I have had to explain this method to so many people. Almost everyone tries to either lift the kayak or push it up from the rear of the vehicle. This method is so much easier especially with these heavy fishing kayaks. I do usually leave my seat on because im lazy though. I have another strap to keep it closed while on the road.

I’ve thought about leaving my seat in but I’m paranoid lol, even strapping in. 🤷🏽‍♂️
Yeah, this method makes loading it pretty easy, especially after a long tournament day. These things definitely aren’t light haha. Thanks for stopping by!

I’m 5’6”, 160lbs. In other words, a shorty. I find it much much easier to load my 106 from the rear. Slide it right up the tire to my rack. I put the foldable side steps on the door hinges of the jeep; step up and slide the rest of the way up…etc.
      nice vid though!

Very clear, excellent demonstration. A few weeks ago, after an afternoon of Striper fishing on the Hudson, I found out I no longer have the strength to pivot my 106 PDL on my roof rack. And that's on a Prius; nowhere near as high as your Jeep. So, I bit the bullet and purchased a trailer. It still seems like overkill but it lets me get out there. Unfortunately, not every spot can accommodate a car plus trailer. Oh well.

Yeah that’s the downside to the trailer, but for ease of transporting, especially if there’s a boat ramp to use, a trailer is absolutely the way to go, hands down.
Did you buy a premade one or did you get a blank, general trailer to rig yourself?

@@thatfishingnoob I spent the big bucks for a personal watercraft trailer. I didn't want to take the time to attempt to put it together. Myself and the company I bought it from would register it with the state. Pricey but worth it for me.

For sure, I’ve been looking on marketplace to see if there’s something popping up… but I’m also looking at boats too now for the family 😂

6:18 is that a voice-over’ed obligatory “that ain’t going anywhere”? 😂 love it! Appreciate the detailed demonstration. Been thinking about getting a pedal kayak and this will come in handy if I ever do get one!

It’s funny because I watched a car top video waaaay before I got this kayak, and the info definitely comes in handy! Maybe this is the sign you’ve been looking for…. Do it! Get a pedal kayak lol.
Had to include that portion. Hasn’t failed yet! 😂

Thanks for the demonstration! You made it look easy, that yak has to weigh 80+ pounds. 😊. I have a Tamarack Pro at 67 pounds and top it on my Sequoia. I use the open back passenger door as my support. Still looking for an easier way without spending $500+

Haha no worries. I think I’ve gotten loading and unloading down to a science. This kayak is probably around that weight without all the gear, definitely not something I can sling over my shoulder like my Teton lol.
I hear you on the easier way. The back passenger door sounds like a good idea. I’d have to do something like that if my roof rack didn’t extend to the edge of the roof like how it does.
      Tight lines out there!

@@thatfishingnoob hell yea, gotta. Help out the algorithm. 😂😂 I may revert to something like this for my new suv. I got the Yakima Showboat 66 with the roller for one person loading the 106 pdl, but the bars that go parallel down length of vehicle actually make it awkward for the kayak to stay flat in any way. And the long lowrance triple. Shot transducer is very close to one of those bars. May require Lil less work that way but probably better for the kayak doing it your way.

    • @thatfishingnoob
      @thatfishingnoob  2 місяці тому +1

I try to be conscious of not smacking my transducer on that front bar lol. Those suckers are expensive. I know they can take a little abuse, but I don’t wanna risk it. I actually ran into a stump the other day and it dented it a little… oops.
      Good ol algorithm!!!
