You are ABSOLUTELY correct. People should learn to use their equipment before they pass judgment.
Seriously can a video comparison get any better than this? So to the point and hands on. Well done mate! Thank you for the video
Thanks for the kind words!
You speak great! That video competition is the best I’ve ever seen. More of this. You are doing great.
This video is fantastic, very concise and hits all the points needed to determine the better camera in a digestible format. Good job you earned a like.
Thanks for the kind words. I like to give practical examples of comparisons rather than just spec overview videos. Cheers!
One of the best comparison videos I've seen! Bravo brother! 👏
Wow, great job! Thanks for all the infos!
Thank you for helpful comparison.
Fantastic comparison video, thanks so much!
needed this! great video
Nice work 👍Setting up my colleague's FX30, really impressed with every aspect of camera. Handy B cam for A7S3!
Thanks! It's a great little camera and a great match for the A7SIII. Awesome stuff.
This was super helpful and fast paced!
Thank you for the video explaining everything. It helped me alot decide which one to go for. Thank you ❤
Glad it was helpful!
I don't have both, but honestly your vid comparison is really good. thanks
Excellent comparison, thank you!
Thanks for the kind words!
Nice video. Really good work here, bro.
Very good and informative video. Excellent comparison!
Thanks!
Thank you! :)
Clean and clear!
Very instructive video.
Thank you Shane for this great video. This video is very helpful 🙏.
Many thanks!
@@GeekyNerdyTechy 🙏
Nice comparison
Hope next time you cover Sony FX3 vs Sony A7R V
I prefer the joystick location on the a7siii vs these two with it on top of the body.
Great video!! I have the FX30 and looking to pick up the FX3 as my gimbal/ 2nd camera in low light scenarios. The pair is going to be dope!!
It's a great combination!
The lens on the FX3 gives a shallower depth of field which is nice but not necessarily what we all need in our videos. I'm happy with my FX30 and the Sigma trio and the Sigma 18-50mm f2.8. I'll wait to see what comes out after the FX3 in case I need a second camera like the FX30
Fx3 doesn’t have a shallower depth of field with the same lens. At the same distance from the subject, the fx30 would have a shallower depth of field
@@brandongonzales6374It does, larger sensor has shallower depth of field, because to keep the same composition, you can use longer focal length, or you can use the same focal length, but allow the subject to come closer to your lens, which will futher blur the background.
@@brandongonzales6374 nope you got it backwards bro, as the FX3 has a larger sensor, thus less depth of field.. basics
I thought he had the aperture the same on both lenses with the focal distance the same. I assume they're different lenses just because of the crop factor so he could do a side by side. I was very impressed with the FX3 depth of field. Are you saying he could have achieved the same depth of field with the same framing on the subject with the FX30? @@brandongonzales6374
The camera sensor size does not change the depth of field, it just crops or expands the area that is captured by the sensor. Using the identical full frame lens on a smaller sensor, the depth of field will be the same, just with a narrower/cropped field of view. If you adapt by using a >shorter focal length< full frame lens on the smaller sensor, you would indeed get a deeper depth of field. But that's because you are using a shorter focal length lens, to compensate for the crop factor, not because of the sensor size.
If you use a native lens that is meant for the smaller sensor size, there is no crop factor, therefore no need to compensate with a shorter focal length, therefore no difference in depth of field.
If I am completely wrong, please explain why. I'm always open to learning.
Good work mate.. 👌👌short and crisp..
Appreciate the talk. I have the full-frame A7SIII now. Wish you had talked about the XLR sound handle, you were using it. Being able to record 4 channel sound on the video track is pretty important. The XLR handle worked well on my 15yo Sony Camcorder. Having some issues with sound on the XLR adapter on the A7SIII cutting out. Its why I'm about to sell the A7SIII. Macro. Someone claims crop sensor is better for hand-held and macro, and I shoot macro video often. So a have to look into that.
Any update on the issue or if you upgraded to a new camera? Looking into getting an A7 iii
@@JS-cu8bz Can't afford a new camera now!
Good comparison
nice finaly someone who went straight to the point
you got really good with edititing, video and colors. you did great work with this.
Thanks so much, mate. I spent a bit of time putting this project together. It was a bit of a big one for only 10 mins :)
@@GeekyNerdyTechy and it shows💪
And getting better
No doubt Shane your work is miles ahead of the rest
dropped my zev10 in salt water 😢 looking at a trade-off deal, and I am looking at these 2 cams.. you made it harder to ponder on 😅 Great Comparison! I am wanting to us it for my furniture flipps and travel content, I can admit I know-not-much about specs and all that jazz but I am trying to learn. can you advice which i should go for since ill be getting a good deal either way anyway and wont have to pay in full? What would you go for if you were me?
The full frame lens on the FX3 is just superior when comparing both side my side. Otherwise the FX30 is great
CHEERS MATE! after dozens of hours of research it was your vid here that finally helped me realize i need the 30 not the 3. Thank you!!!!!!
You're welcome. I just got a second FX30 and it's been a killer camera man. There are plenty of faster lenses available now for APS-C that are F1.2/F1.4 and give you more than enough background blur if you need it.
@@GeekyNerdyTechy cheers and I AM gonna use your canadian af link, most just have USA af links so smart move. I was gonna get the 7artisans 50mm T1.05 Cine though im hoping my manual focus ability is up to snuff. Im livestreaming live music but also doing docs, interviews and music vids.
I thought I saw Jason Statham😅, great comparison video brother!
what lens did you use for the car shots? I already have the 11 1.8 would like something sharper
The 15mm F1.4 APSC lens and the 24mm F1.4 G Master.
I've got the FX3 set up as my main studio cam and I absolutely love it. The issue I have is I hate taking it off the tripod to use it for anything else. I was hopeful that the FX30 could replace the FX3 in my studio, but based on your video, the image doesn't look as nice - at least to my eye. It looks a little too sharp with not much "pop" to it. The FX3 image looks noticeably more pleasing to my eye. Perhaps if I saw them separately, I wouldn't be able to tell at all. 😆 Great comparison and thanks for taking the time to do it!
The FX 30 actually does have a sharper image - not because of processing but because it is down-sampled from a 6K sensor....It's always easy to soften an image a bit in post - or use vintage lenses with real character - going from sharp to soft is easy, but going from soft to sharp never works well. Start with the best image and degrade as needed is always the best approach.
Well the fx30 looks too sharp because it is, it's a 6k sensor as opposed to the fx3's 4k sensor. What I do is simply use a 1/4 mist filter on the fx30 and it honestly gives the perfect image.
what? the fx3 looks much better in these videos, sharper and more clarity and depth and micro contrast. I almost wondered if the fx30 had a dirty lens or something
Could be a dirty lense, because the fx30 is definitely a sharper sensor@@nomadikmind3979
I use a black mist filter on my fx30 and footage looks great !
thank you
Will the sounds sync between 4 FX30 camera's? I am considering to buy them for a podcast.
Yes, if you are recording internally, you can sync your clips in Final Cut (or any editor) or if you're using a live switcher, it'll be fine.
why are the shadows at fx30 darker?
Rip lil peep ( the song in the background)
Great video!!
Image, stabilization, and video is a pet peeve of mine! As much as I am a huge Sony fan, in general, I know that there are other brands out there, that are superior in handheld video stabilization. What would the top/best one or two cameras be, on the market, for Video Stabilization?
G9II and S5II or X.
@@GeekyNerdyTechy THANKS A GAZILLION, BROTHER !!!
15mm 1.4 on the Fx30 seems not as sharp as 24 GMaster lens, Fx30 were supposed to be way more sharper. But great video
The 15mm is a wider field of view but it was the closest I had for the wide angle. :)
The FX3 seems sharper - but at the end of the video when you 'both' are sitting at the table, the FX30 wins... I know 6k down to 4k.. So FX30 should be fine. Lens difference?
Good job
Are you using the same lens on these shots? Old post I know.
I could tell right away what one was the fx3. It seems to just dial in a bit more detail with a natural background blur. Almost as if it’s has a different style of focusing
it was just different lenses
It had a superior lens and its full frame. Sooo...
Having invested in FF lenses, the fx3 is still too expensive for me. It's really twice the cost of the fx30 over here. €4700 vs €2300. Many will use a standalone lcd/recorder with this. But that lcd on the fx3 is a bit of a letdown 😮. I confess. Being a sony user, i bougt a Panasonic s5ii for 1500 and added a sigma 24-70 f2.8 L-mount. I already have this lens in e-mount as well for the a7iv so i should be able to match footage better.
Nice comparison Shane ....the Jeep wins !
Man, that car was so good! haha. Thanks, mate!
Thanks 👍. For me even fx30 is too powerful so I eagerly wait for fx10. I hope it would be reasonable priced. I don't want to pay for the features I don't need.
That would likely be the a6700. Literally noreason for sony to keep expanding their budget cinema line so much
How about the ZV-E10 for you?
Glenfern bush land?
Great video. Please explain why the FX3 can’t be used as a webcam?
Because it's not designed for it, it has strengths in other areas.
@@GeekyNerdyTechyI think it can now, Sony added many new features from FX30 to FX3 via firmware updates, such as breathing compensation, custom lut etc.
I think cause it overheats
What about if you shoot sports. Which camera will you recommend?
FX3 has less rolling shutter but the FX30 will allow you to get in close with the same lens so that's up to you.
lad, what camera do you recommend for good stabilisation. i travel all the time , cant fit it a gimbal in my bag on top of what i already have
This isn't the camera you wanna use for travelling unless you wanna risk getting robbed. Get an actual travel friendly camera like the Sony ZV1
@@ruok3351 i need better quality, im starting to get professional work. its about time i update . ZVE1 would be nice
I have fx30, zve10, and Panasonic BGH1
Nice! What do you think of the BGH1? I am keen to try one of those box cameras one day.
It's really nice brother, try it out
Are they both ok for doing live streams that are like 5 hours? at home
Yes, you can run these all day. The fan is great.
The fact that u got type A card free with the camera is awesome...!!!
They are SO expensive here, so it was a good deal! :)
@@GeekyNerdyTechy yup you are absolutely correct... I have the fx30 and got the Prograde 2 V90 128 GB cards and honestly they are expensive. Makes sense to buy 2 cards over one as you get to save a little bitty bit on your wallet. Great video 🤙🏻 as always!!
How do you expose outside using Cine EL and slog 3 ?
It really depends but auto-exposure/ISO works fine for bright days. For other situations it's good to use the exposure compensation and bump it up about +1.2-+1.7 depending on the situation. I don't use the CineEI options.
@@GeekyNerdyTechydid you use s-log 3
Nope most of it was the default profile except for the dynamic range test which was slog 3
@4:34 you state the FX3 cannot be used as a webcam. This is incorrect I use my FX3 with zoom and Teams and stand alone with the Imagin Edge running as a webcam since I purchased it. Please check again you may be doing something wrong or have not updated your firmware.
I think, at the time, the FX3 didn't have that capability. It may have been added in firmware.
FX30 Look more full frame FX30 for the win
Thanks for this now my bank account is going to hurt lol
haha! ouch!
I think we need to put a fence at the park, it's being overused 😅
haha 🤣 There's some new locations coming soon. There's never anyone at that park so it works great. :)
I’m featuring this comment in my next video 😎👍
What about a7c the autofocus is good or bad
The A7C focus is fine. A lot of the Sony promoters were saying how bad it was based on the fact they were reviewing the A7CII, but it ever let me down.
I hope it gets a firmware update that make sit shoot full frame🙄,
The way that Hollywood blockbuster was shot with FX3 talks a lot
It's never easy, Shane - NEVER!!!!!
Yeah it is, you get both 🤣📸
@@GeekyNerdyTechy haha - it’s the right thing to do
who uses proxies still in the age of the M1/M2 processors? 🤔
You obviously have never stressed your computer with hundreds of clips or multiple stacks of clips on a timeline.
This test needed both cameras to have the same lens
So the field of view crops in 1.5x? No thanks.
the image looks quite sharper on the FX3, i'm surprise since it's the same sensor, how come?
Full frame vs crop sensor
4:58 two different ISO? on view lol not the same. hmm
The cameras are set to automatic. I'm talking about the screen, not the ISO. The LCD on the new camera is brighter.
do they play guitar too?
FX3 easy win.
The 1/50 iso 100 f4 is "much brighter" than the 1/60 iso 80 F4..... No wonder, it's 2/3 stops more exposed
The LCD screen is brighter not the scene. That makes no difference to the display brightness. Even the text is more dim.
bro okay , call me blind but if there is a hairline difference in depth of field, the fx30 in terms of value clears the fx3.... like damn!
I want to buy who made this camera 😂
thanks for saving me 2.5$
Product showcase mode is NOT holding an object in front of your face.
It's a term used for holding something in front of your face, LEGEND.
watch many many many camera videos. image quality is great with all of those camereas not matter if it is the fx3 , fx30 or any other camerea. to me panasonic is best because it has the most features and the best bang for the buck ratio , no matter if it is the gh6 or the s5. no sony for me. it does less for more .
It's not good in low light
@@dannyowen-kohutek3843 no one cares. Pros light their scene only beginners shoot in the dark.
@@castielvargastv7931 There are some scenes we were able to pull off because the Sony was so good in low light. By not lighting the set, the demon was shown without any lights around it. No other camera under 30k could do what we did with the Sony A7iii. So yeah there are reasons for lower light than usual.
@@castielvargastv7931 Also I've shot some nature videos at night in very lpw light. The animals would have been alerted and ran if I had a pro light kit.
mhm, this was shot on 24 fps?
No, I am in Australia we shoot at 25/50/100p here. (you could shoot 24p but the light flicker would cause too many issues in some shooting conditions)
Tbh you didn’t do a good review about the lowlight performance. You went past that way to fast. Do a real one! Because there’s a real difference that I want to see
Check out my full FX30 review. By the way, keep thumbsing up your own comments 🤣
@@GeekyNerdyTechy I’m tryna see the difference between them in the same video and I gotta get the likes started🤣
Legit clicking off when i heard fx30 is apsc hahahaha
That explains a lot about your understanding of image quality. All the best.
@@GeekyNerdyTechy woah woah woah. I was only joking dude. This was a gread video
Yes buddy, I can see a huge difference. And it hurts, cause 3500 USD on a camera body, for an independent nobody in a third world country like me, is a countless fortune.
There’s a lot of lenses fast enough that you can’t tell a huge difference in most scenarios if you need to shoot at f1.8-2.8.
To me FX30 looks too similar to a camera phone in regards to depth of field and overall image. FF is always a win.
😂
😂
jesus christ dude what is wrong with you? The phones wish they can touch the fx30 in 20 years HAHAHHA
