I used EOS for like, 3 days. My lips got so chapped and dry and gross- apparently was not paying attention at the time though and missed this entirely. Took almost a month to get my lips back to normal, but my sister was using the same thing so I figured it was just me. Only thing I've ever used that did that though and I've never met a lip product I did not want to try.
For those that’s see this and are curious to try one, don’t bother. A lot of people, including me, seem to be sharing the same sentiment that they tend to dry out and make the lips peel considerably more after usage.
i liked a few flavors (i used the fuck out of a mint one) but it's not practical for me it looks weird and bulky in my pockets which is a huge pitfall since i mostly carry my stuff in my pockets 😭😭😭 a tube (or even two or three if im going wild and crazy) of burts bees in my pocket can remain virtually unseen (and they have rly good flavors- the honey flavor fucks). there's a reason i only put eggs in my pockets when my hands are full
@@tate7511 I use their stick form and I absolutely love the mint ! I never understood why everybody went crazy over that ridiculous round container. It seemed very inconvenient to me.
I remember everyone being so obsessed with the EOS lip balms. I bought one once and it was so drying. Never bought another one again even though I was so tempted. I loved the packaging.
They should just put a generic warning on all beauty products: "We tested this stuff, it's safe for the general public, but some people might have an allergic reaction because that's how humans work. Here's the symptoms of an allergic reaction, seek medical attention." It's just that easy.
Amen. I have terrible skin allergies, so I tend to get reactions from many essential oils/scents/certain other related things, so things that may be just fine for 99% of people are probably going to not work great for me. And that's okay. It's how the human body works. Plus, most people don't bother thinking about the fact that all those "dangerous chemicals" are also naturally occurring...they just don't generally get mentioned as ingredients in natural things because it would be a lot of work to break down every single thing out there and give a chemical makeup of it.
I wore khaki cargos from the boys section so I could have larger pockets and not need a purse. Sure, the smallest sizes were still a little baggy cuz I could also wear a junior's zero but I preferred a 3/4 for the extra comfort space. I didn't care if other teens questioned my interests because I had pockets.
I guess I lucked out with EOS, I loved it and used it daily. The problem was carrying it around in my purse; dirt tended to collect in the crack where the top and bottom twisted off and I would have to throw them away. Gardenia was my favorite. I stopped using it because of the bad press.
I thought the same thing about the packaging, but I ended up discovering other lip balms by the time they made "normal" stick versions. I tend to use baby lips or homemade balms
I have one currently sitting next to my bed. I never had a bad reaction to EOS, but if you have a bad reaction to something simply stop using it. This should be common sense!
Exactly! I’ve been using their lip balm for years because the packaging is cute and it works for me. If something doesn’t work you for, don’t use it! Especially if you’re having an allergic reaction. People really lack common sense sometimes
Agree, I mean even deodorant tells you that. “ if irritation occurs , discontinue use” I think this had more to do with the fact that the product was “trendy” and she was hit with a bad case of fomo.
I think it's the issue that an allergic reaction can be something that causes death and them not having clear ingredients or an allergy warning could cause some serious harm and potentially even loss of life.
@@retroleoxo it’s YOUR responsibility to do research on the ingredients if you know you have a deadly allergy. Stop expecting the world to cater towards YOUR needs.
I was one that had an allergic reaction. I was 15 and stupid. I had the summer fruit one first that gave me rashes so then to fix it I got the "Medicated" Tangerine one. It only got more worse. I eventually went to a dermatologist who gave me some medicine (it was this neon green goop) as well said to use the "Medicated" lip balm since at the time I didn't connect the two for the reaction. It started to get better with the medicine but when I switched lip balms, because I ran out, my lips healed so fast. Thats when I realized what it was. My bet is that on all their lip balms it says "flavors" as an ingredient with no other information. I think it was that to cause the rashes. I'm more mad at the one that was labeled "Medicated" and was definitely not. That does feel wrong. I also wish I knew about the lawsuit haha. I only use Aquaphor as a lip balm now and I have a fear of others.
LOL, you are mad at the medicated lip balm. LOL you think it is medicine? Do you also think that coconut is a nut? Or that all Doctors with PhDs are actual Doctors too?
I am glad for this thread , can I actually file a claim? My mouth was wrecked, the corners of my mouth were crusty , dusty at the corners and I could not even open my mouth to eat. My mom had the audacity to say it was in my head …. Even my dermatologist said it was not the lip balm. This was when it first came out. SAME. AS THE GIRL THAT FILED THE CLAIM. My upper lip was so so swollen…. It was horrible. Traumatic. NO ONE BELIEVED MEEEEE……. people got hurt because of the product. I have never before or since then had that kind of reaction to any product.
I never had an allergic reaction, but the lip balm felt very waxy and drying and I eventually threw it out after a short cycle of trying it, hating it, ignoring it, thinking about how so many ppl raved about it, trying it again, remembering that I hate it, and ignoring it.
Soo crazy I went through the same thing and it was sooooo embarrassing. Obviously this was preCOVID so I wasn’t wearing a mask or anything to be able to hide it. I hate how cute packaging can be so deceiving. I’ve sticked to Vaseline only now and everything has been dandy
@@noellem9319 everyone's saying that carmex is the worst lip balm out there and I honestly don't care if it's true because it moisturizes my lips so well and stays on for several hours without needing to constantly reapply it
I was at school during the EOS craze when it was new so I absolutely hopped onto the trend and BEGGED my mom for one. Sadly it was just.. so disappointing? It was claimed to be the best lip balm at the time but I found it so drying. No wonder all the girls in my class applied the lip balm every 5 minutes. It was TERRIBLE. Never had an allergic reaction though, it was just a bad product.
I literally just left a comment like this seriously I remember using it in high school because everyone else had it and I feel like I just had to do nothing but consistently apply it with it drying out more
I agree, it was drying, but didn’t realize it at first since it was winter when the air is so dry here, anyway. After stopping use, lips weren’t as dry, though. I thought maybe peppermint oil?
Do you remember the sub-trend of making “lipstick” with crayons? This was around the time that the FDA released a study of hundreds of lipsticks to determine the lead levels in cosmetics. The idea was that crayons are non-toxic so you should use them as a pigmenting product in home-made lipstick, which is pretty bonkers when ACTUAL LIPSTICK is a non-toxic product formulated to be applied to the lips with the assumption that small amounts would be ingested. Crayola even released a statement saying this was a bad idea, that crayons aren’t intended to be used this way, and even if they’re non-toxic they are not supposed to be applied to the skin or ingested.
I did this as a child, it was still fun though! But I quickly got bored since some of the colors wouldn’t show. And the ones that did only lasted a few minutes. Ah, memories
For me it was the container. They were cute and hard to lose at the time unlike the tubes. The worst was the clear one, that felt like it sucked the moisture out of your lips more than moisturized them. Stopped buying them since they started feeling funky on the lips, cost was unreasonable compared to other products, and I learned to just have a chapstick everywhere
At the end of the day, I don't think you can sue people because you have an allergic reaction. I had a lot of reactions to fragrance as a kid. Should my mom have sued Tide because I broke out in hives after she washed my clothes in it? Unless the reaction was caused due to company negligence or error (ex, the product was contaminated, there was some kind of factory error), it's on the consumer. How can you blame someone else for not knowing you had an allergy? Ridiculous.
Exactly, if you have an allerigc reaction at all you should get a test to know what exactly it is that your allergic to if possible and avoid those ingredients I think she likely just has no idea how these lawsuits work
When theres multiple class action lawsuits against the product, i dont think there's someone being whiny about a fragrance irritating them. EOS also paid up, and it wouldnt have if it thought it was frivolous.
I was even allergic to Tide free and clear lol Maybe I should sue them because it’s not safe enough for everyone with allergies 🤣 the only detergents I’m not allergic to are Purex free and clear and Cheer Free and clear.
@@verybarebones Well, devil's advocate, but they could have just as easily paid up because it wasn't that many people (ergo, not as much money being shelled out) and it had the PR advantage of looking like they cared about their customers.
I would add a note to the packaging simply saying "remember to test any new cosmetics on a small section of your skin at least 24 hours before applying it to the face". It's a common sense thing and that could free them from most legal cases. They would not be saying their product is bad or can cause allergies, it's just that our skin can always react to something unexpected and it's always better to test new products before using them.
That wouldn't have done anything for me, it was only after a bit of time using it did the irritation show up. It slowly dried out my lips and caused redness and cracking. I have zero allergies, so if others who also have no allergies were reacting to it too, you gotta consider that maybe rather than blame the people who suffered from it, maaaaybe the company should look into it more. IMO, there was definitely something irritating in it that was technically legal to include, and an opportunity to help improve FDA standards was missed (working with them to try to isolate what was causing all the complaints).
I bought a Korean sunscreen once. It was claimed as moisturizing and hypoallergenic, I guess. I have combination skin, but it was a little bit dryer back then. So I tested it before using on my face. Then I got an awful rush, that looked almost like an acne. It lasted for about a MONTH. I never had acne and my skin isn’t sensitive. I stopped using it. But that sunscreen was rather expensive. So after a couple of months. I decided to give it a second chance. The reaction was the same! Now I understood that this sunscreen contains some kind of oils and flower extracts. And the most interesting part is that I didn’t have ANY reaction when I used it on my body.
@@snake_whirlpool Yeah the skin on my face is generally more sensitive than other parts of my body and I think a lot of people will automatically patch test on things other than our faces cause we know the face is sensitive and we don’t want to have a potential reaction on our face, if it can be avoided
Love the idea for this series. Would be totally up for even longer 'When Beauty Goes Wrong' episodes about BBLs, Fillers/Hyaluronidase, Controversial Surgeries etc that have more complex stories too
I had the exact same reaction to the peach and vanilla scented/flavoured Nivea lip balm , and 3 years later, I still suffer occasional side effects such as flair ups of angular cheilitis and perioral dermatitis. I went to a dermatologist who told me that once these kinds of conditions have been triggered by something they can reoccur randomly for the rest of your life D: Luckily, the flair ups are now few and far between and a lot less severe than they were for the first year or so, but it has definitely taught me not to buy any skincare just because of its pretty smell and packaging!
I had the same reaction and the angular chelitis lasted for 4 months for me! I will also occasionally have flare ups with it every once in a while but it never started happening until i used the eos
Interesting those lipbalms work great for me i have had a break out with palmers lip balm once it was horrible I think it was the peppermint gloss one.
As someone with highly sensitive skin and allergies, it always boggles me when I find out people don't do an elbow or wrist test before using products. I won't put anything on my face unless I've tested it first
I almost exclusively react on my face, specifically around my lips. So something could be totally fine on my neck or behind the ear, and would burn the hell out of the skin around my mouth or eyes
Well not all of us have a lot of allergies.. i only get a reaction from certain metals (mostly jewelery) however i’ve never had any reactions on any lipbalms or body creams and body oils..
So I’m confused, she’s sueing because she had an allergic reaction to a lip balm? This happens. It sucks. It’s rare. But they can’t control/prevent it from happening. I’m not sure why she felt like she had a case here.
idk, tbh they can and should prevent it, as much as possible. them not doing more testing and failing to disclose stuff to customers (probably just to save on those aspects to make more profit) isnt okay at all, even if it's "just a lip balm". i think we should hold these companies to a much higher standard.
@@briciolaa Someone mentioned this before, but skin products usually say “test on a small patch of skin before using. Discontinue if allergic reactions occur.” Technically, if the person didn’t follow this and the packaging had this instruction written on it, it’s legally not the company’s fault that they didn’t follow instructions on how to use the product. So the company wouldn’t be considered responsible if you didn’t do what you were supposed to before slathering yourself in their product-which is to check if you were one of the few people who are allergic to any of the ingredients first by doing a test patch. However, I think the case would be much stronger if the ingredient she was allergic to *wasn’t* listed in the ingredients list. Like she knew was allergic to it, looked for it, didn’t see it, and then concluded it was safe for her to use.
I was pretty much against EOS from the beginning, because my mom had gotten one and used it regularly. But one time, practically overnight, the entire thing was molded out. Mom got a second one, but it happened again. I remember looking it up and finding out about some of the ingredients. They promoted bacteria growth like crazy, so i just refused to get any of those little devil eggs.
Yeah i think the issue was they used something that was a drying ingredient like peppermint oil but they used more of it than other chapstick brands did. So for people who used it and had a reaction it created a hypersensitivity to it resulting in them not able to use other chapsticks
When you formulate a product that is so organic that it lacks preservatives to prevent spoilage (bacteriostatic) then you get spoilage. Organic doesn’t mean that your skin isn’t going to freak out. Many organic ingredients have no long term studies to support that they’re better or not harmful.
@@JessicaGarcia-ys9fd absolutely agreed. I'd long since learned to be careful with anything regardless of organic status or not. The biggest problem with them becoming moldy was when moisture was introduced to the ingredients in the eos. Lotta people said to apply on dry lips and wipe off the balm. But like. That is honestly a completely unnecessary step, and its not going to stop particles from getting on the eos and breeding bacteria. Its not acceptable that there is a noticeable risk of having a product that unexpectedly molds out. Its why preservatives were used.
@@zamiaramirez1390 yeah! I remember something about that too. I've got lot of allergies and i had learned ages ago from carmex to avoid any chapstick that had any kind of menthol or mint in it. So i only used regular chapstick and didnt trust any new brand. I remember jenluvsreviews made a very nicely articulated video on the chemical makeup of lip balms, and which brands were good or bad.
I'm so glad people are talking about this! I was 12/13 when the trend was a thing and BEGGED my mum to buy me one. I got the mint EOS lip egg thing. A month after I got it, my lips got so bad and dry and cracked that I couldn't smile or eat because it hurt too much and my lips would bleed. I ended up having to use medical cream on them.
@@elephant4639 because, like me, they probably didn’t realize. Earlier this year I started getting horrible blisters and cold sores around my mouth where, just like the OP, I couldn’t smile, I could barely talk, and eating hurt. Not once did it ever occur to me until this video that it would’ve been because of EOS. i eventually stopped using it and my cold sores went away but I only stopped using it because I started to dislike the smell. This lawsuit seems pretty darn frivolous, and, honestly, like a complete cash grab. I get severe contact dermatitis from a variety of ingredients that are considered skin safe. I’ve had the skin around my eyes swell so badly that they’ve swollen shut and become infected. Should I retain a lawyer and sue every skincare brand that puts Witch Hazel in their products, despite it being a common astringent in skincare that most people tolerate well? Just because some people who use a particular product experience an adverse reaction it doesn’t make that product unsafe or the company negligent. If I discover I’m allergic to peanuts as a result of eating peanut butter for the first time, I don’t expect to successfully sue Jiffy for causing my anaphylaxis.
That was my thought. Honestly, I'm allergic to most lip balms. Even the Blistex medicated made my lips break out. EOS was the only brand to actually help my lips and not give them hives.
This is what mandatory labeling is for. The consumer can then make an informed choice and the manufacturer is protected. Some allergies can kill as you are aware.
I can’t even lie. I was OBSESSED with those funky weirdly shaped lip balms . The marketing fully worked on me. It literally could have been solidified lard and be chicken foot flavour I WANTED THEM !!
As some one with a lot of allergies, there is a lot of missleading labling going on in the wellness/ skin care/ beauty industry. For exaple a lot of products that are labled sensitive still have fragrances in them which is a common allergy. And unlike with food you can't try the single ingridiant to figure out which one is the cause of the allergic reaction...
Well dang. This actually happened to me back in like 2014ish and I never thought it happened to anyone else. I bought an EOS one night and used it once, maybe twice (I didn’t buy it cus it was popular so I wasn’t over applying it to look cool lol). The next day my lips were super irritated, cracked, and swollen. I have an allergy to topical vitamin E and I assumed that even though their ingredients don’t mention use of vitamin E, that they had it in there and that’s why I had a reaction, but this was waaay different from any of the other reactions I’ve had. It lasted about 3-4 weeks and made life miserable; I couldn’t open my mouth all the way, my lips didn’t make moisture on their own anymore, and they itched horribly. The weird thing is that even though I could use chapsticks before the EOS incident, I can’t now. Ever since then, if I try to use anything on my lips that isn’t just petroleum jelly, my skin will react horribly again. Guess I missed out on 4K lol
I did too. I was in middle school trying to fit in and bought this. Had same reaction and immediately stopped using it. I started using Carmex and had better juicier lips 😆
I experienced the same symptoms as you did when I used an eos lip balm. I couldn't open my mouth and when I ate something spicy or salty, it would burn. The corners of my mouth cracked and puss like liquid would seep out and the skin around my mouth would flake and peel off. This was when I was in high school and this made me feel so insecure and I felt like it was just as bad as acne to the point where I'd wear scarfs and masks to school so no one could see.
This happened to me too! Even now (after 5 years I think), I can't use any solid lip balm but only the ones in tube/lip oils, and even stiff lipsticks will just makes those EOS blisters come back.
So weird the same exact thing happened to me in 2011. My lips still don't produce moisture on their own anymore. Ever since it happened I can only use petroleum jelly on my lips nothing else works anymore
I'm not sure on what the ingredients list of EOS looks like but you may not have recognized the name for vitamin E in the list because it often goes by the chemical name in skincare ingredients lists! This is just based off my own experience since I try to choose lotions with more vitamin E in them I quickly learned that when looking on the back of products vitamin E was almost always listed as Tocopheryl Acetate, I believe. Just for future reference if anyone wants to avoid vitamin E or get more of it, that's at least one form that it can take in a product!
Oh man, I remember when highly perfumed 'cute' lip balms were all the rage at school (this was like back in the 90s lol). All the girls who used them used to have a raging red splotch all around their mouths and they would slather on more 'to fix their lips'. I was convinced that it was the balms themselves that were cracking their faces, but of course I was 'just jealous' because I didn't have a fashionable cute flavoured lip balm lol
I remember getting a reaction specifically with the cola flavored one, but not the rest. The flavor encourages licking the lips, which dries them out even worse. I tried plain oil on a sponge for a while, but the real solution was braces. I've used the same products since then, and it doesn't cause a problem now that my mucous membranes aren't constantly exposed to the air.
EOS dried my lips rather than being helpful. I also just think that they absolutely should have put at least the ingredients clearly on the packaging, if not a potential allergy warning. It’s weird to me that anyone could claim no wrong doing in an allergic reaction if the consumer wasn’t told what’s in it.

I was one of those people that had a bad reaction from EOS I will never ever use again. It was painful, long, and embarrassing. It was almost like having cold soars all over your mouth area.
This happened to me too!!! I thought there was something wrong with mine. Tried it once and threw it away. Looked like I had mouth sores along with the rash!!! Yuck!
Same thing happened to my mom from using Burts Bees. Funny though she just stopped using it and moved on with her life. She didn't even need to sue anyone
wait wait wait. I started getting horrible and consistent cold sores and rashes. Like, skin tearing lips cracked and bleeding type of thing. Now that I think about it, I did consistently use EOS at the time, but I had no idea.. it makes sense now though. I’ve mostly stopped using EOS but dang I had no idea
This happened to me as well! I had the same reaction around my mouth area a good few years back when I was given the balm for my bday. I went to the doctor and he suggested putting make up to cover it up😭😭 it really did some damage as someone with black skin, I had a bright pink/white patch that was flaky/weeping. I thought it was just me until I read a few articles a couple years back when others had the same reaction. Never used eos again but I know it works for some of my friends who love their products.
I can't remember where I read this, but I remember seeing a lot of people complaining about mold and severe mold reactions from EOS lip balms. Beauty products usually have a date by which you should use them once you open them (such as a 6M for six months), but rarely have an actual expiration date. Because EOS products were "all-natural" and didn't have preservatives, they were prone to growing mold while sitting on thr shelf before folks even purchased them.
@@DracoMetorHD the *idea* surrounding "all-natural" products is bad. Saying something is "natural" is generally imagined to be an automatic positive, but this is fallacious thinking (naturalistic fallacy, to be precise) because natural does NOT actually equal better. Plenty of things that exist in nature are also dangerous, harmful, and fatal to human beings. Does that make sense? A product can be "all natural" perhaps and also be good. All natural doesn't mean bad. It just means you should raise your eyebrows in skepticism and not automatically assume that it is better
Wait, wait, wait…someone is trying to sue because they had an allergic reaction to a lip balm? What the hell??? I can’t count the number of times a make up or skin care product has brought me out in a rash!!! It sucks, and it is miserable and gutting when you waste money on a product that was supposed to be a nice treat and ends up making you look like some kind of mutant for several days, but that’s life. You can’t blame others for your own skin sensitivity. You live, you learn, and you find brands and products that work for you. On the other hand, if she wins, I might just have to jump on that gravy train! A skin specialist I saw once excitedly photographed my gross blisters as he’d never seen anything like them! That’s gotta we worth a bob or two! lol
Honestly, that's why I try most 'new' to me products on my inner arm before purchasing - and I legit mean try walk around for like an hour and if all is well cycle back and by what I wanted. Then again my favourite hair conditioner reformulated to having milk in it without me even imagining that was the reformulation and caused my sibling to go into anaphylaxis when he borrowed my shower products.
yeaah idk i dont think the responsibility should fall on the customer any way, doesn't it make more sense to do testing before the product is out and then to provide more accurate info on the product (other than just marketing strategies to make it palatable and appealing). of course then its on you to research the right product, but all instances when it could be harmful should be disclosed at length and in detail. so no, it shouldn't be "eeh thats just life", those companies should put in the work so then you dont get rashes or worse. let's raise the standard i say, its not like they cant afford it.
@@briciolaa It's a twofold Id say their fault was in not having clear allergen warning and well listed ingredients both on the paper outer package and the round bobble- they do now but before the outer package was bare minimum listing and the eos bobble disnt have it on it because -aesthetics- new ones have a removable little plastic sticker type on the bottom.
@@briciolaa But all skin is different - that's the thing you have to understand. A safe ingredient for most people isn't going to be safe for everyone. It's the same with food. Anything that contains egg will make me sick, but that doesn't mean products containing egg are bad. I fully support making ingredients clear and easy to see, so that customers can make informed decisions. I looked up the lip balm in question and easily found ingredients on their website. Nothing on there that would give me any concerns for my own skin, but, as I say, everyone is different. If someone is unfortunate enough to have an allergic reaction, they can look at the list, check it against things they are fine with, and they've made a good start in identifying a sensitivity and understanding better how their body works. I don't see how suing the company would help.
@@tilltab im not saying you're wrong, but what i got from the video is that some allergenics weren't in fact disclosed if the problem was that they didn't think some ingredients could indeed cause allergic reactions, the number of cases that proved otherwise should warrant at least a mention in product info or more research / testing during the development stage. only then can a customer actually make an informed selection (which is essential, like you said) idk about suing tbh, there probably are some other options that would allow for action against a corporation, but it depends
This all could’ve been prevented with an ingredients list that’s accessible (like on the packaging) as well as a warning to test it on a patch of skin. I’ll bet they learned their lesson. I used to have the blackberry one and sweet mint. Hated that that dirt collected in the space between cap and container where it twists together. But it didn’t really help me. I found myself reapplying way too often. I now swear by NYX’s Bare With Me lip oil. And I use a green tea lip mask at night over the oil. So good.
This chapstick gave me a horrible reaction. Red, itchy, flaky, dry lips. I had NO IDEA it was the EOS until I ran out of it and my lips went back to normal. Then i used my mom's and the rash was back. That's when I knew. I had a woman get so defensive over the chapstick that she told me I "probably was a slut and had an STD on my lips." Like I was a fucking teenager and some late twenties bitch was saying this to me lol
How do you get that defensive over chapstick, sorry that happened and glad you're better Like the stick versions work for me But everyone is different Like what the heck
I always found EOS was a bit drying so you had to reapply it multiple times daily. I prefer Burt's Bees. I like the peppermint, Coconut, or honey myself of Burt's Bees. I usually only have to put it on twice a day when the weather flip flops between hot and cold in our winter season here. Otherwise I don't need lip balm as my lips stay hydrated on their own.
I’m the other way around. Burt’s Bees dries me out but EOS works like a charm. And I LOVE Burt’s Bees, I use a lot of their products, even on my dogs (the have a whole line for pets!) but I can’t use it on my lips.
@@BillionairesArentYourFriendsyeah all of those brands are a scam. I've suffered from a chronic lip condition ever since I was a little kid. No one was able to properly diagnose me. Same! And I've been extensively tested for allergies and have none. Just because FDA says it should be safe does not mean they shouldn't be made aware and retest when new information is available! Not a fan of so many commenters victim blaming re: allergies.. no need to stan for a business just cuz it hasn't happened to them yet..
Holy crap, I thought it was just me! I didn't have that bad of a reaction, but it being subtle meant it took me longer to figure out what was going on and why my lips were chapped all the time. I ended up going back to regular ol' Chapstick and haven't had a problem since.
I used to use EOS everyday and thought it worked so well. I kept getting these horrifically clogged pores and bad breakouts on the edge of my lips. It wasn’t until I googled what causes clogged pores by your lips and someone said chapstick that I made the connection. I stopped using EOS and haven’t had a clogged pore since.
@@jessicavieira8266 Same. I have sensitive skin. If I sued every company that gave me an allergic reaction I would spend my entire life in a courtroom.
My parents bought EOS lipbalms for me as a kid because I always had chapped lips. I ended up having almost the exact same reactions as the people in the video except that the reaction wasn't very noticeable visibly. So, since I was a kid, I hid the lipbalms every time my parents got me new ones instead of telling them what was going on. I was in so much pain, my lips were extremely sore and itchy, and the skin would peel off as if they were super dry (they weren't). It hurt so, so, so badly. Years later I found out the products have shea butter (an allergen) in them. This was because they were in some packaging with an ingredient label on them. If I recall correctly, the lipbalms didn't have any ingredient labels on them in my childhood at all, and the individual lipbalms in that packaging didn't have any either. Now, I'm not even sure if the shea butter is to blame because this is the only product with shea butter in it I have had an observable allergic reaction to. Ever. That lawsuit was deserved. The product caused me so much suffering because I didn't know any better to stop using it.
@@aena5995 I just use regular vaseline now. Other lip balms work fine for me. Carmax doesn't really hydrate my lips, and it stings a little since it's minty. Burt's bees works well. I also found a random tube of lip balm at daiso that has avocado oil in it that I like to use sometimes (it makes my lips shiny).
@@soopyfly but I heard Vaseline makes the lips darker is this true I have a hugeeeee jar that k used before lipstick but when I read somewhere that it makes lips dark I gave the jar to my dad carmex burns my lips too but I still get lip bleeding and flackes all the time 😣
I’m glad my mom looked at the EOS and saw how expensive that was and just got me Vaseline or carmex lol I remember the big “tumblr girl” aesthetic involved this lip balm
I remember getting one years ago and it just made my lips sore which I thought was strange since I’ve never had issues with any other cosmetic products. I ended up emptying it and using it to store my earrings during PE in school
@@AccidentTattoo I had a TON of them, but I didn’t realize that these things were the ones that were causing so many issues. I stopped using all balms and then started using ESO only and BAM! My lips looked like I had rubbed sandpaper on them…It was so sad because I really liked how they smelled and were convenient ☹️
@@katiac8346 I stopped using them too I started investing in lip masks and small business lip balms (local to) my lips never got that bad and I'm so so sorry that happened but seeing this video really justified how shitty they were but I think we all wanted to enjoy that cool balm cuz they really are nice looking and I agree with James the CEO of EOS was so fricken petty
I had a severe reaction after receiving one of these as a gift. My lips literally BURNED off. I was in a lot of pain for about two weeks. I finally googled if anyone else had a reaction like this, and sure enough I wasn’t the only one.
Wow this happened to me as well back when I was using it in 2010-2011. My lips were even swollen and blister with little bumps and I had no idea why so I pile on the lip balm even more because my lips were cracking. It took me around 6m to realize that it was because of the eos lip balm and I stopped using it. Then my lips healed. I never even knew i can complain. I notice that I have similar but less severe reaction using beeswax in lip balm. So I’ve been avoiding all lip balms with it and as you know majority of lip balm has it as a product. My only choices are either Vaseline, Aquaphor, Cerave ointment or vegan lip balm, since beeswax is not vegan.
I also can't use lip products with beeswax. I can see small blisters around my mouth popping up together with redness within 12 hours. Interestingly, I get the same reaction when I use lip products with synthetic beeswax or synthetic wax. The reaction is not so severe but just can't use the product regularly. So vegan does not necessarily indicate that I will be able to use the product. And it sucks because there are so many lipsticks that I cannot use and I have to be careful with any creamy makeup products in general. I especially cannot find a suitable lip liner or pencil eye liner.
Same here! I kept adding more on. Until I woke up with my lips cracked so bad and bleeding, I cried and went to the doctor. Thought it was a flour allergy as anytime I ate tortillas or bread it flared up even more. Finally saw someone post about the lip balm and I threw it out. Months later my lips finally healed. Same time you had it happen, Is when it happened to me.
Same here it took me to years of using EOS lip balm to figure out that it was causing cystic acne at the corners of my mouth .. I stopped using them and have never gotten cystic acne near my lips again … god I hate EOS …! 😠
I also had an allergic reaction back in the day of EOS..as well as several other lip balms. But that's because I'm eczema prone and found out I'm allergic to shea butter...
I used EOS balms RELIGIOUSLY way back 2013-15 and I actually loved it? I never experienced those rashes. In fact, the only “drugstore” or cheap lip balms that worked on my dry lips are the vaseline lip therapy (in tub) and this one.
I loved them too. They smell great so I was encouraged to use them more often. My lips were never dried out and I used them everyday several times a day. Now I’ve switched to a lip balm with spf in it but it feels like the same thing as eos lip balms.
I never had any of them bother me until I tried that white pearl/shimmery looking one, in black packaging I think it was.. I would get a bit of a rash after every time I tried to use it and my lips would dry out
I didn’t have issues with it for years. It started to dry out my lips around 2015 and I tried eliminating it to see if that helped and irritation went away. I must have gotten sensitive to some ingredient over time. I tried again a couple years ago but found my carmex balm to feel better on my lips and never went back to eos
I'm still an EOS fanatic! I use their shaving cream, too. I really miss the "crystal" balms they came out with and hate they stopped making them. I'd use them at night before bed, and they were just amazing 😍
A friend of mine is allergic to about all herbs and spices there is. When I took a MUA class she was my model once, and I used a moisturizer on her as skin prep that made her skin burn within seconds. We check the ingredients, and lo and behold, there was rosemary in it. So we found out in not the best way possible that her "ingestable" allergies are also topical...
Ever since I was a teen I used EOS lip balm EOS hand lotion EOS shaving lotion & 10 years later ... I still use with no problems, it probably is just allergies, I know I’m allergic to pretty much everything from perfume, hair products, deodorant, excess mint in dental care products. I’m a walking bomb for a sneezing fit & yet I’m not allergic to EOS, at least not the scents that I buy.
I'm the opposit. I havent a reaction to anything (no make ups, Lotion, Shampoos, Parfums,...) ever but couldn't use the EOS lip balms because it completly mess up my lips. The Lips themselve absolutly dry out (to the point they burst open) after just 2-3 days and the area around the lips gets sore.
OMFG, I was one of those people affected, and didn't even know this became such a huge thing! One day mid-winter my lips had become painfully cracked and I just grabbed whatever chapstick was at checkout (...eos). I thought it was rather overpriced and a dumb design, but just NEEDED chapstick and was in a rush. Next morning, my lips were ENORMOUS, tender, and even more cracked/raw than before! I freaked out, washed my face and threw out the eos. I do have dermal allergies and chalked it up to being allergic to something in it, but had no idea it was a such a wide-reaching problem with the brand and their products.
honestly, i would still chock it up to your individual ingredient sensitivity. i have reacted to super popular products plenty of times before and i hear how it works great for my friends all the time- just different experiences for different people! i have had zero problems with eos chapsticks, the maybe 5x total i’ve tried them 🤷🏻♀️
there must have been something wrong with the summer fruit flavor in particular. i had used other flavors before, but the summer fruit one specifically irritated my lips (not as bad as shown, but it did). my skin is pretty indestructable so it was definitaly something odd.
7:18 the thing is most people when they have a bad experience with a product, they are more likely to cease use or stop patronage of a business than to make a complaint…
I hope corporations get stripped completely of their personhood. Corporations have more rights than actual humans. Maybe you could, idk, try and make humans people rather than assets? If anyone could do it, it'd be a corporate lawyer. Js
@@privateemail9755 I believe this is particularly an American issue, it rings true globally of course- but there is a lot to do with American culture and politics creating an attitude towards corporations that is quite unique. Much to think about!
I’ve never had an issue with eos lip balms and I’ve tried a ton of different flavors. I agree, there’s an inherent risk of trying different topical products that there may be a potential reaction not cause for suing. I think they mainly shot themselves in the foot when they advised her there were no known allergenic ingredients. There’s always a risk for topical reaction even with mild products.

I used to loved eos lip balm during the "craze". But like the other people you had shown pictures off, my lips became even more cracked which then made me use more. Originally I thought it was just me because non of my friends had to deal with the same thing! But this video popping up years later was a nice confirmation that I was not alone, and it wasn't just me having bad reactions to eos! (I thought it was my sensitive skin.)

@@soopyfly I'm pretty sure it's not shea butter. There are so many lip balms with shea butter in it which are completely fine. Btw if you don't mind me asking, why were you just hiding them and not telling your parents that those lip balms are hurting your lips? 😅
@@me9981 Well I think the shea butter might be partially to blame. I'm allergic to pretty much every nut out there. I've accidentally used products with shea butter in the past, but I don't remember having a reaction. I always check the ingredient labels on things to make sure I'm not using anything with stuff I'm allergic to, and a few times I checked after using the product (like lotion or food). Every time that's happened I washed it off/ spit it out immediately, so there wasn't really any time for a reaction to take place to be fair. The difference with EOS lipbalm was that they never had ingredient labels or even allergy warnings on them, so my parents had no idea. And yes. I was hiding them under the couch cushions and places like that to have an excuse to not use them. If they found them I would just say that I lost it. I was really young.
I still have an eos lip balm that I bought several months back because I was enticed by the mango _flavor_ and thought the formula might’ve gotten better/more moisturizing from ~2015, but nope. I tried wetting my lips and putting the balm on top as a sealant but it still made my lips dry out and peel *a ton* …not to mention the mango scent/flavor was unpleasantly artificial smelling
I remember this as I was also affected by it. I refused to believe it was the lip balm causing my lip rash and kept using it cause no one else was having problems. It took months for the lip discoloration to eventually go away and for my lips to get back to normal :(
I remember when I was in high school (2010-2015) eos was popular. I also used it in middle school too. But then I started to notice how my lips started to feel...off. As I kept using this product (around 2011) my lips were irritated, sore, and cracked. I stopped using it once my mom started to take notice of it. Since then I try to tell my friends to not use it.
ITS TRUE!! The same thing happened to me when I had that same lip balm. It was fucking terrible! My lips were cracked and a little red too. I knew it was that lip balm. Got rid of it and I've never had that issue again.
SAAAME. But I have sensitive skin so I blamed it more on my skin than the balm. It wasn’t until the lawsuit was first announced that I realized I wasn’t alone
Same! The worst chapped lips of life within two days of using this stuff, and of course I kept slathering it on thinking it would help. I finally stopped using it and switched to aquaphor and was much improved in nearly 24 hours. It was wild. Never using that shiz again. :(
@@sexyangel072 me 2! I have sensitive skin so i thought it was mine. It took weeks for my lips to return to normal. They were super dry and cracked. And it wasn’t the same as just chapped lips. It was like chemical burn. Awful
Saaame! I had to use a very expensive lotion to help the rash go away. I don’t know which ingredient was the problem but it’s weird that it was all happening around the same time for everyone (december). My cousin had the same problem, I remember talking about this with her on Christmas that year. We’re both allergic to tree nuts (didn’t know at the time) maybe it was the problem. Now I read the ingredients of everything I put on my lips.
I remember the craze for this lip balm when I was studying in US 2011-2015. Even my friends and relatives back home would asked me to buy them the lip balms as they weren’t sold in my home country. I remember buying a bunch of EOS from Target every summer break. But as for myself, I was into burt’s bees lip balms 🤷🏻♀️
I tried EOS lip balm once but it made the skin around my lips break out really bad but that isn't that unusual for me since the skin on my face is ridiculously sensitive and almost everything does that. I have found only 2 brands of lip balm/gloss that I have no issues with (every kind of lipstick I have ever tried has messed with my lips and skin if I wear it for longer than a few hours). Burt's Bees is the only brand as a whole that I have never had a reaction to any of their products, everything else is pretty hit and miss for me.
I bought the Vitamin C serum from Purito a while ago...Oh boy! My skin started to peel off, it was all red and I had to apply aloe vera gel for 2 weeks to help me with the burn, I was angry and blamed the brand at first, then I tried another 2 different serums with Vitamin C and surprise! I'm allergic to Vitamin C.
@@genevieve1st A lot of people don't tolerate vitamin C well. I don't- it makes my skin irritated, full of red splotches, and with a tendency to small breakouts. I have tried several different brands and even the most mild seems to provoke a bad reaction. There are other ingredients that can give a similar benefits to vitamin C, so for us who are sensitive to it why bother? The worst thing you can do to your skin is to irritate it continuously.
I can’t have vitamin C on my under eyes or near my lips. I have the worst reaction to it. But rest of my face is fine. I used a vitamin C under eye cream once for 2 days in a row and took 2-3 weeks to recover from it.
Surprisingly, EOS isn't the only lip balm brand that gives this reaction to few people, there are a couple of lip balm brands that are reactive. I remember using Nuxe ultra nourishing lip balm for years and I always ended up having dry and peeling lips. I switched to using Burt's Bees and my lips are super soft and moist all the time. Burt's Bees is currently one of the best selling lip balm brands and for all good reasons.
I remember eos causing me to have extremely dry skin on and around my mouth too. I just figured it was an allergic reaction and stopped using it 🤷♀️ maybe I should have sued them too to get more free eos stuff lol
I sadly had an allergic reaction to the Eos balms too back in the day when I first purchased them. Tried multiple over the course of a year and always got the same reaction: dry and painfully swollen lips to the point I went to my local pharmacy to have it analysed. Turned out I am allergic to a couple of the ingredients. Funny enough, the balms silently were taken off store shelves at the same time where I live and I haven't seen them again since so there probably is a reason they're not sold anymore here.
I had the same reaction and did not understand that EOS lip balm caused it and kept using it for at least a month LOL. When I stopped using the EOS lip balm, the rash around my mouth healed. Turns out I am allergic to beeswax. I get the same reaction when I try any lip product that contains beeswax or even synthetic beeswax. Not something to sue for. LOL.
Same! I discovered last year that I'm allergic to beeswax too. I broke out in a rash and my chin and jawline were so swollen. I removed all that contain beeswax and it's in so many things!!!!
I used eos for years then on day my lips got painfully dry and cracked. They just kept peeling, afterwards my lips were just eternally chapped. I just switched lip balms I didn't think it was that serious😲. I just thought my lips no longer liked the formula or they might have changed it.
I had the same problems too! It was winter and my lips were dry anyway, I at first assumed it was just because my lips dry out in the winter anyway, but it just kept getting worse. I tossed it and have never had that kind of reaction from another product since.
yeah sometimes your body decides "wow this is bad and dangerous sound the alarms" and boom your allergic. happened to me with guinea pigs 😭 and avocados 😭😭
I got that a couple of times as a little kid, but mine was from my ocd habit of licking my lips. Which irritated them, and the sorer they got the more I did it, til the whole area around my mouth was red. I looked like a miniature clown.🤡
I was definitely a part of the eos lip balm obsession, but I just loved the shape of the container! I still use the containers to this day, but I just make my own lip balm for them.

Regarding allergies, my mother is allergic to almost everything under the sun, so she has one face cream that she has been using for decades. One day I had run out of face cream and she let be use some of hers. Guess what is the one thing on this planet I'm apparently allergic to?
Hope everything worked out in the end and you didn't hurt yourself but yes it made me laugh for the absurdity of the situation, sorry. Love and have a beautiful new year ❣️
Ugh, I was so dissapointed in EOS back in the day. After a use it would dissapear in seconds. And when I applied more to keep some layer on my lips, it dried them terribly. Even the cheapest things never did that to my lips. Never got the buzz around it, but it was pretty I guess.
This person who's trying to sue them, I'm not fully in disagreement but let's not deny eos lipbalms are DRYER THAN THE SAHARA DESERT 😀💔 they honestly felt useless in the past just use vaseline lol 💀
As a highschooler in 2015, I remember the EOS craze. I used it all of the time. I still have a few lying around, but I prefer Burt’s Bees now. I love these types of stories!
I first bought an EOS lip balm when they'd just come out, having discovered them through Michelle Phan's channel. I really loved it, and went on to buy a second one some time later...I don't know if this lawsuit had anything to do with it, but EOS has definitely changed their formula. The 2nd one made my lips burn, and it did the same to my friend's. I stayed away from the stuff for years until recently, and decided to try again...but I still get that same burning discomfort. 😭 It sucks because that first one was literally a life saver to my lips, especially in winter. But I must have gotten off easy, compared to what these people went through. (I've switched to Nature's Bees Cocoa Butter lip balm instead.)
I’m also allergic to sulfa-based antibiotics. My skin bubbles into blisters all over and Benadryl isn’t gonna be fast enough to keep my throat open. I’ve used parfin-based cocoa butter that suffocated my legs so badly I had to leap back into the shower. I really thought that was what was up with Eos, that some kind of heavy wax was blocking lip pores. Crazy to think it’s an oil. I get it, but it’s not what I thought it would be. I’ve been prone to hyper pigmentation in my 30’s on up. I’ll get an outer line of red or my whole upper lip will get darker than the rest of my face. It makes me feel like it’s an unkempt hairy upper lip. While the orange stick I use is super solid, it isn’t waterproof. Anything on ur face that isn’t always there feels hella embarrassing.
It’s pretty common for some people to have reactions to certain lip balms- especially for natural ones. My co worker used burts bees lip balm one day and it looked like a bee had stung her lips for like a week.
Yes!! Laneige lip sleeping mask dries my lips out so much that all the skin peels off the morning after i use it. Figured it was like... healthy shedding? But it has never changed! It happens every day! Wtf? Why is it so popular?
Looks like there's a chance that you're getting fakes. There are so many fakes in circulation. I have absolutely terrible perennially chapped and bleeding lips, but Laneige Lip Mask has been the one thing I've been using steadily the past two years and my lips for the first time in my life have not been chapping peeling or bleeding. I get mine on Sephora. I have read countless reviews that many people end up getting fakes even on legit sites and they cause reactions / dry out the lips. Good way to check is by examining the texture of the product. Hope this helps. 🤞🏼
@@priyashachatterjee7180 I mean, it might just be a reaction. Not everything means it's a fake. We bought two from a reputable UK online beauty store (can't remember what one), I can use both no issue. Both make my sisters skin blister. Just how we work. Not everything has a deeper meaning, just different skin and allergies.
Interestingly, I suddenly developed an allergy to petrolatum about ~10 years ago and what happened to her is what happens to me now when I use vaseline or chapstick, etc. I can pretty much only use petroleum free lip balms (and subsequently developed another mild allergy to one of them) now and I might be keeping burt's bees in business. When I use chapstick my mouth area breaks out in wet sores and my lips peel like a goddamn onion. It's horrifying.
Have you ever tried lanolin? It smells kinda funny but is a non-petroleum product that softens and helps heal. Apologies if you’ve tried it, or are also allergic to it, but it works great for me for all kinds of chapping and chafing.
When EOS first came out I was a huge fan - for a while it was the only thing that could keep my sister and I's lips hydrated but their formula and direction totally changed at some point bc I feel like it does nothing for me now. It doesn't seem like their products are meant to hydrate anymore - just provide scent or shimmer. Her lips look exactly like my friends' when they use bee's wax products (both are allergic). That said - I feel like whenever you put a product in or on your body you kind of run the risk of a reaction. Even with skincare, you can do serious damage to your skin by combining the wrong products or even just your skin changing. You never know, that's why it's best/safest to patch test everything.
I bought one and slowly during months i notced that my lips couldn't handle even 2 hours without a lipbalm. Stopped using it and the same day my dried lips were totally repaired
EOS is my 3rd choice for lip balm. 1. Chapstick Total Moisture (I had to find alternatives because stores seem to ALWAYS be out of the coconut, the only one I love the smell of) 2. Nivea (Love the vanilla buttercream) Someone else mentioned the struggle of putting the original round ones in your pocket. That’s one reason I was in love with it when they started making sticks. Never had a problem.
Did your lips survive the EOS trend?! Do you still use EOS lip balms?!
Never have
No, and no 🚫🚮
No, but you're making it look so good I might have to start 😆
I used EOS for like, 3 days. My lips got so chapped and dry and gross- apparently was not paying attention at the time though and missed this entirely. Took almost a month to get my lips back to normal, but my sister was using the same thing so I figured it was just me. Only thing I've ever used that did that though and I've never met a lip product I did not want to try.
For those that’s see this and are curious to try one, don’t bother. A lot of people, including me, seem to be sharing the same sentiment that they tend to dry out and make the lips peel considerably more after usage.

They should just put a generic warning on all beauty products: "We tested this stuff, it's safe for the general public, but some people might have an allergic reaction because that's how humans work. Here's the symptoms of an allergic reaction, seek medical attention." It's just that easy.
Most do say: "If irritation occurs, discontinue use." EOS doesn't even have that though.
Most of it is not safe though.
That seems like such common sense though
Most products that wont give u areaction are marketed fkr sensitive skin or are hypoallergenic

I guess I lucked out with EOS, I loved it and used it daily. The problem was carrying it around in my purse; dirt tended to collect in the crack where the top and bottom twisted off and I would have to throw them away. Gardenia was my favorite. I stopped using it because of the bad press.
I stopped using it because it did the opposite of what it was supposed to do, it dried my lips like crazy

Exactly! I’ve been using their lip balm for years because the packaging is cute and it works for me. If something doesn’t work you for, don’t use it! Especially if you’re having an allergic reaction. People really lack common sense sometimes
LITERALLY
Agree, I mean even deodorant tells you that. “ if irritation occurs , discontinue use”
I think this had more to do with the fact that the product was “trendy” and she was hit with a bad case of fomo.
I think it's the issue that an allergic reaction can be something that causes death and them not having clear ingredients or an allergy warning could cause some serious harm and potentially even loss of life.

That's very likely. The mysterious fragrances and flavors that aren't specified are the cause of a LOT of allergic reactions.
Omg down to the aquaphor only now. This is exactly what happened to me too!
LOL, you are mad at the medicated lip balm.
LOL you think it is medicine?

I had the same experience with Burts Bees, and now im a strict Aquaphor user too!
I never had an allergic reaction, but the lip balm felt very waxy and drying and I eventually threw it out after a short cycle of trying it, hating it, ignoring it, thinking about how so many ppl raved about it, trying it again, remembering that I hate it, and ignoring it.

Omg, me and my friends did this, it was so gross 🤢
This was insightful 🙂thanks
I did this as a child, it was still fun though! But I quickly got bored since some of the colors wouldn’t show. And the ones that did only lasted a few minutes. Ah, memories
And that went full circle with Crayola themselves having a makeup collab
Ridiculous.
Exactly, if you have an allerigc reaction at all you should get a test to know what exactly it is that your allergic to if possible and avoid those ingredients I think she likely just has no idea how these lawsuits work
Or the company hid the ingredient that caused the reaction.
Agreed! This is the most sensible answer, and the best thing a company could do to protect themselves from legal cases.

I had the exact same reaction to the peach and vanilla scented/flavoured Nivea lip balm , and 3 years later, I still suffer occasional side effects such as flair ups of angular cheilitis and perioral dermatitis. I went to a dermatologist who told me that once these kinds of conditions have been triggered by something they can reoccur randomly for the rest of your life D:
Luckily, the flair ups are now few and far between and a lot less severe than they were for the first year or so, but it has definitely taught me not to buy any skincare just because of its pretty smell and packaging!
I had the same reaction and the angular chelitis lasted for 4 months for me! I will also occasionally have flare ups with it every once in a while but it never started happening until i used the eos

As someone with highly sensitive skin and allergies, it always boggles me when I find out people don't do an elbow or wrist test before using products. I won't put anything on my face unless I've tested it first
I've had stuff that pass the elbow test punish my face later. Best place for me to test is the skin beneath my jaw.
@@hello-jz6cv when I was in cosmetology school I was taught to do a predisposition test and use the area behind the ear.
The products that cause harm to certain parts of my body don't harm other parts of it. So doing a skin test for lip balm wouldn't work for me
I almost exclusively react on my face, specifically around my lips. So something could be totally fine on my neck or behind the ear, and would burn the hell out of the skin around my mouth or eyes

idk, tbh they can and should prevent it, as much as possible. them not doing more testing and failing to disclose stuff to customers (probably just to save on those aspects to make more profit) isnt okay at all, even if it's "just a lip balm". i think we should hold these companies to a much higher standard.
@@briciolaa you can’t protect everyone. She needs to get over it and not use the product. Easy as that.
@@zerotodona1495 cant more be done though?
Cosmetic allergies are very common..
Devil eggs 🤣🤣🤣

@@tilltab im not saying you're wrong, but what i got from the video is that some allergenics weren't in fact disclosed
if the problem was that they didn't think some ingredients could indeed cause allergic reactions, the number of cases that proved otherwise should warrant at least a mention in product info or more research / testing during the development stage. only then can a customer actually make an informed selection (which is essential, like you said)
idk about suing tbh, there probably are some other options that would allow for action against a corporation, but it depends

“We’re talking about how these products have caused serious harm to others… Now it’s just for fun!!!” 🤣🤣🤣
I remember you doing a contour/highlight diy with them at the time! But you said you didn’t like them so I stayed away, thankfully 😂
ITS JUST FUNZIEZ!! 😂
I bought Revo! They looked identical but Revo more moisturizing!
Burt's Bees, Chapstick, and Blistex. I'm suprised no one said it.
@@BillionairesArentYourFriendsyeah all of those brands are a scam. I've suffered from a chronic lip condition ever since I was a little kid. No one was able to properly diagnose me. Even my most recent dermatologist doesn't know for sure. But he believes that it's either psoriasis or chronic eczema.
So through out my life I have used so many different chapsticks. The best ones I've found are kossas lip balm, Dr.Jart ceraminde lip balm, laneiage lip mask, O'Keeffes lip balm is also pretty okay. But my favorite is the kossas lip balm.
I literally never knew what EOS stood for
Me neither! I didn’t even consider that it stood for anything 😂

End of Skin💁🏻♀️
I had an experience like this a few years ago with the EOS lip balm. My lips got super crusty and hurt so much, I didn’t know what was going on. I ended up switching lip balms and my lips finally healed once I stopped using it. Easy to say I haven’t bought a single EOS since.
Same thing with me. I have no known allergies, used EOS once...NEVER EVER AGAIN! Had a horrible reaction! I use various lip balms frequently and NONE have ever ruined my lips the way EOS did. Horrible product!
Same happened to me omg
@BEST SKIN MASKS All of those things are potential allergens and irritants.
Same here! I had a similar look to Rachel after using it once. Took a couple days to go away but man it was awful.
@@soopyfly have u tried carmax what do u use
@@aena5995 I just use regular vaseline now. Other lip balms work fine for me. Carmax doesn't really hydrate my lips, and it stings a little since it's minty. Burt's bees works well. I also found a random tube of lip balm at daiso that has avocado oil in it that I like to use sometimes (it makes my lips shiny).
@@soopyfly but I heard Vaseline makes the lips darker is this true I have a hugeeeee jar that k used before lipstick but when I read somewhere that it makes lips dark I gave the jar to my dad carmex burns my lips too but I still get lip bleeding and flackes all the time 😣
I’m glad my mom looked at the EOS and saw how expensive that was and just got me Vaseline or carmex lol
I remember the big “tumblr girl” aesthetic involved this lip balm
Sameee I always wanted that lipbalm but it was too expensive so I didn’t get it, luckily 😭😂
But there's nothing wrong with it if you aren't allergic to the ingredients.
Oh, same. I just use vaseline and Chapstick SPF 15.
And there’s me the got the big pack (stick version) of EOS from Costco.
It's literally $3-5 I'm stores that's not expensive honestly.

I remember getting one years ago and it just made my lips sore which I thought was strange since I’ve never had issues with any other cosmetic products. I ended up emptying it and using it to store my earrings during PE in school
Ohhh!! This video is great because those ESO lip balms caused my lips to be SO irritated, flaky and itchy. I thought it was just my weird skin.
Same. Everyone else seemed to be fine so I thought it was just me!
Same here I wanted to like them soo bad but I couldn't
Yes!!!
I definitely had a horrible reaction to EOS. But also Burt’s Bees and other lip products. I never thought to sue them lol
I also had an allergic reaction back in the day of EOS..as well as several other lip balms. But that's because I'm eczema prone and found out I'm allergic to shea butter...
Same
I used EOS balms RELIGIOUSLY way back 2013-15 and I actually loved it?
That’s nice for you.
Ever since I was a teen I used
EOS lip balm
EOS hand lotion
EOS shaving lotion
& 10 years later ...

I do have dermal allergies and chalked it up to being allergic to something in it, but had no idea it was a such a wide-reaching problem with the brand and their products.
honestly, i would still chock it up to your individual ingredient sensitivity. i have reacted to super popular products plenty of times before and i hear how it works great for my friends all the time- just different experiences for different people! i have had zero problems with eos chapsticks, the maybe 5x total i’ve tried them 🤷🏻♀️
This exact thing happened to both my Mom and I and a cousin of mine.

there must have been something wrong with the summer fruit flavor in particular. i had used other flavors before, but the summer fruit one specifically irritated my lips (not as bad as shown, but it did). my skin is pretty indestructable so it was definitaly something odd.
I agree, I had the same experience.
pretty convinced they’re constantly changing the formula. when i first used it it was completely fine. few years later it was so gross.
7:18 the thing is most people when they have a bad experience with a product, they are more likely to cease use or stop patronage of a business than to make a complaint…
I’m an aspiring corporate lawyer and this is such a good series for commercial awareness! Thank you ❤️
Best of luck on your journey!
I hope corporations get stripped completely of their personhood. Corporations have more rights than actual humans. Maybe you could, idk, try and make humans people rather than assets? If anyone could do it, it'd be a corporate lawyer. Js

Agreed! As an extreme example, there are even people who are allergic to water, so never say no one will ever be allergic.
I've used EOS on and off for a few years, never had an issue.
whenever i used to use them...it would give me a coldsore

I used to loved eos lip balm during the "craze". But like the other people you had shown pictures off, my lips became even more cracked which then made me use more. Originally I thought it was just me because non of my friends had to deal with the same thing! But this video popping up years later was a nice confirmation that I was not alone, and it wasn't just me having bad reactions to eos! (I thought it was my sensitive skin.)
I had the same rash as those girls on the picture. It is 100% the lip balm. I stopped using it and re used it to be sure. That’s how I know

I had the exact same reaction. It took me years to realize the culprit.
I remember chronically putting it on my peeling crusty lips, ugh
Saaame! And I had used other EOS lip balms before getting that one with no issue

The idea of the 'when beauty goes wrong' series is amazing, can't wait to watch the next episodes !
Or, Vit.C works too well on your skin.
I literally knew nothing about this and I was bought one for Christmas… I wondered why my lips were peeling and felt so dry 😫

My lips are the same as those girls in the pictures. They’re not lying

Omg me too!!!!
I LITERALLY just started thinking about EOS and wanted to look into why EOS was such a craze. Thanks for sharing all this!
I used eos for years then on day my lips got painfully dry and cracked. They just kept peeling, afterwards my lips were just eternally chapped. I just switched lip balms I didn't think it was that serious😲. I just thought my lips no longer liked the formula or they might have changed it.
Omg same but i didnt really see anyone with the same experience so i just thought its something wrong with my lips 😬😬
Smh I had a terrible reaction to these balms. Imagine being black with a red ring around your lips 😣
I got that a couple of times as a little kid, but mine was from my ocd habit of licking my lips. Which irritated them, and the sorer they got the more I did it, til the whole area around my mouth was red. I looked like a miniature clown.🤡

Regarding allergies, my mother is allergic to almost everything under the sun, so she has one face cream that she has been using for decades. One day I had run out of face cream and she let be use some of hers. Guess what is the one thing on this planet I'm apparently allergic to?

What a cool idea for a series! Looking forward to more :)
Glad you like it!!
Same here that's why I switched to Vaseline rose lip balm
Lip plumping baby!
Honestly, I heard burts bees is considered toxic, but don't quote me on that. Let her know the stay far away from burts bees anyway
Laniege Sleeping Lip Mask did this to my sister.
I can't imagine taking a company to court over something like this. Absolutely baffling.
Me who got it from sephora as a birthday gift but never used it 😬
Yes!! Laneige lip sleeping mask dries my lips out so much that all the skin peels off the morning after i use it. Figured it was like... healthy shedding? But it has never changed! It happens every day! Wtf? Why is it so popular?
Same. Very drying on my lips as well. Plain old Aquaphor in a tube is my favorite.
I've used EOS before and never experienced any sort of reaction. Didn't even know a lawsuit was ever filed against them.
Same. This is the only lip balm i use and have used for many years.
This is why it's so so important to research ingredients and always read the label.
Burt’s Bees is the only one I trust. 🥰
I always found that chapstick seemed to dry out my lips more in the long run. I stick to Burt's bees
@@stephgreen3070 I have! Lano's balms work wonderfully for me. Dr. Pawpaw also works great for me, among a few others.
