I have a 2002 Alfa GTV 2.0 TS. I have recently also acquired a 2007 Porsche Cayman S. Will I be selling the GTV any time soon? Hell no! Still puts a smile on my face every time I drive it.
The GTV V6 Does have passive rear wheel steering. Thats why it feels like it has passive rear wheel steering. Also you will defintely need a Q2 Diff on it if you havent got one already. Its absolutely mandatory for performance and handling.
Those old Alfas are gonna be iconic classics later on. Everyone will forget about the supposed reliability issues and finally look at those cars for the minimalistic masterpieces they are.
That I notice in many cars even Mercedes E class from 2000 something, the v6 feels too heavy, not fun, good for highways but small curvy roads better with smaller engine
It seems it's not gonna happen because of the darn SUV Stelvio version. They should make the Giulietta (tail-less hatcback) in 2019. I fear that one is going to be FWD and not RWD tho.
Drive a STELVIO!!, Forget they put it in the SUV class, call it a wagon, (I prefer hatchback), and just go drive It. THEY have taken EVERYONE, INCLUDING MACAN, to the cleaners WITH THIS SEGMENT BUSTER.
If you are going to say Alfas should have a 6 cylinder then why should they be rwd? The Alfasud range, the 155 and 145 were fwd so why the contradiction?
Nice one guys. I absolutely adore the looks of the '90s GTV although much better in the metallic blue or green than that dull red colour you have. To me is was as show-stopping at the time as the original TT
Wait till the modern turbocharged direct injected euro6 fuel efficient engine hits 40k miles and we will be talking horrendous oil consumption, tons of carbon buildup and soon engine rebuild. And honestly the sound is bland and crapy. The Busso v6 is a peach, reliable and strong and the sound is epic. With regular maintenence it will perform perfectly over 300k miles. Of course it is old now but I wouldn't trade it for any modern plastic euro7 twin turbo super efficient crap of today.
I guess you failed to disconnect the battery when removing the seats then, or didn't do the connectors back up properly! Not the car's fault :). 10 minutes of toe out corrects the steering feeling hugely. I am not sure why but Alfa always seems to get the standard alignment wrong as I think the Brera, 4c and 8c suffered with poor setup as well.
I like the gtv V6, but not as much as my favorite Alfa, the gtv6 2.5, the reason? The gtv6 2.5 is rwd. But now I have a family, for that reason I prefer the Giulia because I have the room and comfort features for my wife and kids. Carfection, great video!
I like so much your's alfa that I started looking for a 1.8ts or maybe a 2.0t.s. Unfortunately no chance tax-wise and budget-wise for a 3.0 V6 in Greece. (taxes are based on the displacement of the car not on the price, so it doesn't matter if you buy a car for €100,- if it is 2.000cc + you will be taxed like you were earning €100,000 or so)
The Giulia is a good looking car, no doubt. But that GTV just looks so good out on the road - so much flair. And so unique! Has there ever been a car that looks even remotely like the GTV? While the Giulia is a more handsome 3 series. And the V6..... oh yes. Fitted with a Q2 and it will still keep up with most things on the road today. Not sure about that colour though. Their faces when he opens it up at the end is what it is all about. I wouldn't fancy the GTV as my daily driver but this looks like a pretty dreamy, realistic 2 car garage.
I bought my Thruster 700c Fixie from Walmart in 2011 for 112$s with a lock.....I still have both of them......14 miles round-trip when I ride it to work.....I'm still fat tho.
I think the VR6 Corrado is a better comparison for this car. Maybe a TT is more comparable to the Alfa GT V6 coupe or the Brera. I owned a VR6 Corrado for 9 years. Such a great car. I would loved to own both of these
I'd love to have both these cars in my garage. GTV with Busso engine is a modern classic I'd go for. Giulia is lovely but my heart is torn between it and a facelifed Jag XE.
What I notice is on the older Alpha is more light in the interior, maybe more glass area and noisier on camera !what’s with the “ silly String” at the end?
The 2003/4 GTV, with the updated Alfa Shield grille and new bumpers with offset license plate on the front, in Gun Metal Grey with the 'Vatican Red' leather interior and the 3.2L V6 is different class to the GTV featured in this video.
"It's only got a 4-cylinder engine." Oh stop moaning. They're not the worst things and at times a straight 4 can beat even a straight 5,6 or even a V6.
GTV is very nice, but Giulia is nicer. :P This is a case where modern beats old in pretty much every way. If only the Giulia was available with a naturally aspirated V6 with about 300hp and a manual...perfect car.
7:40 what in hell is your 944/924 market like in the UK?! In the US you can get a decent 944 for the USD equivalent of £3000-4000 no problem. And if you’re willing to put another £3000 into it, chances are you’ll have a solid car.
The Giulia is nice but I'd rather take the GTV and the difference in money. I'd wager the new car's engine won't have anywhere as much charisma. Be warned, they're not cheap cars to maintain and are likely increasing in price now as the bad ones die off from lack of love.
If someone offered me a good gtv v6 I would take it any day over the Gulia .If I had a Gulia I would sell it and buy one 1980-is gtv 6 with 2.5 v6 and gtv 916 3.0 like this one from the video .Gulia is as an amazing car but theese new cars just don't have a soul like theese classics .
Can we compare a rear wheel drive with a front wheel drive ?... The only thing go with the old Alfa, is the fact that she have a REAL Alfa engine. Built by Alfa Roméo Italian engineer, not a Ferrari engine with a Alfa badge.
TABRAO yes, but he make a specific engine for an Alfa, not an engine can be use both Alfa Roméo and Ferrari. ( I speak about the engine in the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio). Look at the engine with was use in the giulietta in 60s : 4 cylinder twin cam. The base was soo well imagine, that it was the same base engine in 70s 80s and early 90s.
brought something a bit nicer? If you think so, you're definately not an alfista. And true ones would say there is no alfa in this vid and we're talking about a rebadged fiat and a copied 3 series. and people who think the new giulia looks good, really don't know what a beautiful alfa is
Yeah whatever, left the club already. fact you're bickering about my Italian (i'm not English either btw) probably means my argument is not that wrong.
No, James is not a true "Alfisti". James is exactly the kind of plonker most "Alfisti" dread sitting next to at dinner. I've got an '81 2.0L Alfetta GTV (what James would call a "true" Alfa) and a '99 Busso V6 156 (a "false" Alfa, ) and I love them both equally. Next stop for me is 3.0L 75 Potenziata if I can find one, and in a few years (post Alfa depreciation) I hope to bag a Giulia Veloce to replace the 156. The fact that James has closed himself off to everything post Fiat is his loss, but leaves more for the rest of us. And I note that younger Alfa enthusiasts these days tend to understandably favour the later cars (147 GTA anyone?). Please don't think of fossilised remnants like James as typical of the broader Alfa community.
I was commenting mainly about the design of recent Alfas, which I believe to be much less refined than before, even during the Fiat rebading era. I'm not an alfa owner anymore and got rid of the virus because of lack of proper places to have them maintained in the area. And I wouldn't buy a new alfa simply because their design language has completely changed (and not in a way I like)
you cant call that aweful fwd shitbox classic, its not a classic . 105 series alfas are classics. alfa montreals are classics oldd alfa f1 cars are classics. you could even say the 75 not to mention the alfetta. with such great chasis for a project like this
And then one day you will come back to your TT Blob trying to figure out which is the front end and someone will have parked a Busso powered GTV next to it. And that will be the day you realize that you bought the wrong car.
I have a 2002 Alfa GTV 2.0 TS. I have recently also acquired a 2007 Porsche Cayman S. Will I be selling the GTV any time soon? Hell no! Still puts a smile on my face every time I drive it.
I have a gt 3.2 with q2 diff. And i smile every single day!
The GTV V6 Does have passive rear wheel steering. Thats why it feels like it has passive rear wheel steering. Also you will defintely need a Q2 Diff on it if you havent got one already. Its absolutely mandatory for performance and handling.
it really is the classic tipo due mod isn't it?
What ?
Alfa Won the q2 lsd.
Yes
@Alexandros Macedonia nai
You can lower the seats in the gtv, there's a bump stop underneath, brings the seats down 26mm which is significant.
Didnt know that on mine. So is it the same on the recaro ?
That GTV rear camber is stock and it does have passive rear steering.
The camber at the rear looks about right to me. They're all like that. And yep, they have a touch of passive rear wheel steering.
One is gaining value, one is depreciating while you read this... Which one is which?
Those old Alfas are gonna be iconic classics later on. Everyone will forget about the supposed reliability issues and finally look at those cars for the minimalistic masterpieces they are.
Great comparison and fantastic banter between the two presenters. More please!
Thanks.
I still like my 2.0 Tspark better than the v6. Much more agile. You really feel the lower weight on the front axle when cornering!
That I notice in many cars even Mercedes E class from 2000 something, the v6 feels too heavy, not fun, good for highways but small curvy roads better with smaller engine
Youre just telling yourself that cause you cant get a v6 one lmao
giulia needs an wagon version
TheTonicro they have such good renderings online but alfa themselves said the stelvio removed the need for one :/
It seems it's not gonna happen because of the darn SUV Stelvio version. They should make the Giulietta (tail-less hatcback) in 2019. I fear that one is going to be FWD and not RWD tho.
Mr Marchionne does not want to do it because it would be only for Europe... fucking idiot
Drive a STELVIO!!, Forget they put it in the SUV class, call it a wagon, (I prefer hatchback), and just go drive It. THEY have taken EVERYONE, INCLUDING MACAN, to the cleaners WITH THIS SEGMENT BUSTER.
That's the problem it's a segment that I'd entirely wipe away. I hate SUVs, any of them.. Every time I see a Stelvio, I mourn an unsold Giulia.
I have gtv 1.8 since year 1999, very funny and always a beautiful car.
me thinks time to rebuild Lancia...
We can but hope...
Modern day road going Ferrari v6 Stratos perhaps...?
O´bliss.....
can you imagine how coll would it be if alfa would have made this rwd, just imagine, 3l v6, manual rwd, alfa looks
You can still buy an 80's Alfetta GTV6 at reasonable prices. Busso V6 magic in a classic and appreciating RWD Alfa shell.
‘It has my blood on its nuts’ 😂 easy....
d9e9v9il IKR? I was like holy shit, I guess you like a dominant man....
Phrasing!
I spat my food out when I heard that 😂😂😂
Henry it has a Busso V6 of course you enjoy it.
If you are going to say Alfas should have a 6 cylinder then why should they be rwd? The Alfasud range, the 155 and 145 were fwd so why the contradiction?
God, they are both so beautiful!
Thanks, Henry and I are really flattered, but we are both spoken for already.
Nice one guys. I absolutely adore the looks of the '90s GTV although much better in the metallic blue or green than that dull red colour you have. To me is was as show-stopping at the time as the original TT
Audi TT? Looked like shit
Nice to see a Giulia Veloce on Carfection!
Alfa Romeo needs a new engine for the Giulia between the Veloce and QV. A C43, S4, 340i and XE-S rival
It's comming. A mild-hybride version of the 2.0T, with 350HP.
skycrap I've been reading about that engine since 2016. I think it's about time they release it
And 1.33 Turbo with 180 HP. :)
I'd love to see a version like this with QV's engine with around 400 HP. Instead of another 2 liter hybrid.
No down sizing turbo , no EV.
NA Engines sounds so nice.
I actually own both these cars... love them both!
Excellent video guys! More Busso's at my Alfa Nut channel if you fancy taking a look sometime.
I like the gtv V6, but not as much as my favorite Alfa, the gtv6 2.5, the reason? The gtv6 2.5 is rwd. But now I have a family, for that reason I prefer the Giulia because I have the room and comfort features for my wife and kids. Carfection, great video!
The thing is with alfas that they depreciate at the beginning like hell and then really start to go up in price as classics
How's about comparing the little GTV to it's spiritual successor the Brera, I think this would be great as they are actually much more similar
I looked at Breras, but too big and fat for what we wanted. Pretty though.
Nice one lads. I still have an old GTV I can't bring myself to sell (got a 4 door car too). Would def consider a new Giulia. In 5 years ha ha
We need a new MiTo. Make it have a V6 similar to the one in the 147 GTA and make it look like the Giulia.
if i was given the choice of pick only one of the 2 and i cant sell it, i would pick the GTV without even thinking about it
It does have passive rear steer but that camber at the rear is excessive, whoever has set it up went a bit OTT.
Thank´s for Video. The New Alfa looks good but Classic Alfas Sounds better and are emotion pur .
When you have your blood on someone nuts - there’s definitely a connection.
I like so much your's alfa that I started looking for a 1.8ts or maybe a 2.0t.s. Unfortunately no chance tax-wise and budget-wise for a 3.0 V6 in Greece. (taxes are based on the displacement of the car not on the price, so it doesn't matter if you buy a car for €100,- if it is 2.000cc + you will be taxed like you were earning €100,000 or so)
Thanks. Same tax problem in Italy, I believe, which is why they got a 2.0 litre turbo V6 (which I would have loved!)
dick von duisberg yes we have that variant as well in Greece but I think is better to avoid that engine 2.0V6 TB
@@NikosDIY Can you breefly explain why V6 TB is bad /problematic ? I m currently looking at one
Interesting review thanks
Thank you!

I wouldn't fancy the GTV as my daily driver but this looks like a pretty dreamy, realistic 2 car garage.
I think you could stick the blue propellor badge back/front and steering wheel on the QV and no one would be any the wiser
I would loved to own both of these
Great Video Thanks
...da Italiano dico!!.... GTV tutta la vita, guido una GTV da 20 anni.
Henry has chosen the wrong bicycle - where's the full Italian thoroughbred!! S-Works???
Such a nice video.
Modern classic is NOT an oversell of the 916. That's an accurate description.
I'd love to have both these cars in my garage. GTV with Busso engine is a modern classic I'd go for. Giulia is lovely but my heart is torn between it and a facelifed Jag XE.
Both iconic cars all Alfa’s are I own an mito turned as well lovely car…
Yes, but how reliable will it be in the long term ?
@Scott Taylor i don't understand - "dor", "Vag" - what do they mean ?
What I notice is on the older Alpha is more light in the interior, maybe more glass area and noisier on camera !what’s with the “ silly String” at the end?
*Alfa 🤦🏼♂️
@@AsinineComment - ok Alfa , how about a saddle interior!

Classic for me, the new Stelvio and Guilia may be fantastic cars but they look too mean and too vulgar to be proper alfas, just my opinion though
I changed my mind. New
The old giulia is way better looking and great to drive
So the Gtv cost about half of Harry's Specialized then 👍
the GTV has probably held it's value by now though, the Spesh not so much
These guys sound like they've never heard of the Busso V6 before. Very weird.

A 90's road bike does not look like that.
Nice Rapha kit
GTV is a lot better looking
Do you guys remember the episode that top gear made on the Alfa 159? Watch it next to this video please xd
fiat alfa romeo lancia maserati are the best cars in the world! the italians do better on cars!
New...
Giulia quadrifoglio is the greatest sedan made after the W92 m3.
no after....bmw e30 M3 or mercedes 190 e2.5 evo1
You can get a V6 TT
True, but looking back at episode one we didn't particularly want a Golf-based thing, and the V6 TT is more expensive than the Alfa. Nice car, though.
Henry, your chest hair appears to have mutated somewhat...
Nothing with NOS is a classic, sorry.
NA Alfa is nice. not down sizing engine.
NEITHER

"your car sucks lol". instantly no one cares what you think
Struggling to find topics for videos? Not really comparable cars and the classic isn’t really a classic?
isaac gifford I really enjoy your work
"Modern classic" - ie; not really a classic, but we can't afford a 'real' classic on this budget.
:)
The modern cyclist look is so wanky it's unreal. I wouldn't be seen dead wearing that gear.
Very true! And that's toned down. You should see the godawful glasses they wear 😂
Modern Alfa. Because semi-old Alfas allways did two things wrong. They had front wheel drive and they were unreliable.
Nonsense. My 3.0 GTV has 173,000 miles on it and it's in rude health. As long as you look after them properly they're absolutely fine.
Tristan Kelly but it's still fwd
So is a Renault Megane R26 and that's one of the best handling cars ever on twisting roads. Fit an LSD to the GTV and handing becomes a none issue.
3DGolfdesign torque steer is an issue
MIne has a Quaife ;-)
ugly kid car. 2006 audi better
Guy Good all you will see are its tailights
Unreliable cars and expensive too.
Good luck with that!
