You know a good coach when they're still a student of the game. My golf coach always worked on what he teached as well even in his late 70's.
Thanks to your vids I have figured out why I have chopped at the ball and hit pop ups for the last 5 years hahaha. I could never figure it out until now. I was told always to bring my bat down to the ball, and I think their intent was to backspin the ball, but it's impossible to do that consistently. I was told to never drop my shoulder also. Anyway thanks!
Definitely gonna use this with my high school guys
Back in the early 90s my high school coach had us do bat throws. We would stand at home plate, take our normal swing and release the bat at extension. The bat would have to land over the mound toward 2nd base. I'm thinking this is kind of the same concept.
Hey Matt could you do a video on what happens in free agentsy
Agency
@@willlayne6655 nobody needs ppl like u
what size chuck it ball thrower are you using?
I think lining up knocking knuckles isn't necessary if it is just a little bit but If they are too turned it becomes a problem doesn't it. Just wondering matt. Thanks great videos!
Yes I think small knuckles of top hand will be somewhere between big and small knuckles of bottom hand
just as a question... when i was younger, my batting instructors were former minor leaguers, major leaguers, and college players that had since retired. When I swung, they would tell me don't rear back because that takes more time away from your actual swing (which gets more important as you get to higher levels of play). Is that the right thing to do or not do or is it really just preference?
Depends what they mean by “rear back”
@@AntonelliBaseball basically, they meant like how many players slightly move the bat barrel closer to their head in a way and then initiate the swing (when swinging at a pitch)
Love the mask comment very respectful in my opinion !! I can hear you fine..
This looks like a great drill, but as a 43 year old, it also seems to fly in the face of everything I was ever taught, mainly don't drop your back elbow. Glad to see your approach.
Having said that, what's the trigger? Is it your left shoulder moving up or your right shoulder dropping?
Thanks for another great video!
You wanna bring your elbow to ur hip and keep hands close
I think it’s the upper body going back together. Think entire torso back.
@@AntonelliBaseball thank you, easy way to remember and check yourself!
be there in no time matt. love the grind
What type of balls are those? Are they the ones that come with the it ? I saw that on a site .
Is the 'turn back' move more for baseball? because the softball trajectory is more level or even rising sometimes, a clear upward bat path would make it more difficult for solid contact, right?
No both...I’ve watched most of the best softball hitters and they make the same move
Matt I notice that when your hands are on the bat it look that you don't line up your nuckles. My sons 10u coach likes them to try and keep their knuckles semi lined up. Is this a good thing?
Lining up knocking knuckles is not necessary
My thoughts on this drill. And just my opinion...I’d place this under the category of not so good drills that can occasionally be used. IMO, and I stress opinion, this drill eliminates the lower half and it’s the lower half that turns the down swing into up. When you eliminate the lower half, you’re relying on the arms and hands to steer the entire swing. As I look at this, I see the arms and hands creating some part of the swing they don’t normally create due the lower half not moving. I could probably debate that it’s the first half of the swing that is artificially compensating or the second half depending on the position of the hips during the drill.
I’m also afraid that this drill can teach a hitter to be pushy.
Again IMO, what is good with this type of drill is...anytime a player can feel, understand, and control their body given on-the-fly instructions, the better athlete they become. In other words, perfectly executing a drill that really doesn’t 100% apply to the exact real life task you want to accomplish, but doing that not-so-applicable drill at 100% quality trains the brain and body to be able to execute anything on command at anytime.
So I guess, my concern would be over use of this drill. If I were to use this drill, Id perhaps open up the hips and front leg a bit, almost like that squaring-up-to the pitcher and hitting from behind drill. That would help on the pushy end of things.
Ok, have to get back to life. Sorry for the long post. Had coffee 🤦🏻♂️ Feel free to delete this entire comment if you think it doesn’t apply.
What is that device called that your using in the beginning
Another coach in our youth league told me about using the Chuck-It a few years back. I sort of laughed him off at the time, but now I'm intrigued.
Sub'd for the road to 400. LET'S GO!
Trying this👍
Love the video mask is fine, but I hate that hitting device. Saw a HS kid who was a pretty good hitter, use this device as his main trainer all summer kid never hit again. Was always late and just never looked natural he slowed his swing down to try and get the ball to go straight up the middle. I don't know maybe I am wrong but it just seemed to train his natural swing out of him! He looked like a robot and became a PO.
@@pk1237 Well he was moved to PO that year because he could not hit his weight. One year in JUCO and done.
The swing at 4:29 looks exactly like Mike Schmidt
Not saying this is a bad drill but what do you think your MLB coaches would have said if they came into the stadium and saw you using that dog catcher thing???
Would have laughed then yelled at me
@@AntonelliBaseball LOL ... you would have been the "Tin Cup" of the MLB!!!
Barry Bonds is a hall of famer
No
Barry Bonds is a hall of famer
It's almost like it doesn't matter if you get a plaque or not isn't it?
@Jared Ferrara bru without the juice he would be average
the greatest hitter of all time is Barry Bonds . No one else compares
So basically swing upper cut .
Well not exactly that simple...but yes bat should be making impact with the ball on a slightly up path
Don’t do it Mike!
Lol are u using a chuck it dog ball thrower toy
Yup!
Why are you wearing a mask in the batting cage? God it must suck to live in the US. Wow ...
