just live off of his many accomplishments. I do agree with the part where he said that the man has become Ric Flair now, it's no gimmick or character.
Shane Douglas gives some of the best shoot interviews.
I only even HEARD of this guy earlier today, and after watching probably six of these videos I could listen to him all day. NOTHING like an intelligent, well spoken, well communicating individual with VERY interesting things to talk about. Outstanding.
He's like the very level-headed, reasonable, insightful Ron Swanson of the wrestling world.
Just needs the 'tache.
I'm in my 60s and the partying days are long gone. Ric Flair still partying in his 70s is only embarrassing his kids and grandkids.
Ric Flair is the embodiment of that Biggie Smalls line "Never get high off your own supply" the character took over the person and he became the stereotype of a pro wrestler
Which Stereotype though? Even though Harley Race is clearly one of his heroes, what exactly besides "The Big Gold" do they have in common? Race surrendered his last Championship run in November of 1983 to introduce the World to the modern version of Flair. Ric Flair idolized Dusty Rhodes from the jump and was absolutely heartbroken when Rhodes never exactly honored the homage. Ric Flair might be closer to a mix of Nick Bockwinkel and Gorgeous George with some Muhammad Ali scattered in. Flair met most of his heroes and the old saying has proven true for the most part. In my very amateurish and humble opinion.😔🎤🤼♂️B.W.
Biggie Smalls? That's a line from Scarface. It's Frank's 2nd tenant. :>)
@@MichaelWilliams-so1pqBiggie made it more hip.

Do u hope flair sees it or Richard Flheir sees it? And is there a difference. Shane Douglas is talking as Troy Martin. RICHARD is always the nature boy.
Flair has alienated a lot of his friends, he never set down the lifestyle. He's hurt a lot of people who really loved him.
Shane seems like a very genuine person
Shane Douglas will always be remembered as a legend in Pennsylvania...I see him on the level as Harley Race, Bruno Sammartino or Ric Flair as far as what Shane contributed to the sport.
Finally a mature thoughtful respectful human being in the business. Eloquently said Franchise
I don't think this story was bad, but Jimmy Garvin said that when he needed a few days off after a hurricane damaged his home, Ric Flair wouldn't allow it when Flair was a booker. Flair didn't spend time with his family, so he wouldn't allow Jimmy to take care of things at home.
What a class act. Shane is awesome.
Shane Douglas is the one guy the 90s major wrestling promotions missed on. The Franchise is the best wrestler and gimmick in ECW, even better than Raven. He was the Franchise before Sting and the Undertaker. Shane Douglas is a HOF wrestler who had a HOF run in an independent promotion that went nationwide through tape trading. Shane Douglas is an icon of wrestling in THE most entertaining time of professional wrestling. He is a LEGEND.
It was the only gimmick where you wouldn't die or be crippled within 10 years.
Totally agree
NEVER had a HOF run. Against who? EVERY major talent of that time say the SAME thing, he was average in the ring & in ecw all he did was curse.
I could not agree more.
WWF/WWE and WCW were too soft for ECW wrestlers. He was in WWF a little as Dean Douglas
If you watch or listen to Ric Flair's podcast, you can see that Flair almost always goes on tangents his commentary. Mark Maddon couldn't keep him on track. Conrad can steer the Nature Boy to a certain degree, but Flair is still all over the place. He has a very hard time staying focused on one subject. That could either be his personality or he has suffered the effects of concussions, which has never once been discussed about why he is the way he is. The fixated thinking, lack of focus, disorganization, problems with relationships, decision-making,emotional problems, they can be symptoms of brain injury, diagnosed or otherwise. If you look up "executive dysfunction," which can be a frontal lobe injury; Flair probably suffered a head injury from the plane crash (he was knocked unconscious), plus who know how many other concussions over his sporting life, between football, amateur wrestling and pro wrestling. There are about eight processes that are affected with executive dysfunction. And if you believe doctors would catch something like that, you are giving doctors too much credit.
I think you are onto something.
Age coming up to 74 and alcohol PLENTY, 2 more contributing factors.
Shane Douglas had an amateur wrestling background???
How Shane wasn't pushed to the moon is beyond me. Amazing Heel. Great promos excellent in the ring. Dude deserved far more than midcard that's for sure.
Many times people are their own worst enemy.
Deserved has nothing to do with earning
He wasn't pushed because he didn't draw. I swear, you guys treat wrestling like the $$$ aren't the absolute bottom line. So many guys can 'wrestle'...but are they able to convince people to spend their $$$ to go and watch them? Hulk Hogan did. Goldberg did. Dusty Rhodes did. Ric Flair did. Bret Hart didn't. Kevin Nash didn't.
@@manuginobilisbaldspot424 He didn't draw? Well clearly neither did many others. Let's not act like WCW excelled at decision making towards the end. I swear you guys forget many things that fit your agenda when you attempt your smartass answers.

I remember he said this in his WCW promo when he was supposed to feud with flair.
I have to respect the fact that Douglas is the only one that doesn't have "the two have reconciled and are now friends" next to his name on flair's wiki. Not defending flair but with the son incident, he might have shrugged it off because he was loaded.
With the son part u mention, could reckon it was frozen grief in flairs defence. It happens
Possibly, But then he did do the thing that got jr fired. Im not blaming ric in fact the wrestling business attitude of “keep going regardless” probably contributed to his demons.
Last time I had a death of someone clowe to me, I worked about 19 hours a day for a week, had a terrible time at the funeral, worked crazy hours again for about a month then finally actually let myself process it. Mileage will vary but I just couldn't deal with that shit for a while. No idea if that is true for Ric Flair, but true for me.

Have to say Shane Douglas seems a very genuine and down to earth man, has a great way of engaging you into his knowledge of wrestling
When he decided to keep wrestling after that match with HBK. Basically showed that he didn’t even respect the business anymore.

I met Shane Douglas back in 2001. He was mad chill
I remember Dale Earnhardt once said he felt more comfortable in that loud, hot race car driving at 200 mph at Talladega or Daytona than he felt sitting in his Lazy Boy watching the Tonight Show. I have met Dale Earnhardt, watched him race and heard his interviews, and am convinced beyond a doubt that he died doing what he loved. If he could have chosen when and where he would die, it would have been on a race track, maybe it would have been many years later but I don't doubt that is how he wanted to go out.
It seems that maybe Ric Flair does want to go out doing what he has always loved in a wrestling ring much like Dale Earnhardt. We can say what we will about Ric Flair, the man or Ric Flair the wrestler, but if you question his love and passion for pro wrestling, then you never really were paying attention and you don't know what you are talking about.
I wish the best for Ric Flair. I grew up watching him and I am nearly 50 years old. If his wish is to die with his boots on in a wrestling ring then so be it. But I have no desire to see it happen and won't be a party to it.
I have no doubt that there are people who would gladly buy a ticket to see Ric Flair's "last match" . But they aren't going to buy that ticket or go to that match because they love Ric Flair or what he has meant to pro wrestling. They are going to buy that ticket and go to that match wanting to see Ric Flair die in the middle or the ring and hopefully catch it happening on their camera phones so they can have a viral video. These are the kinds of people that would gladly hand you a gun so you could shoot yourself as long as they can make a video clip out of it. These people are the kind of sick idiots that just have some juvenile fascination with watching someone die right in front of them. Sick bastards! The lowest form of scum! If nothing else I hope Ric Flair denies them their satisfaction.
I said this 20yrs ago hes gonna pass away in the ring and it will be the worst possible situation for every wrestler still alive
WOW, well said. I have a lot of respect for Shane. Everything he said, is sadly 100% true.
I could watch interviews with Shane forever. He has such an honourable way of chiming in on things he does know about - which is most things he talks about but he's also humble enough to admit if there's something he's not sure of or that he was wrong about something before. Regarding Flair - I lost 100% respect for him hearing about the Flight from Hell. I loved Flair, the Horsemen and was a bit 'embarrassed' for him trying to be this geriatric playboy but when I heard about the Flight from Hell, it's no longer embarrassment. It even removed the respect I had for him from before I knew it.
Shane seems like someone you could sit and talk with for hours and never get bored. Unlike Flair or Hogan.
Shane Douglas and Kevin Sullivan for HOF
When I was growing up in the 90's Ric Flair was my #1 favorite wrestler. All the way through adulthood Ric was the man and i always looked forward to seeing him perform. Slowly over time I've come to appreciate Shane not only for his in ring work, but outside of wrestling. He's a professional in all categories. I'd go as far to say I like Troy Martin (his real name) more then Shane Douglas. Needless to say I've had a new #1 favorite for the past couple decades.
🤡
If Ric had been in WWF more I would've liked him more. He was a funny heel but by the '90s he was too old, for me.
Flair in the 90's (mid 90's onwards at least) was 10yrs past his peak
Go into a bar in Pittsburgh, and Shane is the guy on the next barstool. It makes me laugh, in a good way, of course.
Shane is a very thoughtful guy
"better than steamboat" smh lol Flair was a trip
Triple H Stole Shane's Gimmick
I find myself in total agreement with this.
I have been obsessed with Ric Flair since I first saw him back in 1989 when I was 8 years old.
To me he will always be the absolute greatest ever and I am proud to be a total "mark" for Ric Flair.
However, Richard Fliehr, the person behind the character has continually shown himself to be nothing more than a very insecure, immature, irresponsible, questionable human being.
He has spent the last 40 years making unhealthy life choices.
While I adore what he had done in the Wrestling business, he seems to have nothing else in his life other than Wrestling and drinking.
To say again, as a performer I am a total Ric Flair "mark" but as a person to see a man in his mid 70's acting like a 17 year old is rather tragic and a waste of the life you've been given.
Just when I though we were about to go a full Shane Douglas clip without hearing about Medical School.
My thoughts exactly- another eyeroll for the legend Shane Douglas...
The title of this video should have been "Shane Douglas' Christmas wish for Ric Flair".
Ric is a different human being. I imagine there are therapists that know what his issues are, and maybe that type of human being is more common than I know. Just because he is one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time, does not mean that any of his other traits are even close to that. In regards to passing on knowledge, think of those that "can do" but cant teach (I know a lot of them) and also those that "can do" but dont want to teach, as they dont want to teach their replacement. I think Ric is the former.
Thank you for being 1 of like, 9 people left in the world with common sense and at least half a brain. Lol
Nah, he's just Jewish.
@@chuckycheesechucky what???

I will never tire of Shane ripping into Flair.
Great point about "Ric Flair taking over the body" I believe that's very prevalent with wrestler's who have played a character for so long and were great at it. look at guys like Hogan, Brian knobbs, they can't seem too separate their persona's from reality. It's creepy
The Franchise is the reason I grew my hair longer and grew my first goatee. I have gone more into the Cactus Jack look now.
Keeping your life moving after a tragedy doesn’t mean you don’t care staying busy is good coping.
Shane has to be the most stand up guy you'd ever meet in life much less wrestling...
A man who doesn’t spend time with his family isn’t a man. Ric Flair was great on the mic but didn’t want to be around the family that he supported. I guess life of the party means that much. Rest In Peace young Fliehr.
Ive been lucky enough to be in the ring with Shane and hes a true pro and was always so eager to help everyone out
Well said Troy(Shane)
Flair and big bad Conrad will come at you for this and I can’t wait
I like Shane Douglas. He's a cool, humble, guy. I can't say the same about Flair.
No such a relative as a "nephew in-law!"
While I'm a fan of Ric and his podcast, I do find him to be very hypocritical by trashing Jim Ross because Ric said that JR is tryin' so hard to be relevant.
I lost some respect for Ric Flair. If Ric keeps saying hypocritical statements or wrestle more "last matches", then I lost all my respect for him too.
It's also quite hypocritical when Flair plays the victim and paints Jim Herd and Eric Bischoff as the bad guys from the WCW days when Flair was a well known racist, bully and backstage politician
I've never understood the hype around Flair, granted, I'm a younger fan and never saw him at his peak. But, whenever I watch his matches, they're all the same (chops, face flop, figure 4, repeat) Say what you will about Bret Hart but he wipes the floor with Ric in-ring. As far as promos go, from what I've seen, Dusty (R.I.P) was far better than him. His statements towards JR have only made me think even more poorly of him.
@@calvinfolan1736 yeah bud, you definitely don't know flair. You're reffering to heal flair. Not babyface flair.
@@Mackie9210 oh lord. Please don't say you're one of those people who think you have to like everyone. I don't. Nobody has to. If you don't like tall people, fat people, gays etc... Then why do you think its appropriate that people HAVE to like other people for any reason. Its like I hate the people who burned our country for a year. Does that make me racist because I didn't like it? I don't like the people who did it, but have no issue whit the ones that did it
@@rickjustus6416 I don't understand your message to me. Are you condoning Flair being a racist? Do you think Flair had a right to be angry towards JR?
Flair lacks professionalism and maturity outside of the ring what he did to that flight attendant was disgusting
There was no other wrestler in the world that could compare to Ric Flair as I was coming up. When there would be that debate over who was the number 1 wrestler of all time Flair or Hogan and someone said Hogan it would literally make me angry. But now, I side with Shane on Flair. I try to watch his podcast with Conrad on the Tube really hoping that my disappointment would go away but Flair always says something or acts in a certain way that lets me know right where that disappointment was built. I mean he giggles and takes pride in being known as the drunk of the party when old stories are mentioned. It's embarrassing, I mean, there is nothing wrong at all to reminisce and tell old stories but that's not what I'm talking about with Flair. He giggles and takes a shameless like child pride when talking about being drunk and women. He literally laughs about cheating on his wives. Ok, fine, good for you Flair as long as you do not have children with those wives. He really comes off as a creep. This all coming from a guy who had a Ric Flair poster on his wall for years, so needless to say, I take no joy in my observations.
Who are you to judge anyone.
@@ninowaves4061 I'm not judging. I am simply stating my view and opinion. Read my statement again, and if you have any intelligence at all you will see that my statement is purely opinion. And if you don't see that, well then, that's your opinion.
I just had the conversation/argument with a close friend. He lives in NC and loves Flair. I do too, but it’s hard to like Flair the man. Everything you say is true. It’s sad to know that he will never change, and all his “friends” seem to encourage his poor behavior. Never thought I would see the day where watching Ric Flair makes me cringe 😬
@@NatureGirlWOO 👍🏻
I love the intelligent former wrestlers that get real
Shane
Dutch Mantell
Might be the two best
Yeah Flair showed his ass when he ripped on Douglas for working at Target. Heck if you're a manager at Target you make, on Average, 60K and have a great health plan. Not rich by any means but better than being in a massive amount debt and continuously making an ass out of yourself like some cough* Flair cough* a job is a job period
I was born in 70 and watched wrestling growing up of course and was never a fan of WWF. I think Degeneration X was the only decent era. My opinion of course. NWA/WCW,Mid South,Rocky Mountain, etc were the best.
Ric Flair is no longer a gimmick its his life
It's all he knows. Sometimes a man has too many demons to overcome. It's those moments when you're alone. And everything hits you in waves. Some people escape but more don't and some are crazy enough to choose not to.
It’s been his life for 40 years.
When was it not?
@@trashedbodomguy exactly
Shut up troy
Shane Douglas ended up better than most wrestlers.
Lots of respect to Mr. Martin after this interview. WOW.
Flair is The Man because everyone is still hungry for his approval. WOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
Seems like not many who weren't wrestling at bingo halls never had any real respect. for Shane... so...what does that say? i mean if Yoko is yelling you out, who was universally respected by everyone(except maybe a couple jobbers that pissed him off) , then it tells me all I need to know.
"The Franchise",was always very underrated..He was a very great talent that got overlooked, by let's say The In crowd of Wrestling..Fans appreciated and enjoyed him ,wrestlers hated on him cause he was better than them and they knew it.
There's a lot of targets when criticizing Flair. But a lot of Shane's criticism could be racked up to Flair being a hyper extroverted daily drinker with a million people in his ear. He probably barely remembers talking with Douglas. It's similar to when the hot chick doesn't remember you sat behind her in Algebra
That's what Shane doesn't seem to get. Flair had drawn millions of dollars many times over for years by the time he met Shane. Shane bring who he is expected Ric to treat him as an equal. That was never going to happen
@@JohnDoe-ym5ly No...he just wanted Flair to be honest. Had Flair said, 'Sorry Kid, I just don't have the time.' Douglas would have been fine with that. Instead, Flair B.S.ed him and told him he was great...without even watching the match,
@@brianbenoit6883 I agree but ECW couldn't even afford to book Flair after Shane made insulting him his gimmick for a while. Ric had to have looked at those guys as bush league, and as wrong as you may find it he was treated as such. Both in WWF and WCW. I say this as an ECW and Shane Douglas fan.
Shane comes across as a very honourable man
What a bizarre story. Maybe Flair thought he missed the cross body and didn't want to hurt the rookie Shane's feelings? By Shane's own account, Flair watched multiple Shane matches over the course of "several weeks", something he did *not* have to do. Why does everything have to be taken as a personal attack?
I know right lol… Douglas anger about that is ridiculous… So he made a career on Flair’s name..
Because guys like Shane who aren't the BIG star's like Hogan or flair thinks everything is personal
I don't think he thought it was personal. They asked him what started the bad blood, and he was honest. Anyone would feel let down if someone like Flair promised to help you out and then you realized he wasn't even watching you. Like SD said, he's long since over that but there's been countless occurrences over the years that keep the bad blood going.
His point was that Ric didn't actually watch any of his matches but said he did and just gave lame generic comments about them
@@SP-rp4lk he may have watched, but couldn't remember every spot, and since he saw the cross body so many other times he thought it was in that match too. i dunno here, no telling for sure. i know i don't remember every spot or even half of them after i watch a match
I grew up on Slick Ric but later was exposed to Shane and I changed. I respect Shane more.
Flair trying to pump up a kid rather than criticize his work? Some people try to rewrite the past. Ric Flair greatest in-ring performer to ever do it.
What about being honest?
Bret and Owen were better in ring workers imo
Who does the same exact match for over 30 years. Flair was great up to the 80’s but under average following that
And I’ll give him credit he’s a tale of how not yo conduct your life outside the wrestling bubble in every way especially financially
@miked9112 You nailed it ! Flair was truly great in the 80's but after that he was just another guy. As a matter of fact being a Horsemen made him bigger.
