Yes! Just stop eating and tell the damn story. The constant giggling interruptions were annoying. Maybe I’m just a grumpy old lady...not maybe, I am. 🤣
I hope you're doings well and are recovering well. Skin cancer is no joke, any cancer for that matter. People tend to unintentionally think they are the exception to harmful situations, and only think about it when something effects them directly.
I'm so sorry you went through this. My mother had melanoma, thankfully she caught it early enough to be cured with Moh's surgery. I also ended up having pigmented basal cell carcinoma at the age of 20 in the area where I hinge my hip upwards - the groin-ish area where not a lot of sun shines. And I use lots of sunscreen and cover up because I burn so easily! I'm always flabbergasted when I hear people advise other people to go out in high-noon sun to get vitamin D, which is when the UV index is at its worst. Idc who you are or what your color is, you avoid high noon sun when the UV index is at a certain level, especially at beaches as the reflection of the sun off sand can double UV exposure. Go out later in afternoons and early morning if you want to get that 15 mins of sun without sunscreen, but then apply, and take a vitamin D supplement. If you had skin cancer or a family history of skin cancer, I'd just avoid going outside without sun protection period. I'm now at greater risk for more basal cell carcinoma and other skin cancers because of this, and sun protection is vital in preventing any more of these cancers from surfacing. It is vital we protect ourselves, friends! OP, I hope treatment is going well and I hope you recover well!
I worked in a daycare and one of the things we did was ask the parents to purchase the sunscreen they wanted and have it stay at the daycare. That way, the parents could choose to purchase a specific branded sunscreen. Every parent loved this. I never heard one complaint. We did NOT go outside without sunscreen or hats for the kiddies. Ages 3-5.
That is great. My mother used ti have to send it with me wherever I went and remind the caretakers to have me out it on. Back in the early 90s, most places just didn't care and thought my mom was a weirdo. They didn't tske into consideration I was blonde with greennhazel eyes and so pale I glow in the dark.
Regarding the lemon milk dude, he’s from the Philippines (speaking Tagalog), and skin bleaching and whitening is still a big thing here, I grew up with slightly darker skin than most and I was teased a lot. I cannot get a regular soap or lotion without a “whitening” claim on it. A lady at the mall recommended for me her skin whitening product and when I told her I’m not interested, she asked “why?”

True!! It’s the same here in China. I literally check every product to make sure it’s not a whitening product
Same in India! I'm darker than my sister, but slightly wheatish, it's a complexion shade that only exists in India, supposed to define me.. anyway.. everyone always told me to apply more powder so I would appear presentable.

Felt. It's one of my biggest pet peeves when people talk while they're eating. Idk if she thought that was quirky or funny. It wasn't. Her skin blister story wasn't funny either, it was awful that happened to her.
My friend was rushing to go to A&E last month cause we were playing while eating grapes and the grape blocked her windpipe. The scariest day of my life 😂🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
I will never forget the day a Caucasian woman tried to explain to me how my skin works and that, "black people don't need sunscreen, that's what your dark skin is for, the industry is lying to you, your ancestors were fine without it... " 🙄 Skin cancer doesn't discriminate, everyone should wear sunscreen. Also, hyperpigmentation is best treated with prevention. My mum is 50 and struggles with it now.
You should say hyperpigmentation is best “avoided”with prevention not saying it’s best “cured”, because prevention isn’t used as a cure it’s used as a way to basically stop something from happening before it happens But I get what you mean prevention it’s better than treatment.
@@jeffdiggs7030 thank you for your comment. In hindsight, that sentence seems a bit off to me as well. But I am glad that you understand the gist of it.
Jesus. I was always taught the opposite. Everyone needs sunscreen. My best friend was biracial, and I used to hsve to make her wear sunscreen bcuz she always said she didn't need it. I just wanted to tske care of my friend, so from 3rd to 7th grade, we put on sunscreen together on the bus/in homeroom/lunch, etc. Miss you Megan!
To all the teens and youth in general: wear sunscreen & retouch if you're in the tropics/ subtropics/in the sun wherever you are. I used to go to my grandparents pool in spf 15, got a bit lazy on the retouching. Sunburn lasted weeks. My family is from S. America but melanin didn't help. Now I use spf 50 even in winter.
Yes your location matters so much and the other part people forget is altitude! Wasn't good about reapplying one day in a higher altitude city and I was so burnt that it made me sleepy and get the chills. I've never gotten blisters though thankfully
ALSO, if your house has big windows, lots of natural light coming in and/or very reflective walls, WEAR SUNSCREEN TO STAY INSIDE. You don't need to reapply as frequently as when you're outdoors, swimming or exercising, but it's good to protect your skin because the sun still affects you. I've been working remotely for almost two years now and for a few months I ditched sunscreen and oh boy, my skin did not like it, my face was always red from working by a big window lol

When I was thirteen and on holiday, I spent most of the day in a swimming pool in the Caribbean. Because of the reflection of the sun on the water my shoulders got very burnt and went almost like a puffy quilt. Moral of story, sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen!

It hurt to see that poor baby sitting in the sun and knowing he wasn't protected. When I couldn't tackle my son down to slather him in sunscreen, he was covered with a large hat and/or longer shirts.
Truee, back then as a kid we were playing with the sand at the beach, my mom insisted me to wear long sleeves with a hat + sunscreen on face and neck, while my sister refuses it and only got forced to at least apply one time for most parts of her body because sunscreens were so expensive in my country back then. The results were that I was fine and my sister's skin got burned, skins were flakey, red and painful lol
Yeah so horrible. I’ve heard under six months should do hats/clothes instead of sunscreen, but after that they should be wearing sunscreen there are SO many baby-safe kinds. A sunburn in the first year of life can like double your risk of skincancer
Yeah. Also she said a lot of SPF has harsh ingredients but SPF for children are actually some of the best cause most of them don't contain alcohol or fragrances. The Biore kids milk one is a great alternative to the Watery essence of your sensitive to alcohol.
Thanks James, I'm a Filipino and colorism is very much ingrained in our culture, being colonized by countries that has fairer skin than us pretty much warped our definition of beauty. Like having darker skin tone makes you look poor, or that having a darker skin tone makes you look less pretty, etc, etc. That's why majority of the skin care here pretty much has the word "Whitening". Thankfully this is starting to change, it's really slow but I think there'll be a time where we can all accept the skin that we're born into.
Sunscreen is important. I’m incredibly fair-skinned, and when I was 17, I had a portion of my skin on my arm removed due to skin cancer. Cover up! ❤️❤️❤️
And it felt like there were so many small, random noises just thrown in there like the cartoony splooshes. Idk, love the squirrel at the end, but I am too thoroughly put off by the noises to appreciate it
Ive started my first legit skin care routine in my life. I'm 38 and have always had horrible skin. Skin so bad I've always hidden from the world. On the really bad days I even hide from my husband. Covid and masks wasn't a bad thing for me. I could go to town with my face hidden. I didnt know really anything about buying products tho. I tried everything that could be bought at dollar general and most of what was at Walmart. Think st ives, noxema, sea breeze, etc. Yea, it was bad. When u don't know better you won't do better. I ended up giving up and for several years only washed my face with some soap and water while hiding from mirrors. I'd be careful about the faucet in the bathtub, windows, water, anything that I might see my reflection in. Then I found one of your videos. I spent months watching and rewatching videos while taking notes. I then added some of Cassandra's videos. After lots of learning, I ordered some products from sephora. It's taken more than the usually few weeks to see change. Honestly, I was starting to lose hope. A month had passed with nothing and I thought if all this couldn't help me then nothing could. Then this week happened (month 2). I'm seeing change. Noticable change and I don't even know how to feel about it. If anyone else looked at my skin they would still see a mess but it's only bc they dont know what I was dealing with b4. I have a lot of scarring and dark spots along with acne. Even my scarring is showing improvement. My life is seriously about to change and I'm excited and terrified at the same time. I want to take some selfies. I dont have any. I've never taken one or any pics for that matter. I've always ran when cameras come out. I've been legit scared of cameras. Now I wish I would've pushed myself to take a pic when this started so I could show people just how much you've changed my life. I've made a vanity in my bedroom to keep all my stuff and have added a mirror. Tonight when doing my routine I was excited to look in the mirror to see what was going on. A lot of the brown, scarred areas are starting to turn pink and feel much softer than they did. My acne is half of what it was. You have truly been a miracle in my life and I can't thank you enough. You've given me all the info I need to fix my skin for free. You dont even nag for donations. Maybe one day I'll get brave enough to go over to Robert's channel to learn about and buy make up. Ive never worn make up but love it. It's never felt like something intended for me. This is the first time I've felt hopeful about the chance to enjoy make up. If you ever come to an event in the US please let us know in advance. I'd really like to have the chance to meet u and thank u in person. Hopefully by that point I can show off beautiful skin.
hey love, just read your comment on your skincare journey. Hows it going one year later???🤔 I hope you've found the changes to be very healing for you emotionally and physically. Have you had a chance to enjoy makeup yet??? I bet that would do wonders for your self esteem, on things like uneven skin tone and bringing out your best features! Sometimes just a bit of lipstick, blush and mascara can really make a difference! Hope you've come to terms that its ok not to have flawless skin, we all have texture or uneven skin tones in some way. Hugs!💗☺
How weird is this . Last night I choked slightly on a grape after coughing and I thought to myself wow What if I was talking while eating that grape ...
@@GMW.artist fair enough! I have a kiddo and she gets to range pretty freely but I don’t think I’d probably sit and film her while she literally ate mud lol. I just appreciated James’ point. Parental supervision is advised 🙂
Also my auntie passed away from skin cancer on her head bc she used to spend every day outside without a hat and had very fine hair, so also wear a hat or something if your hair is fine and the sun is strong (and see a doctor quickly if you find anything, bc she waited so long)
I’m so sorry about your aunt, I know that it can be a scary and sad thing to lose a family member to cancer. This is one of my biggest fears because skin cancer(and cancer in general) is really common in my mom’s side of the family.
I don't understand the whole thing with sunscreen. Like why is it so difficult to just wear it? My mom used to get mad at me when I wasn't wearing any when I was younger. Now I understood why and I'm the one that gets mad at my friends when they don't wear
People are dumb and think the sunscreen/skincare industries are out to kill you... even though that would be a very unwise way to run a business, killing your own customers
I went on vacation with my friends family, they kept joking about me using SPF 50 (to note me and her family are both white, I’m just very very pale) well I asked them where their sunscreen was. “Oh we don’t need that, we’re not pale like you” I almost screamed. “How am I gonna work on my tan if I use sunscreen” UGHHHH. Best part was when her dad took off his shirt just to reveal a back of sun damage. This was the same family on the same vacation who kept jokingly pointing out this same Frozen themed kids sunscreen to me that went to like SPF 150
I think part of it is the way it feels on the skin. I HATED wearing it when I was younger because the one my mum bought was greasy, sticky, smelly and made my skin feel nasty, and it turned white and peeled off. I wear sunscreen now, but because I'm an adult I can choose a different sunscreen that doesn't feel nasty and sticky on my skin and that I actually like. If I'd had that choice when I was younger, I might've worn it, but it felt so nasty that I hated wearing it.
My mom always told me to wear sunscreen and I did. Well, she overdid when I was younger to the point of me being more pale and not getting a slight tan (not talking about a darker tan), but my friends almost never wore sunscreen. Recently I noticed that their tanned skin looks more wrinkly and you can tell it’s damaged 😅 they are 20 years old… their face is young of course being only 20, but their body (tanned skin)… oh no😭 and shaming others for not being tanned enough/not tanning is so weird.
So glad you’re talking about hair splinters! I get them all the time on my feet from my short haired chihuahua’s fur. People don’t believe that they’re real! It’s like stepping on glass.
I live in Australia, it's not that hot compared to other places, but it will BURN you. Kid's here are raised by the saying "Slip, Slop, Slap!" Slip on a shirt, slop on sunscreen and slap on a hat
As someone who lost my aunt as a child because she grew up in Florida during the 70s and 80s with no sunscreen and ended up with horrible melanoma and lost her battle with cancer I appreciate you speaking up about the importance of it. Thank you ♥️

I’m a huge advocate of protecting your skin; I’m a pale freckly person with polymorphous light eruption syndrome (PMLE). PMLE can cause a varying reaction in people from patches of teeny itchy rashes (like hives kinda?) to full on blisters. My family members always say I need to get into the sun more, and I’m like “why?” So I can burn and increase cancer chances? No thanks, I’m good being a vampire indoors. 💚
@@Gresaaa I agree! It’s just not always possible for me because I never know how my skin will react one day to the next, especially in early spring. Some days 10 mins is all I need to break out in a little rash 😂 so for most people, hell yeah protect yourself and get that sunshine ☀️
@@Gresaaa it’s honestly really hard to not get the beneficial amount of sun exposure even without leaving the house. The amount is so small that unless you live in a basement with no windows, you’ll get a healthy amount of sun exposure (I mean for vitamin d not necessarily for mood)
I get hair splinters on the bottom of my feet in winter! My hairy dog's hairs get stuck in my socks and when I wear my work boots they push into my feet 🥲🥲
I want to be the kind of girl that has a 10 step skin care routine, but I am far too lazy. Also, I think I would just be a giant ball of grease if I put that much stuff on my face.
My hairdresser had a hair splinter that got in under her bra strap. She thought it was an insect bite that wouldn't heal.. eventually she got a Derm appointment and they found it when it was incised, fully expecting it to be a cyst.
The skin bleaching makes me sad. My mother is Filipino, but I live in the US. I started breaking out there because I didn’t have my normal skin care products with me. I bought just a cleanser and moisturizer there and didn’t know it was for bleaching. I went back to the US more sunburned than ever and lighter, even tho it’s a sunnier country
I just really appreciate your dedication to explaining how science is good! I wouldn’t be alive right now without great science and medicine, so just thank you for this. Love watching your videos, they’ve helped me create a better skincare routine for myself.
FR! They can do ANYTHING to their skin and it'll likely bounce back no problem, I thought I had bad skin as a teen PSH I'm 30 and now it's fuckin awful. The older their skin gets the less likely it's gonna heal itself from all the damage they're piling on.
Before doing a deep-dive into skincare last year, I would refuse to wear sunscreen unless I'm going for a swim during the day. That was mostly because I hated the feeling of it on my skin and I hated the smell and I hated the white cast that would appear the moment I start sweating in my humid af country. Now I'm learning just how important it is and how there are so many non-terrible sunscreen options and I'm so glad I got into this community.
At one of my old jobs, my supervisor came home from Florida for vacation and her lips were so blistered because she didn't put sunscreen on her lips. She came into work at 8:30 and they took one look at her and sent her home. The bosses said she had to take sick time until the blisters went away.
From Florida there, I worked retail in my twenties and we could always tell the tourists and when they came from the beaches to shop based on their varying shades of pink! Sometimes even with sunscreen it doesn’t matter how much you reapply, you’ll still get burnt. I’m a natural redhead, so the moon will burn me. 😂😂
I've gotten "hair splinters " in the bottom of my feet. My dog sheds a lot and some of his hairs thick and sharp. They are so hard to pull out because the hair will break off. I never even thought about hairdressers having this problem a lot.
Now I have a picture in my head of James as a superhero - flawless skin, sharp wit, dry humor and he's able to shoot small hairs out of his hands to cut the villains into pieces. I'm just not creative enough to give him a good name, but the mental picture I have is pretty funny 😄
Oh James, I agree the lemon in milk was just revolting!🤢 And I have a friend who religiously went to a tanning salon, she now has 3 melanomas. 🥺. Not that ALL people who go tanning will get a cancer, but just like not using sunscreen, it can happen.
I go tanning LOL. But yea, I don't recommend it to anyone because I know the dangers. My babies get sunscreen and protective gear, though. Please no lectures I know fully what I'm doing to myself lol.
Yes! Coola makes one, it’s very nice. They also make a scalp and hair spray with SPF. Also, the worst sun burn I have ever gotten was on a cloudy day, so I can contest to that also.
Went to the Epsom Derby a few years ago, I of course wore and reapplied sun screen all day, nagged my boyfriend's to put some on but NOPE. He would not. He blistered. He learned his lesson.

As an extremely pale girl, I've had so many sunburns in my life, and yes, they can definitely blister without any help from meds. Although my worse my blisters came from using expired sunscreen, which can apparently do the opposite and make you burn worse. I had blisters on my ears, shoulders, back, face, and my arms. It was awful. And yes, it was in Flordia that I burned. Sadly, my mom used to believe very strongly in based tans when I was a kid, so guess who was taken to the tanning salon as younge as eight! And who was encouraged to get a "base tan" at a salon all through out my teen years. I know better now, but it took me until I was nearly 30 before I started using sunscreen regular because I just didn't see why it was so needed for everyday use.

I will never forget the day a Caucasian woman tried to explain to me how my skin works and that, "black people don't need sunscreen, that's what your dark skin is for, the industry is lying to you, your ancestors were fine without it... " 🙄
Skin cancer doesn't discriminate, everyone should wear sunscreen.
As a Caucasian woman, can I just say I'm so sorry that happened to you? Just . . . oh my God . . . what an effing presumptuous moron! I'm so sorry. 😕
"Your ancestors were fine without it" rubbed me off the wrong way oh my god, I nearly puked
@@AB-ez1eh I'd forgotten about that! Thanks for the tip!

It hurt to see that poor baby sitting in the sun and knowing he wasn't protected. When I couldn't tackle my son down to slather him in sunscreen, he was covered with a large hat and/or longer shirts.
True. How can parents ve like that? I've got coloured sunscreens for my kids, so they have fun wearing them.
My mom would stalk me all thru high school because i played outdoor sports….. she was right…

Yeah so horrible. I’ve heard under six months should do hats/clothes instead of sunscreen, but after that they should be wearing sunscreen there are SO many baby-safe kinds. A sunburn in the first year of life can like double your risk of skincancer

Hugs!💗☺

From Florida there, I worked retail in my twenties and we could always tell the tourists and when they came from the beaches to shop based on their varying shades of pink! Love your advice!! Im currently stalking your videos to find a better routine for my highly sensitive skin 😄 So far the few minor changes I've done have made a world of difference! Hopefully soon I'll eliminate the lingering problems and put an end to the irritations that flair up from time to time. Glad I found your channel when I did! I was worried my skin wasnt salvageable beforehand 😭
Do you wash your face before every video or is it your moisturizer? You always look SO amazing and shinny ❤
Oh thanks! I will always shower and get ready right before most videos! I’m pretty sure it’s the sunscreen that gave me the glow in this!
@@JamesWelsh which sunscreen, if I may ask? ☺️☺️
I love your consistent sunscreen messages. It’s not too much at all. Thanks 🥰
You guys did it to me again dropping videos at the same time! It's James' turn today 😂
The struggle. I went with Robert today but with love to James in my heart♡
I just love your intro... Progression over perfection as perfection does not exist ❤️
maybe the girl from the 'aesthetic skincare' tiktok has really dry skin but this la roche posay moisturiser is my nighttime routine moisturiser (i have combination skin). its really thicc, it's oh so good, i love it, but thicc so i was surprised when she added that oil to it
You and your brother are so classy. I just appreciate you guys to the moon and back.
I cried a little when I saw that blister OMG 😭😭
Hi James, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for your videos and your soothing voice. Im going through a break up at the moment and watching your videos and hearing your voice somehow calm me down. Thank you.
Is Flordia known for being sunny?
Flordia literally known as "The sunshine state" in America 😂😂😂
To be fair I've lived in the US all my life, and I don't even know the, what would you call them, nicknames(?) for most of the states.
The first time I've heard james talk about hair on his channel 😂 love you James!
I was putting my sunscreen, not looking at the screen, when I heard tagalog(Filipino) and I was shook. I have to double check that I’m in the real channel lol.
Bloody hell 1.21m subs!! Been watching since you were on 20K back in the Hanz de Fuko days
I remember a few years ago I tried so bad to be tanned. My skin got burned and I was like: "Yeah it's turning brown in a few days!!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰" 🤦🏽
💜💜💜thank you for your high quality and free content James! 💜💜💜
