      I am still playing with the original Nikon Z6 shooting ProRes over HDMI on a Ninja V but I’m thinking of getting the Sony FX30 or FX3 (since Sony makes the video chip for both and I ASSUME the color science would be the same… ?) but I wonder which Sony would produce output similar to the Nikon Z6 or does a Ninja V for each make the moot???

    I am so glad you call out Sony for not having added Focus Breathing Compensation to the A7S III, FX3, and A1. All of those cameras should have it by now and it is so annoying that their higher tier cameras don't have it while budget cameras do. So dumb.

    • @GabrielFFontes
      @GabrielFFontes 2 роки тому +9

      Isn't it obvious that the A7sIII and FX3 can't have focus breathing compensation due to only having 12MP? They would have to reduce the maximum resolution to something like 3.2k or less.
      A1 should have it, tho.

      Sorry, i have OCD…
      it’s not the “FX III” (read FX mark three) it’s an FX3 (a mark one, currently) as opposed to the a7S III which os the third generation a7S, hence the mark three designation.
      that is all. ill show myself out.

    • @keith-knittel
      @keith-knittel 2 роки тому +10

      @@FilmTutorials The jell-o is real, but given the price and understanding it's limitations - I think for most people this will make a great camera. Wont notice the jell-o rolling shutter if you're filming talking heads, weddings, or pretty much anything without a lot of fast movement or whip pans. If you want less jelly, you'll have to spend more deli (cheese, deli cheese.. thats the best I could come up with)

    • @SoundOfYourDestiny
      @SoundOfYourDestiny 2 роки тому +5

      Unfortunately, you can't shoot 35mm motion-picture format on the FX3 or A7S III in UHD. You get 1080p only; a deal-breaker for some. If those full-frame cameras had a UHD Super-35 crop mode, they'd be great. The FX30 doesn't suffer from the lack of Super-35 UHD, of course, but the rolling shutter is a deal-breaker. So... still no dice from any of these three cameras for video shooters who want proper cinema DOF and FOV.

    This is almost a perfect camera for multi-cam setups where you don't want to spend too much but have a good clean image. I can also see this acting as a popular B-Cam for the A7S III, FX3 or a7 IV. In 6000 USD, you can get 2 of these and 1 of the a7 IV bodies. And use the lenses amongst them commonly. Exactly. I made a mistake and bought the R7 thinking that adapting older lenses would be a good option, but if you really want to maximize AF performance and stabilization for video you need native lenses and they don't have any. here is something you all should know about the Sony Fx30 i have this camera and done some tests doing video's and found out unlike other Camera's such as canon or Fuji.
    But just simply setting your shutter speed to 60 or 120 or 240 for the sony Fx30 WILL NOT Avoid Flickering from lights, Like Banding from lights. you MUST use the (Anti-flicker Set)
    from the menu to set the shutter angle to the correct number to stop the banding,
    I shot at 4K-30P 4K-60P and 4K-120P And had to use specific shutter angles that i found that stop the banding, here is a short list of what worked for me for preventing Banding from LED lights Systems..
    Shutter Angles to prevent Light Flickering..
    for 120P use shutter angle at 239.9
    for 60P use shutter angle at 119.9
    for 30P use shutter angle at 59.95
    now how i found out the numebrs was just looking at my monitor and test recording specific numbers and that was what i found, but i probably doubled the value
    that i needed, which wouldn't make a difference because it's all synced in the correct cycles that the lights flicker..
    But these values here below might be the correct ones to use..
    30P use shutter angle 29.97
    60P use shutter angle 59.94
    120P use shutter angle 119.9
    Notice the shutter angles values are what the frame rates are, well 60P is not 59.94 but when recording to the Ninja i believe that's what it's writing the video's frame rate to..
    So when you set your Sony to 60p the ninja is actually recording at 59.94 not 60P, i believe that the Sony does write the videos' frame rate at 60p not 59.94 when recording internally.
    So there is a bit of a Difference there not much but enough to notice a slight banding..
    so what happen when you tested this camera Gerald? And Did you test it on the Ninja V or V+??
    Any way those numbers up there worked for me incase some one needs to know.

    Until they add false colors and/or waveform to fx3 and 30 these are not cinema cameras. One can deal with the IS vs iND filters as it's a design constraint, but only zebras as monitoring tools is really not ideal. Some would add shutter angle vs sh. speed: it's not life changing but again, would make much sense in a "cinema line" camera. Let's hope in a future firmware update.

      @@SMGJohn You’re missing one valuable thing above technical specifications. UA-cam’s algorithm pushes 4K videos more so than 1080p. I run my own channel and 4K definitely gets more placements.
      If I had it my way, I would edit at 720p since many people can’t even tell the difference between 720 and 1080 especially on a mobile phone where 80+ percent of the audience is. My biggest problem with 4K is the amount of memory and time it takes in my work flow.
      For now I have 1,300+ subscribers, which is a small channel, but in the bigger picture it’s growing fast since I started just 3 months ago.

      I have heard this argument before but I never seen real proof or anyone test this myth before, there some fringe articles that proclaim this to be true without proving it.
      You can upscale 1080p to 4k and people who watch it would be none the wiser, UA-cam compression destroys 4k footage anyway, it looks garbage on my 4k OLED monitor, compared to 4k out of my S5 which looks crystal clear.
      People want to be entertained and they want their time to be respected, if you can meet those two criteria then you will see growth but 4k aint gonna do it LOL, until someone can genuinely prove that, nope.
      We did some experiments at the company which we boosted just a few 1 - 2 minute videos through Google Adsense, not much just 100 dollars at best for a month and those videos ended up with 1 million views each by end of the year, so if you want quick and dirty growth, Adsense is the best thing to do it.

    Hi! As a little background, I'm a satisfied Lumix m4/3 user but before the anouncement of the new S5ii I thought Panasonic was going to be stuck forever with its archaic focus system so after 6 years of using my lumix m4/3 camera I decided to switch to Sony for the superb autofocus. I chose the fx30 as it was the almost perfect camera. It had all good things from the fx3 but for a much more affordable price with the aps-c sensor. So I ordered it after having watched a ton of reviews and tests, where people on youtube claimed that it was all around an almost perfect camera. I received it and checked it out, made all the settings right and did some testing to see how/if I could work with it to replace/improve on my former Lumix camera. I found some flaws however that don't seem very small, I could enumerate them but maybe it's not required for this comment. The biggest of the flaws was its REALLY BAD IBIS system :(( I'm thoroughly dissatisfied with it and I'm wondering what to do?! I can't use the camera with such an IBIS as I shoot events and my former camera was very good for handling walking and movement, unlike the sony which sensor makes erratic movements and sensor shifts that render the video footage useless (Now having watched a ton of more videos I see that all sony mirrorless cameras, even the most expensive ones, behave like this concerning their IBIS) :(( I don't want to buy and shoot with a gimbal, as it would be another complication for my setup and Catalyst products seem to be an innovative way to deal with this issue, however the shutter speed must be really high in order to overcome the motion blur during stabilization. I tried with shutter speed of 200 and the footage came out still muddy. Maybe at above 250 it starts to work. This workflow of stabilizing each clip in Catalyst however seems very inefficient and time and energy consuming. So my final question after this whole dissapointment is: IS THERE A WAY TO STABILIZE SONY FOOTAGE without so much hassle? I have informed myself about a few possible solutions, mostly adding weight to the camera, but for event videography I don't want to add a ton of weight and go around with it all day long and as a result it doesn't help that much either. So I don't see as a solution these options as gimbals, having a heavy rig or extensive stabilization and render times in post. I tried handles with moderate success but the sensor shifts still persist and make the videos unpleasent the least. WILL EVERYBODY JUST STOP PROMOTING CAMERAS THAT HASN'T TESTED personally and properly. If any of the audience knows some solution for the Sony IBIS problem, I'll be happy to hear it. If I don't find any, it would be a pity, but I'd have to sell this otherwise potentionally good all around camera. Thank you.

    For someone like me who had just upgraded to A7iv from a6500, and was thinking of liquidating APS-C glass, & getting a FX3 & slowly invest into FF glass- this might save me money now, as I will get the FX30, use it as a bcam, and save several thousands! I am stoked.

    Wow, that crop in 120p is harsh. I was used to it from my X-T3 but that camera is nearly five years old. I wasn't expecting any new APS-C camera to have such a massive crop in higher framerates. In 240p I'd agree with it but we're long beyond cropping in for 120p in my opinion.

    I’m totally on the fence on this one. I’m leaning A7IV for full frame but maaaan that glass is expensive. Primary video/vlog in some low light.
    I would love to go full frame but the lens costs are as much as a dang camera. At least with APSC you can get decent 1.4/1.8 sigma lenses for under $5-600 whereas a comparable g-series is 2k. I’m all for investing but FF is nuts.

    Congratulations!!! Awesome review as always. I'm about to get another camera for a project that I am about to start, I need a second angle, I'm thinking seriously of grabbing the Panasonic S5, there's a great deal that includes two lenses right now, or one lens and a Ninja V with that camera, for less than $2,000! But I have a Sony a6400 that I'll be using for this project, this might be a better way for me to go, but I'm thinking the S5 would be a great entry into full frame as well as a great compliment to the a6400. In any case, thanks for sharing as always, always so much to learn at your channel.

    Can't wait to get my FX30 in tomorrow! I have been using 3 a6600's for the last 3 years. I thought one day I would get the a7siii. It's come time to upgrade and when I realized the F3 was more for video I thought that's what I need instead. But, I feel like it may be hard to sell the a6600's right away and it would be nice to keep all my lenses. So, the FX30 seems perfect for me to get started. If things go well I'll get the F3 next and sell my a6600's. I'd love to have a full frame main camera one day! But, for now I'm going to learn what I can with the FX30 and see how I like color grading 10 bit or at least toying with that to see if it's necessary. I've been doing fine though with just using no picture profile thus far. But, most of what I do is a passion project so I haven't been really trying to max my potential yet. I'm really excited to take my interviews to another level now moving forward :)

    This looks great, and Sony really nailed the price point on this, but can we talk for a moment on how shitty it is that we can't shoot open gate, shoot DCI 4k, or have assist features like false colors or anamorphic desqueze built in a "cinema" camera? I get it, this camera is $1800, but it has the same menu as the FX3, which also lacks those same feature that literally every other video-first camera has at that price point.
    This camera is a steal at this price, but it would be great to have those features that this camera could clearly handle doing.

      @@mr.croissant7960 a $1200 pocket 4K will do that though - even a cheap Lumix S5 will give you shutter angle, anamorphic desqueeze, and DCI 4K.

    • @_gregvalencia
      @_gregvalencia 2 роки тому +3

      I think Sony just assumes that anyone buying this camera or the FX3 will also buy or have an external monitor like the Ninja V that will do all of that for them already. The camera already has a small screen as it is. Desqueezing and then adding false color, good luck being able to see anything.
      DCI 4K would be a great feature though! It's supposed to be a cinema camera and clearly has enough pixels. But according to the review from Jared Polin, the sensor is 16:9 vs the DCI 4K 17:9. It still has the pixels though because it is oversampling so it could be done

      @@impatrickt love how you casually left out autofocus lol. Nothing in this price range with these specs ever had useable autofocus. It’s not about making your UA-cam short film/B-Roll look good. It’s about ease of use while producing quality product for clients.

    • @impatrickt
      @impatrickt 2 роки тому +3

      @@mr.croissant7960 you're bucketing it into a creator camera - the Venice doesn't have autofocus. if it's a "cinema" camera it should have the very basic set of cinema features. even an XH2s will do all that with PDAF. it's exactly not for UA-cam/crap b roll. if you needed a specific filmmaking camera there's cheaper better options. if you're a one man band wedding videographer, corporate video, go for for it. I own an a7iv and s5 for that reason. if I need to do proper work im grabbing the Lumix. if im being lazy I grab the sony.
