  • This is the big upgrade I mentioned many moons back in that skunk video. It finally happened and it finally arrived - my Old Town Sportsman 106 PDL. It took a WHILE to save up to pay cash for it, and man on man, the thing is a stable, insane kayak. Overall, I'm thoroughly impressed with it and look forward to further breaking it in and catching some sick fish with it! Thanks for stopping by. If you have any specific questions or if you'd like to see something specific about the kayak, let me know! Drop some fishing wisdom down below as well, or just say hi. You're awesome. Have a great day, and go catch yourself a big one!
    God is good. Ya'll be blessed. Later!

    I believe you made the right choice with Old Town; they are the gold standard of kayaks! I believe you see that now with your 106 PDL and also because I have a Topwater PDL 120, and I LOVE IT! Enjoy your new boat.

      Thank you! I’ve been nothing but absolutely pleased with it thus far and I don’t expect that to change anytime soon. You enjoy yours too! Hopefully it’s not too cold over where you’re at to still get out and be on the yak

    I got to say man I enjoy your content, I enjoy the fact that you don't edit out your little happy moments like first getting in the kayak or realizing that you have all this freedom at your disposal and so much ease of movement. You honestly set in the stone which kayak I'm going to be getting now, I was honestly weighing out between crescent Shirley because I love the rivers, and Old Town because I want to do tournaments and things like that. I'm sold on Old Town and Heck if I do get enough and tournaments I figure I can get me a surely too. Love the content man keep it up

      Thanks for the kind words, I really appreciate it. I was absolutely stoked to get that kayak, and I hope it showed haha. It’s been an absolute blast and has definitely helped me step my fishing game up. I recently covered about 6.2 miles, and the second half of it was in some decent wind. The kayak kept me upright. You’re going to love yours! And they came out with some different color schemes as well, which is nice. I still prefer my photic though haha.
      Tight lines out there! Thank you for swinging by and for the encouragement.

    The end of November I bought a used Ember Camo 106 PDL. I'm in upstate NY and have yet to try it out. So frustrating! I was happy to find your video as I know I will be going through the same experience as you when I can get it out. Probably in March. I loved watching your enthusiasm when setting up the pedal drive, your first cast, finding the front facing rod holder, standing up, and your first fish! I look forward to attempting to stand up as my balance ain't what it used to be. We'll see. Although I've been kayaking for years, I also started fishing last year with a Lifetime Tamarack SOT, too, which I'll be selling coming this Spring. It's a real pleasure to watch and listen to your comments. "Standing up! Cast! Sitting down!" 😁

      Thank you sir for your kind words and HUGE CONGRATS!!!!!! You’re going to have such a blast once you’re able to take out your PDL 106. I was eyeballing the Ember color as well and almost got it (Photic was out of stock when I was about to purchase), but a Photic popped up so I went with it haha.
      It’s still such a blast fishing out if it. I’ve put in some solid seat time, so I’m more familiar with the layout and my setup. It’s still a blast being able to take it out and spend some time pedaling and fishing. And yes, standing up, casting, and sitting without issues haha. I’ve not done so too much standing recently due to winds/I’m cold haha, but it’s warming up!!
      Take care sir. Thanks again.

    I have been looking to purchase 2 kayaks, one for my daughter or my wife and one for myself. I was also looking at the Old Town 106 pdl for the same reasons as you.
    I just stumbled on to your site. I
    have to say, your enthusiasm is priceless, my attention span usually doesn’t let me watch a video that long, but I thoroughly enjoyed it… Thanks . We will be watching.

      Hey!!! Many thanks! I was beyond thrilled to get that kayak haha. From getting it off the truck to the first launch, it was nothing but thrills, and continues to take care of me on the water. It’s a fantastic kayak to say the least. I’ve been thoroughly impressed.
      Thanks for watching and for sharing those kind words. I really appreciate it!!

    Gratz on your new yak!!!!!! I too started on a lifetme tamarak, but i kept mine. Its still great for shallow and weedy waters. I see you ride. I used to do track days and was really into riding until i had kids. Was in too many close calls and wanted to see my kids grow. Gratz again bro!!! great looking boat and you got slime on it on its mayden voyage.

      @thatfishingnoob  8 місяців тому

      Yeah buddy!!!! Yeah I still ride, but not nearly as much, or spirited, as before, since having kids as well. I still ride in the country though, which is fun, and less close calls for me compared to the crazy city. I used to ride almost every day before haha. Thanks for stopping by! The new yak is absolutely a unit. Tight lines sir!

    I just ordered a 106 in the metal camo from Eco yesterday. I've been using a Lifetime Sport Fisher for about 5 years. I sit too low and wanted to get a higher and better seat. Ill donate my Lifetime to my brother who has a cottage on Lake Erie. Best of both worlds. Can use that on Erie and my new beast at home.
    I was also between the 106 and the 12 foot. All told, the 106 will fit better in my truck bed and will still fit in my trailer if I ever take multiple yaks. I can do everything in the 106 I can do in the 12.

    • @thatfishingnoob
      @thatfishingnoob  2 місяці тому

      You’re going to be getting an absolutely fantastic kayak. Even with my 106, I still have plenty of storage and haven’t even utilized half of it (dry bag up front for emergency things, small box for battery, transducer wire, battery wire, and that’s it). Most of my other stuff is up with me or in my milk crate - tackle, net, rods, soft plastics.
      The 106 took care of me in super choppy conditions too. 20 sustained with 30+ gust in a big lake. Got me back to the ramp and back on dry land in 1 piece with all my gear still attached. Nothing but good things to say about the kayak.

    Does it feel top heavy sitting up so high? Is it something you get use to? I do a lot of river fishing some fast water.

    • @thatfishingnoob
      @thatfishingnoob  6 місяців тому +1

      Great question. I initially went from a Lifetime Tamarack to a Teton and that felt really top heavy. This kayak does not feel top heavy at all. The stability on this thing has been absolutely astounding. It may take some adjusting initially but once you’re in it and settled, it’s great. The initial and secondary stability is phenomenal.

      @@thatfishingnoob I grabbed one this morning from Dicks locally. Got it home and there wasn't a seat lol after calling them they gave me the run around so I ended up driving 90 minutes each way to a diff one to trade it out. But now I was able to get the color you have which is the one I wanted. Can't wait to get it out on the rivers here in Pittsburgh.

      Sheeeeesh what the heck lol. That’s a bit of a mess. Glad you got it sorted though, after spending 3 hours on the road. OT customer service is definitely top notch though.
      Today I tested some pretty strong current halfway intentionally. I wouldn’t recommend it, especially with shallow rocks 😂
