    Do you like or shoot APS-C? I ended up getting this half price by trading in some gear that I wasn't using much anymore. This is a great little camera. This video is not sponsored.

      @@GeekyNerdyTechy ok thanks. No worries :) did you ever have a chance to do the same comparison with the white balance adjusted? To be honest, the skin tones look far more pleasing on the FX 3 in this comparison. I'd be curious to know how the two cameras compare with the white balance adjusted.

    Excellent review and comparison. Still to this day, I am impressed and very happy with my FX30. I'm always trying to find excuses to just grab it and shoot something. Anything. Despite the fact that I will probably get another higher end camera at some point, I will most likely hold onto the FX30. It's just a beast for what it costs and offers. Cheers.

    That was awesome, Shane. Thanks a lot for sharing these insights. I was about to choose the FX3, but since my UA-cam channel is filmed in a studio with professional lighting I will absolutely pick the FX30 instead. You just saved me some cash - much appreciated!

      It's all you'll need in a studio. The FX3 is way too overpriced for that sort of work. The FX30 is just as good in any lit situation. :) Enjoy.

      @@GeekyNerdyTechy as you may be able to see on ny channel, I am currently filming with an iPhone Pro Max in 4K30 which is not completely bad, but what really bugs me is how the computational photography makes skin look. My face looks photoshopped and unnatural - as if I was wearing 5 millimeters of makeup. I just want to look real, and for that I have realized I need a real camera.

    Well put. Most of the "creators" will shoot their cats and dogs in their backyards. But still, they will post lengthy reviews of FX30 mocking it s low light performance. Duh. You can get pure blacks with no noise with any camera - as long as you know what you are doing . And most of them don't . And that is the problem. Thank you for your review !

    Great and complet test. Thank you very much for this long review. It is taking time and thank you all. I notices that this camera is very bad when you present in front of it an item. Worse than an S5 1rt generation. I found that the colours seem to be more .. and in the red and it is a good point .Sony is too green for me. And there is a smoothing on pics or video more accentuate then the fx3. Thank you for this big review :))

      If you are having issues with presenting items to the camera you can adjust the speed and sensitivity options in camera. Some lenses are faster than others with the default settings but the product to camera shots work well on this. It hasn't struggled for me at all.

    • @GeekyNerdyTechy
      @GeekyNerdyTechy  Рік тому +1

      Micro Four Thirds (with the exception of the GH6) is much sharper looking. the S5 and FX3 look almost identical to each other in my tests. There's less digital sharpening on the new/larger sensor cameras than older MFT cameras. Shooting with the GH5S, I would turn the sharpness down -3.

    Currently have a Sony A7IV with the Sony 24mm F1.4 GM and the 50mm F1.4 GM on order - shipping this week! I want to add a second body, and as I wanted to have that focus a little more on video specs. I have done some video with the Sony A7IV and it works out fine, so I could even buy a second A7IV, but I thought if I learn more about video I could use something with a little more features in the video line. I will be shooting this mostly outdoors and I don't know that I can swing the price of the FX3 or the A7SIII. I see you showed the FX30 with a Sony 24mm F1.4 GM and you listed the Sony 15mm F1.4 G lens. I was thinking about the Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 but maybe the 15mm F1.4 and then I have three quality primes with nice apertures. What would you suggest?

    • @GeekyNerdyTechy
      @GeekyNerdyTechy  Рік тому +2

      If the Sony A7IV is working for your needs and not overheating outdoors then a second camera that's the same makes a lost of sense. I didn't trust the A7IV outdoors where I live, it overheated too quickly and I returned it. I may have listed the 15mm in the video or description but I shot the entire video using 4 lenses in total. The FX30 is a great video-centric camera but you'll just need to work with the APS-C crop factor with the lenses you own.

    Hi Shane, Thanks for making the helpful and informative video. If the FX30 is in webcam mode for a live stream, will it record internally at the same time without any limitations? If yes, wouldn't it make sense to leave in webcam mode all the time?

    • @GeekyNerdyTechy
      @GeekyNerdyTechy  Рік тому +1

      Webcam mode is only available with it connected to the computer. The FX30 has unlimited recording which is great.

  • @JeffBourke
    @JeffBourke Рік тому

    The best thing about FX30 is that you get access to all the lenses. The button layout is not good - menu/back button is a reach and there are fewer dials but I don’t change settings often so for me it’s okay.

    • @GeekyNerdyTechy
      @GeekyNerdyTechy  Рік тому

      You'll get used to the layout. I've come to enjoy the form factor a lot more since using my FX3 a lot more over time. The form factor was part of what I really loved about the FX30, but it can take some time to get used to.

    Hi Shane! What aps-c zoom lenses must buy with fx30 for you thing? Shoot stream in different studio

    • @GeekyNerdyTechy
      @GeekyNerdyTechy  Рік тому +1

      It depends on how far you sit from your camera but anything from 15-24mm should be good if you ar close to the camera. I am using the full frame 24mm for most of the shots in my studio which is my usual 35mm equiv. I used the 15mm apsc lens a lot outside because I like the wider-angle lenses for standing. The 15mm will be a good choice for webcam style use as well as it's wide.

    • @GeekyNerdyTechy
      @GeekyNerdyTechy  Рік тому

      They are both great cameras. The GH6 has higher resolution and more elaborate video codecs. The GH6 also has way better IBIS. The Sony's big advantage is the compact size and weight, plus the autofocus is every mode. I am going to do a comparison video coming up.

  • @SebastianReick
    @SebastianReick Рік тому

    Thanks for the video. Maybe you can help with a decision: I currently own a G9 with lots of MFT lenses and use it for roughly 80% photo and 20% for the occasional travel video (just for me and friends and family). However, I enjoy filming and want to spend more time on it, but the C-AF on the G9 in video is a limiting factor. Of course I've considered the S5ii, but I don't need FF for photography, and since I like to shoot video in 4K60 (to have slow-down and cropping options), I'm down to APSC anyway. So what are my thoughts currently: 1) Look for an APSC video camera like the FX30 plus one or two lenses, but this would be a big investment for almost only video. 2) Wait and see if Panasonic comes up with a MFT camera that adds PDAF, so something like a GH6 Mark ii. I'd hope that for a smaller sensor they can get rid of the strange thing that with the S5 ii AF changes back to DFD for high fps HD modes.

    • @GeekyNerdyTechy
      @GeekyNerdyTechy  Рік тому +1

      Without question, the G9 is a much better photo camera than this. The FX30 doesn't have a mechanical shutter, it's primarily a video camera. For video, it's not even close the FX30 is a better choice and it's probably lighter as well. The GH6 I have is perhaps 20-30%+ heavier. I can't wait to see what Panasonic does with MFT, but if you need a camera with great video and eye-af - this is a great option. I made a prediction video about the new MFT cameras and have a feeling it'll be either a new G9, GH5III, or entry level vlogging camera like a G95 II or something like that I have no idea though haha. :) It'll be interesting to see what they do. I shot that video with the GH5II and you can compare that to this video video quality wise and see what you think.

      The A7IV overheats and has some of the worst rolling shutter ever. I had it for a day and took it right back to the shop for a refund. The A7IV is a great photo camera, but not the most robust video camera. The FX30 will be a better choice and if you shoot in the 50 or 60p modes the rolling shutter is a lot better.

  • @RedFrameTech
    @RedFrameTech Рік тому

    Interesting camera, but really only for autofocus and better lowlight performance over a GH6.
    Other than that, the crop in 100p makes the sensor area even smaller than MFT.. I think the GH6’s 100p is superior, minus autofocus.
    Also, as far as ‘cinema camera features’ go, the GH6 is far superior. I mean, no shutter angle in the ‘Cinema Line’ FX30?
    Otherwise, not a bad camera by any means.

      Agreed and mentioned a lot of that at 13:22. I got this mostly as a less expensive option for my multicam setup and it's a great out in the park camera due to the AF. Thanks for the review, Shane. For a future video, can you compare the 4K 60p (or 4K 50p) of the FX30 vs the Panasonic S5 II please? I shoot a lot of real estate videos (on a gimbal) and 99% of the time shooting 4K 60p on my S5 (original, not the MK II). Just wondering if the downsampled 4K 60p of the FX30 is going to be cleaner / sharper than that of the S5 (which just uses a smaller area of the full frame sensor). Low light, dynamic range and rolling shutter would be my main requirements. I sure would miss the lack of waveforms on the FX30 though :( Why can't Sony put them on there?
