The formula for calculating exit velo from bat speed is bat speed plus pitch speed multiplied by 0.2 If the pitch was 80 mph you would have a exit velo of 84 +16 =100 mph 1 mph calculated with perfect launch angle to 4 feet. Right now you are totally capable of hitting a ball 400 feet
Matt: “I’m getting jacked so that my exit velocity will be over 110 mph.” Laura: “Matt, working out is good and all, but you’re getting in the way of my Grey’s Anatomy. Either move out of the way, or you’re not getting three meals a day.”
Great video! Matt, how much more velocity would you expect an incoming pitch to add to your exit velo? Maybe a 90mph fastball for a baseline? This video just astonished me when I play The Show. I now have even more respect for the players that launch the ball at a 100+ exit velo.
Wow really nice tee velo Matt! At 45yo and after 7 years away I joined a team in a 42+ league.. Today I used HitTrax for a baseline of all my velos and have set my end of season goals. Max throwing velo 53, max tee exit velo 71, and max exit velo from 50mph pitch was 78. We have 10 weeks left in our season and I'd like to get back to at least throwing 70, tee velo 80 and 90 in the cage. Thanks for the video man, lets go we got this!
Marucci makes gloves that have built in wrist wraps. You should try those. In addition, I’ve done my own testing, and the official MLB balls always read higher than any other baseball on the planet (they’re legitimately juiced)
My kid just turned 13 and is a big fan. In your travel teams what exit velocity off the tee do you see or expect to see from your U13 players?...thanks all the videos and great info!!
I'm slightly inspired to make a return myself ... When I finished growing at 20/21, I gained 25lbs and strength in all lifts went up ³³% ... Never measured my stats after those gains, unfortunately.
I'm in my mid-40s & started hitting a bit last year (as well as working out). I got in the HitTrax with my 13u team and started off at 79-80mph (off the tee). It was humbling! Btw, I love how the Pocket Radar # shows up in the video clip.
Love your videos, not to sound critiquing, because everyone is successful swinging a bat differently, but try looking at the way your shoulders move through the swing. My personal suggestions is once you land shoulder down, which you do, work up instead of out. and think over under with your hands. Think of how you would chop down a tree with an axe. Hope to see move videos soon, Cheers!!!
Making contact a little deep to be hoping to reach 400 ft, gotta catch it out front of knee otherwise the bat isn’t on its slightly up trajectory. Sure, you’ll clip it and get it up but not with good enough contact for that distance. I’m betting you like catching it deeper because of your wrist issues and it hurts to get the leverage out front, which is why you are a good line drive hitter.
Matt, I've looked at your swing before. It looks and sounds like you are holding your breath a bit. Try a deep inhale into your stomach and hips while you load and exhale while you are releasing the bat head. It should help with the flow of energy in your swing.
Dude go on Amazon and get a couple dozen A1010 blemish balls, $40 or so a dozen. It’s what we use in the Virginia Baseball Congress. Not quite Diamonds but they’re not socks either.
Thanks for the video. My son is a 6’4” 16 YO junior and a left handed hitting catcher. He’s been verified at 95 mph off the tee recently at showcases. We are trying to get him noticed at the D1 level by coaches. We’ve had some interest but nothing firm yet. Is that velocity about where he needs to be to get noticed at that level? How much weight do college coaches put into exit velocity? Thank you!
Don't worry about velo so much. He's in his prime of getting looked at. Where are you going for showcases? Most D1 schools now look at PG (perfect game) grades and if he doesn't have an 8 they won't look at kids as sad as that is.
uswest33 95 exit velocity off a tee is nice. He will get some looks maybe. But that’s not what coaches want to see. Coaches want to see a hitter that can consistently drive the ball. Obviously I have not seen your son play, but if you see that he can improve a good amount on defense as well, wouldn’t hurt so he can get some more value. Exit velocity is overrated, as it doesn’t help square up a ball of a real pitcher. Best of luck to you and your son!
matt, i know you're tryin different setups. seemed to have a problem with the trigger and the fluidity of your load. given that the velo was actually higher than I expected and not a lot of range. seemed to be lacking 100% stretch through groin and full load. Very excited to watch the series.
@@AntonelliBaseball yeah that was apparent. Also it is much easier to get into a full rotation or stretch with a machine, pitch or even toss compared to stationary. Good luck, though starting at low 80s I think 400 will come pretty soon relatively.
How many children did that cost you? I heard workout equip in the pandemic $$$ has gone through the roof! Glad to see you're keepin at this, hadn't seen a road to 400 in a while!
Mine was 89 consistent when I was 17, 91 max. That was the only time i got measured. I was almost developed in terms of my body. So, for 12 you’re in a good track and im impressed.
I realize that it's just an illusion of camera perspective, but I keep thinking you're gonna hit the back wall on the backswing. You seem to be hitting pretty hard considering how long it's been since you swung a bat.
That’s impressive even with aluminum, keep doing what you are doing just start hitting a tire with a heavier bat and a sledgehammer at least 3 times at week (just be carful with your wrists) and come back in 3 months to thank me when you join the 100mph club
big fan bro! love your videos and we'd love to hit with you one day
Let’s do it! I just need a few weeks to train so I don’t embarrass myself!
im 12 turning 13 my max exit velo is 79.6 is that good. i use the hitrax

My tee exit velo, 40 yrs old, 5’7, 140lbs with a wood 32” bat is 69 to 71mph. Can’t really beat 71 unless I use aluminum and then it jumps to 77/78.
I’m thinking about trying this. I’ve been out of it awhile as well

I'm trying to hit it deeper to hit it lower because that was giving me the hardest readings on the radar
BACK TO THE MLB BABY, GOTTA EARN THAT MONEY MATT
How can you be sure the pocket radar doesn't read the bat speed instead of the exit velocity at this small distance?
where can I get one of those little bat weights to use during bp? cause I just just got the big white one that covers the whole barrel.
Could you do a video on your typical pregame routine that you do with your teams, specifically what your I/O looks like? Awesome work big guy🤙🏽
I just purchased that radar and hit off a tee with a metal bat and maxed at 89.
What would you expect 89 with metal would be with a wood bat?

Why do we not measure swing speed?
What is a typical exit velo for a MLB player off a tee? Say for instance Javy Baez who played your position?
