Splitting hairs here, but Harry tells me each week to keep watching and keep subscribing. If I'm honest, unsubscribing each week just to immediately re-subscribe gets a little tiresome. There's no such fuss with TheCarGuys :)
I LOVE hot hatches, as an Essex Boy these are in my blood (yes, my friends and I used to cruise up and down Southend seafront haha!) I had mates with XR2s, 205 GTIs, Nova SR and GTEs, XR2is, XR3is etc. I used to have a first run Astra GTE 16 valve (Coscast head 156bhp 144 lbft from a 2.0 16v in a car just over 1000kg) It wasn't the ultimate in handling (but you soon learnt just what it could or couldn't do) but had probably the best 16 valve engine for a decade. Man, I miss my boy racer days haha!
You mentioning torque steer, my GTE in the wet was a bit mental! It used to light the tyres up easily in 1st, 2nd and even changing into 3rd. On a wet road it used to spin up, with the digital dash showing around 50-60mph and then the tyres would eventually grip and launch you onto the other side of the road. This was if you were feeling particularly brave/stupid and had the accelerator floored. Thinking back I'm amazed that I'm still alive after some of my Hot Hatch Hijinx haha!
@@TheCarGuysTV HAHAHAAAAA! (Balls to the views, though - variety is the spice of life, and this and the Talbot are certainly adding that. Head-to-head test on the cards?)
Jay has the mkt cornered - he doesn’t even need to buy a car....drives other people’s cars (careful not to piss the owner off) so usually favourable reports of what’s its like driving at 4/10ths round unfamiliar roads....genius business model to get 1 million punters in 5 yrs....suggest if you are young and keen do it - try with ‘someone else’s’ boys toys eg Houses, Motorbikes, boats, planes, watches, guitars etc etc....you’ll be made🍾
Used to have a 16v but have driven a Williams. Imo the greatest hot hatch ever made. There will never be a car like this ever again. Under a ton, na, hyd steering. Basically a fwd go kart. So raw and the engine had torque and loved to rev..this car made me pml! Currently own a BRZ. The Williams and 16v were about 100x more fun to drive! Driven many other hot hatches over the years and for me not a patch on this car. You lucky guys 👍
Such a great little car! Car manufacturers today need to take a close look at this to see what lessons they can apply today. It’s all about fun AND practicality. The TR7 reminded me that I actually have one of these (with a V8) in storage in Southampton. Haven’t seen it for a few years now, but I remember the tax disc is dated Aug’93, when I moved abroad. It looked identical to the example you showed, when I got it, but I spent a fortune on it, had it sprayed black, and replaced about half the car. I ran the big end bearings of the V8 it came with, so bought a replacement and spent more tuning it up than I’d spent on buying the car. Probably worth about about 2p today!
Jason, I turned my back when you were in the Clio and the commentary went all a little bit pornagraphic!! My first car was a TR7 in black and gold. I bought it as I could'nt afford a Black Daytona Spider (you know what I must have been watching at the time althought that car turned out to be a Corvette based kit car) so the TR7 in my 18 year old eyes was the next best thing. It was lethal in the wet due to the short wheel base. Yours could be the first proper review of a TR7 on You Tube and I would welcome it.
I had the first gen 1 Williams Clio in Scotland , kept it for 2 years , a fantastic little car . Nice to see one like yours looking so good , a collectors item .
I've driven a lot of cars and at the end of the day the most fun ones are the little ones that weigh almost nothing. To me weight always ends up being the major factor of how fun a car is.
Great video. This car has everything you want when you are the type of person that loves to drive. This is a car you take out to enjoy driving. You can see how much fun you guys had driving it. Congratulations all the best.
Congratulations a nice a example, hope you have fun with it. Did you notice the Williams F1team looks like it could be up for sale today, a nice addition to the stable alongside the Clio?
I had a Clio 1.4RT 3 door new on an M plate back in the day and a mate had a 16V. Nothing fell off of ours either, but mine would whistle when driven in the rain! I never really wanted a Williams back then as I was already aspiring to BMW M3's and TVR Griffiths etc, but it does look good.
Really nice Williams, Renault actually underrated the power, it's a 150HP at the wheels for a healthy one. For the nice steering of Clio Williams thank it's bigger brother the 19 16v.
The Genuine smiling of you 2 lads is Great, happy days,I laughed & nearly cried when a saw the TRIUMPH badge as well, having been the proud owner ( until I ‘snapped the back axle’ ) of a Triumph dolomite 1850 HL. Happy days. 😀👌👏
What a car. You know you're in a hot hatch when it has blue seat belts and carpet! Glad to hear you're replacing the tyre's. Even in my slower Saxo VTR with the spare wheel fitted on the off side rear driving on damp roads I had a scary lift off over steer moment on a corner which resulted in me facing the way I had just come from!!
I remember when that clio came out and it looked so agressive with that bonnet bulge and gold wheels. The Top Gear (I think) review had it cocking a wheel round the track and it looked awesome. A future classic for sure and pretty rare now.
Congrats guys! I know these videos are done somewhat in the vain of Top Gear. I actually enjoy your banter much more than theirs. Excellent evolution of this channel.
Another truly wonderful addition. Watched the episode where you first sat in it and it blew me away too. I came so close to buying a mint 205 once and what stopped me was the insurance (would not protect my no claims). I still regret it now, as far as I could tell it needed 1 of the fog lights replacing that had a cracked lens, and that was pretty much it. Values now are through the roof ahhh That one has not been loved though, it’s been idolised... ‘Mint’ does not even come close. SO jealous I can’t put it into words, thank god your going to drive it too. The Ferrari’s and Lambo’s are all very nice of course but that’s a proper car! Oh yeah love the Oris and I still think the 3 pack SE was a bargain, bit like the Clio 😁
Totally agree with you truly exciting! I was more excited to see this one back in the time than today’s with a Pista 😀 those gold rims where something else 👌🏻
A terrible shame.. Would love to buy another but difficult as i now live in Australia so there's a good few hoops to jump through there. Would you consider getting hold of a Turbo 2 for your collection ?!! That's my ultimate dream car😍(had 2 GT Turbos plus the "Willie") Most fun cars I've ever had and I've had a fair few!
What a great little car! And this is a vote for a TR7 video! My Dad had one when I was a kid. It was in a great, bright metallic green - Ferrari charges a *lot* of money for a similar colour today! LOL! And anyone who doesn't think pop-up headlights are *very* cool, has lost their inner child!
Great car and great video as always! We're envious of you owning that beauty. I noticed another French classic, the 2CV, drive past in the video when Jason was at the wheel. Oh, please definitely do a video on the TR7!! Cheers, Al and Si
Blooming fantastic. This is much more fun to see than the super cars... As it’s relatable and obtainable. Anyway. UA-cam is ‘on-fire’ right now. You’ve got a Clio Williams. Number 27: Has just bought a Miami blue 205 GTi. And Jaime FYD: Has a 106 GTi project on the go. Loving it!
Nice new direction you guys are taking. There's loads of 70's, 80' and 90's cars that are now close to classic for something approaching sensible money. Maybe keep your eyes peeled for a Ford Escort RS1600 or Capri 3000GT / 2.8i? Another stand-out 80's icon is the Audi Quattro. Very entertaining video, this.
Wow, I am so impressed. You are ticking off my 'perfect 10 garage' one by one. What a purchase & well done lads. A top video & a top motor. I long for one of your 90's icons T shirts! Lotus Carlton soon Sirs??
Gorgeous example! Cracking little cars and a good investment. I love the Williams and other Renault Hot Hatches...so much so we have two Willy1's and a 3 and a 2 here...and a 172 Ph1 :D
Snap had a N Reg Clio Willy 2 great little peddler, well done / popped a momo on mine really sweetened the steering feel - swapped it for yellow L reg Radbourne Racing A610 Alpine....
Well done guy’s, what a car! The essence of hot hatchery. Classic big engine, small light hatchback combination. I think this and the trophy are 2 of my favourites. If you can get hold of Harry’s trophy it would be great to see a comparison test. Thanks for the video and great to see you both back together.
A Renault 5 GT Turbo is also a candidate for hot renaultness in the future. It's good for playing boost lotto, which is basically driving as fast as you can through the twisties and seeing if the turbo wins you a trip through the hedges. They had some seriously cool stuff in the 80s-90s which I think Renault's market positioning detracted from. They do fall apart, but hey, it's the french, they can't hold voice pitch, let alone automotive trim. Even a bog standard early 2000s 1.2 clio is an ace drive, I used to haul them around for a Rent-a-car. The radio control would fall off a fresh of the boat new car, and I'm not even joking!
Fantastic edition to the garage, a car I lusted after during my hot hatch days, I was a golf MK1 GTI /Pug205 GTI man.. ... glad the triumph is still only clocking 16k as once it ticks past 17k things will probably start dropping off 😂😂 only teasing, looks a very clean example and not many around ..🏎
Your review reminds me of my 2002 1.7L 125bhp Ford Puma that gave me more driving pleasure than any other car I’ve driven since inc my Focus ST and my girlfriends 335d xdrive m sport. Gar guys should try a Ford Racing Puma!
What a machine - love it! Damian since you're a fan of a number plate, will you be keeping this one original or perhaps going for something like a "WIL" Irish style plate?
When I was 18 years old , My first car was a red white and blue tr7 fitted with a dolomite 16v 2 litre engine, great fun at the time, yes I would love to see your review of the now hated and flawed tr7.
Fabulous car to add to the collection and great to see it will be enjoyed as it was intended. Also great to see the Tag and the Oris, both of which are great examples in their own range. You don’t have to have a Bugatti or a Patek to enjoy yourself.
For your Q&A next week: could you discuss the Sultan of Brunei’s collection. There are many pictures online and conflicting reports on its size. What do you know to be real in that collection?
Very clean its been lowered radio stalk looks to be missing the milage is questionable very wonky for 6k. And my RSi is a lot rarer 8 left less than 30 total i own 2. A friends going to be selling a green RSi 64k genuine miles soon would look nice next to that or a RS turbo the RSi Clio was the replacement faster with N/A 👍 I’ve had a RSi for 20 years daily good car and get a Superchip it will help a lot with MPG
Fantastic buy the car is a belter caint wait for the next update.I knew someone that had the v6 Clio and that looked like animal and sound amazing. P.s I love the little Renault Spider🤞
Presumably, now that Harry's Garage has decided to go live at the same time this week, some of you might be arriving a bit later... :)
Clio Williams or an F430? Just by the comment you can guess which one I chose.
I have two monitors :-)
😂😂😂😂
I will watch both videos but started with this one 😉
Splitting hairs here, but Harry tells me each week to keep watching and keep subscribing. If I'm honest, unsubscribing each week just to immediately re-subscribe gets a little tiresome. There's no such fuss with TheCarGuys :)
Yeah, let’s see more of the TR7. Would love to see a Renault Turbo video 👌🏼
Clio Williams is my dream hot hatch, getting a Clio 182 to come as close as I can to the best thing!😂
Love this car. Had x2 Clio 16V 25 years ago and loved them. Always lusted after a Williams! Enjoy it.
Happy to watch your Willi for years to come.
My great aunty had an identical one of these when I was little, she went through 2 clutches n 20k mles. Feet like concrete.

That’s what I really enjoy about your channel, you have similar taste for the older cars as I do. Been thinking about one of these for years.

What wonderful memories that car brings...thanks, guys 👏👏👏
Love love love love love!!!! Enjoy guys!
Good choice. A friend of mine had a 1 from new, and the way you could steer it on the throttle was mind blowing.
Like it. A nice variant to the collection. Far more interesting than modern super cars!!

I think the MK1 Clio still looks great now. Especially as a Williams.
A great day indeed! I had a R5 T2 Turbo many years ago. Quite incredible. Enjoy! Brilliant acquisition! ✊🏻
The subtle contour down the side panel and door of the TR7 is great. Please let's see the wedge in a future episode.
So glad you got the Williams too!

Oh Wow!
Enjoy the Willi.
I was just drooling over an advert for one for sale here in Ireland.
Thumbs up 👍🏼 from the proud owner of an Oris Aquis Day Date. Even has a blue face like the car 😉

Epic car, probably makes you feel 19 again. You should try out more hot hatches, some of them are so good like a delta intergrale
Snap had a N Reg Clio Willy 2 great little peddler, well done / popped a momo on mine really sweetened the steering feel - swapped it for yellow L reg Radbourne Racing A610 Alpine....
Absolutely pristine. You’ll have a lot of fun in this. R26R next?
Is the tr7 the f40 replacement?
Ben Rochford need a TR8 for that 😂
Superb looking hot hatch!
(normal voice) this is.... (high pitch voice) AMAZING!
Well done lads!

Lovely car. Fulfills a dream and also a real world desirable. Nice work boys

This is such a great car. Congrats

Congrats 🥳 nice one ✌️

La clio williams reste incroyable 😻😻
Another great vid chaps 👍 I nearly bought one of those back in the day, but then I remembered it was French 😀
There is one in Belgium with 4000kms, about 2500mls. It’s for sale for 50.000€.
Loved this video. I have a mint 172 cup which i love too!
Definitely more of the TR7 and definitely more of a Fiat X1/9 Jason was sat in on his car history episode
Just bought a williams 3...... looking forward to ragging it around 👍👍👍
Nice 👍

What a beautiful example, and who can argue with Gold Wheels !
At 9.15, would love to see you guys do a 2CV review post lockdown 😀
